I though it might be fun to have some humour in these dark times. So let's have some good clean, hem hem, jokes from across the world. A young farmer is riding along on a lovely red wheelhorse. His friend meets him and says hey, nice wheels, where did you get that? Well, it's a bit strange but this young girl was riding it along. When she saw me she pulled up, jumped off, took off all her clothes and laid on the ground and said take whatever you want. Well the clothes wouldn't fit so I took the tractor.

Tilled a spot for more asparagus and some rhubarb today. Checking out the new 1055 with 701 double pulley engine too. It came with an impressive mouse house, but it appears to be vacant. It came with some extras and some plows too!

Been doing some cleaning and straightening in the shop and its cleaner thats its been in quite some time!! Still got a long way to go, but it feels good to see some progress!!

I have been using the M.E. Miller black tire paint (can be purchased from M.E. Miller) for over ten years now. When you have a good set of old Wheel Horse tires but they are still worth using you can use this Miller black tire paint to make them almost better looking than new! I have had a bottle of concentrated black (which they no longer sell) for ten years. I have used a couple dollops in a cottage cheese container with a few tablespoons of water on over forty tires. I have also given away several containers for people to use on redos. The proof is in the pudding folks. It works. A new bottle of the paint is $20 but well worth it. I posted picture of a dirty old rear Good Year tire from an RJ I bought and repainted twice for illustration of the outcome of painting with Miller Black Tire Paint.

First of all I'm sorry no before pictures there was a camera accident, got this tractor on a labor trade no engine,bad transmission,bad tires,and a poor paint job with no prep work,I was lucky to have almost all the parts to repair had to buy a new seat,this was a working tractor redo used satin red paint to get it simple have a friend bending me a belt cover and getting ready to order stickers,this is going to be my snow pushing tractor.

I spotted this on CL and thought it could some TLC. It is a 312-8 built in 94.It is missing the starter and some other bits but is mostly intact.It has the 1 1/8" axle transaxle so it has potential.The best part is it was only a few miles up the road.

You refer to “me” in the second part. Sounds like a real story. If it wasn’t a Wheelhorse I would say poor decision but since it was its ok.

This is what I like to see, a bunch of rusty parts & some scratches in the bottom of a new truck bed. Unlike some people I know who lined their truck bed with carpeting & you have to be careful how you put things in them so you don't scratch anything. I'm all about keeping the outside of a truck looking good but a trucks original design was to haul things & I think that's what they should be used for.

After 37 years the old girl dies not skip a beat. Not the same for the old boy chasing her. Beginning to have engine timing issues, a few misfires and ball joints are beginning to creak. I may need to have a carrot on a stick hanging out in front. And not one made by @stevasaurus

So as I roll over in bed, check my email notification on this 1055, then Jim’s PM, then the ad, I’m all wrapped up in deciphering how much he really wants for this project. Mrs. P had something important to say, but I’m not great at multi-tasking. I totally didn’t hear a thing she said, but could tell she was waiting for a response. “Sorry honey, I was reading this tractor ad.” Well that didn’t go over great. I reminded her that very often, I’m on the other side of that conversation but with a FB post, online game or some other pointless distraction. Well that didn’t go over great. What’s a guy to do, huh?

Jim, for $200.00 its in my yard.Thats where the pictures were taken.The guy I got it from says he knows where another one is located.He travesl all over the county and he now knows I am on the hunt for WHs.

In the 15 years i've worked there , this is the third , complete, running , driving , cutting , WHorse that i've pulled from down there. This one is in the worst condition of the three. I don't have pictures of #1 but it was a 16hp blackhood with a 48" deck (engine did need rebuilt and then we sold it / still running). For those that are curious here is # 2: it came in about 5-6 yrs ago, 42" side, 42" blade, just as seen here in the wash bay at work, we still have it. (needed the carb rebuilt). The wagon was another, about a year ago.

Thanks for the add. Took a while for me to even figure out what kind of machine I had here... it was given to me as part of a deal for a Craftsman GT5000. No decals and at that point, I'd never even heard of Wheel Horse before. After the magic of a Google image search brought me to Wheel Horse, I still don't know what model I've got. I fixed up the GT5000 for towing a spray rig on the farm (way easier than using an ATV with thumb throttle). Now it's time to evaluate the Wheel Horse. I know the Wisconsin engine isn't original and it's missing the belt cover that's needed for proper clutch operation and prevent leg injury. Steering wheel is broken and what's left of it needs to be removed. This isn't a restoration (likely be used to move a trailer and maybe push wood shavings around a concrete floor) so I have no problem throwing in a Harbor Freight engine if I can't figure out the Wisconsin-- it would also be nice to go with electric start and get some lights on it. Also looks like it has more than one rattle can paint job in the past... As I work on this, I'll probably be be asking newbie questions.

What kind of gas do you use? Sounds like you have ca-ca in the fuel bowl. They will put around and idle ok but put a load on it and it will start using more fuel and suck it from the bottom of the bowl. That crummy fuel will settle on the bottom and stay there unless it gets loaded up or drained. Sounds like a carb cleaning is in order

My latest haul from today’s trash... Neighbor few houses down. Out of oil and gas...safety switch cable broke... Filled both, bypassed safety and fired up on 1st pull... 5 minutes... Little bit of Lucas treatment and it purrs... cuts good too! Will add an old style kill switch and I got myself a new “brush hog”!

Wow... in my 701 frenzy I missed the plow... was a nice score! So yesterday in my early morning email I see one from CL for a 1055 carcass but the motor in it was definitely a 701. The guys write up said 200 for the tractor PLUS another 250 for the belt guard. The ad said located in Portage so I was immediately ahh... lets just say interested, you guys know what red tractor porn can do to a guy! Turns out it was in Portage MI near Kalamazoo not far from Kev not Portage WI. So I quick PM him about it & include Dan as he's got a worse penchant for 701's than me. Right away Kev has to say something about me snooping for horses in MI!!! Truth be told Kev I keep an eye on them MN fellas too! Dan says and I quote with some editing! Sooo... Why does it have a k161 engine from a Wheel Horse 701 - the only to use a double belt S/G???? $250 for the belt guard!!!! The crack most make him see an extra $100 value on that. Looks like a Mutt to me. But I'd pay the $200 for the tractor. He can use that $250 belt guard to shovel sand up his. Keep in mind here this is 630 AM and I about fell off my barstool laughing! So call the guy Kev I says … you call the guy he says and I again quote.... "I'm tractor heavy" So he calls the guy and tells us about the seller's voice mail message.... so now I gotta call the guy... it was hilarious. the guys message says something about don't bother pressing 1 for Spanish I'm American! So we both leave a message but I never get called back but Kev does and we keep batting back and forth about what's it's worth. Then Kev pm's us this about it.. "This is all assuming he sets the gun against the wall and heads inside for another Milwaukee’s Best and a chew and notices the message!" Yup off the barstool I went! Thanks bro really made my morning! This is where you tell the guys about your morning conversation with Mrs. P Kev......

What about the two bottom plow, you would be the talk of all the plow days with that mounted to the back of the GT-14.

No air cleaner on the engine can cause all kinds of bad issue. Specially in dusty conditions like mowing lawn. Definitely want to get an air cleaner on it. If you can post some pictures of you engine area, sometimes guys will notice things that might be giving you issues.

I have used hitch pins I buy at TSC for a rear wheel horse hitch . They are easily removed with handle and are smaller than 3/4 width for easy removal.

I cut some 3/4" round stock to length plus a little and drilled holes in each end so that cotter pins or hair pins could be used to hold it in place instead of the E-clips.

So I've been fighting to remove the rear hitch pin from the '89 312-8 that I picked up last month. It apparently hasn't been removed in the last 30 years nor did it have grease applied prior to install. Needless to say it was corroded in place spectacularly. "Hammer time" didn't work, piped wrench didn't work, and both of those with heat didn't work. I've been spraying it down daily for the past 2 weeks with rust penetrant and today decided to go to Napa and get a external extractor set and use my impact gun with heat and rust penetrant and hope that would work. I was able to pry the spacers out of the way for more working room. It finally gave after about 20 minutes of hitting it with the impact, heat, and WD-40. Mind you it wasn't 20 minutes straight. There were some breaks with choice words being thrown at it while my little compressor that could caught up on air pressure. Lesson here is always keep that pin lubed with grease prior to install. I figured the hubs would be the issue, but the right side came off with relative ease with a puller. Left side will be next. (I had been spraying them down as well). I picked up a couple plows yesterday in a haul. They appear to be a 9” and 6”, both with modified draw bars. Neither will fit a Wheelhorse at the moment, but I think they will eventually!

Ok its been forever sense I’ve posted anything. I’m going to junk the deck. I found one in just a little better shape. And I just picked up these rims from Denny. What a guy.

Caz, considering what you added about you and your wife having good pensions, continued insurance, and investments, there is no reason why you shouldn't take it now. For you it will just be bonus money. In my case, I was self-employed and have no pension. Living off investments would not last long. Social Security was and still is my primary income. I needed to start taking it at age 62.

Within model years (numbers), spindles & pulleys are same. Older decks have 3/4" spindle shaft with keyway for top pulley....later models have 5/8" shaft without keyway. the 4-bolt mountings are the same across many years of 3-spindle decks.

Use a Goldwing motor. It would prolly fit better. Ian used a a Silverwing motor on a project. If you use the Harley motor you will have to use Loctite and lockwashers on every nut and bolt.

When I retired at 62 I took my SS and have not looked back I am now 72. The one thing that I did not know was my wife also get $800.00 a month because she never worked long enough to draw SS on her own. It did not change the amount that I received and when I die she will get my amount and lose the amount she is getting. Check it out. But if she did work she would draw on herself.

The knuckle head that own the El Camino before I got it decided to transport a riding mower with the tail gate down , no tie downs and left in neutral. Wondered why the mower fell out in the middle of the street and bend the hell out of the inside of the tail gate. My son always me why I used so many straps and rope on any load I move. I seen too many accidents caused by people not securing their loads.

I had a '67 C 20 named "Irma" many many moons ago. Used to kid people that I couldn't go around a corner too fast for fear of rolling the cab off the frame. Then again the only thing holding the cab to the frame was the steering column. She was a rust bucket but I do miss that truck.

One thing with our Social security plan to be aware of is that the monthly payment for Medicare is deducted from your Social Security payment. The premium is $144.60 per month in 2020. An example would be that if you use the SS calculator and it says that you would get $2,000.00 per month, Medicare will take $144.60 leaving you with only $1,855.40.

When I became 62, I requested several weeks of unpaid time off and was denied by my company. I really enjoyed the work I was doing and wanted to continue working in the Hydro Turbine Industry, but I needed more free time to enjoy my family and my passion for hunting and fishing. My company monthly pension had previously been locked when the company switched to a 401K pension system. So, I retired at 62, took my monthly pension, and continued to work for the same company as a consulting contractor and was able to set my own hours for the next 5 years. I did NOT take my SS for several reasons. As I planned to continue working, my SS would have been reduced when I exceeded the maximum income allowed every year. This max. increases every year. When I retired at 62, based on the national bureau of statistics, I was expected to die at age 77. This was the basis for my monthly SS payments. Knowing exactly the total amount of money I paid into the SS system and knowing the monthly payment I would receive if I took my SS at age 62 or 65, or 70, If I did die at age 77 as expected, the total amount that I would receive would be within $100 of the total amount I paid in to the system. So, if you die when expected, it does not matter when you start SS as you receive the same total amount. If you live longer than expected, it is best to take SS later as the payment for those extra months will be greater. If you die before expected, it is best to take SS earlier as the monthly payments you lose will be less. The other item to factor in is health insurance. My company health insurance ended when I retired at 62. Under the COBRA bill, I was able to purchase the same group plan that that my company had while I was working. Of course the COBRA ended before I reached 65 and I had to purchase expensive insurance for another 18 months. There is a very inexpensive SHORT TERM INSURANCE that that is limited to 6 months. Three months before my 65th birthday, I did apply for SS and medicare on line. It was a simple process and it was critical that medicare started the month after my 65thbirthday as that is when my expensive private insurance policy ended. Someone dropped the ball in transferring my online application to the local SS office, and It became a bit of a nightmare to get it straightened out and get my medicare in place before my private insurance ended. I did manage to make it happen on the last day. Each persons situation is different, and you have to look at all the options and take your chances. If I live 7 more months , I will make money by taking SS later. Good Luck!

My wife and I both retired when we were 61 and started drawing SS at 62. We were blessed with good health, financial security (no bills) and continuing to work just didn't seem like a fun thing to do. The freedom to be with our parents during their final years and the ability to travel while we were able to enjoy it was well worth the reduction on monthly checks. Bob's @rmaynard point about putting off retirement is sound from an actuarial point of view, but for us it was more of a lifestyle and mental health decision. We both had demanding jobs that paid well but drained us emotionally. The biggest drawback if you plan to continue working is that SS will reduce your payments until you reach full retirement age. It's a crapshoot. You can take it at 62 and die at 65. Or plan on 67 and die at 65. I'd rather get a little as opposed to nothing. My line of work has beat the hell out of me. The last 7 years I've had a shoulder, back and 2 knees operated on as well as a heart attack. I'm ready.

Here the battery cables were backwards.... positive grounded. Swapped them around and she fired right up! Good thing for RS classifieds or he might have scrapped it! Seriously paid a buck for it!
