10 pointsHi all from the 🇬🇧 Looks like your election may well be decided. Regardless of who won can I wish you all well with the next four years and hope that we can all defeat the virus together. 8 pointsHello all, After 35 years of playing with tractors I had an idea come to mind. Bought a used 4x6 trailer... then bought a boat trailer stanchion and walla... the EASY way to move tractor carcasses and non running hydros around without killing yourself. The 4x6 is just big enough for 1 tractor yet small enough that using it in the woods around my property for other chores is mighty handy. Should've built it long ago! Tony 20201107_154540.mp4

6 pointsWell this project is coming to an end. I got this tractor just 20 days ago, its came a long ways from the day i got it. Is now fully functional and will be used as a cruiser/tow rig for the yard cart. Got some sweet hood decals coming from redoyourhorse along with a big 12x12 horse logo for my tow truck. This has a been a fun little project, and will last a number of years amd eventually be given a full proper restoration. But for now with only my driveway available as a workshop, this will have to do. Im happy with horse #2

5 points@WHX24 @Achto @PeacemakerJack @Shynon @Mikey the Monkey @Coulter Caleb my plan is to have everything fixed before i put it away for the winter that way I can rock n roll next season. My plow tractor. It has seen many upgrades over the last 6 years, this year at Jims Plow Day i found the next weakness after years of use and abuse the gusset plate on my tractor was shot. When i lifted the plow off the ground my hood stand would flex to the left about 1/2inch and the frame/transmission mount would buckle up and down i couldnt hold a furrow to save my life. So i cut out the bad parts, you can see all the cracks I couldnt not find a solid 3/8 plate without ordering one online for big $$. So i welded two 3/16inch plates together dimensions 7in x 6-3/4in to make my new gusset plate. I drilled my pilot holes through one plate and added 9 extra 3/8 holes for spot welds to hold the plates together. Then drilled out the transmission bolt holes through both plates Tacked the new plate into place and added another gusset to stiffen the twist at this plate under load. Then finished burning it in and cleaning up welds Next im going to add a skid plate to the underside to prevent trash buildup.

5 pointsHello all, Years back I had a 1997 Oldsmobile Bravada (fancy S10 Blazer) with a 7ft Snow Bear personal snow plow. Worked great... and it let me take care of some friends and family. Long story short the Olds almost got to 200,000 and lunched a rod bearing... I took plow off and sold it and truck went to Andover Auto Yard as scrap... Fast forward to now... I picked up a one owner super clean 85,000 mile 1995 S10 Blazer and decided to see if I could find a snow bear plow for it. I did and today I went to Exeter Rhode Island to pick it up. Its a 2004 and is in good shape. It mounts using a front hitch... OR 2 point Snow Bear mounts I cant decide whether the single point hitch mount is good enough or if I should go with the 2 point that uses a cross member on front of truck What do you guys think? Here's a pic of the generic hitch mount... I have to put a front hitch on to use this. Or... I buy the crossmember with the two pins that bolts right to my frame. My Olds was setup that way. Im wondering if the front hitch would serve any other purpose (moving trailers? A hitch haul platform?) Tony

4 pointsWell I had to bite the bullet and get a bigger tractor for things I need to get done around the property at the sacrifice of my 552. I decided to go RED and get a TYM. They make Rural King/Mahindra and others. Got a great deal from a local dealer with a loader, grapple and pallet forks. So far I moved some big brush piles to a burn pile which in and of itself was a HUGE time saver!!

4 pointsSome days you only get a few things done. I took the muffler off today...and as many of you know this can be a job in itself! Looks great - was still the original Nelson Muffler...and if you look real close you can see the 1978 date stamp. Wire wheeled and 3 coats of black hot paint...

4 pointsDid a little organizing and moved some Wheelhorse pieces/parts around. @OldWorkHorse I found much of the stuff you're looking for. I spent over 3 HOURS learning the ways of the electric leaf blower. (top of a shop vac) given to us by @wallfish. Thanks John!!! VERY impressed. I cleared stuff out that had NEVER been touched from the edges of the forest. Still quite a ways to go but great headway. Trina spent most of the day working on painting and installing trim, amongst whatever 78 other things she was doing. I did battle with some brown wasps using my favorite ammo, brake clean. I'd say I came out ahead.

4 pointsI should add i have started using the foil tape used for duct work. If you switch to LEDs you can line the back and even cover the openings on the top of the housing to increase reflection

4 pointsLet's check some basics first. Make sure that the shifter has not come loose from its dog-point set screw. If you are able, pull the shifter out and inspect the ball on the end to see if it is broken off. A normal one should look like this. Looking down into the hole, the shift rails should be lined up like this when in neutral. I will let some of our transmission experts chime in with their thoughts, but check the easy stuff first.

4 pointsHere ya go Eric. I saw seven more deer Friday eve. That was 20 total for the day. The last one was a decent buck. He crossed a hay field about 50-60 yards from me. The light was so poor, my range finder could not pick him up to verify the distance. No shot taken. This morning I saw three doe and five turkey. It's 78F here so I think I'll wait for the cold front that is coming next Wed. Maybe that will get the bucks moving. Here are a couple pics taken with the Kodak PixPro. I call this deer lucky zero mag at 10 yds That black dot is one of the 5 turkey I saw this morning. The Kodak is on 60 power and hand held. The distance measured with a range finder is 273 yds. Took this one walking home today. 60X at 314 yds.

4 pointsHappen Anniversary Steve and Chris. My wife and I also celebrated our 50th this year. All our plans for a trip fell apart. As long as we're together love will make a way. And its to late in lift for them to train another man so we're safe.

4 pointsI went through the magical box of spare briggs parts. I knew I had enough to build one spare engine but looks like I have enough to build 2. So I cleaned up and painted the parts universal gloss black. I know the one block needs rings, do that over winter. It's nice just have them just in case something engine less shows up. These are pre 1964 143302 and 143402 5 3/4hp. I have no tractor restorations this winter. I am planning the engine department all organized.

3 pointsI was browsing out in my back yard woods and I run across this little stump. I was hoping they were elephant ears but they are not. Rock solid! Beautiful!
-
3 pointsI would go with the 2 point hitch. There is a fair amount of stress when pushing a plow. That & I like to over build so more is better in my book.

3 pointsType in rexemouse. He posted the info with pictures for the hub conversion for 520 front spindles.I posted with photos for the hub conversion for 3/4" spindles.

3 pointsFront hitch could come be handy but I wouldn't be comfortable using a plow with only one mounting point. I'd go with the 2 point mount. Good heavy snow and it'll be much more rugged.

3 pointsThis morning my Nephew and his 8 yr old son hunted with me for the first time at the Family Farm. I put them in my back pasture stand. It has a fairly good record of yielding a good buck opening weekend. This 9 pt with 2 buttons came out and the 8yr old was too nervous to shoot so my Nephew shot it. He’s harvest 2 doe elsewhere in other years, but this was his first buck. It measures 14-1/2” wide at the widest point on his main beams. Here we have a 13” minimum width (outside the ears) Restriction. So now we’ll see how I do the rest of the season. This morning I hunted in my front pasture stand that is in a creek bottom. I had 11 doe, a spike, and a 4 pt. Plus 3 squirrels and a several red birds. A nice busy morning watching wildlife

3 pointsOne advantage that trailer rims have, other than being new, is that flat tires are easier to repair. The hub does not have to be demounted just the rims. I have this setup on one of my 520s.Though pictured on a 312-8 this is what they look like.I got the rims from Miller tire.

3 pointsCleaned up the heap of leaves I'd left over at the neighbours yesterday. As her yard floods, they were nice and soggy. Two hours of shoveling and throwing them over the wall into the field. Oh for a tractor with a loader bucket.

2 pointsI just completed a hub conversion on my 312-8 with 520 front end. Being unable to find 520 front wheels, I decided to go with trailer hubs. I could not find a good write up on the swap, so I am posting this for anyone who wants to do this swap. All parts (minus tires) came to about $100, so the conversion is around the same price as a set of clean 520 rims. Parts List -Trailer Hub Kit, I bought this off Ebay From Elgin Trailer Parts, This includes 2X 1000lb 4 bolt trailer hubs, bearings, 1" x 1.25" seals, and dust caps. (Fits BT8 1" spindle) Cost- 57$ shipped -Wheels, I ordered 5-3/8 x 8 rims (standard for 400 series). A big benefit to trailer hubs is that they accommodate a wide variety of rims/tire sizes. These hubs use a 4 x 4" bolt circle. Cost- 32$ shipped -Spindle Washers, 1" x 1.5" flat washer, 14ga or 18ga. I bought these from lowes but These can be sourced anywhere. Qty 2 needed. -Hub End Washers, .75" x 1.25" flat washer, 14ga or 18ga. I bought these from lowes but These can be sourced anywhere. Qty 2 needed. -Bronze Sleeve Bearing, 1" ID x 1.25" OD x .5" Long, I bought these from Mcmaster-Carr P/N 6391K281 Qty 2 needed. -3/4-16 Slotted Lock Nut, Mine were missing. I bought these from Mcmaster-Carr P/N 95030A270, Qty 2 needed, Sold in 10 pack. Installation is straight forward. The pictures pretty much sum up the steps. The bearing need to be hand packed with grease before assembly. Install the inner bearing before inserting the seal. The hub nuts are not intended to be torques very hard. Just snug them up and install the correct size cotter pin. The hubs are very smooth and solid. I am very happy with the results. Thanks, -Justin

2 pointsI came up with 80.64". The piece of steel to make the spiral is not going to be a straight piece - unless you can do some pretty fancy black smithing on it to bend it into a helix. The usual way to form shapes like this is to start with 'C' shaped sheet steel and drag them into helix when they are welded onto the tube. You will probably need two rings that have an ID the same as the diameter of the tube and a width the same as the height of the helical fin on the tube.

2 pointsSo it’s repaired enough to get me thru the winter. Had to get creative since a couple pieces of the frame were unsavable. Left the original top on and covered the entire thing with a new tarp. Kinda dark inside so I’ll have to add a second light fixture.
