Every other day there is a package at my house for my wife or daughter (or both!), never anything for me. Well today it was my turn. Fuel gauges baby !

Well after I came back from picking my truck up at the garage < that was 700 bucks> I came across this little gem I couldnt pass up. They guy said his dad bought it brand new. He said he remembered he paid 3000 bucks for it back then. Not sure of the year...84...85...86 ? It has been passed around in the family now I have it. It seems to be in pretty good shape. Real dirty but solid and all there. The engine seems to run really well 16hp Kohler Magnum what do you expect. Seems the clutch needs adjusting not sure how to go about that. If you push the pedal all the way down you have to let off some to find the sweet spot to get it in gear. The low idle needs adjusting. Even with the trottle lever fully down it s it idles high. Its missing the plastic knob on throttle lever. when you lower the deck the front of the deck is low and scalds the lawn on the front of deck. The deck its self is great no noise out of the spindles, sounds great. I am asking myself why I got another as I have no place to put it. Its the addiction Lord Help Us. Bad news is I am going to have to leave it at a friends house. Going to kill me not to be able to tinker with it till I make room. Let me know what you all think. I have no knowledge of this model. I had a 308-8 once but didnt have the bells and whistles this one has. The ID sticker I cant read. Any other way to figure it out?

Nope, bought as much as I could as if it was toilet paper ! Never know when this Covid scare will put the squash on fuel gauge production

Well you were all correct !!!!! They multiply... Took my van and trailer and picked up a B-100 with Hydro today... looks pretty clean and runs exceptionally well, only issue I could find was a weeping rear axle seal. I am sure I will be asking advice on changing both while its apart. I probably paid a little too much at 425.00 but Horses are scarce in the Northeast in good shape so I jumped right on this one.... first Craigslist alert that was a reasonably good buy. Let me tell you how much I love my trailer for this stuff, lower the ramp drive them in and strap them down.....and off for home... Mike B

Here’s my turn to point out a silly mistake. On I’ve NEVER done before (sarcasm alert!)... Forgot the nut before the double flare!

Good question...so my C105 and GT1600 Workhorse both have busted gauges. My sons 310-8 has just a cap without a gauge. A co-worker has two 310-8’s and both her gauges are busted. So I bought 5 ! Co-worked paid me in advance for two, my 25 year old homeowner son will Say “Gee, thanks dad!” and screw it on

Had an oops! today mesel'. Changing engine oil and filter, plus fuel filter on one of the farm tractors. Warmed it up then removed the sump drain plug. While it was draining removed the oil filter above it. I knew there was a tool for removing filters, but during lockdown my farmer friend had tidied the workshop up and some things had a new storage place.. Couldn't find the tool so used the well known method of a screwdriver through the filter and removed the filter. Thought it was strange that the oil in it was clean. Then the penny dropped. It was the hydraulic oil filter. The engine oil filter was on the other side and I didn't have a hydraulic filter. One was quickly sent for.

This is definitely some thing that people should be aware of when they start playing with gearing/pulleying up their tractor. The two tractors that I have with larger pulleys on the engine like to pull the front wheels off of the ground on take off. With Radpferd you do not want to let the clutch out unless that engine as at an idle, or he will throw you on your back. Going faster is fun just remember to be safe.

Morning Please can someone help me determine which wheel Horse this is, the only reason I am asking is the engine is only mounted to the frame with 2no bolt as the holes the other side over hang the frame. The plate says its a Raider 12 but I am wondering if the main frame is different?? Please see attached photos

I was about 15 minutes from finishing the mowing with the 417H when the 48" SD started making a noise that Sounded like a baffle had come loose and was hitting a blade. It wasn't too horrible, so I finished mowing and started to remove the deck. This is what I found. The zerk was gone and the nut and spindle was nicely rounded. Then the 417 pulled the boat out to get it ready for the crabbing season. All the while, my neighbor's hired hand (12 years old) prepped the field for planting.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/100s-of-NEW-V-Belt-Pulley-2-7-3-3-1-2-3-3-4-4-4-1-2-5-All-Bore-Sizes/381677194774?hash=item58ddbbce16:g:wEkAAOSwr41XHso7&var=650740874697 Here's where I got them. His website is usapulley.com I don't think he had sku's. I had to open up the belt guard just a wee bit at the engine end and readjust the belt stop tab but you can't tell even knowing it's been done. Remember the bigger pulley is only 1/4" larger radius. A 70" belt looks to be about perfect. It doesn't allow the idler to pull back quite as far as the stock pulley setup but I think it's actually better. Belt engagement is excellent. So excellent that the first test drive it caught me off guard and the front wheels popped up about a foot as I was exiting the garage.

Jim, hydraulics will make that tractor a perfect plow mule. Let me know when you need the crank shaft extension made so that you can use that CW Hein Wernner pump.

That‘s the reason while i hate it to work in a hurry or start several things the same timeline. This is a nearly guarantee such things can happen, but you just have to cut few mm to redo.

"What's in your mirror?" Stick with me for a minute here. Back in the day, my Father-in-law and I would build/repair decks and docks and boats and whatever at his Massachusetts lakehouse. EVERY SINGLE TIME we would tow the boat down the road to the launch, he would say, "Somebody's following us. And they're really close!" LMAO In the later years, the rear end collision warning system on his newer Suburban told us so. I miss those days.

Stripped down a really nice all original '68 Raider 12 for inspection and repair. Was abused and put away wet by PO but has great potential. Hubs and keyways very sound. Rims had the totally wrong offset and some other minor PO inflicted injuries. Half a mind to up fit this girl with hydraulics for a backup or loaner plow rig. The rest of it has got all the makings.

Post all the numbers of the engine decal including the serial number and we may be able to figure out the tractor's model number. I will guess it is a 1987 416-8 model 31-16K803 with magneto ignition and 15 amp stator The right brake pedal has a knob on it that lands on the footrest when the brake is off. Over time that bends the footrest down so it no longer stops the pedal. Bend the footrest back up and it is good for another 30 years. Garry

Coils hardly ever go bad. If they do usually oil is leaking out. A new coil will be marked + and -. A new coil from Napa would be # IC64SB Do you have a 12 volt test light? If so with the key switched to start you should have 12 volts at the + terminal. At the negative terminal the light should flash while cranking. If it just stays on your points aren't opening to break the primary circuit of the coil. If you have no light at all on the neg terminal it means your coil has an open primary winding. Your points have to break the primary circuit of the coil to cause a magnetic field to collapse which induces the high voltage in the coil secondary circuit.

Ok I used to work as a tech for Porsche. I remember the days when synthetic and other standard oil additive came out. Many of these products caused seal failure in some of the older Porsches. It was a nightmare. So im still suffering PTSD on oil grades from those days I suppose :) Thanks and Cheers.

Ok, First off, thanks to all of you for your welcome and input. So heres what I have learned / discovered. 1) Belt cover did indeed need to be on. I can see and understand that now. The bottom of the guard supports the belt allowing slack around the engine pulley. 2) The idler wheel. I asked this question as the one on my machine had been bent and chewed up a bit by a previous backyard mechanic. So I straighten it back to factory shape. Indeed it does two things. 1) it provides guidance to keep the belt on when slack and 2) it most certainly acts as a belt brake when the clutch is depress. Both of these functions make perfect sense. With the guard on and the idler pulley set up to clear when in drive mode and pinch when the clutch is depressed the unit now shifts very smoothly. Now on to many other service items this unit needs :) Cheers!

Ok I was lookin on their website and he has sku's there. Silly me not thinking they are on flea bay. As long as I don't have to alter the belt guard. Dan and Cindy would strangle me I messed up the paint! Guessing the front is single groove? Not that it matters these girls won't ever run a attachment. Thanks Bob

Can you get me the sku's of the pullies you used Bob? Any problems with clearance on the belt guard? Looking to do the same to get a little more speed out of the 702. The way it sounds the stock 70 ' belt works. Also the 1055 that might get the same treatment if it works out as well as you say. Looks like they have quite the selection .... https://usapulley.com/

I believe that's the main reason but I also think it does assist in stopping the belt. Not as a replacement for the guard but an added bit of assistance. I'll be experimenting today with this very thing. I recently posted about some pulley swapping on my 854 to get a bit more speed. When the stock pulleys and 70" belt were on it there wasn't enough clearance to allow for that tab on the idler. It would bump up to the Sheetmetal not allowing a tight engagement. With the 3" engine pulley and 71" belt, same thing. With the 3" engine and 3.5" transmission pulleys and 70" belt there's plenty of room. With the former two setups belt stopping wasn't an issue but it did lose the belt once. With my final setup belt stopping isn't an issue for me but I have to be careful. Adjusting the clutch pedal so it didn't depress so far before the brake stopped it cleared up that issue but I have one of those tabs so I'll be putting it on this morning since I now have the clearance. When the idler is tensioning the pulley the tab is totally clear of the belt. When the clutch is depressed the tab kinda grabs the belt thereby helping it to stop. Pictures and more later today.

Just saying, I don’t think they remind you in the instructions to put that nut on, I remember one time bending a tube, wanting to get one more job done, it had a double Z configuration. Ran into 3 problems, nut was on the other side of the Z, two the last bent went left not right, three didn’t have another one, I think I may still have that trophy.

I believe you will find bolts underneath frame up into tapped holes into the bottom of the engine. Looks original to me. K301

came home dreading the idea of 5 gallon cans filling this behemoth... come home to find grandpa’s truck in the drive with a blown brake line. We struck a deal. I fix his truck, I borrow it to fill up the dozer. With his transfer system! Winning!
