15 pointsThis was not what I had planned today. The plan was to haul a large load of scrap from a local Toro dealer that my wife works for part time in exchange for a tractor. All is going as planned until I return to load up my new parts tractor when the owner says to me "I think I have a new hood upstairs for this" . Now, keep in mind that I have picked their inventory clean of every good W.Horse part they had in inventory. We go upstairs into a very large, very dark storage area filled with crap, no lights , just pathways thru the mess. I took two steps and kicked something like a hockey puck (see the last picture). That's when I started digging: boxes of un-inventoried NOS parts from a dealership he bought out 30 years ago : tons of belts and blades, throttle cables, stacks of DD pulleys, axles, plastic hubcaps, switches,an LXI mule drive.....the list goes on . The hockey puck and the best stuff is in the last picture. He wouldn't take anything for it, just wanted it gone(he forgot this stuff was even up there) . Tractor pictures tomorrow.

9 pointsHello All, Alot of 'Horse wrangling today... A guy named Chris out of Rhode Island traded me a clean D160 for my 520H which was in average shape... I dont like I the steering column hydro controls or the Onan... the D has a Kohler K341 in it and thats pretty much how I like my D'S so that was easy. He also picked up an engineless 516A that I owed him. Then... he buys my 416H that I swapped a Kohler 16 in place of the Onan. Again I can't stand the controls so out it went... Then... he buys a C125 black hood that's been laying in a heap since the trans axle popped an axle seal and it turned itself into an "I'll get to it project" that was 5 years back... so out it went too. Then his 11 yr old fell in love with my Raider 12 with the super big Craftsman tires and rims... I liked the idea of the kid having it so I sold it too. Its been sitting for years... Then, his kid sees my Commando 8... father says how much and I let that go... again been sitting for "someday" His trailer was packed with 6 tractors, some odds and ends. A yard cart, a Honda 13 hp horizontal a plow and some stuff Im sure I've forgotten. To round out my day my 1998 314-8 went to Bethlehem CT with (2) 37" decks, a 48" plow, Craftsman weights and a good used set of 2 link chains. The OHV motor doesnt impress me so... GONE Not bad.... I cleaned up a bunch of stuff, have a pocket full of cash and a cool Wheel Horse D160 "Sherman Tank" Here's some pics of the D and my C160 that did all the lugging and dragging today. Hope everyone is well! Tony 20201114_115436.mp4

6 pointsAnd the tractor that I picked up with everything else : a relatively uncommon 523Dxi diesel

6 pointsSomething else I found on this girl.... serial number tag just above the lift lever. No doubt original. Someone has been in the motor before tho. Base pan is on backwards, my other short frames with a big block it is facing the front. Missing tin on it too. Have those in the magic parts shed.

5 points522xi with 460 hours. Gonna sell off the power bagger and put loader on this one. Have to get with @Vinylguy for some new decals. Toro has to go.

5 pointsBeing that you have air capabilities, one of these needle scalers may be a better option than sticking your hand into a rotating rim at max rpm. They do a pretty thorough job and can be had quite cheaply on many of most all of the online sites.

5 pointsNew rotatingsystem in use, works ok.It is a flywheel of a toyota aygo and the gearwheel on a hydraulic engine, rotatingspeed is fine. For the moment powered with a small electroengine/hydraulicpump about 0.7 KW so maximum load now 140kg. Mechanical no stress but you can hear the sound the electroengine makes to complain fur the load. Next time I will put the wheelhorse in front of it see how it maxes out. kraantestklein.mp4

5 pointsI was so tied up in doing end of year stuff around the house, I completely forgot about ’s birthday. 14 years eh? It’s great to see the forum still around, we have amazing and dedicated moderators who run the ship, but the reason this stays afloat is all of you participating and supporting the site for the past 14 years. I came here on November 16, 2006 looking for a plow for my 416-H, as member #5 and never left. There was a forerunner to RedSquare, I had never been on it but it was called something like the WheelHorse Barn? @Sparky was on that site I think, maybe you were too? The other site which was around at that time is Wheelhorse.org which is still up and running but not as active as it was 14 years ago. Thank you for 14 wonderful years! You are an amazing group to keep this going and growing and as always I appreciate the support of the supporters who without them RedSquare would have died on October 15, 2011, and we would not be able to continue to run the site today. I hope I’m here to see the next 14 years! Happy Birthday you ole’ forum!

5 pointsI tried my best to teach and when they went to college they all brought toolboxes with them. "What'll we do when we need to fix something if we don't have tools, Dad?" I loved that question.

4 pointsNew to the group and to Wheel Horse. Collect mostly Case tractors to include L&G. Earlier this year I was given a '69 Work Horse 700 by a friend who wanted it off of her inherited property. Came with a 32" RD deck and snowblower. Had it listed on Marketplace for quite a while and received a lot of interest, but couldn't get the deal done. Well...one thing led to another and now I'm working on it. Original engine was gone and replaced with a B&S 8 hp. Sold that and did some trading for a K181S and fuel tank. That's rebuilt now and installed. Got the rectifier mounted today. Did a lot of cleaning. Have the original rear tires, but I chose to install 8.50 rears instead. Still working on it and hope to have it running and driving soon.

4 pointsSo I fired up the big compressor and used my "new" tool and put a wire brush attachment on a air based drill chuck and spun the wheels by hand while moving the wire drill in and out. I only did one side of the rims because I'm horribly impatient and wanted to see what it looked like being "done". I'm gonna pop the wheels off this week one at a time and do the other sides but I think it looks great.

4 pointsYep. You got it Jim! It’s called a fishing tool. It was usually attached to the light weight sand line on a drilling rig or on a clean-out truck winch. The bell shaped end of the fishing tool guides the device over a lost piece of pipe. The two grippers in the pipe hold on to the pipe as you gently back haul the pipe out of the hole. This was not an exact science and several attempts might be made until the pipe was caught by the fishing tool with sufficient “grippage” to pull it out of the bore hole. I picked it it up because these are not very common due to their purpose built (blacksmith made) nature, AND our Latrobe Sportsmen’s Association has a broken off 2” pipe section and a foot valve, about 25’ long, 60’ down our well. I’m hoping this it the ticket to retrieving it. May the spirits of John Wayne and Red Adair be with me when we try to haul out this piece of pipe! Cheers! Dave

4 points... and the end of the story is that you get a steak for dinner and his wife serves him papers.

4 pointsHad to spread some compost over the garden before winter. The 312-8 handled it like a champ! Then set up the 418-A to plow it under.

4 pointsOk I finally got back into the shop after pondering my plan of attack for the skid plate and this is what i came up with Its a simple ladder design that bolts through existing holes in the frame this way it can be removed for repairs. Then i cut out a trash plate out of 3/16" plate, and drilled holes to mount with button head screws to keep a low profile on the face of the plate. I also thought i should support the hood stand in some way given the force put on the rockshaft from the hy pump cylinder. I decided on a variation of the 701 supports this is what I came up with. Everything on this tractor has been built/designed around function, these brackets will not be painted and allowed to rust to match the rest of the tractor. I am very pleased with how it turned out and I have to say this frame is stiff! Here is where she stands for the night

3 pointsHere is a picture of my dozer blade axle mounts. These mounts with hold 2" x 2" x 3/16" square tubing full length to the blade. The material is 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 1/4" angle with Gr. 8 x 3/8" bolts. Strong enough?

3 pointsWorked a bit more on the 1045 today .... cleanup mostly ..ugg...wife says I smell like parts cleaner. I guess that dab behind the ears doesn't help get her in the mood. I says wadda ya want from a guy runs tractor shop Mrs. candy apple! She quieted down. Any hoo redrilled & pinned the fan gear to the steering shaft with a 3/8 roll pin. PO had a 5/16 bolt through it and lots of slop Also rebushed the the pinion to base and the rebushed the the steering to front plate which was wobbled out terrible. Same things I did on a 1067 resto and steers great. Last two pics but same principle. Woulda got more done if the Packers hadn't pulled it out their rear and had to watch that.
-
3 pointsNot alot at the moment. It's actually a Haxco Hefty G tractor that was stripped down to tow behind status. I'm hoping to bring it back to life next year.

3 pointsStarting a slow restore to a C-160, Today she got a new fuel tank, and different tires. Started it up and went for a ride under her own power, first time since '08. Next comes finding the fuel leak, looks like a bad hose. and maybe some cleaning of the oily parts.
-
3 pointsIts red, not on the stick though, on the bottom dripping off😂😂 thank you

3 pointsGot the charger 12 washed and degreased a little bit. The trans appears to be out of fluid or very low. It does drive. Is there common areas they leak from? Previous owner said it leaks slowly.
-
3 pointsNeedle scalers not only clean, but can be used to make parts more resistant to fatigue failures. If weld repairs in a mower deck cracks are followed up with a needle scaler, the repair is more likely to last longer than just a weld. The same treatment on transmission mounting plate repairs would also be bennificial.

3 pointsSaw a 4 point this morning, big sized body and small rack. No worries, let’s eat the meat! It didn’t come close enough and stayed under enough grassy cover that I never got a shot on him. He was about 40 yards from my Uncle’s buddy on the back fence row, but being on the ground he never even saw it. The rain is pounding and wind is whipping, I was up in the tree with lightening and thunder too. I’m gonna take a mid day hunter’s snooze and try again this afternoon.

3 pointsPut 15 minutes with this tool into each rim, then a little bit of hand sanding after, and you'll be all set. Same process that produced these restored wheels you see here.

3 pointsWe have a Toro 5/21 snowblower with worn out skids so we've upgraded them. After the addition of some new steel, I didn't have a way to paint in between the layers and knew it would rust,so I drilled some holes in the top layer and used a needle point grease gun and greased it until I saw grease ooze out. I even used red grease, so it would match and for 'aesthetics' !
-
3 pointsI'm embarrassed to say I have one of those amongst all my grandfathers old tools and had no idea what it was for. Always assumed it was a half broken old tool he kept for spare parts. No idea if it still works but 99% of the old tools he had are still kicking so I'm guessing it does. This would definitely help me on the rear wheels in the center.
-
3 pointsI have a grapple and pallet forks, both of which I use more than the bucket. I guess it will depend on what you are doing. I got some pallet racks so I can store the implements out of the way when not in use. They are the quick-detach skid steer type.

3 pointsEvery tractor collectors worst night mare!! , a big trailer and fist full of cash

3 pointsI like the Way you build things, that they can be screwed for maybe later repairs. Simplify‘s later service. Great job on it, also the coverplate you planed was allready in my Mind. when i mow with the RD Deck, it blows a lot of leafs and dirt into the Shiftertunnel ( toolbox) what could maybe prevented this Way

3 pointsI want to be able to remove for repairs, also this trash chute is untested theory and might not work in real life the way it works in my head.

3 pointsWhat your source on the fuel cap Madge? Tied into the 1054 Mike @prondzy brought over at plow day. Sorry Mike I can handle a smoking engine on a new to me, this one doesn't, but sloppy steering is a deal breaker! This motor acts exactly like the short pan in my 1055. The SG struggles to turn it over on the compression stroke so guessing this doesn’t have ACR either. If you let it set for a second then hit it again it wil pop right off. Has that nice tight sound of the 1055 as well. Will also repair some other minor things while I'm at it and replace the ig switch with a proper 70 amp one and wire up the disconnected gen light and cigar lighter ... another deal breaker... how am I gonna run the pellet grill at shows with out a cigar lighter! Oh and what's up with the empty holes in the hood and muffler Mike? Dibs on that attachment you get the hair to sell!

3 pointsNope. That was a totally different site. The original Redsquare was started by a friend of mine, an 18 year old high school senior. I believe it was a school project or something along those lines. When the original web host was failing Karl @nylyon saved the day and all the data and got us where we are now.

3 pointsLast leaf mulching job and time to take the recycler deck off. Crap sure gets behind the insert but the deck itself stays pretty pristine. Didn't scrape a thing. Then it's time to put the blower and loaded ag's on.

3 pointsDang! I’m amazed every year that this forum not only survives but grows and stays active. I’m also on a couple well run truck and car forums and they are nowhere near as active as this site. A Redsquare anniversary always reminds me that I’ve been here a looooooong time

3 pointsA little progress on it today. It’s rock solid with stone on which is massive at 22” diameter. Wheel pops right off to allow legs to go on floor when in use. I am going to have to rethink that idea. It works great on an even surface like the shop by just pushing it dragging back legs but it’s too dangerous to try and use it like a wheel barrow. Two wheels would be good. Next will be one more brace , treadle and adjustable tool rests. I might also add a water trough.
