16 pointsSo my folks had a string of bad luck this summer with a couple of older Simplicity (one was Deutz branded Simplicity) tractors and I was in a spot where my wife and I could do something nice for them. I found this 312-8 on Facebook Marketplace local to them. Looked clean, excellent seller reputation and it's the right color, so after they checked it out a bit it went home on their trailer. I was just reading a thread about these 312-8's on here and the consensus seemed to be that they are solid, strong workers.

8 pointsWell my wife and I drove 300+ miles today to pick up this nice 48" deck for my 520H.......
-
6 pointsWhat started out as a gloomy foggy day ended up quite bright when the sun popped out and five bluebirds had a pool party in my bird bath. They were then joined by a yellow finch.
-
6 pointsSnatched up a 312-8 today 5 miles from house for a super solid price! One owner, just maintained everything from belts to battery. I unloaded it, cut the grass for 10 minutes, got bored and fired up the 1277 to finish🤣 Whatta machine though! She will get a coat of wax and flipped to a new home in the spring. Also did a pulley change on Hoss (hey @WHX24 you read that??😄) went from 1.5 ratio to 1:1 and fit the belt guard as well. No more slip, no more aggressive clutch, and still about 8mph, plenty for a trail ride.

5 pointsThe guy I got it from is a repairman that got it from the owner. It's got a broken rod, so he was going to scrap it. So I figured it's got many good parts on it so why not part it out. Better than going to the big corral in the sky.

4 pointsWell I haven't picked it up or looked at it yet. Came home yesterday morning from the grocery store and noticed someone following me all the way to my driveway. He pulls up beside me and says "I noticed you had a wheel horse stickers on your truck"? well comes to show of he has a tractor which is five minutes away from me. He wantsto get rid of because he's moving. It's a C1 95. No price was set yet because I don't know the condition of it as of yet. Any ideas on the value of this. Is this particular model desirable ?

4 pointsI live in a rural farming area the landscape peppered with small water holes and lakes where the gravel roads have to go around this makes for some interesting curves. Few years ago we had a home invasion, two guys entered the house while we were sleeping, This morning two guys pull into the yard asking if i had any battery's or rads to sell, told them had none for sale then told them about the home invasion and had since installed security cameras. The two guys jump into their truck and hightail it out of the yard. When I noticed the front plate missing, decided to follow, these guys were full scared, gravel back roads 100 mph, kept on their ass hoping they would run into a dead end equipment road. No such luck, but this told me they were locals as they knew the roads much to well. The chase ended but I'll know their identity before the end of the day, there's only a three outlets where gasoline can be purchased, I just want them to know they've been unmasked. My 97 Dodge Ram handled fair on the marbled gravel, the ABS not as claimed.

4 pointsSo I had to try tossing 1 led in as it was since I have a bag full and surprisingly they work but surprisingly it's worse of a change from wide open to idle. They don't even work at idle ha. I swapped everything over and used the existing switch and just changed where it was getting fed to be from the ignition instead of from the orange ac wire and it's happy and bright. Thanks!

4 pointsThanks guys! I was a bit late to the party this year, I havent had much time to get on here! I have just been working the horses! The 525exi has been getting ALL the work. It needs to come down this fall possibly and get a hydraulics overhaul and have a bushing installed on the power steering mount. I hope I get to it before the winter time. That one is my all around heavy worker. The 854 needs a new engine installed but I was hoping to find someone to rebuild one of the spare ones I have laying around before spending the time on it. The C-105(165) still has an engine stutter that I cannot sort out and it needs a new fuel tank cap. It also needs a new pair of AG tires. The 35 year old ones on there are starting to wear a bit. Even while I am typing here I am closing the deal on a new Horse Hauler... (This is a terrible picture, its not in my possession yet!) @AMC RULES Craig, that tractor is BEAUTIFUL! It makes me sad to sell it, but I am glad it is living the good life! Can I send you up another one to restore for me? I have been so busy with work and family that I haven't had much time to work on them! @WHX24 Jim the lathe has been pretty quiet for the most part. It did come it and save the day when doing some front end work on my subaru and broke a bolt off in the front hub. I was able to make a bushing that allowed me to drill the bolt out from the backside and not ruin the threads. Saved me several hundred dollars and another few days of work! I love having it and hope to use it more, but it just makes me want a mill!

3 pointsJust bought one of these reels off everybody's favorite bidding site. Put in a bid I felt was reasonable (maybe a tad low), and surprisingly won it. It's a "Humphrey's" model 3A stainless reel. I'm not really into vintage fishing gear, but I have always enjoyed fishing ever since I was a kid. I was lucky enough to have a pond next door I could fish whenever I wanted. I bought this because I like the looks of it, and the all stainless construction. Plus it's a unique reel that you dont see often. Here's a pic of the reel, or at least an ad for it from the 50's or 60's. I'll post more once I get the reel if there's any interest. I would like to use this reel, though I'll have a little learning curve, as I'm use to a spinning reel.

3 pointsOh boy...With the virus this summer I haven’t had to wear real shoes very much so I resemble that remark, LOL.

3 pointsPlease no pictures of you in flip flops and your Speedo. Especially if the water is cold !!

3 pointsIf it says John Deere, Harley Davidson, Corvette, or dances on a stage, you're gonna pay for it!
-
3 pointsThat's a tight fit. Is that a motorcycle battery? My engine bay may be a bit shorter and narrower, I'm not sure. I'm gonna try and get this hood figured out. That way I know exactly how much room I have to work with.
-
3 pointsNot enough clearance underneath. Getting out of work early today. Something is gonna happen lol
-
3 pointsIf I'd known Skippy I have a nice 48 I have been contemplating selling. I could even have delivered it to the swap meet a couple of weeks ago!
-
3 points@Tractorhead I'm definitely thinking of sliding the hood a bit so the grille has a rake to it. As fast as cutting the hood to be flush with the tower, there is a 1" tab on the tower facing the seat that strengthens the top of it. I may put the fuel tank so the cap is thru the hood. If I go with hinges they will definitely be hidden. Thanks for the ideas. Keep 'em coming. It helps as I sit and stare at it designing.

3 pointsA museum will show you things of yesterday, but you never get to see how they worked. I would mount it on your tractor and let any child that wished to pull the lever so they can hear the horn. That horn was mounted on the outside of a vehicle and bounced around for years before it landed in your hands. I think it should take some light abuse yet.

2 pointsI hear that it can take 10, 20, 30 or more years to age fine Whiskey. These projects are on about that timeline. It started in July 2015 when I brought this "1960 Parts Suburban 400" home. I figured I'd see if I found anything to add to it. So I disassembled it and gradually e-Tanked, blasted and primed what was usable. I've been using Red Garnet 50 mesh and 36 mesh in my homemade blast cabinet. I usually E-tank th epart to remove rust and paint, then blast to put a profile on the metal to promote primed adhesion (That what I learned from the industrial paint reps at work) Did some JB Weld repair to smooth the rear rim bead area. Salvaged both front rims. The are that has the red putty was weld repaired by a welder friend. both front rims got the JB weld treatment in the bead area. Painted the rims with this, The Almond is a shade too dark. The next one I will use a Biscuit color in the same paint. It's not a true epoxy, more like an enamel with hardener in a spray can. I really like the way this dries hard-fast and with a good shine. Christmas 2017 brought some new Ag's for the rear. The frame had been extended on the rear and I cut that off back to original length and welded up some extra holes. The spindles have a lot of wear. I haven't repaired these yet. I tried to find someone to machine these if I welded or brazed them up, but there such an odd shape no one wanted to mess with them. I'm thinking I will use roller bearings instead of the cast iron bearings, so this repair will need to be close, but not bearing surface perfect. Cleaned up all the hardware and primed it. We'll see if I use it or go stainless. I soaked the Choke/Throttle plate in Evapo-Rust and could barely see a serial number. I then polished some aluminum on my grinder buffing wheel with white rouge until the pad was good and black. Then I polished the plate and the black brought the serial number out nicely. This number falls just above the 1st 1000 Suburban's built per the numbers @gwest_ca maintains on the manual's page . The transmission casting date B3-0 February 3rd-1960 and the solid seat pan while not conclusive, go along with the serial number pointing towards this being an early Suburban. I'm calling this a suburban 400. But it's interesting the 2 holes in the upper left part of the hood stand match the foot print of the starter solenoid they used on the 551. So there's a little fuzzyness if this should maybe be a 550 or who knows what the Ponds or some PO might have done. I did a thread on the transmission rebuild that I need to find and insert here.

2 pointsSo I made out like a bandit this weekend I sold the huskee mower took my wifes cousin his $250 he gave me $150. Then he gave me a brand new weed beater a small mantis tiller its like new and a homelite chainsaw for free. Then my son in laws dad who isn't the best mechanic in the world but a heck of a nice guy asked if I could help him out. His 212 jd had no spark he bought a new coil and condenser. I told him to check the points didn't know he doesn't know how to mess with them nor does he want to. So I sanded and set them. And presto I got the engine running for him. So he gave me 2 tiny snow blowers both which I got running the same day. I got 1 of them up for sale the other I have more tinkering to do. He also threw in a extra motor and paid me $20 to boot. But the best was my cousins husband I returned the snapper zero turn and he gave me a 1979 simplicity 524 snowbuster. I got it home greased it all up cleaned the points and set them and sprayed it and she popped off. I was excited but then I took the carb off and found out it is not rebuildable major old fuel and water damage. So i am going to buy a new carb. This was a super awesome score weekend!! The snow buster seems to be all there and original from the looks.

2 pointsYap, that‘s a motocycle Battery with 225 CCA, what is enough Power to fire up the Engine easily. I can measure maybe tomorrow and give you my Values. the battery i use is a BlackMax YTZ14-S Motorradbatterie GEL 12V 12Ah YTZ14-4 Batterie GTZ14-4 51201 That fit‘s snug under the Hood. The Battery mount is selfmade out of Plastic i have aside, because i like to built it non conductive. Technical datas ( sorry for the german, but it was a pict) but i believe the Dimensions and compare values may help you. ETN: GEL 511021023 Spannung: 12 Volt Kapazität: 12 Ah Kaltstartstrom: 255 A/EN Länge: 150 mm Breite: 87 mm Höhe: 110 mm Gewicht: 3,9 kg Schaltung: Pluspol links Technologie: GEL (VRLA) Wartungsfrei nach DIN: Ja DIN-Typ: 51121 Kompatibel zu: 51101, 51121, 511902023, CTZ14S, FTZ14S, GTZ14S, TTZ14S-BS, YTZ 14S, YTZ14-S, YTZ14S, YTZ14S-BS Sortiment: BlackMax Plus 30 Motorsport Fahrzeugtyp: Jetski, Motorrad, Quad, Roller Lieferzustand: Neu, gefüllt & geladen = Einsatzbereit Verwendung: Starterbatterie I payed 33€ for it. the height of the battery was 110mm, that give me a clearance of 40mm over all in height to metall parts. if i estimate your build right, that could be comparable. btw i used the same battery on my 212 Horse with an upgraded Loncin 16 HP Engine without any troubles since a year. It fires right up even in Winter use.

2 pointsYou could place a diode inline on your AC circuit, this would change your AC power to DC power. Remaining problem would be that you're still relying on the RPMs of the engine to make the proper voltage. You will be much better off to install LED lights and wire them to the battery via a switch. This will give you constant reliable light and the low draw of LED's will allow your charging system to keep up without issue.

2 pointsA c-195 is one of the Big Wheel tractors. 15 or 16-in rear wheels. VERY desirable. That's a VERY strong, capable worker. Not sure I could really give you a value on it because I'm not very familiar with them.

2 pointsHow about a bit bigger longrange Fueltank, flat end at filler and bigger end (rounded box shape) to tower direction. - with the moved hood i think a Motocycle Battery will fit in front of the Engine incl. Solenoid and regulator, so just a thinner wireharnest have to be brought to the Dash. thiner harnest = easier to hide....

2 pointsThis one has been laying in my parts drawer for a couple years. It has been welded up, but not by a pro. Still, it should suit your needs. $20 ...shipped to your mailbox via Paypal "Send Money to a Friend" My direct email is : daveoman@windstream.net

2 pointsMy efforts look positively pedestrian compared to Kev. I spent a little time in the shop making a litter bin lid for a 45 gal oil drum so we can use it on the community project. Then came a job fixing an expensive Italian dining table that a drunk teenager had table surfed on at a party and collapsed. Had to make steel trusses to strengthen the corners where wood had split. Came out ok. All mixed in with a little tidying up the bone yard ready for a run to the dump.

2 pointsVery true story...not too big, not too small. And you can't beat a kohler engine.

2 pointsIf the voltage drops when the lights are turned on and doesn't recover with in a second or two your charging system is faulty. What model are we talking about here, lots of different systems over the years
