9 pointsI often forget to take pictures of things that I see all the time. Over the weekend my friend Scott had his truck out for a cruise & I remembered to get a picture to share with you. It is a '49 Ford, sporting a flat head V8 with Offenhauser heads & some other mild engine work. Other than the radial tires, all modifications to this truck are pre 1960 mods. The body is just the way he found it. When it was a work truck the hood must have been used to do math work, some of these penciled on figures are still visible.

7 pointsYep, I think they're gone! Can't see them... dents from my house.

6 pointsI stepped out my back door yesterday and saw this guy hanging there. These things can jump! This is a small one as l have seen bigger around the house.

6 pointsMy wife and I just purchased this new next week a 5th wheel camper. My question to those that may also camp, if you have a generator on your unit what are you using and does it get the job done? I will be running a couple in unit A/C's at times, so our unit requires a 50 amp service.

6 pointsSunday was mafia it down to a pile of parts! ... Actually busted down pretty decent considering the amount of brown welding. Only have a half of can of PB blaster in so far. Rock shaft and steering column are gonna give me a run for the money tho and of course a hooby doo broke off on one foot rest. Piston stuck in the bore but will deal with that. BTW Dan there was still ants in it! Have no clues as what this was all about!

6 pointsThanks for the welcome, and the tips. This is it and i do have full restoration plans in the future with paint and every thing, and making a sleeve hitch for a plow and a cultivator.

4 pointsThis is something I've wanted to do for a very long time and finally took the plunge. I have always been fascinated by vintage garden tractors. I'm sure it's the memories of my grandfather doing every conceivable outdoors chore with his wheel horse (unfortunately it was sold decades ago with all implements). Regardless, I love restoring antique machines and tools and now I have something I can restore and enjoy for years to come. I'm now officially the second owner of this garden tractor. Other than the faded paint it was well maintained and cared for. It was tucked away under a tarp when I arrived, no fluid stains under the mower and no mouse nests in it lol. Removed the tarp, pushed it out of the garage, pulled the choke, turned the key then she fired right up and came to life like she was just turned off. The engine block was cold and had cobwebs on the vent screen so it definitely was not started before I arrived. No smoking, no knocking, idles and runs smooth. The gear driven rear discharge deck is definitely cool and a first for me. This is going to be a cool project.

4 pointsOk... I will send the guy over to you who crashed into my tractors. I am sure he can give your tractors some character like he did mine !

4 pointsNothing on the horses per say but did pick these up today. Complete K532, complete K301, complete K181 and a little bitty 1948 Briggs and Stratton “N” engine. Not a bad haul.

4 pointsHere is the manual you want to down load and study. The 1st pages list the horses and what transmissions they have, and the different sections describe the different transmissions. It's all there. If you have any questions after looking at this, please put them back in here. If I was going to type all you want to know, it would be this manual. Go to our Manuals Section on the Main Page...find Transmissions / Manual...it is all there.

4 pointsEarlier this year i had my 16 at the dealership for service and while waiting I wandered the new truck lot.Salesman comes over and sees me looking at the Rapters lined up.He says hello and tells me that a Rapter is a great truck and i should take one for a drive.I look at him and ask what the hell am I going to do with a truck like this? These trucks cost 10 times more than my 78 F150 4wd and I stlll have it.They bring my truck out and I pointed it out to the salesman. That 3/4 ton truck has a 10,000lb GVW and will tow 10,00lbs all day long. It gets 14.5 mpg on the highway and has been timed at 15.2 seconds at 97mph in the quarter. Some muscle cars in the day would be hard pressed to keep up with this 6400 lb empty,385 horse 4wd.

4 pointsThat is the very rare WH NOS Part No. WR.0001.spare.lug. It was only provided on a few early models until it was determined that the owners were burning their fingers off removing it from hot engines, only to discover they had the same wrench in their tool box anyways...

4 pointsTrucks cost so much because people gotta have it and pay for it. I started working at a dealership right out of college in 79. A fully loaded Olds Toronado was about 12 grand. Most of the trucks on the lot were the average Custom Deluxe 10 model with the rubber mats, cheesy seats. Some didn't have a radio. There was maybe 1 or 2 Silverado's on the lot and that was it. Basic truck was maybe 6 grand. When GM redesigned trucks in 88 a fully loaded one was maybe 20. But then EVERYONE HAD TO HAVE A TRUCK! GM saw that as well as every other make. Gas prices would slow it down but as soon as gas would come down, truck sales would go up. Now everybody has to have a diesel. 75% of those buyers don't need a diesel. They just want to put a tuner kit in and blow black smoke all over the place. Trucks cost so much because of demand. And with lease deals a lot of people can make the payments. Never mind you're married to payments for the rest of your life. New truck every 3 years and constant payments may work for some. I paid $22,000 for my 2013 GMC last year. Had to finance 8 thousand of it and paid it off in 10 months. I like not having payments.

4 pointsThe classic big blocks of the muscle care era were something the average guy could work on with a socket set, dwell meter, and timing light. With these things after you drop huge bucks for the truck you will need a lot more for the electronic diagnostic equipment and other special tools, Not for me.

4 pointsBig Red here are some pics of my 854 over the last couple years. I have a horn, lights and it is a fun tractor to use. I used my 1962 Wheel Horse BD-4262 Snowplow on this tractor one winter. Make sure to get a manual online on Red Square if you do not have one as that is a very important thing to have when owning one of these tractors. A parts list and operating information is included in it.

4 pointsSharin cuz i just really like this pic. was raised a Chevy man; got the white one in '11...havent looked back yet, tho ill always love the Bowtie... White one (White Knight)is a 99 (comming up on 200,000mi this month); black one an '01 (Always bet on Black). Not 'vintage", maybe...but old enough, these days... Not a very old pic; taken last yr. Month b4 this, there was also a red '98 in the lineup. The black one... Just after i had the suspension redone, n b4 the time n bodywork my Dad put into it. 70,000 or so miles on the clock. Pic was actually taken on my birthday. Happy Day, for me, for lotsa reasons. Lotta changes since then. Hopefully, i get it back, soon😪

4 pointsDecided not to do any painting to the hood, side covers or rear fender I kinda like the worn look of the hood decals for a little character. I did use Meguiar's # 7 show car glaze to clean them up a bit. Rear fender got the artist brush to cover the chips with some Regal red, doesn't match but this tractor will be used but not abused and it will be parked in the garage and not the living room. Starting to come together. Also painted both footrests and saved the existing rubber pads for the 418-A as I had a pair of NOS footrest pads I bought a number of years ago from the WH dealer while they were still available.

3 pointsHi all, i bought this 1961 701 in fall of 2018 and restored it. I completed it in fall of 2019 and I wanted to show some pictures of before during and after I got it done. I did my research and tried to make this tractor as close to original as possible. The few exceptions are tires, wiring and the steering support. Not a perfect tractor but sure is nice enough for me. all stainless hardware Rustolium stops rust Primer Rustolium Regal Red enamel paint powder coated wheels and seat Glenn Pettit Reproduction dash

3 pointsApparently I can't be trusted with money, especially my own, The tractor runs decent, three point hitch and it has an after market auxiliary hydraulics kit. Just in front of the main transmission another gear case with high and low range then direct. Love the quick connect three point.
-
3 pointsI will say yes. Looked at the attachment list for 3 different 416-H's of the 10 models listed and the 36" RD was available as an option. Garry

3 pointsThis also should be in every horseman's back pocket. It gives the transmission usage for every year. @stevasaurus may have some kind of better spread sheet. He also knows which ones are LS and so forth. Also Lowell's document on what kit of his is needed for what tranny helps a bit too. TRANSMISSIONGUIDE.pdf Wheel_Horse_Products_Master_Model_List.pdf

3 pointsStick bugs are pretty dang cool, and you don't get to see them all too often because they are obviously really good at camouflage when in nature. However that camo is, not surprisingly, ineffective while it is on the side of your house.
-
3 pointsVery good ?? Kev ... we aint gonna find out till I pull her apart and look from the inside. I figure on leaving it for a conversation piece and character. I though maybe Dan put it there so he wouldn't misplace his favorite wrench again!

3 pointsJim the muffler on the 854 is the Shusher muffler. This was the Muffler Wheel Horse originally used on the 1974 B-80s when sold from factory. I have two of them. One on my 854 and one on my 702. Toro still sells this ( not sure of part number). And you can find in their parts catalog for about $ 400. These mufflers clamp on - they are not threaded. They do have a quieter sound. I also have a Nelson muffler that is very similar to the Shusher.

3 pointsClick on the poor picture for a list of the models produced. The ipl will show everything that is required. Good luck Garry

3 pointsTwo or three years ago now one of my co-workers started shopping for a new Chevy truck. He's the kind of guy that will keep something 15 or 20 years. He's in his early to mid fifties and fully expected to retire using the truck he was about to buy. He wanted a three-quarter ton, 4WD, no options except the air conditioning and maybe a radio that worked. Vinyl or rubber floor. Read that last sentence carefully. That was the tough part. Ended up spending somewhere near $38,000 and then another six on the plow.

3 pointsMan, if this isn't how I feel in a nutshell. On one hand I applaud the fact that these manufacturers are pushing boundaries and trying out new things. I kind of feel like we are in an automotive renaissance right now, akin to 60's and the muscle car movement. Right now between the offroad movement (Ram TRX, Raptor, Bronco, etc.) and the modern muscle (Camaro, Challenger, Mustang), there are a lot of really cool things going on in the automotive world. BUT, and this is a big but, like you said how much is too much? The other part of this is that these vehicles tend to be extremely niche and a majority of the people won't ever use them to the full extent of what they are designed for. I love the new Ford Bronco, but if I owned one I can virtually guarantee that I wouldn't take it offroad much, and for sure nowhere near to the limits it is capable of. And the problem with all of this is, they are pushing these as the mainline options, and prices are skyrocketing because of it. Gone are the days of an affordable base model option I feel like, especially with trucks. I mean there are places in this country where it is cheaper to buy a house than it is a truck (I know that is stretching it a little bit, but it's also not far off). Looking right now at Ford specifically, their least expensive option is the new Ranger with a base price of $24,410, full size F-150 $28,745 and if you want to look at a performance truck like the Raptor, that's $53,455 base. So all that being said, I love what they are doing but it does make you think.

3 pointsSpent the weekend cutting tall wet thick grass. The tall grass in the background was the worst, haven't been able to cut that field for 4-5 weeks due to weather and mom issues. Would have preferred the bush hog, but it's out of commission and I haven't had time to work on it. I really hated to do that to this nice tractor, but it did the job! Gave it a good cleaning when I was finally done.

3 pointsI don't have the brand loyalty that I have had in the past. Because I am not rooting for any particular make or bottle they are all very interesting in their own right. Cars. Trucks. Even farm tractors. The horsepower war... it's getting kind of interesting to say the least. All of which sort of begs the question. How much is too much? Of course the little kid in me says that there's no such thing as too much. That said though, there's only a certain amount of power that you can get to stick to the ground given a million different variables of course. I read an article a few weeks ago in which the writer got his hands on 2 Porsches of similar body style. one of them had maybe 385 horse. The other one closer to 700. It goes without saying that the more powerful one went quicker and faster in a straight line but overall road performance was nearly identical. I don't really follow automobiles very much as I have in the past so I only found out about these high horsepower trucks within the last few weeks. So in a truck... I wonder what the actual practical usable limit is?
