I truly missed seeing everyone smiling on their tractors at the Big Show this year! So It was great to see big smiles again at Jim and Patti’s meet and greet in Maine last month- and just yesterday in the back yard with @AMC RULES! Please share your favorite pictures on your until we meet again!

There's a whole new dibs tractor here in this little, 30+ Horse New York town. This Senior was recently rescued from the state of Georgia and is currently believed to be of the '54-'55 vintage.

I got a brand new tombstone weight bracket and wanted it to match the patina on my 753 and tombstone so I painted the bracket and chemically enhanced the rusting process for a real rust patina match. This is not brown primer and black paint splotches but true rusted paint matching. The bracket was then oiled after the rust process to preserve the patina this process is more labor intensive than a good paint job and took around a week to get it looking right.

Yeah I’ll probably get jacked up about this posted but I have wanted to do this for along time and I am finally doing it. Started as a 1257 that was tore apart had some 702 fenders and tool box laying around and got the front narrow front for a friend that is very well built. Went and bought a 22hp vtwin for the sweet sound and this is also going to be used for field plowing here in about three weeks, everything is pretty much done I need to figure out some odds and ends. Anyone have experience with chain driven steering I would like some input on how big the front gear should be and how big the rear one should be, also how to Aline pulleys off the motor to the transmission and how big of pulley I should put on the motor. I will be pretty exciting to see how it works, all around if it gets done

I just got on FB market and clicked on a Case 210 when I went back to the main page this was just listed for what I thought was a no brainer. I got ahold of my cousin (I don’t do FB) to message him with a offer and he excepted (I probably could’ve offered less ) after being listed for 12min total. My cousin had to meet him yesterday at a fire station. Said a old man was cleaning out a shed and putting things on the curb and he scored it for free. This is the closest you can get to NOS and I think that it might be a factory hitch pin . He did replace the tires as he said the originals were to far gone. The wife isn’t to happy and I can’t wait to see the reaction from my son but it was to good to pass up.

I don't know if this is common knowledge or not, but an old timer back in the day taught me to use a hammer to cut out the gasket paper when making your own. Most surfaces we need to seal on these old machines have a sharp edge. Just place the gasket paper on top of the surface to be sealed and hold it tightly in place. Using a small hammer, tap the gasket paper against the sharp edge at about a 45 degree angle. You don't have to tap hard at all. Just repeat until the paper separates. For the holes, just use the right size ball peen and tap the center of the hole a few times. Perfect paper gaskets every time. The same works when masking off sealing surfaces for paint. Like the head and cylinder of the snowblower I'm working on. Works beautifully! Any of you guys use this process when you roll your own?

Just know that it didn't come without a fight Kevin. Definitely worked me and my collection over hard to get it here. That said, let it be known...a Senior is referred to the holy grail W-H for a reason...hats off to Jason Crappo @whtractors24 for lighting a fire under my ass to get this deal done! Here's hoping Jason can post up an image of a smile on his face here too.

Needed a complicated Zenith carb gasket. Placed the carb top down on a flat bed scanner. After a couple of tries got a full scale image. Used spray adhesive to attach the image to the gasket material and cut it out. Worked like a charm. Garry

Yes, I used the ball peen hammer to make vellumoid gaskets for pipe bolting flanges up to 24". It cut 1/32 to 1/8" vellum. In my application, the sheet gasket was fastened to the flange with contact cement holding it in place while the bolt holes were cut or marked with the hammer head.. I usually cut an x in the hole then hold a hammer head slightly larger than the hole on the x, then tap it with another hammer.

Growing up I never knew you could buy a ready made gasket, this is the only source of gaskets we knew existed.
  26. 4 points
Means you aren't trigger happy and were a very discerning buyer. Most of us would have amassed an entire heard given a year to do so!

I just realized I missed the best part of the trick. Make the holes with the ball peen first. Make the first hole, then insert a pin/bolt. Then insert hardware through the rest of the holes as you make them and keep alignment when cutting out the gasket.

Gosh, guess it’s time to update this forgotten thread! Ol ‘Hoss’ is doing well! She got the hopped up K321 transplant and is taking care of everything except cutting grass. Today’s job: yanking the plow and blade around, turning some political promises from my sisters horse farm into this clay so maybe things will grow next year.

I found the wheels and tires on an old craftsman mower that was in someones front yard for sale. The tires are old carilisle super lug and they are hard as a rock, make good pullers. The wheels are 8” wide and have a different offset then the wheel horse wheels and tuck under the fenders nicely “I think anyhow”. I agree with eb turfs with chains are hard to beat in the snow.

I'm heading out to see this 1277 Wheel Horse in a couple of hours. I think I will be able to convince my wife that her garden will be ready in the Spring. I wonder if there's a sickle attachment? I think that's asking too much. I will send more pictures this afternoon.

I was looking for a pic in one of my old posts tonight and realized I had signed up here in July 2019 and didn't post until I was about to finally buy my first WH in June 2020. What does that mean? I was searching for almost a year for my first WH, all the while lurking here soaking up knowledge from you crazy bastages. Thanks!

Don’t worry @echris, I was a late bloomer too. I had 1-3 Wheel Horses for about 5 years ‘fore I got into the collecting mood...

Thank you ball for your suggestions. Yesterday I did order a new belt and idler pulley as it does squeal when engaging. Once all the parts arrive I will check all the items you mentioned. Hopefully I will find a cure.

This tells me there is no problem with the engine. The engine torque is not getting the power to the ground. This could be due to belt slippage caused by a bad belt, dirty engine or transmission pulleys, bad idler pulley, or weak idler pulley spring. Power can also be lost in a loose axle hub with a sheared key in the hub or the transmission pulley. There is also a 1/8" roll pin fastening the clutch lever to the cross shaft to the idler pulley. This pin can shear and cause the lever to slip and not transfer the spring load to the idler pulley. If the belt is slipping for any length of time, there should smoke and smell from the burning belt. I would look for a loose hub first, then the sheared key in the cross shaft lever.

Talk with the owner, if it is what he says it is...go get that tractor. We'll help you getting the rest of it squared away...no big deal.

Thanks to all for your advice. I am going to take my time and see a few tractors before I buy. I will be back to post updates. Again many thanks to all who responded. Paul G

Not technically “food”, but can certainly substitute in a pinch... A Detroit original: (also, after hoisting a few cold ones, helps discern Michigan’s notorious weather)....

General consensus seems to be that snow tires want chains and WEIGHTS. Note the caps on the word. Traction is about grabbing and you can't push down into the ground without enough weight. I've used all combinations of turfs, ags, chains and no chains. The best traction I've had is with turfs and chains. The AG tires tend to let the chains fall into the wide tread thereby decreasing usefulness of the chain. Lots of weight. ALOT. If you have an asphalt driveway you can use rubber chains with great effect.

There isn't really a link because the seals you need are right in the front page. You have a 308-8 of unknown model. But you DO know you have 1" axles. Easy to find the ones you need. Look at the pdf charts on the page. Scroll down to the 3rd chart which shows info for 6 and 8 speed transmissions. The top half of that chart is for 1" axles as seen in the text.

The 12 HP 1967 tractor is one of the best designs Wheel Horse made. Simple wiring, high fuel tank, simple PTO engagement, front attach a matic make it a very easy machine to maintain. The hydro is a concern, but I have probably had 20 tractors with the Sundstrand hydros and have only had a problem with one. If the oil or ATF in the hyrdo looks clean, I would not be worried about the hydro. As stated above, there is $1000 worth of implements in the deal. The tiller.....a hydro will work, but a gear drive is better for operating a tiller as the tiller will tend to push the hydro. There is a pulley system required to attach the tiller. Make sure you get it as they are difficult to find. Check the deck spindles for noise and bearing play. The snow blower....I see the push/lift rod, but can't see the flag. Make sure you get the flag.
