It was time to straighten up the garage today. So they all waited to get back in out of the heat.

I have noticed as well... Could be as @Pollack Pete says... I think he's right... or... Maybe some thing far more sinister -- our horses are getting wifi somehow and are succumbing to the average attention span of today's social media addicted / educated society... work 10 minutes - check out FB, Instagram, Snapchat or RS...work 10 minutes...check out... repeat...

Been working on this back side of my house for a while now. Started on it around Christmas then tore up my finger and had to have stitches. So it was halted until I healed. Well then along came Covid and put the brakes on completely. So I got all my materials delivered on Friday and had to work through all the heat to get started. I will end up putting green tin over it all.

My neighbour gave me this Briggs engine this morning, from the looks it's military surplus. It's a generator, Scotty told me it will light up a bulb but only dim, asked if the bulb was 120 volts and he re-plied that it was so i suspect the required bulb would be 12 volt marine type. Given the time I'll remove the cover to see how the engineers have wired for external power. in the meantime the unit has some neat features. OSHA approved cold weather start, yea we got that. Air filter minder. Fail proof rope start.

I have a C160 that had this problem for at least two years. Sometimes it would run 45 minutes, the next time 15. Sometimes the choke would help so I knew it was fuel related. Rebuilt carb and cleaned a couple times. Cleaned tank and replaced shutoff with new screen type. Tried fuel pump off of working tractor. Replaced filter and hose more than once. Still acted like it was running out of gas. So I got clear(purplish tint) fuel line so I could see what was going on. It was running out of gas even with the the gas cap off. I put an electric fuel pump on. Problem solved. And this fuel line is supposed to be good for 100% ethonal...

What a Saturday it was !!! Hot, Humid, down right sticky A while back, I rescued a 12 HP K301S from the scrap pile. It was sitting dormant for 25 years or so, until a gentleman passed away. Three years after his passing, a nice lady posted some stuff in a local ad stating that she needs to get back to normal, and was ready to begin her life again. He was a hoarder in every right....BUY, never Sell. I met this fine lady at her home and she began showing me all of the Wheel Horse things he had collected. Most things I already had, but why not buy another soild 48" Mower deck...sure I will take it !! We left the garage area after she said she had a shed out back with her wheel Horse tractor she mows with. It was a well worn, 310-8 with a 42" deck.Solid as all get out, but needed a good cleaning...oh well I looked around and found an engine in the corner on a milk crate...it was complete. It had fuel line, PTO,and Chrome air filter, and nice stainless Nelson muffler. I asked her if she wanted that...She said what is it ? and what is it for ?. I told her it was a Kohler engine, for a number of smaller Garden tractors. It was at that time I had to ask, do you want it? She said that all of the stuff was in her way and that she needed room for her tractor. Everything you see, other than the tractor is going to the dump this Saturday. I asked her if she knew where it came from??? Nope... Have you ever seen your husband messing with it?? Nope.. How much do you want for it I asked...Is 20.00 too much she asked ? NOPE.. I used a hand cart to get it to my truck, then her son and I slid it up a 2X10 ramp into the Chevy along with my 220.00 48" Mower deck . So yesterday, what a Saturday it was I drained the oil, set the points, gapped the plug....the rest of the story.........I gambled and......well.....just click the MOV file and see...... MVI_0212.MOV

Back on topic. There's two 35's on the farm I go to. One's a 35X. One has the yard scraper on the back. Used every day in the milking parlour holding yard. T'other a loader bucket on the front.

Thank you very much. It will set me back about $250, but then I'll have everything I need to run the tiller and make it lift up and down from the seat with the lever. And thank you to everyone else for the warm greeting. I'm not quite so grumpy at the moment.

I hate to criticise the hard of thinking, but this kid did well to manage ringing three 9s when he set fire to the place. Had not got a clue and when I said don't use the toilet he couldn't understand why... because, nincompoop, the poo will end up on the garden path!

You've found the friendliest most helpful site for you and your wheelhorse. I've just got older horses with Kohlers. Someone with experience with something closer to yours will be along shortly. A few thought tho: You might start it with the gas cap cracked loose and see if that makes a difference. Sometimes the vent in the cap gets plugged and the horse will run until the fuel pump creates a vacumn in the tank and engine dies. This relieves vacumn and they start again. If you electrical connections look rust, disconnect one at a time, clean it, coat with silicone grease and reinstall. Be sure and clean and tighten the grounds to the engine and chassis. Also check the fuse block and its connectors. so0metimes just doing a good maintence on all the electrical connections eliminates the gremlins.

What are those tires and wheels!? 😮 Chose that color for mine. Can't wait to see them mounted on a tractor. Today I have been working on spraying simple green on the parts I need to get a 704 roller going with an 8 speed so I can wash them tommorow.

She looks good on the truck. Trailer was loaded with about 9 cubic feet of stone. Around 8-900 pounds give or take. Pulled up a steep grade to the backyard in 2-hi no problem put about 3 hours on it today.

We don't have a garden this year, but did stop by the local produce stand and picked up some pickling cucumbers. I'm posting here 'cause it has to do with garden produce. We ran a batch of sweet pickle relish today. Got 8 1/2 pints. They are currently on the cooling rack going 'pop' as they cool. Used the cast iron grinder of extreme age to grind them. I think it dates back to the early 1900's.

Pulled the Super C into the AIR CONDITIONED shop for some love. Decided the wiring was POed and not up to my standards. Cut it all out and start from scratch. Got a switch pig tail and start from there. Sides wiring is about the only dang thing I am good at!

I have a 63 Corvair, Monza 900 Spyder Turbo 4 speed. Been parked since '68. It belonged to the mother of the guy I bought it from. She was a school teacher and bought it new. After Unsafe at Any Speed came out in '65, she rarely drove it and finally parked it for good in '68. It has just under 50k miles on it. The turbo has been robbed off of it, and I really haven't done much to it at all since I brought it home. Obviously needs a full resto. It was the first car I bought with my own money. This was in 2006; I was 9 y/o at the time. I was walking around at a swap meet a few rows over from where we set up every year and I had $300 in my pocket. I saw the car for $275, offered $150 and got it for $200. Paid the man and then went and told my dad LOL.

I hear that! I think somebody needs to start another Corvair thread here soon (there's already two that I know of). I nominate @squonk!

Before I met my wife, her mother had a Corvair. One evening she forget to set the brake. Next morning it's up against a tree. back bumper is bent and the oil filter housing is cracked. My mother had a 79 Monza. She worked 2 jobs and got home like at 2 in the morning. I get up in the AM and here's the car sitting crossways in the middle of the street. She forgot to put it in park and take the keys out! Off topic? it's almost 100 out. we need to do something in front of the AC!

Balancing on Kohler engines is done on the crankshaft counter weights or thru balance gears. All flywheels are independantly balanced. Hope this helps.

My wife and I had a '65 Corvair with that same transmission (smoothest automatic I ever drove). She used to work night shift, came home one morning as I was having my first cup of coffee, parked the 'Vair in the driveway as usual, came inside, we both heard a little noise and looked outside to see the car backed across the road stopped against a large clump of bushes. That property now has a nice house on it, if that happened now we'd be winching a Corvair out of the creek at the bottom. Good times! We keep getting off topic here, don't we?

We have a new addition to the herd today! Another Massey 35 has joined the gang, mostly so we have a spare one and for towing a trailer on busy days. Such lovely little machines and so simple. Our main one has just had a lot of work done and is looking very smart with it's shiny new parts.

OK @tunahead72 When I was looking for an old car to putz around with I saw an ad for a 67 Corvair. This was 1990 so there wasn't much internet sites to use so I bought a swap sheet and found the ad. it was like an hour away. dude wanted $100. I take my B-I-L with me and find the car. Outside isn't horrible interior is mint. Open the engine lid and there is a crapload of empty oil bottles in there. I start it up to drive it around the parking lot. My B-I-L decides to try the heater and starts grabbing the knob. I yell NOOOOO but it's too late. The inside of the car fills up with oil smoke! When we get the car home I counted like 42 empty bottles in the engine bay. Had the 110 HP "Turbo-Air" with Powerglide and 2 carbs. I had to keep a hammer under the seat to beat on the LH carb every once and a while for flooding.

I just took my 16 horse to my machinist which is about 25 minutes away from here. I had the block bored out to 30 over he's pressing in new valve guides and reaming them out to fit the valves and also grind the valve seats. All this for 70 bucks cash

Okay.... after a hiatus, I’ve been able to return to our cottage where the C- 195 spent the winter, spring, and half of summer. Who’d a thunk it? When last I saw it, the motor was locked up, and the intake a food pantry for various rodents. I cleaned it out, and “winterized it” with a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF in each spark plug hole. Two weeks ago, I took a breaker bar and began “bumping” the flywheel in each direction. I began to gain on it until I could move it 3/4 of a turn in each direction. I poured some Kroil in each cylinder and let it sit for a day. A few bumps in the right direction broke it free. I can now easily rotate it by hand. I gave the carb and intake a sonic bath. The carb bowl contained what felt like sand. ( It came to me w/o an air filter, and missing the air cleaner cover.) I drained the oil and put a new oil filter on it. Oil level was full, no water, no rainbows, and no evidence of grit or metal. I dragged a magnet through it to be sure. Rather than reinstalling the carb and intake, I decided to start the next phase by trying to get it to just turn over. Wellll..... the wiring is a nightmare. All safety switches are bypassed. There are cut coiled and capped wires, including one onto the ammeter,as well as splices I don’t understand. To complicate matters further, the original engine was swapped out two owners ago, and a Koehler magnum 18 installed, with a magneto ignition. I want to redo all the wiring. I’ve ordered the 103991 ignition switch. The current 😉 switch has limited continuity, and none with start post. There is also evidence of small scorch marks in the center, and one side. The key turns, but won’t come out. I found some wiring diagrams here, for early 80’s Horses, but they are for points. Suggestions gratefully received.

The pushrod tubes leaked. I replaced them with viton seals and didn't use a drop after that. Automatics needed another gear. At 60 I think it was turning about 3500 RPM. Thing would get up and go!

My first car was a 61 Corvair Monza. My cousin had a 63 and boy did we have fun with those cars. Mine a 3spd and his a 4spd. There wasn't a lick of difference between the two in a race as he had to shift one more time. We slid those cars every way but out and never rolled one. The one like you had had much better suspension and was a lot nicer looking. in my opinion. Nader had a chip on his shoulder and was out to make a name for himself.

Nice quiet Sunday, bit of cricket on the wireless. Then the poorly mower came in for an examination. Turns out they don't run on water! Someone put water in the fuel tank, I suspect her ex boyfriend who still has access to the house and has a warped sense of humour. Drained, cleaned, new fuel, runs like a good un. Back to the 🏏 cricket. Until sane woman rang, can you pop down and look at my sons house, he's had a little accident with the barbecue. .... managed to destroy the soil pipes on both his and his neighbours house, guttering, bins, fences, etc etc. Can you do anything tonight? Yep, I can go listen to the end of the days play 🏏

Richmondred01 has a wiring harness for a 312-8. It might be for a K series equipped tractor. Might be worth buying as it would make the swap easier. Bill

I had a Vega in college. I'd buy a case of "Quaker City" oil at the grocery store @.49cents a qt. Drive 100 miles to college and the oil light would come on. Dump a couple of qts. in for the return trip every weekend. Replaced the filter during the summer months I had a 67 Corvair. No park with the automatic Powerglide trans so you had to use the E brake. Or find a tree or building.

Before it got too hot to work in the horse barn today, I replaced the lift cable in the 68 Commando 8. It's already 90 degrees and it's only 11am. Now I'm going to take it easy for the rest of the day. Going to be another warm week so I'm gonna cool it today.

Also a lot of engine noise/smoking. Lets face it fellas. These things aren't going to last forever. I think there's going to be a demand for low hour used engines in the future. And with a lot of machine shops either closing or not doing small engines, it's going to get worse.

I picked up a different pulley for the crank. Ordered a couple of belts off the internet, waiting for them to be shipped.

You will need a new ignition switch with an "I" terminal and an external (finned) voltage regulator. The small regulator on the Magnum air shroud relies on the air flow for cooling. Unless you can hack a similiar hole in the K shroud you will have to get and mount an older large regulator somewhere.

Hot muggy day here. Hooked the cart up and used the horse for tool carrying duty. Had to move saw horses, and the usual variety of tools to repair and prepare dock sections for stain down to the lake house.

Belts don't stretch. The sides wear giving the illusion that the belt got longer because they sit deeper in the pulleys. Measure the outside of the belt to get the length. it is probably 1/2" wide or it used to be.

Today's repurpose project... Eldest daughter has a flock of 9 budgies that live in small cage when not roaming about her room. She needed a bigger cage so they can have a bit more room during lockdown hours. This morning a free wardrobe showed up in Edinburgh, so we jumped in the van and did a quick three hour drive to bring it home. Popped out the door centres and replaced them with welded wire, she now has a cage about four times bigger. Making it more interesting for the budgies is now her project, I have a thousand other things to do!

Removed the deck for the first time with the attach-a-matic. What a great system had if off myself in 2 minutes after watching a quick youtube video on it although i could have figured it out. Didn't know it was this easy! Time to hook up the chinese (john deere) dump cart and move 4 yards of stone

Ahh the good ol days... I once had a 79 Camaro with a very well worn V8. It would oil foul one of the plugs about every 1100 miles. And drank oil. I didn't change the oil ... Ever. It used more than the 5 qts back when the interval was 3000 miles to change. I did change out the filter then though... For good measure.
