Not mine but I did see this little beauty in a shop the next town over from me. Not for sale of course. Original paperwork in the bag next to it said it was a 551. Looked complete.

I've needed a tractor with a bucket on it for a long time. I do a lot with cars, and dragging engines around by hand in the dirt got old real fast.. it also made my back feel old. A family member got a bigger tractor and was going to sell this, so I popped off and wound up with it. It's Yanmar YM2500, made in 78-79. Good running little tractor, and seem to be decent tractors from what I've read. Only a 25HP, but it should work for my needs. It's small enough that it'll get into fairly tight spots. Only issue with it is the brakes are stuck (Common problem and easily fixed, I just need to do it) so driving it on unlevel ground is a bit sketchy, and one ram on the loader leaks. Apparently the loader is a Chinese unit, and there isn't much info on it. When it comes to rebuilding hydraulic rams, are they all of similar design even if brands are different? It leaks on the down stroke and when you put pressure down with it. I figure it needs new seals/packing, but I've never been into one before so I'm not completely sure. For 1/3 the price of a new box store riding mower, and given the fact that it came with the loader and a mower, I think It'll pay for itself easily.

Went rogue for the week fellas. Left NC yesterday morning with a Bronco 14, dropped in Ohio and loaded a pair of Horses in trade, now sitting here having a cold beer in Richmond IN. Hoping to scrounge some stables and put faces to names if anyone’s ‘kinda’ in the area?

Well ladies and gentlemen what we have here is a parlor stove that was made out of melted metal way back in 1886 in Bangor Maine. It's a New Clarion Number 3. Cast by Wood Bishop & Co. The base measures roughly 20" front to back, 25 or 26 wide and about 28" high including the legs. Her plans are to do some research to see what it needs for restoration. Possibly add some fire bricks or sand. Clean up the exterior surface and "season" it properly back to original. If you have any comments questions or advice please feel free to post away...

I found these awesome looking valves with the correct threads for carburetors and fuel tanks. They seem to be made for labs perhaps gas valves. Tried one in a RJ and so far no leaks seems to work for fuel. They look awesome and are easy to operate. At $2.00 each I may found a lifetime supply.

I grew up in a house with lead pipes for plumbing, sprayed DDT on our garden without a mask, rode in the back of pickup trucks, worked around asbestos while on construction sites, made numerous power entries to the reactor building while I was a Nuclear Power Plant operator, drank, smoked and experimented with a few substances and you expect me to be afraid of spray paint.

Doing some maintenance on my plowing Electro and every time I look at this battery I have to look at it with respect. From 2004 and still no sign of weakness. Every Diehard I have is like that.

Listened to that Wisconsin sing! even got to ride it myself once! Yes, you must start it to ride it!

@pullstart's post earlier today reminded me of my first experience with a Wisconsin magneto. I grew up with small block Chevy's and Briggs. At the lawnmower shop, I was maybe 13-14. Old Vernon came from Jamaica every summer to work in the shop. He was over 6' tall and probably as wide. And he new everything about every motor, machine, everything. Just a brilliant man. He called me - "Speedle Wheedle" - Which he told me meant "Little Rat" in Jamaican. lol One day he says, "Speedle Wheedle, come here mon. Hold this mon...." And he spins the gear on the magneto and the current flies through me and I jump back and yell. All 300lbs of Old Vernon were jiggling while he laughed harder than I ever saw him laugh. At my expense. In only seconds, I learned about Magneto's that day.

Pride and Joy !! Sorry I couldn't pass that one up it was stuck back in the archives along with this machine that I pulled out last night! this really is my pride and joy. She is serial number one! Duane Marrs was a good friend of mine that built this steel guitar for me. He left me this several years ago!

Ultimately, was able to get those rusted through pin holes filled, sanded out, and into some self etching today.

This is a knife I started 21 years ago. It was for my friend who recently passed away but I moved away from his shift and didnt finish it. I found it in my police kit after his death and decided to finish it for his son. Spent this afternoon making the nickel bolsters and I'll have a look at the handle scales tomorrow.

What I did Kev was get some magnetic backing for my dealer stickers. Real cheap on the jungle site. Then you can put one on the Senior or any tractors but I can easily remove it when I take custody of it!
  18. 5 points
Nah.... y’all got me wanting a senior now. Pipe dream but you never know what’s hiding around here.

It’s been far too long since Frank has seen daylight, let alone shop time. I’ve had a set of decals from @Vinylguy for a very long time!

Nice graphic's Kevin. Just one thing I've noticed. The wheel horse sticker on Mrs Pullstarts rear end, (If you'll pardon the expression), isn't level. Maybe should have got Rylee to put it on.

No dibs. Guy that helped us said it’s been in there for a long time. Hasn’t been started in ages. The business is a small engine/bicycle/refillable gas cylinder business all in one. I asked if there had been any wheelhorse dealers in the past around there and he said no but then pointed at the tractor and smiled. I break my neck all day looking at stuff while I’m out and around. Lot of neat stuff out in the back country

Here's two more Old Vernon's: He's rebuilding (I think) a Wisconsin buttoning up the base gasket. He hits one side of the base gasket with sticky glue, the other side with grease. I ask him, "Vernon, isn't that going to leak?" He replied, "No mon, it'll never leak and if I made a mistake, I take the engine apart and not waste a gasket." And the last one: We had a washroom with hot water and 175PSI. Every machine got a bath. One time I had a WH in the shower, letting her run and dry off. Vernon says, "Speedle Wheedle, did you put oil back in that machine before you started her?" Oh $h1_! He says, "No matter mon, she's an old machine and sounds just fine. He could have ratted me out. Old Vernon would have rather taught a lesson. And he taught me a lot.

did you have to reimburse him for the damage to the sledge ?

No, these will not be plastered on Mrs. P’s Senior!

That's a promise? I'd gladly take several magneto hits, arm to arm, right through the heart to take a ride on that beauty. Do I sound sick? It sounds like I sound sick!

I think you did real good Kev regardless of the price of the tractor or the cow tails.......priceless! Hopefully we get you some decent hauling capabilities and that ride is at Portage next year...we all get seat time!!!!

So I have taken one valve apart. It is entirely made of brass. There are no components to deteriorate from exposure to fuel. Male and female parts are precisely machined and are tapered therefor getting a tighter fit when screw it tightened .

That is a sad story Kevin but I’m glad that you were there to bring him home safely. Thank you for being that much needed “guardian angel” today... Took the old playhouse from our backyard to a good friends house. She had heard that we were eventually going to get rid of it and asked if she could have it for winter “storage” of her beehives. Alas, we took it to her place along with GhostRider and some tow rigging. It probably weighs 1000-1200 lbs but it slid down the metal ramps pretty easy. You can see her “hives” in the background behind the playhouse. The boys helped me get it unloaded and set in its new place. Caleb wasn’t to keen on being around those bees. I told him not to worry about them—black wasps, hornets, yellowjackets—now that’s another story! She was happy to get this 25 year old play house and we were happy that someone can still use it👍🏻

Thinking yesterday a little arround on a quick inbetweenproject for the Weekend, when Mart‘l stop by and told me i have something for ya. Think it‘s a John Deere, but i don‘t be sure... will put it in you Shed. Surprise... yap, could be a „John“ Deere.. 😂😂😂😂 Than i thinkering for the Weekend, i didn‘t like the Tiller on the Front of the Beast, but i need to rework my Field. So first try will be the Plow on the Beast, curious if this will work. After that i think i will try the Tiller but differently than i had it in use until now. first Check if my Plan could work. So i firstly dismount the Handlebar to reduce unneeded Weight. don‘t look Bad at all. Close but enough gap to lift it completely with a short Lever. So i welded it on a Piece of Flat Steel, where i drilled a 3/8“ hole before to be able to bolt it on. To be able to use the Hitch without lot‘s of force i keep it as short as possible. Lifting works with fair ammount of Force on the Lever. The best is, i can regulate the tilling depth easily with the Leverscrew. Love it. On Weekend i will test, it if it‘s work and last as i expect.

Yes any w 85-90 gear oil will be good. If you look up a chart of oil weights 40 weight automotive oil an 85 gear oil is almost the same weight.

If youre like me, that FEL will be a beautiful thing!!! and yes that Yanmar is a pretty highly rated tractor. In case you dont already know of them - https://www.surpluscenter.com/ has hyd parts up the kazoo. I too found that as much as I love my horses, there were just too many times a FEL was needed .... so I started a search and found a (gray market) Mitsubishi 1650 4x4 with a bucket for $$4000 and jumped on it. It only needed a ign switch and a seat. But one thing I quickly found was ---- the thing steered like a tank!! WOW! really get a workout, especially with a bucket of dirt! In case you find that yours also is hard to steer (I bet it is!!) I put power steering on mine - electric - power steering! Heres a link to the post on another forum where I found all the info. On down into the ... long post, I wrote up some of my experiences doing this. Been on now for some 2-3 yrs and still works GREAT! https://ls1tech.com/forums/suspension-brakes/1848775-35-electric-power-steering-fail-safe-no-ebay-module-no-caster-issues-2.html#&gid=1&pid=42

That should get some work done. I bought a TYM recently for around the property stuff. Although I never done it personally, there a BUNCH of videos on YouTube walking through ram rebuilds.

Nice score Jonah! I learned cylinders trial by fire... if you pull it apart, have a good set of inside c clip pliers and the rest should be self explanatory!
  43. 3 points
It is unlikely that a bad head gasket will result in oil burning. The replacement is an opportunity to take a look at the condition of the cylinder.

And when you meet me you'll say, "Wait a minute, he's only 5'6", no way he chipped that sledge." lol Here's how it happened: (I love Old Vernon stories) We serviced a lot of Yazoo Master Mowers. 60-72" front deck. They often came in mangled. Old Vernon is hitting the bend in the deck with a torch and swinging a hand sledge. I about 6' away, directly in front of Old Vernon with a 6' pry bar pulling the deck downwards. Old Vernon swings his hammer again and again and again. It seemed like Old Vernon was starting to get tired..... Head over handle, head over handle, the sledge leapt Towards my head, It connected. I didn't get ded, just got my bell rung. Then we finished straightening the deck. The good old days.
  45. 3 points
Fortunately for me, my skull only chipped the sledge a tiny bit.

I agree, magneto's can be a real pain. Take it from me. But the real story here is Old Vernon. I have so many great stories from that old timer. Like the time he hit me in the head with a 3lb sledge.
