Hi there fellow Wheel Horse owners. Just thought I would post a couple of photos on my progress so far with my first Wheel Horse. I bought my 1991 model 312-8 on August 11th 2020, today is the 20th September 2020. The first photo shows the condition it was in when I brought it home. The second photo shows how it looks today. The belt guard and footplates are in my shed, I have sanded and treated the rust, just waiting for the new paint to arrive. Since buying this 312-8 I have replaced the key switch, cleaned all the wiring contacts, added extra earth cables. I removed the fuel pump and carburetor to give them both a good cleaning. I replaced the fuel pipe, added an inline fuel filter, cleaned the fuel tank, added a new fuel tank tap and bung. The engine has had an oil change, fitted a new air filter and a new starter solenoid. I have also cleaned all the dirt and grime away as I find it. The muffler has been rust treated and repainted. The little tractor now starts first turn of the key, the engine runs really strong having now 691 hours showing on the gauge. Still have a few jobs I need to do, the first being a transmission oil change but slowly but surely this Wheel Horse is returning from neglected to respected. It really is a pleasure to work on such a well built machine. No longer will this little tractor sit outside in all weathers, no more UK winters and rain for this 312-8. At the moment I have just a rain cover for it but I am gathering timber in order to extend one of my sheds so that I can keep " Little Red" in the dry and will probably make the shed extension a little larger as I feel an additional Wheel Horse may arrive. I really like the look of the C160 (1974-1977) 16hp Kohler engine versions. I will add photos as I progress further with my sympathetic restoration of this little beauty. Yes the Wheel Horse bug has definitely bitten!

I finally got my 520H back together. I ended up repainting all the tin - the hood. I replaced most fasteners, electrical connectors and fuel lines. All fluids/filters changed and a new Voltage regulator. Just turned 320hrs, can’t wait to mount the 44” snow blower. BTW I’ll paint the hood next year.

The 854 started to "run out of gas" with about 1/2 tank left. I figured the fuel pump wasn't doing it's job and was relying on gravity feed when the tank was full. It was seeping a little anyways so a rebuild was in order. I was 99% sure it was a pulse style so I went ahead and ordered a kit from then-now.com without verifying it. Glad to see no lever when I took it off. I don't know how distorted the diaphragm can be before it's bad but this one was pretty stretched out. Apparently the kit is for more than one style of pump. The two valves and round gaskets weren't needed but everything else was correct. These folks ship FAST! Got her cleaned up and put back together. I don't have any of the rubber thingys for the metal fuel line fittings so I decided to reuse the old ones. I got lucky. Purrs like a kitten and no leaks.

Brought the horse to my soon to be brother in law's house to do some work. We moved a new hot tub on a trailer because the truck couldn't fit around back and pulled out some shrubs. Here's some pics. He couldn't believe how easy everything was today. He's even mentioned getting one of his own.

First of all I want to apologize for not being as active as usual...had some personal life problems for a few weeks but I’m back and good and ever again That being said on to the topic of this post. This weekend there was a big ranch rodeo in the county seat, and along with the rodeo came a parade. Rodger and I spent several days getting tractors ready. His son in law and two great grandsons took his two seater BN, one granddaughter and her husband took his H, his other granddaughter’s husband took the old Regular, and I took his Cub. First time the Regular had been out in about 4 years and the Cub hadn’t been out in closer to 10. We were the only 4 antique tractors in the parade, and Stephen won the $50 prize for best antique tractor with the Regular.

Firstly i improvision a Workshop as quick as possible. There are a lot of things they must be brought over, but the essentials are there. So i do today a Service Day on all my Machines, they have to work yesterday but especially for my Horse. give all Machines a completely cleanup, than grease them all at least i try to remove that dubious paint mixture, back to it’s old Patina. Now while it‘s covered in a own Shed, i can keep it. Only on the rear fender plate the Paint fluidfilm mixture works and stay‘s. i like my Idea with the Dust- and Raincaps over the Frontaxle spindles. They last and make it look good. Ah forgotten i remounted the original deckwheels back on.

This tractor still needs a few things but after seeing @The Tuul Crib 's project tractor I guess it's ok to show the 420 when I was waiting for a few parts. Nice working on them and a real nice feeling when you can throw a leg over them and go on a test run. I couldn't wait, hence the marine grade carpet seat.

Badger Steam & Gas Club has got outstanding club grounds and I have no idea why I don't exhibit at this show. No show this year of course but on the calendar for 2021. Anyhoo they had a swap meet this past weekend and was dang near a show. Dan was supposed to go with but he said no thanks I'd rather go to work! Lots of hit n miss stuff and hit n miss parts galore. I only had a few short hours to walk the flea market and not much for horse parts but a nice way to spend a Saturday morning. Some kind of H N M in a WH carcass. More when I get to my shop and real internet.

Started getting the 315-8 ready for winter and just a general going over . Replaced fuel line and filter , changed oil and filter and some rust issues . I'm in the process of changing out grade 5 for stainless on all my units . Not sure if it's the quality of metal in the fasteners , my garage is damp , using it for winter duty and the snow/water or a combo of everything . The fasteners rust and it spreads to the tin . Some of these pics are the 416-8 but I like the finished product of stainless . Have a tool bag here with all my stainless itemized in bags by size . Had to order more yesterday want the Philips head 1/4" in the shift plate and dash and I ran out of washers and a few others . Including a picture of the rust I'm getting on this grade 5 stuff . Started this about a year ago the carriage bolts on the steps seemed to be the worst - now each time I have a work project on one, my stainless bag comes out .

Sorry Craig but I just couldn't resist this tractor it makes such a great side shot. To think we had all that fun last Saturday and today I was up on a ladder installing the siding on the addition by myself while Patti was at work and thinking how quiet it was here without all of you guys tooling around on nice tractors . I even used the porta-john for the memory before they take it away until next September.

Mounted up some V61s for the 1055 and touched up the mounting scratches. Couldn't install the other one... short on wheel bearings. Just gotta have a talk with the parts guy here! These are deep dish style rims @pullstart gave me off a parts Sears he got at a auction. Thanky Kev. Spacer bushings need to made to run them and would have been REAL handy to have a lathe to turn them to lenght. Need to have a talk with the tool manager too!

Changed the engine oil and tranny oil and filter on the 1076 yesterday. Today I did both 68 Commandos and the 854. Only have the 16 auto and C160 left to do, but I'm waiting for the filters that I ordered to get here. That way everything will be ready for winter. Most will sit till Spring, the 1076 will be the plow tractor and the 16 auto has blower duty.

Hey Doc, a Nice hauler. don‘t let you annoy by the Ford guy‘s. Ok, about the Color we can discuss why it was not Red.. 😂 i have realized the rulez of the Brands my Way... GM. = Get More Ford = For outstanding reliable disasters The Focus ST from the Sohn seems to subscribe that once more.

@The Tuul Crib For the first time I decided to go to another source and that was a mistake because it set me back about 4 weeks on the 420. I placed a large order through a Company in Texas and they sent the order to Berwick Maine instead of North Berwick Maine and then back to Texas until I placed a phone call to find out where my parts were. Back to the dealer for me who has always taken good care of me for 30 plus years. The 420 is pretty much done other than the carb needs to come off and a good cleaning should do the trick.

The steam engine with the 36 bottom plow knew it had a load on it, but it was not barking like it was going at full load. Got to remember that steam engines make maximum torque at zero RPM. On the other clip, I didn't know that JD made roto tiller attachments that big.

Picked this up off FB Marketplace yesterday. Its a "Hercules" 1/2 ton, spur-gear style chain hoist. Made by "Chisholm - Moore" out of Tonawanda NY. Looks like it is all there and functions well, I do need to get a couple new screws for the chain guide, as some are missing. It also looks like the guide is slightly off center, so I'll have to look at that. Can't find much info on this hoist. Not like the Yale units that seem to be more common. Think I did pretty well. He was asking $60, and he accepted the $40 offer I made him.

No the seat is original. The original owner kept it indoors. Unfortunately the guy I bought it from left it out for a time, albeit in the shade under a pine tree. Seat pan and floor boards were rusting and I replaced the chrome air cleaner but the seat is original. I did shine it up a bit though....

Dirty carb usually is the cause of the ONAN surge. Only surging off load may be the low speed jet. I would pull the jets and clean the orifices with spray carb cleaner.

Those anniversary decals and paint on yours looks so good compared to mine. Wish the previous owner took better care. Decals are all cracked and faded, need to get a set of 60th decals made at some point. That thing looks great!

Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry that originated back in the 1200s if I remember right. The lines do not need to rhyme though it's neat if they do. The premise is that you have a maximum of 17 syllables with five on the first line, seven on the second line, five on the last line.

You're correct! Love hearing stories like that. Neither Trina or I has ever been much of a wine drinker. But of us love it when folks "do" for themselves. We are, more and more each year. @Andy N. Super cool that you and the wife take the time to do this. Nice work. Keep us posted on the results.

Show us more! Our backwoods wine making consist of pasture fence row wild muscadine grapes. These are typically ripe early to late July around central Texas. A couple of one gallon small mouthed jug style containers and balloons. Cook the grapes with water and strain the grape juice through fine cloth (like your going to make grape jelly). Use the old father-in-laws low-tech recipe. As the wine ferments the balloon blows up, as the fermenting slows down (about 4 weeks) the balloon shrinks and the wine is ready. We've learned if the balloon pops I added to much sugar. (sometimes you can try another balloon and if it has off gassed enough you might save the batch). If the balloon doesn't blow up much we made vinegar. Forgive me for stealing your thread, but this brings up a "grape" story.... @ebinmaine you'll like this! I was dating my to be wife, and she wanted to make grape jelly. Her dad also wanted some grapes for his wine making. Being the country boy suitor that I was I naturally took a walk with her down to their low roofed barn which was overhung by large Oak trees full of muscadine grape vines. I climbed up on the barn roof and easily picked a couple of 5 gallon buckets of grapes. My wife had a new jelly recipe that was to make an almost purple/clear (not cloudy) grape jelly. You were to cook the water and grapes but not mash them. Then you were to put the water/cooked grapes in a linen pillow sack and suspend it for the juice to drip out. Needless to say we had a ton more grapes than we needed. But we uses them all. We suspended SEVERAL pillow sacks full of grapes from broom sticks held up by chairs in their bath tub. The grapes dripped into large crocks setting in the tub. By the time we were done juice coated the tub purple. We made enough juice to make all the wonderful jelly and wine her mom and dad wanted. We even had leftover juice to freeze and give away. I'm sure her mon and dad had a good laugh at us young-uns ......and that tub had a purplish tint for several years.

Did some much needed work on my GTO this week. I finally decided that my 24 year old Firestone Firehawks has outlived their usefulness. So after much comparison and deliberation, I decided on Nitto NT555R’s for the back meats. While I had the rear wheels off, I further made the decision to replace the rear brake shoes and the leaking wheel cylinder. One of these days I’m going to splurge and treat myself to an awesome full custom rear end like a Strange 60 or a Moser 12 bolt but just can’t quite justify the expense yet. The house will be paid off in a couple of years—maybe then🤔 After teaching at institute tonight, I called the wife before leaving church and asked her if there was anything she needed. She asked me to stop by and grab some milk. I pulled into the quick mart at the same time as a guy with a ‘69 Chevelle SS396 (blue with white stripes). It was very cool to have two 51 year old GM A-bodies there at the same time!
