9 pointsA friend of mine has sold most of his collection of Ransom crawlers. He did have two large Ransom reel mowers. These attracted no interest. So Jonathan removed the engines and made a roller out of one. Another friend of mine bought that off him after I took him to see it. I bought the remains of the other. Below is what I got plus the handles. First mod was to trim the bottoms of the sides, so they wouldn't dig in when behind one of my garden tractors. Next fit the handles. But in front instead of behind to make the draw bar. Two of the side offcuts were made into plates. Utilising the holes already there. A pin off the Cabstar tipper I once owned, makes a good hitch pin. Behind the Sears/Roper ready for a trial. Worked grand though the roller could do with being a little wider. Width of the wheels. But I can't do anything about that. I can offset it on the Sears hitch if I need too. Next job is a frame for the top to carry weights.

8 pointsThere's a few people I need to thank off the bat @johnnymag3 for selling me an engine, that runs great @953 nut for suggesting Garry @gwest_ca for coming up with a wiring diagram that converted a 86 312A to the Raider Most especially to @squonk for his witty banter watching me work. His knowledge and bringing his pullers so he could change the drive pulleys on the engine to convert the automatic pulley over to the gear drive. Then pulling off a stuck on hub. And boy, was it stuck. Hope he didn't ruin his puller. So this is the Raider that was owned by one person for 52 years. It threw a rod and he didn't want to fix it. So I was able to salvage it for basically pennies. So obviously I changed the engine and rewired the tractor. Tightened up the tie rods. Drained the transmission and ran some diesel fuel through a couple of times before refilling it with gear lube. Repaired the transmission pulley for now until I can get a replacement. And took it for it's maiden voyage. For the most part I'm quite pleased with everything. There's some noise from the drive belt, of course the bushing on the steering shaft is shot so another rattle. All in all a good tractor it's a limited slip high low transmission. All gears and ranges seem very good and quiet. Got to put the rest of the sheet metal on but it's done other than some minor TLC. This is what I started with The original engine Pieces parts New engine Rewired Together We'll see where it goes from here, whether I just oil it down or go crazy on it

8 pointsThis morning wife is again decorating the shed. I think that if i stand still long enough she will also decorate me. So she wanted me to quickly makes a handle for her old pitch fork . Doesn’t take much to keep her happy.

6 pointsGot that right Cas.... Missus has been at me for a month of Sundays to put these shelves up and other honey doo stuff and get rid of the computer desk that was there. Now let it be known I am not 1/8 the the sliver wizard as you or some guys here but I can hold my own I don't take a finger off on the table saw. She had to work today and got it done for a surprise when she got home. She couldn't wait to decorate. Rough sawn then planed knotty pine out of our woods, she likes the bark edge thing and it fits in well with the cabin thing we got going on here. Problem is always keeping the bark edge on whe you stuff in in the planer. Any one want a nice computer desk ?!?!?

6 pointsA quick update on Comanche...we have used him for a variety of summer tasks with the new IronMan motor. It is a smooth and strong running engine. my buddy took his little twin girls for a ride and they very much enjoyed it! About two weeks ago my dad (the one with the welding skills) started fabbing up a hitch for a little sod bottom plow that was someone's yard art for a couple of decade. It was apparently a “tool bar” plow probably for a walk behind. Anyone who has a lead on the above cast stamp...feel free to share! Sod bottom is a term that is old school and is used to delineate a plow moldboard that lays back much more than a standard Brinly. They are generally easier to pull and when set up right, cut a really clean and sharp furrow. Dad had some trial and error but looks like he is on the right road. Once we know we have a good functional setup, Caleb will paint it up antique red and I’ll reach out to our favorite decal guy @Vinylguy and see if he can cook up something original and distressed for it. Please understand that dad was testing in a field that had already been “ripped” and so it isn’t a complete representation of its ability. Dad took this video himself while plowing but it seems to be working pretty good. @prondzy Mike if you guys have room, bring one of your 181’s with an 8” this year. Caleb would love to run furrows with you and Comanche👍🏻

5 pointsFigured out this weekend that a $5 wheelchair, a tow strap and a golf cart make for a real fun time! @Achto @prondzy @WHX24 @Shynon this might be more fun than water skiing behind a ! The key is to watch out for the ‘tater patch, loose crushed asphalt with your Jesus Cruisers on and make sure there is plenty of crowd to watch it not work out so well when those things arise!

5 pointsNow that our painting days are getting shorter I figured with the weather today was a good time to paint the rear wheels on the 418-A. I removed the chrome hub caps on the front to see what the condition of the wheels were and there was about a half a tube of grease all over every inch of both wheels. decided not to paint them at this time. Both side covers and footrests were done in late August. I recently bought this and have been doing a few things as time allows. Painted the black center of the rear hubs and installed a rear hitch for the 48'' dozer blade that I have not used since the early 90's and thought I would try it with a Hydro tractor for cleaning up after light snow storms. Have included pics when it came home and a few from today.

5 pointsFINALLY got the wheel spacers on the 1055 ..... what a bunch of screwing around! Hardware issues mostly. Spacers are all set up for 1/2-20. Studs are of course 7/16 but the studs I had were too short ... githerdone! Drilled the hub holes out to 1/2" and used 1/2-20 x 2" bolts. Dang near killed me to take the 7/16 threads out of the hubs but I just kept telling myself @Achto has no problem removing 60 yo metal! Lock washers are ther 'cause the bolts were just a 1/8" too long. Thanks Dan you corrupted me! Wonder if 60 years from now some FO (future owner) will go ... WTF was this guy thinking?!?!? Before After Amazing what just an 1 1/2 will do. Rears line up perfect with the new V-61's on wider rims on the front now.

5 pointsLook what showed up yesterday. It was ordered nearly six months ago when our main fridge died. Mrs. K is happy at last.... no more trips to the old back up fridge in the garage. Yep, when Mama's happy...We all happy.

4 pointsI just bought a '88 520H. Got it running in the prior owners driveway to make sure it really ran. Carb needed to be cleaned, fuel line replaced, new fuel pump, new fuel filter and new rubber grommet for the fuel tank. Drained tank on the remaining gunk. Put gas in the float bowl and its running....even battery is ok. Oil change is next along with rear eng oil change. Anything else that need to be done. Also had a trac vac, plow and 48" deck...825 hrs.

4 pointsI finally got around to mounting my new grader blade on to one of my tractors. My C-141 8 speed seemed to be a good candidate. My neighbor was doing some land scaping & I ask him if I could smooth out the dirt and ruts that he made with his compact tractor. I had a lot of fun playing with my new toy. The little bit I did with it turned out pretty good too.
-
4 pointsSure !!!! Blame me right away. I think it looks much better with the spacers. I would probably ditch the lock washers and use flat washers on the bolts though. I've seen too many lock washers split apart. Not a place where you would want this to happen.

4 pointsGot a co-workers tractor here for diagnosis and repair...so why not a side shot
-
4 pointsI vote to see you go crazy on it! A big chrome stack for the 16 HP thumper, Flames, Tail Fins, Let your imagination and some extremely poor judgement be your guide!

4 pointsTook a few pics of the new to me C 160, and 48" Deck.......and optional goodies that came with it
-
3 pointsYah guess I had that one coming Randy .... before ... After
-
3 pointsYou know Dan it seems you don't even need ags, weights or anything to hve a good time with those blades.
-
3 pointsIt's funny, I have no need for a grader, but the more I see you guys posting your graders and the jobs you do, Oh dear, I would like to have a grader. @ebinmaine Can you email one of those too? Please!
-
3 pointsI believe Dan is writing about the not as common "double split" washers. It's a condition occasionally incurred upon usage of a split washer.
-
3 pointsAgreed but hardware stores here are somewhat limited. ... unless you want to come and open up the 7/16 grade 8's I had .....yup thought so! Like I said Dan it was a githerdone! She was prompt put to work hauling garbage out to the burn pit!

3 pointsMy 520-H was packed with grass and dirt. I suggest you remove the engine cover and clean the cooling fins. The hood stand and the hydro was also packed. Altogether I removed about a half a bushel of dirt and grass.

3 points@Stepney Spenser stopped by and I threw a few Wheelhorse parts at him. He's helping someone out by fixing up a "woods find" round hood. Great to see some of our pile o parts being used to get a horse back on its feet.

3 pointsMulched the leaves in the yard again today. I didn't really *need* to do it yet, but I was having a crappy day and guess what? I felt much better after an hour or so tooling around on my WH making noise and clouds of dust. Edit: I'm sure nobody else here understands that.

3 pointsYou can put flow control valves inline in the cylinder you are trying to slow down too.

-
3 pointsOh no, This all black Wooly Booger must be lost. Think I'll ship him North where he belongs. UPS, USPS, or FedEx Eric ? @ebinmaine

3 pointsRed Square Red Tractors Rode a wheelchair instead though. Awesome Friends. Great Times!

3 pointsNice job! You bought the blower and got the rest tossed in! That hood notch doesn’t look terrible and it gives your machine some more character. I’d see about getting it to fire up, then get a shift knob to protect the jewels... and have a good time making room for the next one!
-
3 pointsHope he had the trailer safety chains attached to the hitch. make parts retrieval a lot easier!
-
3 pointsIndependent what color your Rims have other Color( as far as i remember to read) firstly i thought replate , but if they bee to bad in shape you can sandblast, powdercoat in the Rim’s color and as the tip of the i - an applications with a brush and red color the Wheelhorselogo and the Text. Think that will look extreme sexy. @echris i like my creative Chaos.. 😂
-
3 pointsIronically...other than some surface scaling like Eric said, the frame looks really good. The rockers and door lowers—that’s unfortunately a different story! I have owned the excursion for about 7 years and it now has almost 360,000 miles. It is a great vehicle within its intended purpose but keeping a body on a salt belt vehicle is nearly impossible😡
-
3 pointsgot it home today it's a 605 with a 8hp briggs motor on it, no spark I gave it a WD-40 bath and looked it over, the blower is in decent shape but the mower deck has a bad spot that that I could repair but I don't plan on using the mower anyway, I take it the H60 motor was changed out for the 8 hp briggs, that must mean the hood and grill were notched out for the air cleaner? who ever cut it out did a factory job but now that hinders me from trying to go original and putting an H60 back in it, any thoughts on what path I should take with it? 150.00 brought it home and it's solid and best of all I like it......

3 pointsSo for quite sometime I had this shed . At the time I got it it was just put on blocks since i did not have time for any footings. Sure enough over the years between the flood which placed a ton of sediment against the front of it and the tunnel system underground by Mr Ground hog , the sill plates rotted and the whole shed was virtually collapsing on one side. Had to raise entire shed replace all sills this time doubling them ,dig and pour footings. Decided to also make a deck in front. It’s been three weeks of hard work all by myself but finally except for some paint on replaced parts she is looking good. Even wife got into it and made some valences for windows and put candles at windows. Incredibly she also asked me to place one of the 35s as an ornament there. Center section of fence is clipped in with z clips and comes out to place ramp when needed. I ordered a nice long ramp of aluminum 7-6” x 48” long.

2 pointsHad a little test & tune day today. My nephew thinks that he wants to become a pumpkin farmer next summer & asked if I wanted to plow part of his lawn under. Dumb question!!! Of course I'll take an opportunity to plow, specially some ones lawn. And Lord only knows the last time that this soil was tilled. My friend Jason has been having a bit of a time getting his 12" Brinly to plow correctly. last time we had a get together we discovered that the back bone on his plow was bent. He straightened it but we don't think that it's quite there yet, as it would pull his Snapper GT around. Hopefully he'll get a chance to tweak it & try it again before J&C plow day. Joel has his Landlord tuned in pretty well. He was plowing pretty deep with absolutely no trouble at all. My Raider was doing what I built it to do, turn soil. Take a look at these near text book furrows. It only took a short time for our trio to knock off a little more than 1/2 an acre.

2 pointsWater based poly will be fine. As Eric said you should give it three coats with light scuffing between coats. Here is what to watch out for. Many people stain their floors with a oil based stain and then finish the floor with a water based finish. Nothing wrong with that, however most never allow enough drying time for the stain. What happens is that floor eventually develops "pimples" which are not only tactile, but also visible specially if it is a glossy finish. What is happening is that the stain carrier is trying to evaporate and when it finds the water based film it dissolves it creating the "pimples". This happens specially in porous woods like red oak since the stain goes deeply into the pores. Sometimes this happens quite a bit after floor was finished such as when one turns on the house air conditioning or heating. The different atmospheric conditions will accelerate the evaporating of the carrier. Any oil stain that I use must dry for two weeks before if I am to apply any finish with a different carrier than it.
