13 pointsToday we built a new attachment so I could do the hedge, worked quite well and saved having to set the ladder up endlessly on uneven ground. If anybody wants the detailed construction drawings let me know - no welding skills required

13 pointsIn my book theres nothing more American, Apple Pie, Pickup Truck, "John Wayne" or baseball than the 1974 / 1975 C160-8... I present an amateur restored one I bought recently that I will call "Miss America" Happy Fourth Everyone in spite of this giant mess Tony

13 pointsA couple of fun “Horse” things in the works... Judge and Zach helped haul trimmed branches to the brush pile after momma declared that she was sick of having to dodge branches while hanging her clothes on the line. Thanks @Achto for the super cool “gear” hitch pin—we used it to attach the trailer to “Rusty”! Zach was loving the “hard work” of tossing the branches around. Then it was into the shop to work on momma’s Big RED... We need to get to the bottom of why the engine runs in the top section of the green, just shy of the red on the temp gauge all the time. We’ve owned this tractor for five years and so we also are doing an all around maintenance/tune up. Here Zach is removing the thermostat housing. I love these guys to be as hands on as possible and do much of the work themselves! In other news...dad finished the refurbish on Clyde (his 953) and got it into the stable with the old Iron Horse (875)!!! A shout out to @Vinylguy for excellent work once again and getting dad his decals in such a timely fashion. It was fun to be able to give them to him as a Father’s Day present on the day!!! Thanks

8 pointsI have heard many of you speak of “Barn Finds”. I always thought to myself how great it would be if someday I was as fortunate to find a old tractor hid away in a barn somewhere. Well it finally happened to me with this 1977 12hp Wheel Horse that sat in a barn in southern Virginia for the past 12 years. There are too many mice nests to count as you can see but it’s all original and I couldn’t beat the asking price. The original owner passed away many years ago and the tractor sat unused in his barn. His daughter finally decided to part with it. I feel very fortunate to have gotten it.

8 pointsI had great fun today! After messing about with the hedge I volunteered the wheelhorse to help the Kubota muck out the pig pens. Marie dragged the straw and pig poo out into the lane with the Kubota and I pushed it outside to be loaded into the trailer. Traction was an issue with the big pile early on, before the video was taken. The wheels would spin, but it never felt like there was an amount that couldn't be pushed if traction could be found. I have added no weight at all yet to this machine, but even when the wheels spin up you could usually take a run at it and get some fairly large chunks moving. I got into the pens as well but the blade kept riding up on top of the hay so went back to pushing instead. We managed to halve the time it normally takes for the job, and the little horse was impressive in its versatility today 😁 That's my last bit of fun, back to work for two weeks in the morning.

7 pointsAs most of you know I make seats. Particularly 1054/953 c160/gt14 And lawn rangers. I'm retiring from them this year. I've made my last c160 seats and I posted in the FOR SALE I posted when I first started making them that the c160 was very challenging and that it was a work of love for these great tractors and the guys that make up Redsquare. But my health says I'm ready to lay it down. I've always tried to make the very best I could. I never scrimp on materials and the quality was as high as I could afford without compromise. The c160 was a beautiful style but I had to invest a lot to make it. I'm not complaining I'm proud to probably be the only one that has ever made a reproduction of this seat. I will continue to make the lawn ranger and the 1054/953 until October this year. Thanks to everyone that purchased from me and if you were not satisfied with my work pm me and I'll make it right.Thank you all

7 pointsNothing bad about OCD Johnny... usually means things are done right Put the go fast pulleys on Cindy's 702 and @Racinbob 's calcs were spot on! This thing goes! Karen (my GPS) said 8 - 10 MPH. No idea on engine rpm ... who cares I was flying! Bad news lug bolts on left side loose and I KNOW I torqued them to the max specs of 7/16 bolt. May try some loctite or switch to studs? Same thing happened at a show once.

6 pointsNow that there are only two of us I decided to convert the Cargo trailer into a mini toy hauler to head to PA for the BS , as that did not happen I slowed down a bit on the conversion with just minor details to finish. I feel this is perfect for us and can also fit 2 WH's and strapped down to all the E Trac I installed. @pullstart may be able to squeeze in a few more ? I have included a before and after pictures, hope to try it out soon. This is good for two but Eric may have to sleep in the tent ? Plenty of used Cargo trailers out there for sale @ebinmaine get Trina inside one of those and let her imagination run wild, I know she can do it . Good luck in your search for comfortable camping day's ahead.

5 pointsSo. Turnsout all that was a problem with replacing my starter was a fitment issue...and as my small engine mechanic explained, i couldnta fixed it on my own with my tools/knowledge. I add that last bit to say it's possible this tractor had a flaw from the factory where the starter mounts to the block. He explained even the old starter mighta been fine had he ground on the mounting flange on that one. I have no pics of this as the work is done n im gettin it back today; perhaps ill edit this post later. Says it runs like a champ; you cant even here the starter kick in. I like hearing that😊 Now bout the pics i do have. When he picked it up last Wed, he stated that he couldnt get to it till this Mon, n hed be unloading it next to the other 'antique'...also a WH. I of course asked if i could come take a look. Wouldnt you know...its prolly the one id like to have most, my 'holy grail' WH. I Knew what it was second i saw those buggered up taillights, lol. It was also gettin a starter/solenoid fix, lol. I of course passed my name n number along, lol; you never know. Any input on value, im all ears, even just to gain the knowledge. Y'all have a great day😊

5 pointsI like your OCD on the parts layout Plunger. Makes assembly go quicker.

5 pointsEB I have had a few pop ups. They were great for what I needed, just some weekend camping trips. What I didnt like about them was you cant store much in them when they arnt popped up. Sure you can store your plates , silverware, some pots and pans in them when they are closed, but no room for stuff like coolers, tackle boxes, some firewood if you wanted to bring some. I always brought a canoe with me so I had all that gear. All that stuff you have to pack into what ever your towing the trailer with. I always thought that if I had a travel trailer I could store stuff inside even in the off seasons, you know keep it all together. Other then that the pop ups suited my needs. Heres a few pics, the green one was a 1976 Starcraft. Was in fantastic shape for its age. In fact I didnt realize how great it was until after I sold it and was in the market to purchase another one. The blue one was a 1988 Coleman. I used to bring them over to my mothers house when my sister would visit from Boston. She has 5 kids and the boys would all sleep in the camper during their stay. Was nice and they enjoyed it.

5 pointsAlways have to go one better! It's ok, I'm buying an excavator soon so can get the wheelhorse up on top of the hedge then.

5 pointsI agree, it gets heavy really fast that thing. We found you could keep the whole rig moving at a decent speed while cutting. It's a bit dodgy but the idea has merit if you ditched the ladder and put a platform of the trailer, especially if it has a drinks holder.
-
5 pointsI would think you could get the most even cut at top speed, trying to hold the trimmer steady for long periods of time is the problem.
-
5 pointsThat is just a pretty picture. Everything looks perfect, a work of art. Nice!
-
4 pointsBob, your seats are top notch, second to none! I’m very proud to have 4 of your seats and the quality is unbelievable! Thank you for all that you do for our hobby!!
-
4 pointsThank you for what you put into these seats, your heart and talent. I'm so happy to have been able to aquire one more of your seats before you quit making them they even make an old patinad tractor look great .

4 pointsHi all, New to the group and hoping to tap into your knowledge. Also hoping I'm posting in the right place. Please excuse me if not. I live in NE Minnesota, and am looking for a WH tractor for mowing and snowblowing. I have a couple of questions I'd like your opinion/knowledge on, mostly about snow blowers and steering: Did all 520H/C models after 1991 have gear reduction steering? How do I know if a machine has gear reduction or not? Do the newer xi series have gear reduction? I think the 520/2/3xi offered power steering as an option, but do non-power steering models incorporate gear reduction? I'm leaning toward 2 stage blower, just because it seems heavier duty, and it snows a ton in NE MN. Are the 2 stage units worthwhile? I was lucky enough to work for Toro for a few years, and really want to find a red machine. Lots of green around here, but hoping to stay RED. Thanks for your help. Greg

4 pointsNow for something really exciting, I would like to see Kevin @pullstart on top of that ladder. After seeing what he can do with a little OSHA approved hand drill, I'm thinking multiple limb amputations and several broken bones.

4 pointsBecause of some stress with front brake calipers on last road approval, i decide to changed today several frontaxle parts on the Car. 2 new ballbearings left and right with 2 new ancorplates, 2 new brake discs and a complete set of brake pads. - nearly a new Frontaxle - I have the ability to do that at my Buddy‘s Workshop. Because of Covid on Friday is next roadapproval schedule. curious what‘s happen this time, last time on test, the right brakecaliper arrests in brake position and cannot be released just with extreme external force. Than i hear a - clank- sound, and all releases. We tried again, but brakeforce where too differently - so no approval. I changed again the discs and pads but still 28% difference on frontbrake. we decide they must be breaked in and than we give it another try. after that clank sound, it works for a month absolute normally as nothing where happen ever. i keep the Jack in the car and tested several times, if the brakes releases and they do. Few weeks later, i’m driving bit faster on Autobahn, where i loose speed and i wonder, what the heck is that now happen. it felt like a loss of Engine torque. I stopped on a sideway and the brakedisc on right side changes its color to blue and a very strong smell occurs. its extremely hot... ok, another brakedisc blastin. So i decide to change this Antichrist of caliper to a new one, but when i do, i do it on both sides. normally this compactbearings rusted so strongly in and need a hammer and a flat chisel to loosen the outer ring than they come in one part out but i had a bad feeling. left side where until screws loosen felling out of in felt thousends of parts arround the bearingcage. The backside of bearingcage itself was that penetrant rusted in and takes a massive bit longer to convince to go out. i never seen sometimes before. A compactbearing that rips arround in the middle section and all outsideparts are just fragments they stuck only together as long as the Screws are tight. When i loose them with the impact wrench, ploink - a felt 100 part puzzle.😳 Sadly i let the ipad at home, because i know it will become a dirty work. but now i wish, i had it with me for few Picts. Gladly i see that before this bearing give up on the Autobahn with Topspeed. Edit - Ok, do quick a Testdrive to do several brake in and verify after, Brake work as it should no eek eek or other noises and it bytes really agressive also from Topspeed to 0 Only the tyres whine for mercy. While i check all again i was able took a quick Pic, because i know nothing happens without Picts... Edit end

4 pointsShown is a B80-8 with a K321 freshly rebuilt, and dual hydraulics. One spool for hydraulic lift one is auxiliary. Many readers ask how to add hydraulics to a 8-speed so I posted this here for easier finding

4 pointsCleaned out my plow truck today. I’ve been reluctant to do so, but I’m finally getting out of commercial plowing. I’ll keep a 1/2 ton with a 7-1/2’ blade on the front for personal use.
-
4 points@GEnd You will never regret having a 44'' two stage blower on a 520 H. If it has been regularly serviced and or if you are willing to bring it back mechanically to where it should be, once you use it you will be praying for snow. I find the gear reduction steering works great. I know my 91 has it and I think they all did up to the last one's in 1997.

4 pointsReminds me of this classic beauty, had a poster like this that used to hang at the parts store I worked at years ago, those who got it laughed hard, and those who scratched their heads at it gave us a good laugh.

3 pointsUpdate on Scottie: It has been a while since I last updated our Red Square Family on how Scott has been doing. As you can see in all of Lowell's other posts, Scott has been more active and involved in more outdoor activities. Scott has been able to get back on our tractors and help with the planting and the cultivating of our garden. In addition to driving the tractors around, Scott has been swimming in our swimming pool daily, working out lifting weights and working on his abdominal muscles, tossing the football around with his friends and brothers, playing corn hole, and tossing the ball around for Maverick (Travis' dog). Due to the increase of activity that Scott is participating in, he was experiencing some bladder spasms and he was having difficulty urinating, so I called Scott''s surgeon and we had to go in and be seen. Our appointment was yesterday and we found out that his kidneys are healing nicely and he is able to empty out his bladder by urinating normally. We were also informed that Scott is scheduled to have surgery on July 13th to have his catheter replaced with a new one and the surgeon wants to see how his urethra is healing. The plan is to keep the catheter in as a back up for Scott in case he forms scar tissue and has difficulty urinating. Scott, Lowell and I would like you to keep our family in your thoughts and prayers for his upcoming surgery on the 13th of July.

3 pointsThanks nut, I was going through the puller section. I’ve never pulled before so I’m reading a lot so I don’t look like a complete noob when I show up. so I grabbed a piece of 2x2x3/16 mild steal and fabbed the angles. Their was a piece of 1/8” flat bar already welded at the top so I guess someone made an attempt to fix it once. I added 2 more and welded it up. Came out pretty nice.
-
3 pointsOne more note Eric. When I bought my Pop up, I realized I needed more ground clearance as I used it off road as a hunting camp. To reach many of the areas I had to ford 12" deep streams. I removed the axle and bolted it under the springs instead of on top as designed. I also replaced the 8" wheels with 12" wheels. This gave me plenty of ground clearance for off road use.
-
3 pointsYeah the ammonia is pretty strong, it usually takes me a couple of days to get it out of my nose after spending a few hours in the shed - especially as we disturb it all! I guess it's like pushing a lot of yellow snow....

3 points2 cans of Brake cleaner would have taken care of that hornets nest without shrub damage. It wipes them out almost instantly! Plus a can with the nozzle can shoot about 10 ft. My father was allergic to bees. I was working at Napa and 1 Christmas I gave him a case of Brake Cleaner. He says "What's this for?" and I say Bees!! Just crack the door open and shoot the nest from the safety of the Kitchen. Next Christmas he asked for another case.
-
3 pointsYap, i will show, nice ideas at all i had also the last 2 years, but without second person you’re fail. so i did it my Way... use a simple Sicklebar provide it with an 8gpm Oilmotor and here we go... F19FAD97-522E-4980-B4C3-7987AA4DCAE8.MOV It cuts accurately enough... follows slightly the Landscape and give yourself some seat time.. Ok a FEL and a 4 gpm Oilsystem is required.
-
3 pointsThe fact you have to use two hands to operate the safety switches on the trimmer was a bit of a handicap - tail would have been useful to wrap around the ladder rungs, wiping sweat of brow and for holding beer.
-
3 pointsI'm almost afraid of the answer that I could potentially get but you seem about half twisted enough to come back with something interesting. So, I'll bite. Hey Dan? How about sharing the detailed construction drawings? Also, does it take special clutch foot sensitivity training to pilot that assembly?

3 pointsAdd some Seafoam to the gas at a rate of 5 oz/Gallon and drive the heck out of it. After that use the normal 1 oz/Gallon ratio. This has worked well for me.

3 pointsIf that number on the side starts with a 61 it's a !976. If it starts with a 71 it;s a 1977. I have owned a 1977 C-120 for 43 years has been my main tractor mower. It's seen a few changes over the years.
-
3 pointsThe piston on the left has severe oil leakage past the rings. The piston in the middle has more oil leakage past the rings than I would care for. The piston on the right is what you would like to see when you pull the head off. The rings on this piston are sealing properly.

3 pointsGreg All 520's except for the very early one's I believe had gear reduction and are a snow moving and mowing machine! Not an xi owner and pro but from what the guys say here just an awesome mowing & blowing tractor. Only thing I do know about the xi's is attachments are tractor specific. The good news for you is both models are fairly common in MN and western WI. Keep an eye on CL and you will find either. The guys are right about a deuce but I keep one of each on hand! There are many threads here on mods to a deuce to make it even better. Plunger ther snapped them trees right off with a deuce!
