Saw this on Clist for $40. The seller said he bought it new and it had always been garage kept. Rarely used it, so it needed to go...worked for me. It cost me lunch to have a family member pick it up about 4 hours from me and pony express it to the shed at the farm. I made it to the farm and retrieved it. I plan to keep it original and shine it up. The WH decal on the front is original and in great shape. Those white rims in the picture also look to be original paint with a healthy dose of grease. I'm amazed at how black the tires are with just wiping the dust off them. The back lip has a slight bend, but really not bad. In time I have an idea of how to press press it straight with some pipe and clamps. It has the front WH decal and I can see on the tongue where a metal model tag had probable been, no serial $. There also is a spot on the side where some other decal had been. The inside bottom of the cart is rusted, but very little pitting. I'm thinking about scrubbing the rust area with an SOS pad, then some polishing compound. I may clear coat the inside of the tub to keep it clean for hauling the grand kids around (Nannie said no rusty clothes). As you can see in the last picture, the grand kids (and I) enjoyed putting a couple of miles on it today. I guess there's really no way of putting an age on this! Some of you may remember I previously picked up this "Lifted WH Tub Cart" about 2 years ago. So far I've kept it original. But it always felt a little tipsy when I hauled the kids around. Now I'll have to decide its fate!

Hi Peter, also thanks that you realized this. Independently that i ask @Pullstart to drain all fluids for Transport, that is my common Way to go and even i adviced here once at least, but i don‘t just talk about, i live it. Allway’s Begin with a complete set of Fluidchange and lubrication and you know what‘s in. Learned that Lesson 37years ago from my Grandfather when i bought my first Motocycle. He give me that Advice and show‘s me how to do. Grandpa has a friend that worked in a company now known as Liqui Moly. That is my bind to that Brand The System „lube, grease and change“ worked 37years for me with best results. It can not complete prevent anything goes wrong, but it is allway‘s a good Way to start, same as regular Maintenance..

I finished it last night! I think the funniest part, was the hitchhiker bit. I’m so glad that I finally received a copy and read it, there is so much rich history of the company, so much drive from Cecil along with Elmer and his entire family and organization!

I started out today by removing the right rear wheel to look for the slow leak I've got. Gave the wheel a bath with Gunk then did a soap bubble test on both bead seats - no leak. Tread inspection - nothing obvious there, either. I'm going to go on the theory that the leak will eventually collect enough crud to get plugged - it does seem to be slower now than it was earlier this year. As long as the wheel was off, I thought it would be an ideal time to convert to lug nuts and studs. While I was doing that, I discovered that the hub had angular play on the axle. Well, the set screw needed to be removed to install one of the studs, so that got corrected when the set screw was re-installed. Of course, the left rear needed the same treatment. While I was in there, I noticed that both axles had about 1/8" end play. Is this normal for a 14-8 no name? With everything back together, it was down to the lake house to mow that lawn, then a little bit of cart work moving some boxes around. Got to add a picture of the interesting toy the guy on the other end of the lake has. It is a Piper Super Cub.

Hauled it home yesterday but didn't get a chance to do much until this evening. The machine itself seems pretty complete except for the missing hitch. I did an engine oil change before starting it up. The stuff that came out was BLACK! For good news, the transmission oil on the dipstick was clean. Engine starts and deck spins up nice and smooth. Now the bad news: 1. Engine doesn't want to run at less than half throttle. 2. The exhaust manifold and muffler seems hotter than it should be, but I've no experience to back that up. 3. Clutch pedal doesn't move more than an inch. The belt never fully stops. I had to cringe when then seller ground the gears during the demo. I've got the manual and plan on adjusting the carb and clutch. Hopefully that'll resolve the above because I'm not good for much more than that!

Super excited to have joined the WH owners club. Have a new to me 1997 Toro/WH 314h that came with a 42" deck and leaf catcher. I just picked up a single stage short chute snow thrower that needs a tiny bit of TLC but should be very handy here in MI. I apologize for the probably offensive addition of the Bolens wheel weights but since I had the rusty pair it seemed a no brainer to clean them up and paint them red to go with the ag tires. I can't say enough how impressed I am with the quality of materials and more importantly how well thought out this tractor is. Thx in advance for the community support. Bill

Did any of you folks down here in the Va/NC/SC/TN area get to take a ride on the 5.1 quake yesterday morning? It was my first- was up at the weekend place/Wheel Horse stables, 50 miles from the epicenter, still in bed and half asleep. Bed started shaking and almost felt like the house was moving side to side, and there was a rumble like a distant locomotive or thunder. Thought I was dreaming and sat up, nope, still shaking and rumbling. this went on for exactly 10 seconds, not California style dishes flying/fridge falling over violence, but certainly a 'what the hell is that?' attention getter. Luckily no damage found, but closer to the epicenter, some roads cracked and heaved, lost a water main, and stuff bounced off the shelves at the local Food Lion. They took a good ride up there. Considering what 2020 has thrown at us all so far, I kinda figured to look out the window and see Godzilla burning down the neighbors house or something. Did anyone have 'earthquake' on their 2020 bingo card for August?

I remember that one. Hit during the World Series. 1989. I remember it because I made Chevrolet Master Technician that year and a leather Chevy jacket was one of the prizes. It was coming from a shop in Frisco and I remember my boss saying my jacket is buried somewhere on the West coast. @DougC here's my Louie Chevrolet statue from that year.

What a story, Scott! I’ve always wanted to feel an earthquake. Call me crazy, but it’s a bucket list item for me! A few years back (5?) I was finishing a basement and had a big load of drywall in my truck at the Home Depot loading zone. Right then, the starter quit. I was on the ground under the loaded truck for about 20 minutes banging on the starter, wiggling wires, whatnot while my young teenage brother in-law was trying the key. We got it fired up and we’re on our way back to the job site. Got there, the lady was talking about all this shaking and rumbling and low and behold MI had an earthquake! If that dang truck would have resisted the starting effort just moments more, I could have been laying on the blacktop to feel the whole thing!

Seen this for sale on my local CL. dont know much about snowmobiles. Says its restored and trophy winner. Anyone have one? Front end looks like a old bumper car. 1972 Wheelhorse Safari 399w

Nice. Now you can do a proper front end alignment as well. Some people laugh at that but they really do steer nicer with just a bit of toe in.

Got my daughters tierods done finally! Got a guy to mill them for me and I bought 4 new ends off ebay for $14. They work perfect. I had my daughter put a coat of primer and 1 coat so far of Rust-Oleom international red.

I can say there was absolutely NO bogging whatsoever- if the plow went deep six, it would come to a stop and the tires would just keep going. Definitely going to need to revamp the belt for more pulley wrap and tension, as I had to get my foot under the clutch pedal and pull up on it to keep from slipping and squealing. The tone of the engine is much deeper than the other machines with the exact same Kemp muffler, and strangely is much smoother and quieter, without the 'pop', even with all the compression. Vibration at idle actually seems maybe a bit worse than stock, but is MUCH smoother at rpm. The most impressive thing I've noticed is fuel economy! I ran her all weekend, pulling the wagon for yard work, hauled 4 loads of rocks from the neighbors place, plowed and disc'd the garden, took multiple 'heat soak' yard rides, and took a nice trail ride at the end of it all. I started with just under a tank full, and it has a good 1/4 tank left...and I had to swap to the early, smaller metal tank in order to fit the starter/generator style setup in the chassis. Between the fuel economy and the smoother, less 'poppy' exhaust note, I think I may have accidentally built a pretty efficient engine.

@oilwell1415 just gassed up with the standard 87 thats in the jug. So far its burning nice and has been pretty 'quiet' at 20 degrees timing, but kinda planning on refilling the jugs with 90+ from here on out. @PeacemakerJack oh, there was absolutely zero quality haha. I made a couple adjustments to no avail- it pretty much chose its own depth, anywhere from 3-4" to burying itself, half in and out of the trench as the plow pretty much steered the machine. The end results look like it was done at 1am on a Saturday if you know what I mean. Maybe worse! It was indeed a fun test, but pretty sure if I tried that crap in line at a plow day, the plow dog lynch mob would get the ropes out and drag ME behind it

It is hard to see from the camera angle how it is actually handling the turning of the soil. To me, much faster than 4mph is too fast for quality plowing (the dirt isn’t rolled over—it is slung across the field). however, as stated above, the purpose of the video is to showcase the power of the new engine build in the tractor. Sure seems like it has power in spades. Well done on the K321–looks like you were having fun in the dirt!

Today i just do few orders and a bit of Reworking. Firstly i changed the Lift pin of the Mowerdeck with a chain. the reason i did this is an i like to have it more accurate in the Swing while mowing on slopes. the pendle will give it more possibillity to act, even it don‘t scratches on the Beltcover anymore. Than i searched for a better suited Spring for the Governor. Found in my spares a little smaller but stiffer one, that acts dimensios better. A much smoother throttle response was the result without oscillating rpm‘s. After that i fixed the Hoodchain again. stiffned the Oildrain pipe with an mount, that holds the Clip to keep it save even on shaking or vibrations.

Just returned from a short 42 mile round trip this morning saving ( I hope ) another WH. This appears to be a 1987 418-A with a KT17 series 2 transplant with the Kohler 18 Magnum decal on the chrome air cleaner. I was not sure under what heading to show this and had a notification from @c-series don regarding the above 520/ kwik-way photo and figured Side shot Sunday was as good a place as any, thanks Don. More pics after a cleanup to see what I got myself into, again. How do I stop buying ? but you guys aren't the right ones to ask for a logical answer. She needs some help for sure this one.

That makes sense. The old belt was pretty loose. Not sure if it was from wear or if the belt was maybe the wrong size to begin with. It was flapping around pretty good. Lots of cracks and the top layer is delaminating. I rolled the dice with it for two winters, but am not feeling lucky anymore. Better to change it out in warm weather than when I have a driveway full of snow.

Just thinking, those new bolts might be the culprit. I believe the bottom 2 bolts are blind holes, but the top 2 go through. (I always thought all 4 were blind holes, until I did my Brother's #5091. The top 2 were open). You can pull out those top 2 bolts (1 at a time) and put some Teflon tape on and see if that is your leak. @Lagersolut

Looks like you picked up a good looking machine. I'm going to guess that a carb rebuild will solve the won't run at less than 1/2 throttle issue. Probably crud in the idle circuit, maybe a worn throttle shaft bore. Both are easy fixes. Both of these would cause the engine to run lean, which will result in hotter exhaust. My 14-8 no name has not been idling well lately. I tweaked the idle screw a little richer today and appear to have solved that problem. As for the clutch issue, check for proper belt routing and size. There are usually belt guides inside the belt guard that support the belt when the clutch is depressed. If those guides are missing or out of adjustment, the belt is not fully released from the drive pulley, causing the gears to grind when shifting. Dig through the reference section here and you should be able to find a manual and proper belt sizes for your new toy.

These were retagged SnoFlite sleds. In their day they weren't much.. the 399 Kohler twin was in essence a tractor engine, loud, and only rated around 22hp. I have not owned a WH sled but I have driven a few as well as the original yellow SnoFlite.. Wide track. Oddball poly track, oddball drivers. Not like some other old sleds and you could just convert to another track easy if/when something failed.. She'd be a show and occasional run piece IHMO. They make the steering of an early 60's SkiDoo look realllly good.. the old song "Give Me 40 Acres" really does apply. Unique piece to own.. but as a vintage sled buff, I'd be both nervous and reluctant to drive another..

I used what was left of a 85/140 bottle , the rest was 90w . The level was a hair over the full mark drained a little out today . Depending what the opinions were here I was going to just loosen the bolts ( frame plate ) enough to get a dab of silicone over it . Brake, input and axle seals are all dry - Starting to think the trans gasket didn't take for whatever reason . Leak is somewhere in the front it's wet around the front and frame mounting plate - why I was wondering if the detent hole could be the culprit . I'm not going to tear it all apart anymore this year for a trans gasket over few drops of oil - just keep my eye on it and run it . I did put 4 new grade 8 bolts to mount trans to frame .
