I just found out in @WHX24 thread that @stevasaurus and his wife Chris have tested positive for covid. So far it sounds like their symptoms are not too serious but we've all heard how this monster can operate. Lets all of us sent our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery for these wonderful people.

The Raider 10 needed a new positive battery cable today after the old one fell off. PO had a bad connection and burned most of the terminal away. I had it sandwiched with some oversized washers on the battery end. When it fell off after starting, I figured it was time to fix it right. Unfortunately, I needed to take the fuel tank off to get to the ignition. While waiting for the spilled gas to dry, I decided to do a little bit of cleaning and waxing. I think it was @AMC RULES that said they used Johnson's paste wax to make their old machines look good. I had a can around and got to work. Also grabbed my 303 aerospace protectant. Got the hood, fenders, seat, steering wheel, gas tank, engine tins, and air cleaner looking pretty decent. If I need to burn some more time I'll continue. Oh, and I unclogged the breather in my gas cap. I was thinking it might have been part of my problems getting this horse to run right, but it wasn't. Might try installing my other carb to see if it works better.

Merciful God, hear our prayer for Steve and Chris who are suffer from the coronavirus. May they receive the proper treatment to hasten their recovery and the comfort of your healing presence. May their caregivers, families and neighbors be shielded from the onslaught of the virus. Give solace to those who grieve the loss of loved ones. Protect and guide those who strive to find a cure, that their work may conquer the disease. Help us to rise above fear. We ask all this in the name of your Son, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

I not sure where to post this so I'd be happy to have a moderator move it or I could add it somewhere else if directed where. I was surprised to see so many garden tractors including many new to me. I just love garden tractors and had to share. https://bid.aumannauctions.com/auctions/catalog/id/24819/

I just came out of quarantine and this news is hitting me pretty hard. It is starting to explode here. We were lucky the first time around. Not a lot of cases then. Must stay vigilant.

Time to bring this thread up to date! I finally have something to report on my 582 plow mule: Kevin @pullstart dangled a hook out there about two months ago about some tires he found on a buggy site. One of the things that I have come to realize plowing with GT’s is that the standard wheel tractors often battle with clearance issues. After plowing with Clyde (dad’s 953) I came to realize that the extra clearance provided with tall tires is a real positive but it is often hard to accomplish with the limited GT tires available in the AG style. After looking into the tires that Kevin shared the link on, I was determined to purchase them and get rolling on this project. They are 27” tall tire on a 12” diameter rim and they look like “real” AG tires. I opted for the 7.5” wide tire instead of the thicker varieties because I wanted something that would really dig in vs. floating on top. Next challenge: how to fit that tall of a tire in the space available🤔 I unbolted the fender pan and installed the tires only to find out that I was indeed going to have to space up the fender pan. I chose 1” square tube stock for this task. I also had acquired a Cat O 3pt on a Cub GT “flip” about two years ago. I finally dug it out, cleaned it off, primed and painted it. It sure looks pretty in the Regal red! Zach helped me paint and prime it. While I had the fender pan off to space it up and install the lift bar, I took a picture of the farmall Cub tranny that was in all these old gear drive Cub Cadets. Bulletproof because it was designed for a compact tractor in the 1940’s😉 Once I had the back plate in place and the spacers fabricated, I turned my attention to the front axle. Cub cadet introduced the Super garden Tractor In 1979 with the 982...this tractors “big brother”. It had a bunch of heavy pieces on it but shared much of its DNA with the regular GT’s in the lineup. I had the crazy idea to install the spare Super front axle in place of the standard front axle. the Super Axle is much heavier and pushes the front wheels out by about 2”. My main goal was the fact that it gives me about 2” of ground clearance much like I’m gaining with the taller rear tires. The bonus is that this axle weighs 48# vs the standard axle at 28#. I sincerely doubt that I’ll be able to break a spindle on this setup! With the front axle in place, I was then ready to fit the fender pan and hook up the rear electrical. I dug out my old Brinly Cat O plow. This is a plow that dates back to about 1969 and looks quite a bit different from those that you normally see. This is a very crude design compared to the later ones but is still very functional. I found my biggest problem though, would be to lift the monster plow with manual lift! The weight of the plow and the distance behind the tractor created a compound lift weight that was nearly impossible to clear the floor. I added a strong tension spring which helped some but was still a shoulder and back breaker. I still loaded and took it to plow day. The original 18hp opposes Briggs still resides between the frame rails as does the original clutch. Both need some work and I knew this taking it over but I couldn’t stop myself. I needed to feed this dream that was now becoming a reality! Some take aways: 1.) those tires are AWESOME (am I right or what Kevin?) since Kevin found them, I’ll let him post the specs and link to them. They are offered in a myriad of sizes but they have deep lugs, tough construction, and look super cool. 2.) extra ground clearance is great! Both Judge and Caleb took a couple of rounds on this thing and loved it. I had to lift the plow at the end of the furrows for them though. 3.) the Cat O setup gives lots of adjustment potential. I can’t wait to experiment with this more in the future and share it with you. 4.) this tractor needs a fresh engine, clutch, and hydraulic lift. I also need to add the PeacemakerJack recliner seat 😂. I’ll keep you posted as I get these items together. 5.) this tractor will be a great plowing machine once I get the above items taken care of...

Made up this boot rack for the cabin last week, painted it and installed it today. Just need to put the hooks on the left hand side for coats etc. Wood stove does a great job drying things out.

I made an old MTD snow blade (square peg) fit on this Raider 10 with Tecumseh HH100 (round hole) by fabbing a bracket to mount it on until I find the proper wheel horse blade. I have changed the oil, gas filter, and transmission oil and tires. Put a rebuild on the LME 29 carb but still seems a little sketchy. I put a new spark plug in it and it felt a little "off" going in and felt like it wouldn't get completely tight, like it was stripped. Started it up and it ran for 5 seconds and blew the spark plug 20 feet out into the driveway. Oh man, that sucked. So I put the old plug back in, it seemed to go in fine and snugged right up. Don't know what's going on there, now I'm scared to try and change it again. Right now it runs pretty good. Seems to have a slight miss, can't tell if it's the carb or plug. Have started running seafoam in the gas. Hope it snows tomorrow.

More progress today. Have about 45 mins after work to weld some mounting plates for the motor on the frame. Im by no means an experienced welder. Im practicing and learning as i go. They are no where near good welds but for this little engine they should hold. And if they dont, no big deal i can fix it and make it stronger as i learn more. These 3/16x3 inch flat stock will give me plenty of room to shift the engine side to side and forward and back as i fine tune it for my final installation. I am going to try my best to get it perfect and have only 4 holes rather than a slotted plate for adjustment.

my dad had a benchtop model like this at our LagrangeAirport/farm Shop. @Stepney " There's a large rotating knob in the top that does .. something? Havent figured it out yet. " If i remember correctly that unit is hooked up to an air pressure supply. Rotating that knob/wheel increases pressure in the chamber that the plug is screwed into. so you can see the plug firing simulating engine cylinder pressure.

Thanks, 2 plates! One for the front 2 holes and one for the rear 2. Could have done one big plate but this 3 inch flat stock was most easily accessible. Also no expert on engine swapping. Ive pulled and replaced dozens, but never one that isnt supposed to be in the machine. Going smooth so far. Good project to learn on with such a small machine and simple pullstart engine. Impressed with the new 125 welder from harbor freight though, weighs only 14 pounds and is about the size of a 6 pack!

That looks like an average universal evap fan motor. This company may be able to supply one with at least metal ones. https://www.rhsparts.com/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw59n8BRD2ARIsAAmgPmLefvG1KWsNU-JI1s4d41EdJXntbfzucYPT2xzfXMkcMh1-zKUaM4caAvu1EALw_wcB# or if there is a Johnstone Supply near you.

JCM , agree with you on the get it going first then clean it up way of doing it . for me the OPPORTUNITY TO GET IT DONE , is my inspiration, regularly , I am at a spot that exposes another problem that is close to my next repair , THATS WHAT DRAWS ME IN , weather I repair it then , or make a plan to change it , helps me eliminate problems. example , this is my seat supply , https://www.agrisupply.com/universal-tractor-seat/p/14119/ I have 3 of these , I especially like the scroll down seat base sizing , exactly like w/h ! keep it going , another thing , if you want to, try the RISLONE ZINC ADDED TO YOUR NEXT OIL CHANGE , and tell me about the improved, terrific smoothness and operational function of the engine, all of my engines have it now , amazon on line has the best price . good talking , pete

Right on Jim. We had one in the gas station I worked at in the '60s. When a car was running rough we would see which cylinder was dead bu pulling plug wires on and off while the engine was running. Once the dead cylinder was found we would test the plug without pressure and then watch it fail with increased pressure. Then of course we would tell the customer that all the plugs should be changed, it was a good sales tool. Many customers would bring in lawn mower plugs and we would clean and test them for free. @Stepney, thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Picked up a 418-A recently and during the test ride I could hardly move the console mounted hydro lever, and as @953 nut mentioned I would highly recommend removing the lower console plate, clean, lube and adjust all moving parts and problem solved.

Thanks Pete, when I went to look at it I could see it had a future and as time goes by just looking at it parked I get idea's to do this and that. Having fun with it and not putting much $ into and very happy with the results, in fact it runs awesome compared to it's looks. Before and after pics so far.
