Wanted to just share my pride and joy of my collection. My late dad got it for me as a kid and I took many years to get it done. 2015 to be exact LOL. It was beat up badly and had a bracket on it with a 2 piece cast rear end. It took a few years and we found the correct rear end. I worked really hard to get it to this condition. It sits most of the time under 3 blankets in my shed. I love this old gal. It is a 1958 rj58 with the veritable height added(not by me). It was that way when my late dad bought it. But he helped me get the right rear end other things. The only thing left i need to do is get the correct rear end pulley. The one on it is way to small. I got the side belt cover from old man Kirkwood who is now passed away. What a good guy he was. I also had lots of help from Joe papke,Dave fike(fike sandblast shop Laotto Indiana), Jim Eberly,Craig Bottjer(my late dad),and the most important person my wonderful wife Stacey. She is the one who kept seeing the thing torn apart on shelves and said you better get it done or you never will. But what Im proud of most is at least my late dad got to see me show it off before he died. He was very proud I could tell he didnt have to say anything to me. He was so proud at the show he actually told some Amish dad to keep his kids off of it. Unless he wanted to buy it. I was away enjoying the show. My 6'3 dad was the bouncer for the old gal. LOL I have a stupid amount of money and time in this old gal. Worth every penny specially when I see folks light up when they see it. It was a total gut job motor and transmission. I have alot of paperwork with it. Here is a video of me having it running on saturday. 2nd pull and she fired right up. I took my grand daughter for a ride.

This is a must show for Dan @Achto his family and the whole mafia crew so we were estatic when we found out the show must go on damn the covids. I figure the Good Lords gonna call me home what better way than a show. Might be better than a tractor accident anyway. Dan took second in 3000 lb with the 30.. Lots more to come as I get near some real internet.

Weather was nice but very hot and humid. My pos HF genny busted down twice but we got her going. How the heck did we camp in an enclosed with no AC?!?! Lots of cold beverages I guess! Some noteworthy pieces..most of the pics was just flying by on the 1055 so forgive the quality....

The nite life, and the food never fails to entertain... our mutual buddy Pat in the hat... the antics and wisecracks just never stop! Did I mention the mafia theme was Christmas in July? Shoulda got a pic of the tree with the beer can oranments!

Jack Mentioned the operational displays which there is everything here! Sawmills, grist mill, blacksmiths, rock crushing you name it. There is a complete mini down town and most of the buildings are 100+ years old and moved here. Post Office, bank, barber shop, harness shop, church ... lots to see & lots of antiques. Sadly most were closed due to covids but the bigger ones were open. Only other show that I have ever been to that has this many permanent displays is Pioneer Power in MN. Some more here Dan....

Like Jim & Josh said, it was definitely a great weekend despite the extreme heat. I have a few pic's to share from my phone right now but will share more from my camera later. Jim, I for got to get a picture of the heart attack loaf when it came out of the smoker. I did how ever remember to get a picture of the pork butt after it spent all day in the smoker. The Grist Mill, This picture was taken from the steel girder bridge that was moved to the show grounds after being removed from use on Hwy22 in Symco. Some threshing getting done with the use of a Case steam traction engine. A line up of most of the garden tractors that participated in the GT cruise around the grounds on Sat. evening. More pictures to yet come.

Did I mention the food?!?!? Dan made this concoction he called a a heart attack loaf. It's basically pork, pork & more pork! Messed up the pellet grill somethin fierce but worth the clean up! Hope your a bacon lover! We also had the annual Mafia potluck supper where everyone brings a dish to pass and eat in the Mafia tent. Dan made his plow day pulled pork!

It was so refreshing to be able to go to a show that felt “normal” compared to all the craziness that we have faced over the last several months. I decided to take a pair of Big Wheels as Jim noted above by bringing Dad’s newly painted 953 and nun super-C. It was around 92 degrees for a high and was pretty sticky. However, it was so fun to take the kids around and look at the operational Grist Mill, Saw Mill, and various other demonstrations. Lots of cool stock and modified tractors on the grounds. There weren’t a ton of GT’s but there were some. I always enjoy the custom built scaled down tractors! The pull is one of the highlights of the weekend and I’m sure Dan will chime in about that eventually. Even the weigh in scale area is cool and vintage! These Oliver’s are sweet sounding machines when working hard! My Great Grandpa had bought one of these Case 400 Super Diesels brand new. They are relatively rare and it was neat to see this one fully restored and running great! As mentioned above, Dan took second in his class and I was there was he was coming back to the campsite with his trophy so I snagged a pic with him and his custom cup from @19richie66 All in all a fun day! It was great to hang with Cindy and the gang by the campers for awhile in the afternoon. It was hot and she offered the kids freeze pops and let them cool their feet in the kiddie pool! Judge told me as we left, “thanks for taking us dad, this was a great day!”

Introducing the latest Frankenstein / custom Wheel Horse -- my 1975 C-180. It's not complete but the idea is to dedicate this as a loader machine: it is my most stout mid-70s C-series. The K361 on it needs some attention; blown head gasket. Does anyone have familiarity with doing a head gasket on this OHV engine? I am going to do a breather in the valve cover and close off the factory breather to encourage the oil mist to get to the top.

And I ain't talkin the drag @squonk usually gets up in! Northern Tool ..little over 200 clams & had a free shipping coupon. Hooked it up to the plow mule for a test run. Works pretty good but won't dig up weeds and will clog up with field trash. Wished I woulda had it when my workin gal was here @pullstart Way more effective than a bed spring. Will work good on a fresh plowed field tho. Thoughts are to have a few bros over for a heart attack loaf and some plow tuning then use it and plant some deer food. @Achto @PeacemakerJack

Found this 416-8 on Craigs list at $200.00 The seller says or best offer.I respond with $150.00.He accepts and informs me he has 2 other running WHs for sale.I ask what they are and he says a 312-8 with a Kohler M12 and a Work Horse wih a Kohler M !2.He says both run but they need tires and a battery.Heard that before but he wants $100.00 for the pair.We come to an agreement and he delivers all 3 for $270.00.Just what I needed more ugly.By the time he drops off the goods I am running out of daylight so more pictures will come Tuesdaty Two of the machine have Brinley hitches and he dropped an additional 42SD in the yard as well.

Decent for its age, AMC 360 CID, locking hubs, 727 auto with manual shift transfers case was offered and I'm thinking on it.

That drag will work better if you stand on it and have someone drive the tractor at WOT in 3rd.

Thanks for the complement. I threw them together, slapped some paint on them, & had Terry hook me up with some decals.

Sold the 416-8 today and the C-161 a couple of weeks ago. Leaves me " Horseless " again. Sad to see them go, both were really nice tractors. Each ran as good as they looked. I enjoyed fixing both of them up. Look forward to finding my next project now that I have a space in the garage. I still have the Lambert, Simplicity, and the Homemade Tractor. Was hoping someone here would pick up the Homemade. Like to see it go to someone who appreciates it for what it is.

Just an observation, but if you towed a couple plastic slide-a-boggans with @pullstart and the girls riding along with some rebar in each hand... might get the same effect for free...and some great video...

A meet and greet would be awesome! I love going to that show, i will definitely try to make it up there this year. Lets hope they still hold it and everyone is healthy. I do need to get a slightly bigger trailer that can haul my tractors to shows. But question becomes what shows do i go to and what shows do i not go to? You see... i also have a soft spot for um... other classics... see pic. 😁😁

That I did not know. What were they there for?? This girl I think was donated to the club. If I remember right it was sitting in the same spot as last year?? Thoughts were Dan to get it running for the club??

Awesome stuff, guys! I was whooped from the trip to Puerto Rico and decided to ride along up north to float 12 miles of the coldest river in Michigan, The Pine. That was much more relaxing than driving up to northern WI again... but it looks like I missed out nonetheless! @PeacemakerJack, The Black Cherry is a sweet paint scheme! Congrats @Achto on the trophy! Thanks for the pics @WHX24!

I bought my first house about two years ago, it's only a half acre, so I found a push mower being thrown out and used that. My mom found a Poulan Pro 21hp for $100 and gave it to me as a housewarming present later in the year. Once I got it working properly it was fun and did the job, but I would always see my across the street neighbor on his old red tractor (never heard of WH before). It reminded me of my old grandfather's cub I used all the time as a kid. I started itching for that old style tractor knowing how well they built machines back then. About 2 months ago my neighbor tells me his tractor died while his father was using it and it doesn't run anymore, so his dad bought him a zero turn to replace it. A week later he says "I'm never going to get this thing running again, but I think you could. Do you want it?" Without hesitation I said yes as I had internally been drooling over this tractor (raider 10) for the greater part of 2 years. After cleaning the top of the engine and doing a valve adjustment I got it to turn over. After running two tanks of fuel with seafoam it ran pretty well. I mowed the lawn with it and it did a better job than the Poulan and a Deere I had just been given (also broken), so I decided to make a change. I love the simplicity, durability, and it seems like there are attachments for everything. I sold the Deere, am selling the Poulan, bought another WH (C-120), and now have 2 snow plows, snow thrower, roto tiller, moldbaord plow, cultivator, and yard cart to wreak all sorts of havoc on my property. I put in a 35' underground downspout yesterday using the C-120 and cultivator and looking for more projects just to get more seat time!

Thanks for the pic's looks like a good show. My Oliver 2-44 Loader Backhoe is essentially that Oliver 550 in the picture background, with a heavier front end and power assist steering, painted industrial yellow of course.

This is going to be a slow project probably but I figured I'd start a build thread. I bought a pulling horse and it came with this c-81 for extra parts. Also a kid's puller for my little girl. Homely looking thing missing front tires, and engine. Steering was rusted seized along with pedals and linkages. Extra hood(I don't know what it fits) and back fenders came from the grass next to where it had began to rot into guys yard. Who knows what else its missing but rear end oil is clean and it rolls. This is the wife's tractor. She originally wanted any tractor I could modify and turn into a mini Ford 8N. She has since fell in love with the horse and wants it built as is.

Not sure what it came off of but with that cable connector to operate the throttle my guess would be a very old chainsaw.

I have a very good friend who is a realtor. She calls me from time to time to see if I want things that some of her clients dont want to move. She called the other day to see if I wanted an old chest and some old bottles and a sewing machine." Why wouldnt I ? " I replied. I went to the house and loaded them into my truck and brought them home. The bottles were old quart glass milk bottles and some old glass soda bottles. The bottles as far as I can tell are from the fifties. I washed them all and added them to my antique ice boxes and cooler collections. The trunk needed some help. Was pretty dirty. I washed it down, then took some steel wool to it. Cleaned off the rust, steeled wooled the wood. I took some paint and painted the stamped metal. As far as I could tell I think it was gold. Took some gold paint and painted just the stamped metal. let it dry then took steel wool again and rubbed it all to age it. Then took some boiled linseed oil and rubbed all the wood with it. Then wax polished it. Came out so nice I am giving it to my mother for her 80th Birthday tomorrow. The sewing machine is a Singer 404 Slant Needle Machine. It is a very nice machine in a cabinet. I know we once talked sewing machines on here so I know I am not the only one who has interest in them. I cleaned the gears and ordered some bobbins for it. Here are some pics of the chest. The fire hydraunt was one of my dump finds years ago, the long base removed with the hydraunt affixed to a metal plate. I gave this to a friend who has it placed infront of his house which is miles away from any fire protection service. Got a chuckle today when Russ told me this afternoon just how handy the fire hydraunt had become when his insurance agent asked him how far the house was from a hydraunt.

Painted up the Boss 9’2” V plow today, the last step before placing it up for sale. Rylee got into the rest of the paint and spruced up the chicken coop a tad. Our sunflowers are towering too, something w e didn’t quite expect to get so tall!

There wasn't... C-160 was the most powerful C-series in 1975. The 18HP K361 engine was on certain Powerking, Allis Chalmers, Bolens and other machines in the late 70s but Wheel Horse never adopted it. Wanted to shoehorn one into a roller and see if I could get it working well. Crossing fingers I can make it work, avoiding the problems others have had.

OK folks, bear with me here for a little reminiscing... The year was 1968, I'm 12 years old and in love with my Dad's '61 Suburban (truly why I still love these darn Horses today!) Cutting the grass on our 1/3 acre when the engine stops...with emphasis. No slow down, no smoke...just running fine one second and not the next. I'm sorry to say this today (and then, for that matter) that I had NO idea why it would do such a thing. So I push it back to the garage and for the first time in my life think about checking the oil in the engine. If I recall correctly, the dipstick in that Kohler was like an NPT pipe plug with the metal rod on the inside end of it...so it required a Crescent wrench to check. Did that and....what? Where's the oil?? No oil. Well, Dad's not too happy about this, considering I just shot our 8-year old Wheel Horse in the gut; I'm feeling really bad too. I loved that machine; actually my first love for any machine. So my Dad goes out and buys a Snapper riding mower. Can you believe that?....no character whatsoever and it doesn't even look like a tractor. Fortunately, he did not trade in the Suburban, so I decided to fix it myself one day after school. Unbolt the engine, bring it down into the basement, lay out some newspapers on the floor and start taking it apart. (I guess in hindsight the newspaper was rather superfluous since there was no oil to leak out.) This was my first foray into how internal combustion engines work, no shop manual or anything so detailed and unnecessary, and it was the birth into my now-lifelong love affair with gasoline engines. Anyway, about a week later and my Dad has bought some needed gaskets plus a few other parts my supreme knowledge indicated needing replacement, I put it back together since most parts really looked pretty good, put oil in it and...three pulls on the recoil and she STARTS! Hallulah! We kept that mower for a year or so, until my Dad wanted it out of the garage (remember, that darn Snapper now ruled our big 1/3 acre estate) True story....but here's the epilogue... Since that time, I've been a professional mechanical engineer at GE Aviation for 42 years (jet engines), owned 59 automobiles, 4 boats, countless RC aircraft, 5 Cessna airplanes, plus my current airplane I built myself over the course of 7 years. My personal mantra is "If it doesn't burn gasoline, I'm probably not interested". I now own two Wheel Horses and one '78 Cub Cadet (sorry), but I honestly trace my love for engines and machinery back to that one little 5 HP Kohler engine that made me think I was the Master Mechanic of lawn tractors. What I would give to have her back today. True story...first time ever written down. I figured you guys would understand.

I have some experience with majic brand, never through an airless though. Just El cheapo $50 regular gun. I painted a tractor and a truck. Used generic paint thinner and then majic clear over the top. Not so great. Worked decent on tractor, honestly if it was my truck I had painted I'd redo it. But my buddy was happy with it. I learned some things and the last project I did I used majic again. But with the matching harderner and thinner and primer. Directions to a tee. No clear coat Very impressed, considering I'm not a paint guy. I also brushed the back wheels and the paint was very forgiving in case you need to touch up or miss a piece.

had a '25th birthday party' for the 704 in 1989 put a birthday hat on it and placed it prominently in the yard near the patio still recall the summer or two before this - cutting grass and looked down and saw grass through a rust hole in the top of the mower deck ... ouch ... joked I would have cleaned the mower deck more often if I would have known this tractor would live this long ! searched and searched for a mower deck shell or complete mower deck - was unable to find one ... eventually did find a mower deck around 10 years later ... (amusing story) also searched for a plow for years - but no luck I did eventually find a similar short frame tractor with a plow - brought it home and parked it in the garage and it has not been touched since then this was pre-internet / pre social media / pre Wheel Horse club days - finding Wheel Horse parts was much more of a challenge - especially mower decks because of the demand

around 1974 or so we got a Wheel Horse 704 was helping my father with a side job one weekend - small addition to a house - and he pointed to a tractor next to a garage and said it was to be included as payment I was especially excited because I was impressed with the Wheel Horse tractors in our neighborhood - and it was much better the small Huffy lawn tractor we had Used that 704 to cut grass at my parents house until I moved out in the early 80's also did a fair amount of off-road / trail riding with that 704 ... pulled a car ... used it to move heavy material ... step stool / ladder ... took the 704 when I moved from my parents house (because I knew it would die a cruel death at the hands of my father lol) and cut grass with it until the late 90's acquired a 312-8 in the late 90's and then later a 416-H - but still have the 704 (sitting in the garage) hope to get that 704 running again when I have more time

I have a Bronco 14 with the same ANNOYING rattle issue...from exactly the same source... Flat Idler bouncing around. My fix was easy....just hook up a tension spring like this to stop the rattle. Your Charger has all the same hardware, EXCEPT for the engagement lever, so I don't know if you could arrange some sort of spring to minimize the rattle, or not.
