Not in the market for any tractors right now...but stumbled across this one and it was a good deal. Late 80’s 312/8 with a Magnum. Came with a 42” SD with the reinforcement bar and a 37” SD with a complete bagger system. No real need for it so it’ll get some love and most likely go up for sale. I like to have 4-5 WH’s here and this one makes 6 so one of em has to go. Yes! It’s soaking wet in the pics , just gave it a bath.

Last time used my 416-H it felt like the seat was falling off when on a incline. I parked it since then, had a to of other high priority projects to take care of. Today I pulled it to the front of the house and 3 of the 4 bolts holding the axle to the frame we’re missing and the 4th almost fallen out. All fixed now. That tractor have been flawless since I bought it, never thought to check.

Had a similar experience with my little JD dozer at work recently. Was backing down an incline while regrading the paddock at the farm when the front two seat bolts broke, allowing the seat to lean back in it's mount, which kept my foot from fully depressing the decelerator. For a minute, trying to make that thing stop, without crashing through the fence and hopping the ditch out into the road...was suddenly becoming quite the eye opener! WT...HECK is going on! Not actually what I said, but close!

Big Oly's transmission input seal took a dump yesterday. Pulley was stuck. I have close to a $1000 worth of puller equipment and nothing worked. Napa had a $30 dollar puller that I managed to squee hoy on and got it off. Seal was well toasted!

This C-160 is next in line to be restored. It has become one of my favorites. I would just leave it alone but someone has already tried to paint it with the decals and stuff left on tractor 😲

Most county fairs have been canceled this year, our county was no exception. Starting last night through today the carnival set up their food vendor trailers at the fair grounds to offer a drive through service for carnival food. I loaded up on corn dogs, fresh cut French fries, and deep fried cheese curds. Topped that off with a funnel cake & a blue raspberry snow cone. I can almost hear my arteries hardening as I write this.

You came here to ask if a Wheel Horse, the finest piece of machinery ever built, is better than a green thing! what answer did you expect. Let me think about this: GET A HORSE OF COURSE!

I have an older Troy-Bilt rototiller, a Junior. That thing is built like a tank. I just went through it and gave it a little paint. I dont have any experience with a walk behind of that size. I just know that if I need a 60 inch deck I dont want to be walking !

Almost forgot, the Pillsbury Dough boy. Complete with dough hook and it works, most likely runs quieter with the dough hook under load, my meat slicer has a friend.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Trina says, sorry Norman. The restoration department has been on vacation for the last few weeks. She has three out of four sides of the house painted. Hoping to return to building the big boy tractor when she's done.

“Daddy, Jada won’t play with me, can I watch a movie?” ”Want to work on your tractor?” And here we are! We need to pull the flywheel and clean the points.

Terpstra’s is the Wheel Horse dealer my dad used for years! Located in Griffith Indiana. The RJ58 is located in front of the office and in 1940’s and 50’s Terpstras was a Feed and Seed Store. Farm related seeds, fertilizer, feed for animals and even chicks were sold on the concrete floor (under the current tile) in the same spot as the RJ! That RJ has a number 5 on the label on the frame. I never got to ask if that was original but I do Know Terpstra’s made millions off of Wheel Horse Sales and too this day still sell Toro and lots of other outdoor power equipment! The photo is from a parade at Florida Flywheelers in 2010 of “Morts Wild Horses” with a horse pulling four horses in a metal frame rig.

Can you post a pic of the wire and coil? The wire should look like this. I can make you a set

Great feedback! I’m not interested in getting into a higher level of complexity. And, I don’t want the potential problems of the Onan engine. Someone suggested a C-160. It sounds like this is my best route. I have the Koehler 341 engine on my SK-486. Great engine! Wouldn’t mind having another. Thanks!!!!

Side Shot Saturday: All of mine are tucked away in the shed or garage except this ratty parts machine (312/8)...and an unintentional hood collection

Most older Cub Cadets use the Ross steering box and aren't to bad to dissect... Now to the original question I'm totally biased here having owned a 520H since new, even with the 9 pin Molex being probably the biggest electrical gremlin and the Nikki carbs surge the most aggravating of mechanical issues the aftermarket has started to help with more common replacement parts (Voltage regulator and fuel pumps) over the price Cummins/Onan wants... So yeah get yourself a 520H... But on the flip side the older 318 and 420 JD would be a better choice than the 445 IMHO.
  38. 4 points
IMHO - the 520H. That is a very special tractor and while Onan can have valve seat issues, it’s not anywhere the normal as there are ton of those engines in Wheelhorse tractors still going strong. But to me the best reason to go 520H over the JD is just parts and implement interchangeability.

Here's my biased thinking. i recently picked up a JD210 at the scrap yard for the engine, Ross Steering Column and to part out. it was certainly a heavy built machine. The JD 445 is even heavier. Getting the Ross Steering Column meant everything had to come apart,. Even with the assistance of a grinder cut-off wheel it was a pain. i could have had my C-160 apart with wrenches and back together in the time it took me to get that JD apart. So as EB said .

520 hands down. Take care of the Onan. I always had kohler sand Briggs. After buying a 520 and 520hc, I kept them because I like the Onan so much. Plus, you got the best engineered machine. I used to mow a 15 acre cemetery with all Simplicity, Allis-Chalmers, and Wheel Horse. The cemetery board leased a new deere for us to use instead of our own equipment. I wouldn’t have traded that new green one for my most worn out orange or red machine. I wasn’t impressed the way they held up.Too many wear items and light duty components compared to what I was used to. Could never keep a deere deck leading edge from curling under. The green one disappeared and old red and orange continued taking the abuse. The cemetery was really rough due to a Case 580 running around digging graves.

Put the nut back on so it is flush with the end of the crank, you take 2 pry bars on the back of the flywheel and have her take a hammer and tap the nut/crank

Here are my two cars, the 57 I’ve had since I was 18,I’m now old enough to retire. Lol The 69 was purchased in 93 and finally redone in 2017. It never bothered me to tear cars apart. but small engines always seemed scary to me.But I have learned a lot since finding this site.

Many of you know that Trina is a highly trained Martial Artist. She's a 2nd degree Black Belt. Has taught classes. Been trained in (9?) Different hand weapons over the years. Dozens, maybe well over a hundred trophies in a bunch of categories. Also has a level of physical strength matched only by her level of mental strength. VERY high. Like she needed another weapon.... FIRST time Trina has ever handled a firearm of any kind. Hand-built AR-15. She took three shots from 60 yards after doing target practice at 104 yards. ALL THREE of the 60-yard shots were BULL'S-EYES. The puff in the background is a small container of tannerite. @nylyon @Sparky @T-Mo @pullstart @Stormin @Mickwhitt @JCM @Stepney @Herder @PeacemakerJack @AMC RULES @WHX24 @Achto @wallfish Fell free to call in others who are into firearms, target or sharpshooting...

When I buy tractors I pretty much know ahead of time if I am going to buy it, most sellers are surprised when I don't want to hear it run or drive it. I had an instance where a tractor was pulled out of shed after sitting for decades and the guy is like let's see if we can fire it up as he whips out starting fluid. No way I restore them anyway no need to waste time and break something. Same goes for selling, you got very very lucky today he didn't get hurt on your property or hurt or damaged someone else, you could have had an insurance nightmare or he could have sued you. I don't let anyone test drive equipment I am selling, I will clearly demonstrate if they would like to see it in use. Needless to say I wouldnt let anymore test drives
