18 pointsMorning all Took a while but finally made enough room in the corral for all four, now it is hard to hide them ...my addiction has been revealed..... First words from my daughter on walking in..... "hmmm I see FOUR steering wheels Dad, with tractors attached" My thought was "no problem" now I can get two more for the trailer.... I made a small dolly for the rear of the B100 Hydro to make it easier to slide up into its new parking spot. When I lifted the rear end by the trailer hitch I was able to investigate what I thought was a bad axle seal..... crap....I got about a half inch of movement in the left side axle,,,,, hope it didn't tear up the rear end housing.... that will be a surprise for later in the fall. Excuse the mess but it is the first time I got all four housed and put away.....I'm slowly winning the quart in a pint jar dilemma- but losing the battle of Wheel Horse addiction.... Mike B

17 points@rjg854 picked up a nice Raider Sunday and I scored a 75 B-80 with a 4 banger for a Grant and Lincoln (Yay North! ) at an online auction. Had to have Randy (THANKS AGAIN RANDY) pick it up as I'm currently on temporary lockdown. Had to install a used wheel and tire, used battery and put in some nice clean gas from a nice clean gas station. (Fred Flintstone reference) The old gas looked like Mountain Dew. Drained the tank, lines, fuel pump and carb and she took off! Deck has a hole in it. Haven't driven it yet but it sounds good!

10 pointsI think Wheel Horse values have tanked in the last several years, but the C-195 has tended to retain much of its worth. The discussions early in this thread were kind of sowing the seeds of hope that you’d get it for dirt cheap, but I would have really been surprised if that happened. I would have been happy for you though. If you want it or need it that thing is probably worth his $1000 asking price. You’re not likely to find another one so close to home in a long time…maybe ever unless a local collector ends up with one they imported and decide to unload. They were expensive and not very common when new since practically the same money would buy a nicer and more modern John Deere or Cub Cadet. I think it was easier for the JD and CC dealerships to move the bigger stuff since they were also in the real tractor business and had a different crowd walking through the door. Wheel Horse dealers were fundamentally selling suburban tractors to suburban owners, not utility tractors to large property owners. Besides that, people used to do more with less so it wasn’t uncommon for a person with an acre yard to mow with a 36” deck. A 4-footer was a real acre-taker in those days, so the 60” deck was a comparative monster. If you can negotiate him lower, great. But I wouldn’t expect him to have trouble selling it with a listing on this site or elsewhere since he’ll easily find someone willing to travel for it. If it was any other C-XX5 series then it wouldn’t have the same gestalt or appeal. It would be just another 40-year old red thing. But the C-195 is different since it was WH’s final salvo at staying in the Super Garden Tractor market. I don’t remember the complete story about these, but the gist of things is that some dealers convinced Wheel Horse they could sell a heavy duty tractor to replace the rather unwieldy D-auto series. So WH put the team to work beefing up the venerable C-series platform to take bigger attachments. Who knows how many design hours went into the wacky rear PTO arrangement that they conjured. It was a flop. Very poor seller. Much wailing and gnashing of teeth by the bigshots. They probably only built enough to finish out the initial runs of special parts that had to be made. I thought the number was in the 400’s that they sold, but maybe it was more. The least common was the 1984 model. Even the German/French/Italian D250 oddity sold in larger numbers than the whole run of C-195’s…but that was another sore spot wherein it took nearly a decade to sell three model years’ worth of tractors. Anyway, I looked for one for years. YEARS. Even living in South Bend for a while I found they were in short supply and generally not for sale. Eventually I ended up with three of them from three different states, the last one coming from close to home. They’re all gone now. It’s been a while, so this is foggy but I think the regular 48” mower decks fit these tractors. I think there is an interference problem with the rear gage wheels and rear tractor tires on the 42’s. The 60” deck is specific to this tractor and was made by Ariens with a lot of the Ariens bracing removed, so it’s a bit wiggly and flexible (recall some of the guys on here years ago called them the flexible flier). The front “mule” pulley box only has one pulley for routing the belt to the 60" deck, the other one is mounted to the tractor frame below the engine. I’ve seen a 520 style 60” deck under a C195, so it apparently can work. I’m pretty sure these require a longer A-frame on the dozer blades so you have to use the D-series stuff, which is a plus since the blades are bigger too. Wouldn’t be surprised if a 520 style extension would get you the extra length. Regular snowthrowers fit, but the lifting tube is different since it needs to be longer. The “flag” is also different. I don’t know if the 2-stage snowblower fits or not. Probably doesn't matter in Tennessee. The normal 36” WH tiller doesn’t work, although I’m sure you can gin up some kind of adapter to make it work and get the belt back there. These were designed to take the 38”/50” 3-pt mounted, PTO driven tiller from the D-autos. But you need the rear PTO kit with the incredibly long V-belt that routes power from the engine pulley up, down, and all around to the rear of the tractor. The WH three point hitch was a category 0 and I never ran into any fit problems with any third party implement. If you have the rear PTO, matching implements need to be 2000 RPM with matching rotation (CW if you are standing behind tractor looking at the PTO shaft). These were better tractors than the D-series in every way. They have better traction and are certainly more user friendly. For whatever reason I don’t think they suffered rear end failure like the D’s or frame failures like some of the other C’s. I guess the differential bolts were better and the Eaton was a stronger transmission. $1000 is a lot of money, but the seller is certainly not out of line in his price. I'm not looking to talk you into this, just offering some background. Steve

8 pointsAs I have already eluded to elsewhere on the forum, I am planning to do an engine swap on my “Old” truck. I purchased this vehicle back in 2016 for a measly $2300. It was/is a rough vehicle typical of a northern Salt Belt driven truck. It has been worked really hard many a day and I feel up until my ownership—not taken care of all that well. I sold a Cub Cadet that I made a good profit on and had enough money to but this worker. “Why buy an old beater like this?” Residential construction is hard on trucks and I was tired of getting dings and scratches in my nice vehicles. Secondly, my Excursion has been laid up for a couple of months with a tranny problem and I liked the idea of having a backup vehicle. I went on a very particular search, almost like I was trying to buy a truck new at the dealership but I only wanted to spend $2500! Here was my check list: —1995-99 K2500 —HD manual tranny —Highway Road geared rear end —extended cab long box —bench seat (to haul the whole family if needed) —5.7 motor —-blue paint Not specific—I know😂 This ad showed up on CL about a month later. It had 179,000 miles. Was optioned almost exactly to the above list except for the bench seat. looked solid in the pics And it was even blue. Albeit someone’s garage painted specimen, the original body color was silver. Turns out it had a lot of body rot under the shoddy replacement skins...more about that later. We struck a deal for $2300 and I had my specialty optioned truck. My plan was to use it a couple of years and then get rid of it and buy a newer beater. BUT WAIT! There was a problem! I got to liking old Warrior too much. Here he is one of the first days out on the job site of a new house I was framing. A little later when the house was framed and roofed. tires were shot and I found these Weld Evo 8’s. I ended up scoring them for $180 and a set of Blizzak Load E’s for an additional $500. Funny how wheels can so drastically change a vehicle! The gas tank was rotten and the fuel system nasty. I changed to a 34 gallon polymer with new stainless straps, new 1996 and later fuel pump, all new lines, filter and filler neck. I worked it hard over the next several years but took care of the mechanicals as I always do with any of my machines. Found a rustfree tail gate and finally ended up painting that to match the body. Here we are at a garage addition a few years ago. Anyway, it was time to think about an engine replacement as the old 5.7 was approaching 220K and seemed like it couldn’t get out of the way of its own shadow. I was planning to find a low mile 5.7 TBI and build it up to about 300hp when several of my buddies, not the least of which was @pullstart said, “why don’t you do an LS swap?” Good point. Bulletproof engine. Better fuel economy, double the power. Problem? The price. It is easy to end up paying $1000 or more for just an engine. Once again...I was specific. I wanted an LQ4 6.0 out of a truck. Under 200K that was in a vehicle so I could hear it run.... Enter exhibit A: a 2004 Express 2500 with 167,000 miles. Fully functional except no reverse. picked it up for less than a grand! Now the work begins. please tag anyone you think from the forum who has a background or interest in this type of swap. @ZXT @Achto @wheelhorseman @19richie66 @ebinmaine

7 pointsDrove it around the yard with the deck on. Sounds good and cuts decent . The made it thru the first round of cleaning. going to have to get the hood stand welded by the lift arm and the deck fixed. Normal rot around the front roller.

6 pointsHusband and I spent MY DAY OFF just right, with the horses!☺️ We rearranged the horses in the shed so more could fit... He had to play on his old project-but new runner again before putting it away!!! He has been tempted to sell it, but just recently got it put together and running! I told him “watch you get it running you won’t want to sell...” I was right as always!! 😁 So YES he has decided to keep it! Hint REASON for rearranging the horse heard in the shed so he could put it inside over winter! He mowed some with it, throwing things at me! Lol... Camera girl always gets her man no matter how dangerous! 😉. He refuses to paint it...🤔. He has dubbed it “Rusty”. Guessing it’s hear you stay!😂. We are now on the look out for a RUSTY heat shield and original foot rest, if anyone has for sale! IMG_6442.MOV

6 pointsOK guys, don't get your shorts in a bunch. Gee's Jim, I was gonna wait till I mounted it on a tractor to show pictures. I had inquired about a center blade that was part of a package sale. Seller said that he was going to wait to see if the package sold and to hit him up in a couple weeks. I patiently waited about 4 weeks before I contacted him again. At that time he was willing to part with the blade and offered it at a price that I could not refuse. It's in pretty good shape. I can't wait to be able to play with it.

5 pointsPut the newly painted wheels back on.Really liking the “canvas white” rustoleum.

5 pointsYour charger is model 1-7231 indicating it has the Sundstrand Hydro-Gear Model 90-2046 power system. You MAY be able to get at the SEAL and/or O-RINGS behind the NYLON CAM...that's what is leaking. It comes apart like this: This is SO MUCH easier to do if pump is off the tractor... As for the TOW VALVE...take it off and clean up the interior stem ...as in pics here. Repair of the parking brake will require splitting the gearbox... to replace the PARKING PAWL. There are TWO types of Parking Pawls...yours would be part # 5966 and they work exactly the same.

5 pointsHeirloom stuff there Denny! Priceless time with Grandpa that can’t be quantified. Seems like yesterday that Caleb drove his grandpa’s Wheel Horse for the first time at about age 6 and now he owns two and has helped restore two others! Thanks for sharing this special moment with us...👍🏻

4 pointsI put the rubber in first then push the valve in it I used dish soap And I didn't have that mush trouble with it. The hardest thing for me was trying to get the clamp over the hose. It's really a tight fit for the hose.

4 pointsJoin the queue and get in line. Some of us have been waiting in eager anticipation for 13 months.

4 pointsThanks for the compliment. Unfortunately it's a mark of wasted youth. I should have been out drinking beer and chasing women. Maybe there is still time.
-
4 pointsDave is right you MAY be able to do it on the tractor...but you would have to be nimble...and lucky. You are going to need a 12 pt 1/4" socket to get the 3 bolts out. If your motion control has the 2 O rings shown on Daves picture above, pm me you address i will send them to you. I use a square one for the larger ring easier to keep in place when installing.

3 pointsPEACEMAKER JACK, yes those LS SWAPS ARE SO WORTH IT, the fact that you can program check out function and repair in addition to much better mpg , with a plug in . living in a rust belt area myself , many years ago is started to regularly use lubriplate chain and cable aerosol spray , in every confined area of my cars , in addition to totally doing the underside and touch up as needed at oil change time. 14 years on my car now , not a speck of rust , i also water spray down the under side as often as needed. get in side those confined areas , in wheel wells and inside body seams, with a lighter oil to creep into seams , then after few days , over spray the same areas with a heavier oil , to draw it in , good luck pete

3 pointsI talked with the repairman today when I went in to pay him for the tractor. I found out the original owner was 90+ years old and he bought the Raider brand new in 1968. I asked him why he didn't just fix the engine and keep it. John told me the fella said, I'm just to old to be able to use it anymore, with tears in his eyes. I suppose that's why the Raider is so unmolested. I've located an engine, so this tractor will live on. While I install the engine, I'll update all the wiring add some lights and change the fuel lines, flush the transmission, and install a new ignition switch which was robbed from the dash. So I'm thinking over the winter I'll do a wet sand on the sheet metal and either clear coat it or just coat it with MMO and call it close enough.
