I added a couple more layers of black filler, I sacrificed a small piece of the vinyl underneath and pressed it in for the pattern, I think that's about as good as I can do. Best part that's it all done! Time to fire it up and get this one out of the shop!

Hey everyone so I took this as a trade with hope to flip the mower to fund other projects but due to the negligence of previous owners they let the deck to rotted that after sand blasting would not be worth rebuilding. So I have a dump cart that the frame broke. So why not put both together and make a powered dump cart. This should be plenty strong to do so. The engine is a kohler magnum mv16 it has an electric pto that ran the mower so I thought use a small hydraulic pump belt drive off the pto and a small lift cylinder to make it power dump. I also thought why not make a snow plow for the front with compilers. Wishful thinking would be a spreader on it to neat idea. I had posted a question about upsizing the tires so it will go from 13x6.5-6 turf to 15x6x6 snowblower for traction and load rating. The front casters are soild tires but small I may have to make them bigger but try it out first. Of course the toro will come down and wheel horse will be applied.

Well I picked up this little dump cart the other day and I thought I would marry it to the Lambert. I like how the angle of the front grill kind of matches the angle on the back of the cart. Had some of the paint left over that I used on the Lambert so today I got busy. I want to make a little drop for the hitch so it sits level. Maybe find a bigger tire and taller rim for it. I should have stopped with the pin stripe and not added the Summit Racing decals but oh well, they are on there now. I know what you are thinking, why a cart when I still havent got it to move yet. I said I have taken it as far as I can. Looking to pass it on to someone who can finish it. Needs belt guides made up. Perhaps change pulley and belts. Havent found the right person yet.

I always been interested in blacksmithing and many times can use it for items related to woodworking. I started dabbling into it recently. I have now ordered a propane forge that should be here soon. For an anvil so I don’t spend a small fortune on one I came up with this. A chunk of steel 1-1/2” x 8”x10”. Welded two flat tabs underneath and screwed it to a beam. Works great it’s absolutely solid and the large flat surface is ideal for the items I need to work on.

Got home from work yesterday and had to bring an extra horse back into the stall because of inclement weather. I don't trust the shed!!

OK, I will concede, the belt guard does tie in with the overall appearance of the tractor much better now that it's one solid color. Pretty pleased with how it looks mounted up. Thing has a pretty good shine going on there. Just gotta decide if I can live with the original model number decal, or not. Forgot that it has a slight blemish. Aaargh!

I mostly need a large flat surface but in a pinch I can use the small one I have in the wood shop. I am however thinking of adapting something like that to it.

Thank you. I thought the answer to your question would be an easy one but in reality it is not. At least, it is not easy to answer for the fear of sounding vain. The need to build them is not for their use nor for any physical type of compensation. I have built literally hundreds of planes and feel compelled to do so until I cannot physically do it. The need is my feeling of obligation to carry on a craft that is essentially dead. These are tools that are as old as the craft itself yet today many if not most in it do not use them nor do they know about them and their different functions. They have become obsolete to many due to machinery and therefor the lack of need for them. Unfortunately traditional woodworking without using power tools is essentially a craft that is essentially extinct for all intents and purposes. I am happy to say that it is not so here for at least one more generation and very likely one more after that. I give away many of them to people that appreciate them and care to use them or learn how to. These particular planes are unlikely what most have seen specially in this country. They are essentially rabbet planes but are specialized for a very specific task. Their specialty is for all the important steps in dressing rough boards by hand. These are only 22" long but I make them in many lengths up to 3 feet. They make taking the wind (twist) and any bow from a rough board a real easy and fairly quick task. Besides that they are also great to join a long board's edge as long as it is within their width 7/8".

Also, need to be aware of potential for flipping... I trailer my boat and utility trailer (front or back hitch) with the tongue wheel down and touching... I'm pretty much dead flat and only move them around the driveway, so braking isn't as much of an issue for me, but as @pullstart and @ebinmaine point out - it is an issue. These things do not really have "brakes" for any trailering beyond a small yard cart...

I don't have a way to show it or quote it or anything but I believe the Kohler manual says to use straight 30 DETERGENT oil above 32 degrees. There are those that say it's best to get oil for break in or flat tappet cam engines so it still has the appropriate amount of zinc phosphate in it. There are others that say since the spring pressures are fairly low in these engines it doesn't really make that much difference. I believe without question the most important thing to do is: CHANGE YOUR OIL at or more often than the appropriate interval

I’m sure it would hold 300 lbs, the question is can you steer and stop?

Well, I had fun with my replicating years of accumulated patina project. So RIP, the before... just became the new after here today.

sad news indeed, but stay strong and treat this as a god sent opportunity to make things better. The job is just a job, its what you do not who you are. I thought I would never be able to replace being a cop for 30 years when I retired. But I've never been busier, never worked physically as hard and never been happier. Luck is for gamblers, faith is all you need, in yourself and your abilities and in God to provide a way. Stay strong and safe Mick

I am sorry to hear the bad news. Don't lose hope. Something else will come along I am sure. I know that it is not easy and a scary prospect specially at your age with a family. I went through a similar situation due to the events of 911. I lost my livelihood of all of my life up to that point along with many friends. Life as I knew it was over. It started again, and the new life gave me the opportunity to be home all the time as my wife became more dependent on me due to Parkinson's and I was able to be there for my youngest son through his fights with addiction. Hang in there.

With a little modification, I made a $5.02 gas cap from the local Parts Plus work with a gravity feed or fuel pump fed engine. Here’s how:

Been away from woodworking for a few weeks. It was killing me so I am back at it. Decided to make more planes to get back into the groove.

Nice video. I'm kind of surprised that you didn't include some shop safety tips....

The hitch will take it, I'm not so sure about the lift cable. For moving trailers I think you would be better off with a receiver hitch like the ones that Lowell sells. https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/hitches-liftkits.html#!/Heavy-Duty-Removable-Receiver-Hitch-with-axle-mounting-hardware/p/84960080/category=23548047

I see a WH axle up front. A seat over the engine with steering wheel and steering gear from there to axle.

Thank you. The tool holders are actually “ pinch dogs”. I have lots of them. Many such as the large ones almost never used for their intended purpose so this way they take a new useful life.

My cousin used to race Sprint Cars, and he and my uncle worked with a few of the teams in the World of Outlaws Series. As their bumper stickers always read "Dirt is for racing, asphalt is for getting there"

I borrowed Putt Putt’s gas cap for Poppy because that was leaking so bad. I often see “what gas cap will fit my round hood?” and I often try to respond that a C10 gas cap will work with a little modification. Well, now I did a little video to show it. This works for round hoods, 953/1054’s, among probably many other tractors or brands.

Just added a 1972 Commando 800 kohler 8 hp to the herd it's a little rough around the edges motor runs transmission stuck in gear. Looks like a project for the winter.

Its going to be my fire wood cart I plan to put a hydraulic pump with pulley to the electric pto that turned the mower deck on and off and have a lift hoist. So torque is better then high speed anyway it will be a cool project. It's not a wheel horse but it's still red and had a mixing with wheel horse so it's ok lol its 1994 with kohler 16 hp motor I thought if worst of it repower the old onans in the 416 but boy to much to flip that motor

Post pictures of both engines from the front left side so we can see what ignition systems they have. If they are not the same we can walk you through the changes.

Thank you everyone. Feels good to be at it again. I just don’t know what to do with myself any other way. Just like an engine each has to be individually tuned. Although identical each has its own temperament.

Gave it a few taps with a SFH tonite and it slid right off! Tapped the hoobie threads right back to 5/16 and all is right in the world again. I was so happy I polished my shaft! Off to the sand blaster with the whole kit & kabodle now... then prime then paint. ... damn you Dan I think I got tunnel vision! Whoops... no wait... the dreaded rock shaft next..... any tips other than stock up on acetylene?

Well it has happened like it has to a lot of other folks. Been here almost 17 years. I will be out of a job by no later then november 2nd. Maybe before then. I am taking this very hard. This is my very first factory job i have did everything under the sun here skills wise. God always has a plan for us all and I know there is a reason for this but i just don't see the light at the end of the tunnel yet. I have worked for what was Courier of Kendallville. Then in 2015 we got bought out by rr donnelley then it turned into lsc communications. We were one of the top dogs in the book printing industry. I have love the place. put in a lot of hours. I was 23 when i started now i will be 40 in February. I now have health issues and i cant be lifting alot everyday. So Im praying that things work out and i can find a new job. I did put in an app at our digital plant just down the street but no word yet if i will get it. I am the only income so this is a real blow to my family. Im hoping i can hold onto my Horses and other equipment i have and own. Good thing is God id good and there are other jobs around my area. I have had alot of friends and family reach out to me. I have also had vendors reach out to me. I guess being a good person pays off from time to time. So saying all this I will be needing a lot of prayers that i can make good choices for me and my family. https://www.kpcnews.com/newssun/article_198dd094-cc19-5727-8694-f661610e26c0.html

What no one notice the louvers in the hood!?!? That right there is screaming stick a big vertical Briggs in it, some pullies for speed and lets go lawn mower racing! Don't worry about the mismatched tires they'll get burned off.... Your killing me here Richard!

A person could pull that off. You would need to use a thick washer, say 1/4" thick on the bolt to cover the hole in the fly wheel.

Anvils can be pricey unless you stumble across one at a garage sale. Going to need a rounded piece for shaping tho. Making loops and hooks. A foot of railroad track makes a nice anvil too. Blacksmith shops at tractor shows are always a draw for me.

Not planning on giving up - I'd like to see that old motor running again! I put my old snowblower's engine on the 500 because the replacement one that was on it wouldn't allow me to use the deck. That motor is going on my wood chipper - happens to be the exact same engine that was on it. Hoping by next year the 500 will have it's original engine back on it and running!

Beautiful work Cas, We see a lot of these tools on flea markets etc. Im not sure if they are still used a lot but they certainly used to be before routers and spindle moulders etc became available. Plus modern materials like MDF and chip board for work tops made them obsolete. Carry on making them my friend, your skills are valued and will be missed greatly when they are gone. I always think how we would manage without power tools, the answer always comes back "Not very well at all" Mick

I'm certain (as a fellow Workhorse owner myself) that they indeed have the 1" axles AND certain that they have a 4 pinion differential (instead of the eight). As said above, STILL stronger than anything you can buy at a big box store today!!! My Workhorse is the one that got me started in all this (I inherited it from my grandfather after he passed away)

First time I saw a dirt track race I was about seven or eight years old. The New York State Fairgrounds had a one mile dirt track and I snuck away from my parents and went to the track to watch the race during the fair. I climbed up the guard rail and sat right on top of it. First time the cars came by I had a face full of dirt and an ear to ear smile!
