17 pointsJust so my tractors don't feel to neglected, with what's going on, I decided to have a little photoshoot on the green. '78 C-121 (The Black Horse) '82 C-125 '79 C-81. '78 Sears/Roper

14 pointsNot even sure what a new set of Tie Rods goes for, but I like the idea of using Heim Joints for them. these cost me about $45 plus some time at work to make the shafts. I thought of making them "turnbuckle" style but I don't have a left hand tap a sharp eye might notice it took me a couple tries to get the shaft length I wanted. lol

14 pointsHey Jay, @roadapples, I just saw this pic of you shopping at Wally World. I knew that horse head would come in handy sometime!

7 pointsWanted to move the C-160 around in the shed as I was spending my C19 quarantine finishing up building out the interior of my shed, workbench, shelves etc. So in the summer when we moved it fired right up and even with mostly flat tires we got it into the shed. So I was thinking, "should fire right up and I can just move it out of the way make building easier"........Throttle up, Choke up, E-Brake all the way up, reach my left foot around to depress the brake and "magic button".......seat hinge still needs to be done so no sitting..........crank it over once....nothing. I went to crank it again......not a sound but a puff of smoke from the left side, like the battery gave up the ghost......crap. For giggles I wiggled the battery connection.....cranked again and confirmed there was just a loose connection, cool solved that mystery. Crank again.......nothing. OK. I pull the plug wire, secure it back in place because "why not". Checked the fuel lines, made sure fuel was on....... I checked everything I could think of in the moment. Won't start. I went through my mental check list again, air....filter isn't THAT dirty. Battery is strong. Starter sounds strong as ever. Spark plug should be fine. Huh.....left the shed and then as it was getting dark..... Wait.....grabbed the flashlight.......and confirmed what you all have suspected if you read this far........gas. I am fairly certain filling it with gas will help this whole starting situation immensely. I here these here Wheel Horses tend to run better when they actually have gas in them...... Yup I am a dipstick......

7 pointsWanted to share a few pics from yesterday . The club president and I were the only ones out early to start trailwork . Jim is in his late 60's and I hope I'm in at least as good of shape as he is when I'm his age . He was still ready for more at 3 PM and I was aching and pooped !

6 pointsAwesome job on those!! I recently redid a set. I used the original tie rods, cut the ball end off, turned the ends down to 3/8" and threaded them at 24 pitch. If the ends ever need to be replaced again I think that I will use Heim joints like you did.
-
6 pointsRiver19: I like you have done so many things like this. Luckily I am old and can`t remember them. I guess age has it`s privilege's. Enjoy the tractor.

6 pointsI thought I was doing good reading all of these saying to myself nope, nope , nope never done that either until I read @squonk 's Hedge trimmer, and I can tell you exactly where I was when that happend hoping my neighbor wasn't watching me when I pulled that bonehead move.

5 pointsICE, LOTS OF ICE! I've had my share of falls over the years, now my balance is so bad that I have to watch every step. If I had been that careful when I was young I probably wouldn't have these problems now.

5 pointsCould there be a piece of trash in the tank that can't get past a partly open valve but would clog a full open valve? May want to pull the tank and dump it into a clean container for inspection. Good luck. Watch the grass grow, contemplate the potential fixes, Pray, fish some more and the answer will come to you.

5 pointsSo I'm going through some parts in my shed and came across a couple of oil pans for a big block kohler. Looking at the bottom they did not have those extra holes to mount from the bottom side on the right side. So I mounted it on a frame and marked the holes from the bottom side. Then l drilled a 5/16 hole and tapped to a 3/8 bolt. Lots of oil and slow go and now l have a usable oil pan.

5 pointsForget the furnace and take care of yourself. Get your friends over and let them move the furnace for you. Good luck and take care of yourself.
-
5 pointsI wold think to my second option, release the fueltank and clean it completeley. could be something that was in a fuel canister go into fueltank while refilling that clogs your fuelline while driving.
-
5 pointsTerry: It was usually the coil was shot when I had this issue but check that gas tank cap also!

4 pointsHey all!! Its been quite some time since I’ve been able catch my breath, let alone get on here long enough to post anything. Ive been extremely busy at work since the holiday season. (Big Box Distribution Center). Especially with everything going on currently, we’ve been working overtime and pushing production like crazy to restock the stores we service. I have, in a matter of months, worked my self to a merit position that is essentially an assistant managers position. Personally, life has been just as hectic. My wife’s grandmother moved in with us a few weeks ago, right before the COVID 19 really hit here in the states. She’s the one that had a stroke, and there have been several other incidents that have left her unable to live alone. Today, her sister and roommate for 15 years, passed away, as she had been having health issues as well and was hospitalized herself. My grandmother had a heart attack several weeks ago that led to the discovery of four major blockages, none less than 88%. She is (thank goodness) currently home and still “Fat and sassy”. But, things have been stressful to say the least. We found out Sunday that there was another employee in the warehouse that had tested positive. I called in last night to kinda weigh my options, as I now have two elderly, susceptible people, as well as two toddlers, in my house. A coworker texted me and told me that last night (I work 6p-6a) they were told two more had been quarantined. So, today I took a 30 day unpaid leave of absence! I’m not going to be responsible for killing my father in law or my grandmother in law. In an attempt to keep things light hearted and happy around here, I’m treating it as a vacation. Might as well right!? Haha. The man cub has expressed interest in working on the tractors, so this week sometime I think we might attempt to tackle the rewiring of the Charger that I abandoned in the fall. I also started another project with the neighbor using my grandpas old Snapper. We’re going to make it into a one man Mule/Dunebuggy mobile. This is something that’s going to be long and slow, as the plan is to salvage and repurpose as much as possible. We’ve already stripped it down and gutted it for the most part, so now we HAVE to do something with it. For the next month or so, I should be around more. I’ve missed having the time to just sit and read and interact with you all, but I’m looking forward to hearing from you guys on my “vacation”. Here’s some pics of where we’re at on the Snapper (NTBD) project. we’re going to extend it out the back a bit, simply for a bit of storage. The plan is to use 40mm ammo cans as fender tool boxes. Haven’t decided how to power it yet, but was thinking about going with a chain driven set up for simplicity. We’d like to keep the handle bars and throw a twist throttle on it. Of course this could all change over the course of the build 🤷🏻♂️😂 @ebinmaine @pullstart

4 pointsAbout 10 yrs ago I bought a local WH dealer's complete stock of WH NOS Parts. Unique buy, especially here in East Texas. My Dad used to get his parts there back in late 1960's up to about 1984. Had some extra time, like a lot of us do these days, and went through a WH box I had and located a large stack of Microfiche I had forgetten about. No Microfiche reader, but interesting reading the titles of the fiche. Have a lead on a Reader, hope to get it next week. They appear to be in excellent shape, I had put them safely away in my upstairs office space. I tried to capture some of the titles in the pic. Wasn't sure how common a set of microfiche would be. Consider it a blast from the past WH history lesson for the day. Stay Safe, Gunny

4 pointsWhat did the cat ever do to you? Well , guess you could let it idle for 14 hours and then rebuild it. Kohler did make a rebuild kit with new bearings for the balance gears. I guess you could try to find one of the kits or source some bearings that will fit. The older Kohlers didn't have any balance gears and would run forever so I'm not too sure they were needed. Your engine, your decision, just don't throw them at the cat!

4 pointsKev, I don't know if you are just clumsy or darned unlucky.Hope you are okay.I fall down all the time but thats age, meds or libations. When all three kick in it's quite a sight.Take care.

4 pointsMy 312-H has a carb issue so I got the little 857 out of storage and brought to lake to mow. Runs and cuts great for about 30 minutes then dies. Let it cool for about 30 minutes and it's back to work for about 20 more minutes. Thinking a new coil and or condenser?

4 pointsEb today steering the machine is not a problem, but none of us are getting any younger. And also we don't know what tomorrow will bring, I used to think like you and now with a partially disabilled arm and coming up on 68 years young I find myself not able to do things I wish to do. Plan for the future with project and then enjoy for a lot longer. Just sayin

4 pointsI can’t tell y’all how good this is, what a feeling! I need to get that kid out here to help prep the frame, so we can start assembly!

4 pointsI don't consider these to e bone-head moves. I consider these little Faux-Pas to be learning experiences. If that is true I should have a PHD by now.
-
4 pointsI've never cut all the way through a cord but I've nicked them a time or 2. That was a great reason for me to get cordless stuff when they came on the market.

4 pointsCome on Jeff...now you are forcing my hand. I have that beastly Cat O tiller for Zach’s Blackbeard (GT-14) all I need is the correct double pulley for it and we can do some serious tilling here as well. I have a double pulley with splined shaft—not correct. I have had offers of the second type—not correct. So, we will keep on a search for what we need. In the meantime, that garden plow is turning out amazing and looks like you were having a blast. Did you have to use the lights at all?

4 pointsIf the crane had a long lever on the back of it, with a few foot straps, she could pull the wood into position instead of lifting it... Or one of these, log sized.
-
4 points@River19 I want you to know that I was going to set up a post and you just kind of happened to beat me to it. I wanted to use my sawzall. Electric sawzall. Put the piece I wanted to cut in the vice. Confirmed I had the right blade in the sawzall. Set myself where I wanted to cut the piece. Pulled the trigger of said sawzall. Nothing. It took me a few trigger pulls and some empuzzlement. Yes that's a word. I made it up. Then I realized I had not plugged the damn thing in.

3 pointsMan, take care of yourself! People are bound to be injured throughout their lives, but yours are happening far too close together! Hope you're OK! Should we go ahead and order you a life alert button?

3 pointsI keep telling her what I learned in high school shop class Stefan! ”If you come to tell me that your safety glasses were run over, I’m going to ask why your head didn’t get run over too!” i heard that every day

3 pointsI've had my C165-8 for twenty-five years now and wouldn't trade or sell it for anything. All the attachments you have for you 520, I also have for my C165 and none of them have ever made her break a sweat. Five years ago I took the gear reduction steering and gauge set from a 520 and installed them on my C165 so I have the best of both worlds. So my vote would be any Wheel Horse with the 16 HP single followed by the 14 and 12 singles.
-
3 pointsNah , It looks like ethe engines were bolted directly to the footers after I looked at some older pics .
-
3 pointsAt the brake band there's a 3/8 threaded rod with a nut (9/16) to adjust the brake band tension. Backing it off allows the idler pulley which tensions the belt to move down a little more to slack more belt. There's a fine line on adjusting it properly. The belt guard needs to be on the tractor to guide the belt or it will not slack properly. The engine pulley groove must be clean and smooth. No, you can not lock the differential.

3 points@WHX24 Jim does this look any better, when I got home this evening I broadcast about 20 lbs of pelletized lime and same amount of 10-10-10 (could find any I mentioned above) then spent a few hours tilling it in with the 315-8 low range 1st gear (seat time)... @PeacemakerJack @ebinmaine @pullstart @JCM ,notice something in the sky in the last pic I'll call it "tillin' by the full moon light" ...

3 pointsI rewired my 16 Auto, and to do that, of course I removed the gas tank. Once the wiring was done, I put everything back together. Turned the key and it cranked great. But it wouldn't start . Went thru the wiring a couple different times to be sure, still no start. Made sure I had turned the gas petcock on, when it dawned on me. Didn't fill the tank
