I made it official. I put up my sign that I got from Terry several years ago. My pole building is now officially the Wheel Horse building.

I picked up an RJ 58 last week but I’m a little confused now of what it really is. It has the 3 speed trans but all the sheet metal I believe is 57. Thanks for any help. I also have an early 1959 that I got about 10 years ago. The bug hit me again lol

Owing a Wheel Horse 512 Diesel and an Onan powered 416-8 from my late father, which I want to restore in the future, I was searching for info and came along the forum. Found last week another Horse, 416-8 with a Kohler engine, with I bought for the mower as the mower of the diesel is in a bad condition. Herewith a picture of my 3 horses.

Folks.... I'm working regular hours and she's home enjoying a "day OFF" which we all know means she's probably working hard on some kind of a project or another. Several of you have met her in person and a good many more can probably gather who she is from my posts. Not one of which has ever been exaggerated, seriously. So please do go ahead and post whatever type of horrific comments you could put here and I'll share this all with her later on today.

She (the 62' as confirmed by a buddy) shall be called the franken-horse as @AMC RULES called it. Motor is out, it runs, needs carb work, and its pretty beat. I have a 212 anyways so i set it on there to see. If i do use it i will remove the predator gas tank and tuck the motor under the factory tank.

I plow three flat driveways - 2 asphalt and one concrete. Used chains a few times and the scratching and marring (on my driveway) made me try without. Have never gone back. Been doing it with no added weight and no chains for 5 years now and no issues. Do I skid around sometimes - yup. Michigan slop is fun to plow! Here's my rig:

Welcome. Your question will certainly lead to an interesting discussion....both have their supporters... My choice is Kohler because parts are much more readily available and less expensive....

The drive assembly is complete, lubed and ready to go! Neat trick from the Toro service manual. That's one honkin' spring. Worked like a champ with a hammer and some wire! Started mating up the auger and drive assembly tonight too! Now if I could just get that last head bolt, I'll be in business.

Got home a few minutes ago. Had her read down through the whole thread. She says to give two thumbs up to all. Also a BIG THANK YOU! Those of you who wanted her to rest and relax she wants you to know that she did that from 6:40 this morning all the way up until around 1:00 p.m.. that might be the longest she's ever done that! After that Trina and her mom messed around with chicken run coverings and put a carpet at the base of the stairs. To do the carpet she removed all the molding so that the carpet is under them. A proper installation. And made a faceplate for the bottom step. Also reorganizing and clearing out the exercise room so we can use the machines more effectively. Also brought a machine from her mom's house to here. This is what I came home to find... While she was installing a piece of molding she hit the "wrong nail" once... As you can imagine she may have uttered some "sentence enhancers"..... @Joe M @JoeM she pretty impressed with yer 6 pack!! Her words... "Yeah he does". Thank you all.... I sure do hope more of you get the chance to meet her (us?) in person someday..

Thanks so much guys I really appreciate it. I think I’ll try to get new turf saver tires with rubber chains. I’ll put on some wheel weights and fill the tires and I’ll see how it goes. But as for tonight I’m going to my buddy’s house to play tug of war. Hope I win.

There are some differences between snow blowing snow and plowing snow. The biggest thing to account for is that when you are plowing snow you need to push WELL PAST the point that you are actually trying to clear so that you have a place for the rest of the season to keep putting the snow banks. If you get a heavy or thick snow you will have to take partial bites. Like a half a plow blade or less.

RJ's were '59 & older. Suburban's were '60-'61. '58 was the first year for a 3 speed transmission in an RJ, earlier models had a variable speed tranny. A big tell tale when you see them is that a RJ will have no added body lines in the hood, the top will be smooth. On a Suburban body lines were added to the top of the hood. I suspect that this was done to help better support the gas tank, which is strapped to the under side of the hood. A Suburban will have multiple notches to control lift handle positions, a RJ does not have this feature. There are even more that I could list. If you can find a picture of each one and look them over side by side you will find a good amount of the changes.

Before you disassemble that transmission, remove the shifter by loosening the allen screw under the shifter boot. Put the transmission in what you think is neutral. Look in the hole and the 2 pieces of shift linkage should be aligned to look like a square hole (in neutral) If they are not aligned square, it might be stuck in gears at once. Take a large flat blade screw driver or pry bar and try to move-align them. But do not heavy handed force them. The shifters can get rusted on the shift rails and forcing them will break them. This thread has bearing and seal information for that transmission. There's lots of information in the transmission section on rebuilding that transmission. One of our vendors, Wheelhorse Parts and More sells bearings, seals, kits, and a few gears.

@ebinmaine continues to push the envelope. The Haiku Police have met to determine enforcement protocols regarding the use of “/“ in lieu of “per”. After many seconds of heated discussion and consideration, this has been approved and accepted for Red Square Haiku threads only.

I just buy another set if I need batteries... more drills, another charger, considered free with the purchase of batteries! I buy from a local tool provider, now Colony Tool, previously Fasteners, Inc. Like JD, I have this feeling that box store stuff might not be professional stuff through and through.

The difference between the 58 RJ's and the 400 & 401 Suburbans (talking transmissions here) is mainly the mounting plate for the brake band. The #5003 RJ transmission has that plate at a vertical and the brake band attaches and goes around the bottom of the brake drum. The #5010 Suburban transmission has that mounting plate at a 45` and the brake band mounts over the top of the brake drum. Other differences would be the #5003 trans has a flat tension pulley, and the #5010 trans has a "V" pulley. The inside of the transmissions work the same with just a couple of upgrades. The number of teeth between bull gears and the mushroom gear for instance.

We were thinking the same thing. There were 2 cellar holes and multiple unmapped side roads. There are three campsites at the parking area. Next year we may stay there a night or 3 and do some exploring. In the video that's over a minute long you can see that it's next to the old cellar hole of the family homestead. Not sure if it's original to the site or moved by a government entity at some point. Here in Maine it was standard practice to have a small family burial plot on the property. Some are still used today. There are towns that have over 200 little graveyards then several public graveyards or cemeteries. (Not the same thing). Trina and I are very interested in history and this site has fascinated both of us. I'll try to remember to share whatever we find about the area.

Grandson practice on the homemade ski trainer Grandsons took Nanny on her first trailer ride 2 of my sons and oldest grandson went out on the sailboat Still warm enough for a slightly cool swim Always swing time Dirk my daughter-in-laws Malinois wanted a ride. He was tired from practicing at a Security Protection dog Club event. Her bite practice padded suit doesn’t have enough padding for him to practice on me!
