14 pointsJust about sundown I heard a knock on the door, looked up and saw this little guy (or gal) checking things out. Only stands about four feet tall. No Bear food here so he moved on. I took in the bird feeder a few minutes earlier.

11 pointsWell the 753 has changed alot from a "Barn Find" a good friend gave me back in 2017. Different tires, a little rattle can paint job, wheel weights, new decals, different seat & cover, etc. It sure seems to turn some heads when I drive around the yard.

11 pointsHello! I’m new to this forum and to WH tractors. I grew up with an 8N and loved riding around on it and doing little jobs around our property. Now I’m living on a much smaller piece of land and don’t “need” a tractor, but I want to be able to share the experience with my kids. Somehow, I set my mind on Wheelhorse tractors and started keeping an eye on Facebook and Craig’s List. It doesn’t look like many WH tractors live in Maryland. Maybe there wasn’t really a dealer network here. Or maybe it’s just that everything dusts you pieces here. Anyway, I finally found one in PA and picked it up yesterday. It’s a 1970 Raider 12 with the Tecumseh engine, along with a mower deck, front blade, and a snow blower. It’s in pretty good shape for its age. I had today off work, so I got the carb off, cleaned it, and reinstalled. After adjusting it, it now runs a lot better. It needed constant choke before... and constant fiddling between throttle and choke to keep it going. Now it will idle properly with no choke, and I believe I’m getting a little more too end out of it, too. I also replaced the idler pulley, as it had completely lost its bearings and was just being held in place by the belt. Fortunately, the Toro dealer right down the road had it in stock! Check out the condition of that original seat!

9 pointsPlease correct me if I’m wrong @JCM but that Chev is the one in the vintage truck thread that you have owned since new🤔. If so, that is a beauty. If not, you need to add pics and details of that truck in the vintage trucks thread as well😉 After work this morning, I got the boys to help me clean up a bunch of old metal junk from our tree line, much to the joy of Mrs. Peacemaker 😁. Included were a pile of old VERY RUSTY decks. I decided to salvage anything decent off of them before scrapping the hole ridden hulls. These decks were all ones that I had taken in the package deal that included my 1054A. The spindles seemed to be well greased and in AMAZING condition and so we salvaged all of those and are storing them if needed. Will those fit a later model hull like a 48” for a 418-C for instance? They seem to be a much more durable design🤔 The last deck had a particularly stubborn center pulley but Judge and I kept working at it with a heavy dose of tenacity (for you Kevin😉) and finally got it to free up! Then Caleb and I put mommas deuce back together. Some idiot (that would be yours truly) managed to run a gallon ice cream pail full of frozen water through the impeller last winter. it sheared the key on the drive sprocket right in two and bent that one impeller bar. We got a new key in and reset the chain tension, straightened the impeller, lubed everything up, and put it into summer storage. Hopefully it will work as it should next winter🤞🏻 Then we got the D out and moved it into the shop! I’m really excited about the new attachment I’m picking up this weekend for it. So, I’ll take the time to chain fluids, do some routine maintenance, and get it ready to work!

8 pointsCleaned and sanded the 48" deck off the new 416-8. Deck is solid all around. No holes, not even any weak spots. Got the blades off for sharpening. Getting it ready for some paint. I am not going to take it all apart to paint it. Just want it to look a little better. Not painting the tractor so its going to look a little off anyways. I got Regal Red. See what that looks like. Also picked up new air filter, plug, fuel filter, and oil for it.

8 pointsWorked on some messed up hubs for @Snoop@ICI I have seen some bad ones but these were the worst. No idea how they ever even stayed on the tractor. The one side walked in so far the woodruff decided to do a little machining of it's own! Did manage to save them both.

7 pointsBack at the 420 today and straightened out the side of the tunnel where the brake rod goes in from the pedal. Looks like someone had tried to pry on it for some reason, got out a 2x4 with a couple screws and fender washers and a ball peen hammer to flatten it out some then removed the 2x4 and used a dolly and hammer to finish it off. Pulled everything inside the tunnel out, all shafts and motion control lever and will clean it up and replace anything that needs it. The picture of the roll pin set was used to knock out broken cotter pins where there should have been hairpins, that set has always worked very well and durable. A few pics of painted items for both the 310 and the 420. My hat goes off to all of you who take on full blown restorations and builds, you are all amazing and gluttons for punishment.
-
7 pointsIt's been close to 20 years since doing any painting or trans swap and now I find myself with 2 projects at the same time in 2 different States. The 310-8 and the 420. Taking my time and actually enjoying them both with no deadlines to meet, unlike at work. Thank you @squonk for the NAPA info on the seals for both tractors. A few pics for now.

6 pointsDon't be surprised if your catching the same Coons over and over. 5 miles is nothing for them to travel and they might just beat you home.

6 pointsSometimes they help and do it because they want to, other times I have to encourage them to do so. However, I know in the long run it is very beneficial to them. They learn the proper use of mechanical tools, critical thinking skills, how things are assembled, observing what REAL quality is so that they are more able to spot cheap substitutes in the future, a general mechanical knowledge for times when they may need it and I’m not around, the list could go on. My kids enjoy their gaming system for sure but I try to make sure it stays balanced with things that have a much greater importance to their future well being.

5 pointsJosh my boy in WV has kept me on my toes for the past 3 months with his Federal Yellow and White collection it has been a "frustrating" but rewarding process as I only get to help him physically once every couple weeks then trying to explain how things work/go over the phone but nonetheless he has a 70s 1200 and then late 80s a 1211 Kohler Magnum 12 hydro and 1606 Briggs Vangaurd 16 Hi/Lo 3spd I just can't get him on a red WH he wants a red 82 series... Anyways what I done to my WH today "new" shoes on the rear of the 414-8 from 23x8.50s Carlisle Turf Savers to 23x9.50s Carlise Turf Masters

5 pointsTrina did all the work. We are not sure what you have been doing. I cut up some metal to make a receiver hitch for tr 520-H. Need to pick up the receiver hitch and some bolts. Then get it welded.

5 pointsIll try that this weekend and report back to you. 'By the book' calculations show very close to double the speed at trans input, taking it from approx 5.6mph to 11mph. Butt GPS says thats about correct. I gotta say its quite comfortable, unlike GPS confirmed 28mph on the 654 trail bomber which is quite the white knuckle ride

5 pointsI seen something like this gauge in the extra drain hole of the oil sump. I think less than $30 bucks. Not sure of the thread size.
-
5 pointsMike, the two wires on the S/G light are supposed to be insulated from ground and one-another in the socket. Like many other things on our tractors the ravages of time can take their toll on the socket. Easy for these wires to come into contact with each-other. If they touch or the insulation between the two parts in the socket breaks down the light will be on anytime the key is on and the socket has no ventilation. The lamp # should be 57. I would suggest you buy a Cole-Hersee PL 20RC000 and replace the old one. It is a direct replacement item.

5 pointsBeen there, done that...yet again! Was good to finally get out...do some business, and see my W-H peeps again.

4 pointsinspired by 1970's Peterbilts and the fact I like to know whats going on... I was wondering what gauges you guys had retrofitted? I've drilled the panel ready I don't think you can have too many gauges dry run - so ignore the panel being reversed - plus theres a bit of metal behind that needs some surgery... Duplicate temp gauge soon to be fuel gauge. Might add a few switches, lights and Fuses for maximum effect.

4 pointsI'm sitting here in my usual spot outside the shop and I glanced down and see this little creature.!

Looks ok I guess, the tractor isnt here to compare the color. I have the deck decals on order from @Vinylguy . At least its going to look better then it did. < I hope >

4 pointsHere's one that will get your attention, once air pressure has been reached the ( wig wag ) flag is set into position manually, should air pressure fail the flag drops down right in front of yer face. Our Hayes logging truck was equipped with warning buzzer, air pressure gauges and a trailer brake application gauge in addition to the wig wag. Love the sound of the Jake when coming down a long steep mountain grade.

3 pointsWe only have hose spigots on our house hooked to the water softener. I know it’s bad for garden plants, but good to use for washing (and drying) a vehicle or tractor. I am running a non-softened spigot for the garden. I didn’t realize that the roots of a plant will cost themselves with salt and begin to choke themselves of water!

3 pointsSold one of my other mowers, a Westwood Laser L95. It was in pretty good condition, with a non rusty deck. In theory that means I can fill the space with another wheelhorse....

3 pointsHelped today a workmate and fella. he bought last week a 52 year old Zündapp in a pretty nice condition but he had some troubles to get it run properly. it is a simple 2 stroke Engine, i know from my beginning time of driving. When i do a quick testdrive the Engine seems to stall sometimes, especially if you quick pull the Throttle to max. I told him - definitely a Fuel issue. Firstly we do a complete Cleanup on the Carb, but just a little bit of dirt was in, the bowl was so far clean and the nozzles seem‘s no clogged, than he fill it completely with new mix Fuel and i do another Testdrive. Same happens again. I told him, let‘s cleanup the Fueltank and he meant nono, no way, the others all had said no needed, it must be an ignition issue. cannot be a fuel issue..... So i give it a Try and remove the complete the fueltap and mount a bigger hose onto. Than we flush the whole tank 5 times... first flush second flush..... third flush..... awesome - huh 4- th and 5 th flush. 😎 i didn‘t expected that much of dirt and rust but i got the right decision. it was unbelievable how much rust we removed. this where 2 Mug’s full of Rust. 🤪and there still is some more. But because this Tank is Part of the Frame, we decideded we fill it up to max with pure fuel and let it sat until tomorrow to release that rust and if he didn‘t come to a final status tomorrow, we clean it out once more with a pure Fuel to remove all the rest oil of the mixture, dry the Tank out and use a sand blasting rig to cleanup that Fueltank finally.

3 pointsmaybe he should get some costume hair dye and give ‘em a sqonk stripe to be sure?

3 pointsBear sightings around here are very few and far between. This one was found last week in a town nearby. At our old house, there was one just a couple miles down the road sighted at a pond I’d toss a row boat in and cast (not much catching going on) a worm around once in a while.
