My son asked the local scrapyard owner to give us a call when he gets any WH tractors. we have bought a few from him. The owner calls my son today and says a Wheelhorse just came in. Stop by in 1/2 hr and take a look. Well.... $150 later... Its an amazing score. Whoever scrapped it drained all the fluids and pulled the filters. I wish I had filters! It looks like it just needs a good going over. Tmw we’ll get it fired up. 420H with a pretty near perfect 48”deck and a 2 stage snowblower. I think we’re missing some parts for the blower though. If this thing runs and moves it’ll top the Massey Executive find from the same scrapyard. 😁 OH! And the best part is last year the carpenter at work gave me his binder from the 520h he had and sold. He had compiled everything you could get into a big binder. I think I have every bit of paper work for this tractor! Repair/service manuals and owners manual. 😁👍👍

Doing more work on the 856 after taking a long break. Got hood on started buffing. Slow work but the end looks good. (Buffing isn’t close to being done yet). Have the rims off being powder coated. Lots of parts coming in this week: belts, decals, buffing stuff, electrical items, and misc stuff.

I found a standout looking C-121 . i found it on FBmarketplace, but those guys had it blocked for replying to the owner. Ask price was only 220 and after i took the chance with screwing up my life on the computer, Facebook would not let me talk to the owner because it was too new. what FB wants is for you to hang out for a while and post. My buddy jay was corrupted by me to get into old Honda motorcycles, so I had him do the contact and used me as an additional phone number. The owner texted me last night with permission to call him. he got an offer to buy while i was enroute to look, and since i texted him i was on the road, he waited for me. It is a one owner, bought for a project with the second owner deciding that the project might take longer than hoped. it's an eight speed that is putting a fine mist of oil inside the hood, so at least a head gasket or possibly a ring job, but it runs and is all there with a 38"' RD deck in great shape. No piccs yet as we are picking it up later this week. Gave him the money and he gave me a bill of sale. Farmer to farmer is why we came to that agreement It came up in conversation that we are both farmers, and it does make a difference that we would rather sell to each other than having random ppl from town casing our places for gas tanks to steal from and stuff like that.. Anyway, Jay needs to get away from green/yellow.

You just made this old dogs day Mike. Thanks for sharing this amazing family photo. I can almost see the 875 smiling like the four kids enjoying the ride.

Probably ought to keep it away from Pullstart. He might use it as a work bench, maybe even a welding table.

A nice older couple stopped by and got out and looked, she said he was happy to stop and see something mechanical on display since all the car shows and everything was cancelled this year. She said it was the first he smiled in long time. Kinda makes you think how 8 simple little tractors made someones day

@AMC RULES...you are so talented. I can't stand it. Can't figure out if I want to steal that tractor, eat it, or just make out with it. Just beautiful. Hats off to you

Thank you so much! These things are so addicting. Truly a labor of Wheel-Horse love for me, and hopefully it is apparent in my work.

Decided to clean out and reorganize the back shop. Moved out all the rakes, shovels and misc lawn tools to access the 48'' dozer blade that I bought new in 1991. This blade was used for 10 years and then stored once I bought the 44'' 2 stage blower. Did not plan to do anything other than wash it but once I got it outside and with a beautiful day to paint I decided to touch it up a bit. Removed the original cutting edge which looks like I can flip it and use the other edge for some time. Decided to paint the front and the bottom of the back for now as I am just about done painting for this year. I did find a NOS cutting edge also that I bought with the blade but have not needed it yet. When Patti came home from work I wanted her to see what I had done, she laughed when she saw 6 tractors parked in there and I asked her which was her favorite out of the 520,420, 418,417,312 or the 1977 C- 120 with the WD 40 finish and guess which one she picked, the C-120 and I asked why ? She said she likes the old look of the paint. I told her I did also and hopefully you may see more of that look next Saturday.

Had the last couple of days off, so I decided it was a good time to clean up this 48" dozer blade. I don't have to tell you how much grinding and sanding it took to get this back down to bare metal. As you can see how rusted and neglected this thing is. So after hours of work, I am happy with the results of that labor. This is where it's at right now. Once the paint has a chance to cure and harden up, I'll be able to put it back together. Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend all.

In today’s world many of us are limited in the possibilities or ability to do many tasks because we don’t have the right power tools. It does not have to be so. Using one of the recently made specialty planes along with two other planes i am going to describe how to dress a rough wood board fairly easily and quickly without any power tools. It actually took a lot longer to post this than to dress the board. This board is only 12”x 32” but it works for any size board. You are not limited to a planers width. I have dressed boards this way in excess of 30”x 16 feet. A properly dressed board has to have no twist , bow, straight edges and be of consistent thickness. A purchased board already dressed most likely does not exhibit any of those qualities, the only thing it has going for it is that it has two clean faces and edges. First thing to do is to take any cupping from board ends. That is accomplished by planing two shallow rabbets on beard’s end using the special rabbet plane which by the way it is called a “ juntoura”. Next using two winding sticks placed on rabbets one sights the edges for parallel. Any deviation one marks the high spots and using the same plane, planes them down just enough on the two high edges which will be diagonal to each other. We now have a board with two uncuped straight edges also untwisted in relation to each other. Now we straighten the board along its length by connecting the two rabbets with the same plane. Long plane will ride over low spots taking out first high spots. We now have the entire area around perimeter of board perfect in all aspects. Now it’s time to remove center connecting all perfected areas in boards’ perimeter using a scrub plane across boards width. We now have a physically perfect face that just needs to be made smooth with a smooth plane this side is finished, now on to the other side, first jointing the edges with the long plane Using a making gage set for the desired board’s thickness one now marks the edge using the finished side as reference. One now planes the other side using the scrub plane across the board as before until reaching the scribed line and then again with the smooth plane. Board is now finished without using a single power tool. One thing that must also be done is to make sure both sides are done on same day or board will warp again due to the different exposure to moisture on each side.

I bought this sovereign off one of my buddies the other day. It was in rough shape but I'm gonna get it running right to mow my lawn. Oh and a possible restoration this winter? We will see. It sat in his yard for about 8 months with no front wheels. On top of that he claims it sat in the 1st owner's yard for 10 years. It runs but not well. I ordered a new carburetor for it. Hopefuly that sorts out the pops and bangs. But it has the electric lift which I am very excited about! (It had a huge mouse nest with 4 mice in it.)

Happy Labor Day, everyone! I hope all are well rested this weekend and enjoy the fruits of their labor for a change! We’re camping at the inlaw’s place (field) and it’s pouring rain for a bit! We need the rain too

A very nice display indeed. It is amazing how something simple like garden tractors can evoke a response that strong in a total stranger. However, in times like these it is the little things that can brighten a day or encourage someone else... Well done sir.👍🏻

The trans fluid, what was left, was clean. All the fluids were drained for the scrapyard. It looks like it was just used and then parked. The snowblower got a lot of use And has a bit of wear. There was grass in the tire tread and the blades are worn out but the rest is perfect. It was definitely garage kept. There’s no water or rust damage on anything. There is a film of oil and dust and dirt over everything. It’s gonna be interesting to see how well this runs when I get it going. As far as I’m concerned my son bought a solid 48” deck for $150 and got a free tractor and snowblower. Lol

In all my time servicing Kohler engines, a leaking carburetor has almost always been a float valve problem. When replacing a valve and seat, be sure that they are a matched pair. Also, you didn't mention that you replaced the rubber gasket and splash shield. An old, worn splash shield can sometimes keep the float from raising completely to the closed position.

I was busy using my cool new to me KW loader and going to the all Pontiac Car show with my family! Nice wrangle though Tom! I was enjoying reading the literature on that Robbie bucket especially the part about using it on “the roof with forks for construction”—that sounds like an OSHA approved use😂

Not all conduit lock nuts are created equally. The Big Box stores carry the cheap ones intended for EMT or NM fittings. Go to a good electrical suppl house and buy lock nuts for rigid conduit, they are much heavier.

Put a battery in it and all of the electronics are good. All the safeties work and she cranks over. No spark. Coil is bad. Got pulse from the module and 12v to the coil. Wires and grounds are good. Compression is good so far. Not too much crap under the cooling tins. What a PITA to work on this thing. Lol. Kohler singles are so much easier. Haha. Got a coil kit on the way. Hopefully we’ll have a verdict by weeks end.

The rain stopped so we thought it would be nice to make some progress on the shed. Stood up all the walls, got everything squared and bolted it in place. Doing the cladding now and then will concentrate on the roof. It seems a bit back to front but the cladding is here, whereas I don't have any roofing materials.

And you don't use a hook and wire. We usually have both on out knucklebooms, but you never lift the really heavy loads with the wire. This is the last little ship I was on that had a crane. We used it to lift cars on as there were no ramps at any of the ports. Also loaded everything else you could think of from cattle to building materials. They had to lengthen her as she was to small for the job as built. I was engineer, deckhand, ticket collector - never a moment to sit down during a working day. On the plus side she was berthed about one minutes walk from our house in Orkney.

I have watched Roy Underhill do this on his show and know how much satisfaction comes from doing things the way yesterday's skilled craftsmen did it. I have even attempted this technique with some more modern steel planes. However, after watching this process I went to the shop and hugged my Makita 6" Jointer, 12" Planer.

Back in action again, not really a tech engine fan but this one runs great first pull off she goes. Like @AMC RULES said these early square hoods are undervalued, the more I look at them more I really like them. Thanks too @johnnymag3 for the hood ornament and headlight cover or whatever it's called. Of course thanks again to @Vinylguy for the awesome decals, they fit perfect.

You can just look at the threads and tell it was a fight getting to this point. Thinking the end result was well worth the effort though.
