12 pointsThought I would share a few Garden videos with Scott driving. Here we are planting sweet corn with the Brinly planter then 15 days later..............

10 pointsThe powers that be filed a complaint that her petunias were too close to the porch supports. When the wind blew it would cause them to rub against the porch supports and damage the flowers on that side. To remedy this issue I scrounged around my garage for a solution. What I found was a couple of spring teeth from a dump rake. Why did I have these?? I might need them some day & today was the day. I welded a piece of 1/4" by 1 1/2" steel to each of the spring teeth to use as a mount to the porch support. This new hanger will keep her plants plenty far enough away from the porch support.. Plus I get amusement from lifting the plants a bit & then letting them drop. They will bounce for a long time!! What can I say, I amuse easily. Let's see your repurpose projects.

9 pointsMany of you have owned these for years with lots of success and some failures. I am brand new to this attachment as I purchased my first one for the 523Dxi last Saturday. It is a two owner Kwik-way in really good shape. It has some nicks and chips and scratches from use but has always been stored under cover and seems to be solid throughout. I did a search for a thread dedicated to this attachment and nothing solid came up and so I decided to start one where we can gather information. Tell stories, share pics, talk about the positives and negatives of the different brands available, and of course show home built designs. I also want to see ingenious ways of using them to make life easier. Has the statement, “Huh, I never thought of using it that way!” Ever entered your mind? 😉 I like the idea of fabbing up some pallet forks for mine as the bucket comes off quickly and easily with four clevis pins. I have about 200# of counterweight used to balance out the deuce and I suppose that I’ll fluid fill my new rear tires when I finally get some for extra ballast. Any other recommendations will be noted and appreciated. I’m tagging a few of you that I know have FEL’s already... @Shynon @prondzy @elliot ness @squonk @pullstart To generate some initial thoughts and pics of your favorite setups...

9 pointsGot this Father's Day gift today the wife said I know what you want go pick it up at Harbor freight. I've already used it a couple times today and this is a wonderful tool
-
8 pointsIt's been awhile since I last posted in this thread. I've been busy remodeling my basement during Coronavirus "stay-at-home", but on Father's Day I decided enough is enough. The horses need to move to their new home.

8 pointsNo red tractors for me. My six boy (2 sons and 4 grandsons) picked me up at 8 AM and took me on a 5+ mile hike along a local stream to the site of a hydro generating station that was built in the late 1800s by the S. Morgan Smith Company which is now owned by Voith Hydro. I retired from Voith Hydro after 47 years and my oldest son Mark has worked there for 30 years. So, this site in addition to being a kayakers paradise is also of special interest to Mark and I. The site is known as the Muddy Creek Gorge and there are many you tube kayaking videos if anyone is interested. The boys actually took me down this steam in a kayak on fathers day about 15 years back. Using old drawings and a picture, we were able to confirm the site of the hydro station and found a draft tube from one of the two turbines. After returning home and a 2 hour recovery nap, Mrs K treated me to a feast of burgers, sweet corn, hot lettuce salad, and strawberry shortcake. Hope you all had a great day.

7 pointsMany of my loader exploits are locked up in Al Gore's locker. I don't use my loader much, mostly to remove snow piles as my neighbor's plow guy insists on filling my sidewalk with about 5 feet of snow every snowfall. Prolly my favorite job the loader did was move this concrete basketball hoop base last year when I was out with back surgery. (I wasn't moving it 20 years ago either! ) I rigged up a WH blade on it with hitch pins to help push piles. Worked quite well

7 pointsA new main engine piston and cylinder head turned up on the ship one day. I had to take the wooden packaging to the skip, so it ended up in my van. We found an old steel framed BBQ on the farm, so stripped it down, repainted, new stickers, added a temperature guage and then turned the wood into a BBQ trolley. Total project cost about £20 and it's a great little unit that fits nicely in my garden trailer so we can cook anywhere we like. Making the custom sticker and nonsense instructions was fun. Then my brother pointed out that I had spelt my surname wrong in the graphics! Oh well, will change it some other time.

6 pointsBoat guy, you should start a new thread in the implements section to get results on your deck question. This thread is a general thread that does not address specific questions or problems. The questions and replies get lost among all the non related chatter. To summarize what has been stated above in several posts; your mule drive pulleys are not correct there should not be a twist in the belt the blades should turn CW viewed from above all blades should be the same length...they will not hit due to the center blade being forward of the side blades If you have the blades on the spindle right side up and you have to twist the belt and make the blades turn CCW to cut, you have a left hand set of blades. Left hand blades turning CCW may cut, but they will not discharge the cuttings across the front of the deck properly and the deck belt tensioner will not work properly. Here is a pic of what your blade should look like. You can see the blade must turn CW viewed from above.

6 pointsBUCKET HOOKS are a must! I added lighys to the tops of my towers so you can see while driving with the bucket up. Always keep. Log chain in the ballast box you will use it more than you think. And 6ply v61s for the front!

6 pointsI'm not going to deny that In a general manner of speaking I would say that's true. She has a very artistic eye as you all know and she certainly has the ability to put good color combinations together. She is quite capable of turning a vision from her mind's eye into reality which a lot of people including myself struggle with. But here's where things head sideways. You know she's not quite all there or at least has some sort of psychological issues because she moved into my house and she keeps choosing to come back every day.

6 pointsColour blindness? Not Eric. Paint department is down to Trina.

6 pointsThe flat idler pulley should be on the outside, and the v pulley should be on the inside. They're reversed in the photos above.

6 pointsWhat did I do to the wheelhorse today, well I beat the heck out of him! I mowed a whole bunch of overgrown trees and brush..extremely deep waist high . threw a couple pictures in their for all to see. P. O. had pullys on backwards or running backwards or something, ..It would not cut. He had been using it with the dull side of the blade ( the lift side) as the main direction for cutting... I don't know what way they are supposed to turn but I rearrange the pullys so that all Blades are cutting properly and turning the right way. But it does not look right to me. I included some pictures of the pulleys upfront don't know if I've got them set up the right way all of this was buggered up and as the pictures show a whole bunch of extra washers were in there instead of taking the time to make bushings to keep the pulleys apart as I did.. Was also wondering where those headlights on mine stock or were they added on. Halfway through mowing the front main pulley came off The mower deck and I ran it over while the blades were still turning, put a little Dent in it but nothing my wizz wheel with a thin blade couldn't smooth out and make OK. The bolt was not there, found a hardened bolt proper size in my shop and put back together works great ..finished the rest of the job. Nice little machine wish it was 4 wheel drive! I estimated on the space between the front pulleys as he had a load of washer's in there instead of a bushing .. still haven't messed With the charging system other than replacing the burnt plug.... G.

Ralph today! picture of my brother David driving dad and I on his steel skid plate with ring and log chain he used for years to haul things around. This was taken at the Portland, Indiana Tri-State Enginge Show!

5 pointsHappy Fathers day all!! Below is a picture of my Dad & me with the last tractor that we restored together. R.I.P. Dad. Today I smoked 3 pork butts for a get together at my sisters. Was good to spend time with family.

5 pointsI spent several hours today experimenting with a new tool. I bought a needle scaler a few weeks ago. I've been wanting for a year or more to repaint the rear wheels that have been on Patriot, the 1267/87 mongrel, and now live on Cinnamon Horse. I had started to simply swap wheel spacers on Cinnamon and then everything went haywire like I always do. I got to thinking... While the wheels are off I'd try the needle scaler and have the paint department throw some nice new Navajo White on. Well I removed a little paint. Then discovered it crappy paint and not worthy of a Wheelhorse. So I stripped both wheels in and out using a combination of the needle scaler and the body grinder with a wire brush. Then Trina set to painting things up a bit. I'm swapping from 3" to 2" so I can use the 3s for Colossus. Here's both sides before: The right side is particularly nasty at the inside bottom. Custom made shaded work station

4 pointsWas stoked when I saw a package left on the porch by fedex... cat 0 hitch work for the Super C....amazing this pretty big chunk of steel was just 65 Washingtons shipped! Even more stoked when the missus came out to the shop and handed me a package from the mailbox loaded with go fast pullies so as I can keep up @Achto on cruises and do some lawnmower racing with @Racinbob ! Bonus pully for Dan's patented flywheel side PTO. Now for the ... I ordered the wrong pulley... FYI the input shaft on a 3 speed is 3/4, a six speed is 5/8. I ordered a 5/8 for a 3. DINO have you not taught me nothing! You have if I could remember it ! Looks like I am gonna have a six that goes fast. Add insult to injury in my haste in the quest for the need for speed I busted the the orginal in my hurry to get it off. Not a big deal as o am heavy on stock input pullies but this one was painted candy apple...

4 pointsI brought a few horses home from winter storage. There might be some horse trading happening at Ed Dogs this week.
-
4 pointsdid a bit more work on the exhaust system. Not much though as we have six dogs in today so I've been pup sitting...
-
4 pointsYou got to go to your local Acme supply store and get you a rotational modulation adapteriser. Other than that I don't see an issue.
-
4 pointsOh no no. I most certainly do not. I'm on the materials and supplies research team.
-
4 pointsI thought you didn't work for the paint dept.
-
4 pointsAnd do not use Vaseline in your hair for the 50's greaser dance. You'll need GoJo smooth hand cleaner to get it out! (This happened to a friend in college! )
-
4 pointsRub the sidewall with Vaseline. Spray your rim. Wipe off Vaseline. Done

4 pointsI hate to say it but Jim is correct, you will NOT want to remove it and will need a dedicated WH loader tractor. In one of my older post I mentioned I had pics of the 93 520-H that I sold and did recently find them I just need to scan them and get them on this thread, great idea by the way. The only thing I would have liked to try was dual wheel adapters on the 417-8 and not so much needed I believe on the 520's. You just need to plan your moves when carrying close to the max weight rating of the KW and keeping the bucket low during transport of material. I do miss mine but because of the property we now have and some of the heavy , wet snow with a long driveway and a large area I like to keep plowed I chose a larger 4 wheel drive diesel powered tractor to take its place. Your 523 dxi by looking at one may be better suited for an FEL than a 520 or 417 is ? You will be inventing things to use it for which is part of the fun. Good Luck Josh

4 pointsPressurized sand blast pot made from 100 lb propane tank, top is cut off then inverted and welded back onto the tank, be sure to cut holes for the pipe fittings before closing the tank. With the inverted top it makes it easy to load the tank with blasting media, the filler hole has an over size gasket you can actually purchase the proper gasket from Empire The aluminum stopper has a pig tail that fits loosely inside the air supply pipe, when air pressure is applied the aluminum stopper pops up then seals against the Empire gasket. But the pig tail is long enough to keep the poppet from falling out. On the larger 600 pound sand pot a proper sand regulator was purchased, The smaller pot just used a rubber lined squeeze valve to control the amount of media being fed to the blast nozzle. Proper respiratory gear is a must and many of the paints etc. being removed contain hazardous materials. Below the crappy drawing an image showing a proper commercially made media control valve.

4 pointsThanks for inviting him on board...feel free to tag others into this. I know that @roadapples mentioned in one of the threads that FEL’s are one of his favorite implements. Once I get the buggy running and out of my shop, the big D is coming in next. I need to get a couple of general maintenance issues settled first, then attach the bucket and get to work removing the sand box, leveling the gardens and preparing for seeding, filling and adjusting some other uneven ground situations in the yard. Regarding a second xi...I can see that being a “problem” already😉.
-
4 pointsThis is going to be interesting. I also want to call Jim into this. @JCM He's had one on a horse in the past and has a bigger one now on another brand.

Old one was rotted out but got fer free for selling high end boilers @JCM. You get them perks Plunge? Dan chastized me for wanting food that tasted like gas but fer the quick burger...hey I KNOW you have a picture of the torpedo! All in all a good Dad's Day... took a nice bike ride to a barbecue place Dan raved about and worth it..... anytime buddy! Came home and just worked around the ranch. Hope all dad's had a nice as day as I did!

3 pointsPaint the tire with brake fluid before painting the rim. Works best if they are laying flat. Don't be frugal with the fluid. The brake fluid is good for rubber and the paint won't stick to it. Done this on both garden and full sized tractor tires. When your done painting wipe the tire off.

3 pointsBilly @WVHillbilly520H had a thread we was yakin about scuts and such. See if I can find it. Is that yer way of telling us it's green an yellow!?!?!? BTW two rules around here: 1) Jim is ALWAYS correct. 2) When Jim is wrong see rule # 1.
-
3 pointsSomething you are goin to want to do is weld some grab hooks on the bucket for lifting. You can also get/make a quik attach for a ball mount for moving trailers. https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200587033_200587033 Forks would be must have at J&C ranch. Stay away for the clamp on forks, very easy to put too much weight to far out front. Northern Tool catalog has lots of other ideas. I see a problem in your future Jack. You are going to want to put this on the Dxi and not want to take it off That means another xi for the blower and deck! That would have been my problem if I would have snagged it! Maybe let me know when you are going to fit it up. I'll see if I can run over and get in your way to see how it's done. Sub frame should be a bolt up deal since it came off an xi.
-
3 pointsI'd best add she's got good taste. Just in case we ever meet.
-
3 pointsIt's clear from the pics that belt is too loose. It's slipping around the engine pulley when descending the hill and basically free wheeling. The brake doesn't work if it only slows it down on flat ground and not on the hill. Fixing the belt and brake will stop the free wheeling.
-
3 pointsHappy Father's day to everyone. We loaded up the camper Friday and had a nice weekend camping at the lake. Came home this afternoon and now just watching it storm outside and relaxing, had a great time but we are all wore out now. Didn't catch any fish over the weekend (gives me a good reason to convince Krystal we need a boat) so I had planned on taking the boys to a little pond up the road from the house this evening when we got home, but everyone was so tired we all came inside and took a two hour nap, guess we will go fishing tomorrow night
-
3 pointsI have seven wheel horse tractors three c series, ten, eleven and twelve HP. With eight speeds. A three hundred, four hundred and two five hundred series with hydro and eight speeds.every one will go up or down a steep grade, I have a hill that is probably a little steeper than recommended and they will go up or down that hill with out free wheeling. I weigh two hundred give or take a few. A three hundred pounder results may be different. I think you need a new belt or adjustment free wheeling is not normal under normal working conditions.
-
3 pointsI managed to get a rack of St.Louie BBQ ribs and short cake too with home grown strawberries and chilled Cool Whip!
-
3 pointsI have a couple of engineer friends. 1 is very old. Everything in his basement you could imagine. Machine shop, piano and organ, Wurlitzer juke box, a military surplus gen set that can light the neighborhood ect. Last I knew he was building computers from scratch . He had an 85" monitor hooked up so his grandkids can play games. 2nd one lives next door. He's never satisfied with nothing. He over builds stuff so bad that if it takes a week to build it, it takes a month to remove it Back to Horses. Since I defeated Joseph Lucas on his home turf with the electrical system on the 1075, I rigged up a temporary seat and replaced the belt. Done for today. wore my leg out yesterday. Got more clean up and cosmetics to go.
