15 pointsall looking good there Dan! Love those one of a kind hitch pins😉 We were out of town ministering at a church in the morning. Caleb sang a song while Kelli accompanied on the piano. It was really great to be back in church again! When we arrived home in the late afternoon Caleb, the little boys and I decided to get Comanche back together. It really looks funny without the battery and the S/G in there! I’ll let Caleb go into detail in his thread but it was fun to get some wrench time with my boys...

12 pointsGot this old gem off Facebook Marketplace. Fellow had recently bought it and came to find it was simply too powerful for his apartment, as it would cause doors to slam and things to come flying off shelves.. 50's era Sears Homart 20" fan.. they claim it was rated at 4250cfm.. Two speeds and reversible, with a 12 hour timer as well. Heavy.. really heavy for what it is. Figured you'd find this old timer rather interesting.

12 pointsKind of a long day at work, then a ride out about an hour from here to look at some tractors (non-WH) that I thought could be flipped for some extra $$...not sure how that is going to work out yet. Got home and the wife had fishy taco’s made ! Now it’s time to relax with Red Square and a “Mikes” ( hey! That’s my name ) in my fav koozie.

11 pointsToday was a sunny day. So I have been helping the neighbor girls rehab their Duck coop (ducks to come) and we got the horse out to stretch her legs and haul the coop where they girls wanted it. We added extra bracing, put doors back on with new hinges, repaired the roof, then the girls painted it. The two girls on the outside are the neighbor girls and the girl in the center is my granddaughter. Got the charging problem fixed, I think so of course had to get her out for awhile.

11 pointsI started off my day with only one simple task in mind. I wanted to make a new rear fender brace for my 701. After I made my new part I looked around for some paint to shoot on it to protect it until I get around to giving this tractor a respectable paint job. For some odd reason I was out of my favorite Vansickle spray bombs & I did not feel like making a 1 hour round trip drive to get more. Instead I choose to make a 15 minute round trip to my local TSC and try some of their Majic brand paint. Given the dry time between coats on the Majic paint, I may have been further ahead to make the longer trip for my usual paint. Any way here is a pic of the fender brace that I made below the one that a PO made. Mine is much closer to the original shape. The Majic paint takes at least 1Hr between coats. While I was waiting I took on a few more projects. I decided to throw some paint on the belt guard that I had made for this tractor. And then I was waiting for paint again. I didn't like the fact that the seat that I have for this tractor is painted orange. Well lets start paint on another piece.I know that most square pan seats are painted red but seems this paint is only temporary I thought that I would see how a white square pan seat would look on the 701. And...still bored with down time while waiting for paint to dry enough for the next coat. Next project - for some reason people seem to like to "borrow" hitch pins from me when I'm at tractor shows. I have no idea how many store bought hitch pins that I have lost, but the pins that I have made myself always seem to make their way back to me. I figured I might as well make a couple hitch pins while I was waiting. This time it involved junk tranny parts & some 1/2"round stock. I think that they turned out OK. Rumor has it that there will be a small local tractor show next weekend. I would really like to go so to fill in more gaps between coats of paint I did some grooming on a couple of my show ponies. . If my calculations are right, the paint on my parts should be dry in about a month.

10 pointsHitch pins is precision work, other wise I would've used a cordless drill. I can assure you that each of the hitch pins that I made was precisely measured with a micrometer, marked with chalk, & then cut with an axe.

8 pointsWell I picked this up a couple weeks ago. It got me back into the club since I was left " Horseless" after having to sell the 3 that I had. I havent been able to make any progress on my Lambert project, I am still looking for an engine for it. So in my spare time I have been working on this C-161. It ran pretty good when I picked it up. The rear end fluid was low. Lights didnt work. Looked like a mess but over all pretty good. Since then I cleaned it pretty good. Did a little spray can touch up on the deck. Put a new seat on it. Had to buy a new air filter assembly. Bought new front head light lens and new tail light lens's from @76c12091520h. Got new decals from @Vinylguy Just today rewired the lights so they all work and changed the oil in the engine. All I have left that I want to do is change the rear end oil and ask all of your opinions on replacing the engine mounts with the rubber again or just use the spacers? Here some before and after photos cause I know how much we all like pictures.

5 pointsTook a little trip on Saturday morning (7hr roundtrip) to pick up this Delta DP220 drill press. The serial tag dates it 1947. I have a super cheap used taiwan drill press that just hasnt been up to snuff and I really have been wanting a heavy built press for quite a while now. Im gonna clean up some rust and leave the paint alone. I also need to make the power switch rod and bracket, if anyone has one dimensions of the rod that would be great! Boy she sure runs like a well oiled sewing machine!

5 pointsI agree. My first job, at 13, was at a Wheel Horse dealership. The first rule they taught me: If it's a fuel problem, remove, disassemble and clean the carburetor. Do NOT waste your time spraying carb cleaner and revving the throttle. Remove the carb, disassemble and clean. It takes about 15 minutes.

4 pointsSo this morning I took a drive to the dump and upon arrival I see a Wheel Horse 416-H sitting in the scrap pile. Walked over and it fired right up! The guy at the dump said the previous owner had enough of it and couldn’t make it drive he was done trouble shooting it. Apparently that went on for two years? Anyway I pushed it right onto my truck and got it home. Transaxle was full of the proper fluid so took belt guard off. There I find the issue a very stretched belt and the wrong spring on the tensioner. He had a small spring as seen on driver side brake band. So pulled that all off put a new belt on it with the proper spring and man oh man this thing cuts and works great. Now here are pictures of her and the beautiful job it did on the grass today.

4 pointsI was wondering if anyone could give me any information on my 1971 800 special. It is a great machine and i have the original deck and mule drive it was sold with and I am the 2nd owner. It is a strong running tractor that has been more of my play toy. It is all original except for that it does 25mph. I’m just looking for a brochure or manual or # of how many were made etc....

I'm gonna get back at it with quite a few ideas now. I'll let everyone know what we find. Thanks again, and y'all have a good day and a better one tomorrow.

4 pointsI had some paint made and put into a spray can a couple of years ago. Bear in mind I use this paint all the time. I bought a 701 that wasn't the correct red. I needed to paint the PTO parts. The paint reader at Napa was broke so we eyeballed it with a chip and they mixed it. It wouldn't dry. 6 month's later it was still soft! I went in and asked to look at the formula. ( I used to mix paint years ago) THERE WAS NO DRIER IN THE FORMULA! Who comes up with a formula for paint with no drier? I ended up stripping the paint off and traveling 30 miles to the Napa Paint store to get the tractor hood shot to get a decent formula. Turned out it was a Ford Red and with the proper drier the urethane enamel was dry in an hour. PS Majiac paint is good for painting trashcans and that's about it.

4 pointsYou won't damage anything Ed. But as an example: When I worked at GM garages on the 4 and 6 bangers they had 1 coil firing 2 cylinders. If you pulled a coil wire off you killed both cylinders to that coil. If a car came in with a skip we used a 12Volt test light. We would slip the probe between the wire boot and the wire on each cylinder. When the engine skip didn't change,we found the bad cylinder. We provided the ground thru the test light so the circuit was completed. At least on the GM DIS ignition the spark traveled as I mentioned. And I was taught that's how waste spark technology works. I'm sure it was all figured out in the ign module. It was pretty neat and simple to diagnose. Perhaps kohler and Onan modules separate the circuits and allow you to pull a wire off and not effect the other cylinder.

4 pointsThis is on a handsaw but rod should look the same. Bracket on drill press is just a loop. Refer to the thread above.

3 pointsToday I was troubleshooting a blowing headlight fuse on my 1989 310-8. Both times it happened was after mowing with the lights on for 30 minutes+ so it was clearly an intermittent short. After two instances of me being an idiot: One: checking for voltage and not finding any when the battery was sitting on the bench behind me. Two: checking for shorts using a continuity meter set on beep and thinking my headlight was shorted to ground. (It is dummy, literally a high resistance short to ground) Anyway, after a lot of poking around, checking with a meter, being dumb, I found the black/blue wire under the engine was squished. I'm not positive, but I suspect it was the Attach-A-Matic. I cut the squished part out of the wire, stripped, soldered, shrink wrapped it. I just thought I'd post this here in case someone else has the same problem. Perhaps it's a common pinch point for the headlight wire on these models. Edit: Title word bad. :\

3 pointsI like to make things that make my life easier, I don't make things to sell, too much liability... lol here's something I came up with a few years ago. I don't like to leave gas in machines that are going to sit for any time so I put this together. 12v electric fuel pump runs on a (tractor/portable) battery, does a great job and no more gasoline taste! I always hated trying to start a siphon
-
3 pointsNo you ain't. It really was an evil nasty person with tiny little hands whut done that. Right or wrong, what I do is use a thin wrench to loosen or tighten them against the engine. Moving them in and out I use a screwdriver that's fairly narrow and long to clear the carb. 1/2 turn, move screwdriver to other side of same screw head. Repeat 2 or 4 times. Go to other screw and do it again. It's time consuming and drives you crazy and I don't need that help but it works... Slowly. Just keep working back and forth.
-
3 pointsJust ordered a set of those. I will let you know how they work.
-
3 pointsto the Archie. The twin should run on one cylinder. To determine if the problem is related to a cylinder, pull the plug wire off the rear cylinder and see if the engine will run on the front cyl only. Then reverse the procedure. If it is cylinder related, a compression check must be done.

3 pointsWe camped at my brother and sister in law’s new place at the lake this weekend. After driving ‘cross town to dump tanks, Norman overheated. We pulled over for about 20 minutes, topped off the coolant reservoir and tried again. Overheating within a mile on a long grade, we coasted into town and left it in a parking lot in favor of bumming a ride from my golf partner. Ran to town for some thermostats, an A/C charge kit for him and some coolant. Then Mrs. P. found this Raider 10 right about a half mile from where we overheated, so we scooted over and grabbed that. We ended up limping Norman and the camper home a little at a time and spent the rest of the day in the pool and watering the garden. I’ll change the t-stats and flush it a few times with fresh water before filling back up with coolant.

3 pointsI forgot to mention how I found the short. After inspecting everything under the battery, I put it back in and troubleshot it the old fashioned way. I turned the key and headlights on and jiggled wires. I heard the tell-tale sparkles from somewhere under the front frame rails. And smiled. Found you, you stinkin' why I oughta...

3 pointsMore info please. Hours on it? What tools? And seriously, get it fixed! Price will suffer greatly if you sell it broken. Something like that needs to run strong, or you will only get worst case senario offers on it.
