9 pointsJust some old oil/shop chemical containers. Thought some of you folks would get a kick out if them...

9 pointsAnother work of art. Maybe we should start a " Talented Artists Club". I nominate; @formariz @wallfish @953 nut @19richie66 @TIGman I know there are many other RS members that deserve recognition for their talents in body work, painting, restoration, etc. Thank you all for sharing your works of art.

8 pointsit is my duty as a member of this forum to encourage you to keep both consider it your civic / red square duty ... good for red square and good for the country ... lol

8 pointsThank you for the kind words is not really the best way to express my gratitude for having my work be so appreciated, however I am at a loss on what to say. I am merely another page in a thick book written by so many others which gave me the opportunity directly or indirectly to admire their work and knowledge and learn from it. I have just been lucky in life also that my profession is not only my livelihood but also my hobby and my passion. Opportunity has not been only in woodworking but also in other areas such as the subjects of this forum which exposed me to a new hobby and passion which I never thought of many years ago. The willingness to share knowledge and ideas by the members here along with also with their real life wisdom and generosity has become a big part of who I am. "Artist" in my opinion is a rather subjective word or title. I think of it more as someone who creates , constantly evolves and expresses their feelings through their work or actions as a result of their interactions with others thorough out life. With that I can safely say that there are countless artists here in this forum reflected not only on physical creations but more importantly on their actions and deeds toward others.

8 pointsHope you don't mind Eric....here are a few things on my walls that you may find interesting.

7 points@JCM I wish I could weld that good. My son is the one who welds them. I cut, fit and then watch in awe as he stitches them together. My father gave him a 1973 Bronco for his High school graduation gift. My dad passed later that year so we really got into wanting to fix up the bronco. The further we got into it, the worse it was. He didn’t have the funds at the time to do it right Or a place to store it out of the elements so he made the decision to sell it and use the money to go to welding school. I told him every bead he lays down, part of his grandfather is in it. He has taken it and ran with it. I’m very proud of him. Now if I could just pick up on it myself.

7 pointsI have one I played once. Played it on a co-worker his name was Al. This was back before cell phones. I was much younger and he was much older then I. He was from Italy and had a heavy Italian accent. He went out for lunch and when he came back I handed him a slip of paper with a name and phone number on it. Told him this guy called for him while he was out. He looked at the name and number and said " oh I know this is the ChemLawn guy" . He called the number and asked for Mr. Lyons. The number was for our local Zoo and the conversation went like this. Zoo - " Hello, Seneca Park Zoo" AL- " May I speak to Mr Lyons please " Zoo - " Sir, I think someone is playing a joke on you" Al - " I know " Then he hung up the phone. Then he started chasing me around the shop... I was laughing to hard to run very far.

5 pointsOne of the things that we're going to be doing this year is adding a fence that surrounds the backyard and the workshop shed. It will make it so we have the ability to just open the back door and let the dog out without having to hitch her to the cable. Meeha/Mirror has an EXTREMELY high prey drive (and other issues) and can't be loose. The fence will give her the freedom to run around and act a little bit like a dog for a few minutes. Trina or I will be able to run around with her and not have concerns about the limitations of the cable and the area that she can move. In the pictures below you can see that Trina took a couple pieces of hemlock and stood them up as posts. She dug into the ground with a hand post hole digger about 15" or so. She took the electric chainsaw and shaved and notched the posts so as to drive them into the ground using the SIXTEEN POUND sledge hammer. Imagine a little her swinging that big hammer..... First time she had ever attempted to make a split rail fence. I'd say she done all right.... The plan is to keep going each direction and come back and meet the house building. They'll be at least a couple of gates that we can get tractors or us through. The whole thing will be surrounded by wire fencing probably 4 ft tall. This picture shows part of the backyard area that we've been clearing and the position of where she started to build the fence. The shed is to the left and the house is diagonally behind me on the right. Notching for the rails

4 pointsI’m at crossroad now and I need to choose between selling my 520-8 or 160-8. Both have been taken down to the frame and restored. The 160 engine has been rebuilt and the 520 has had a valve job, decarbed and had the wiring updated with the 9 pin connector upgraded and replaced. The 520 has a wheel horse electric lift. Both are outstanding tractors. The 520 has been power coated. Both have rear Clevis hitch’s and new tires. Which one would you keep?
-
4 pointsShe says "That's very nice. I'm honored to be in their group." Very kind of you Richard. And well deserved by her. I twist bolts and build a wiring harness here and there. She's clearly the "artist" around here.

4 pointsWOW! a ton of work in those machines, to much to let go. If it was me...... I would get rid of the wife's car and keep them both!

4 pointsNice fence! It does help having a fenced area where you can just let the dog run... Just curious - Does Trina ever get the chance to snap a photograph of you working...?
-
4 pointsI hope you do have good boots, seeing what your about knee high in

4 pointsI hate to admit my age but can remember when my car used a 6 volt battery., a generator, vacuum wipers and the whole car was made from metal.. Had 6.50 x 15 biased tires, when radials came out you thought you died and went to heaven they rode so smooth and gripped the highway like a tigers paw..
-
4 pointsAbsolutely...I remember my 93 year old dad showing us how you punched it through the can and then shimmied it side to side to curl the can top down until the spout hit the rim just right... and it still leaked!!! As dad always told us five kids: “I taught you everything I know, and you still don’t know anything...!” - come to think of it he still says that...! Cool collection of old stuff!

4 pointsAbsolutely not The cardboard in the sandwich is a good one! If my wife ate sandwiches I'd pull that one on her tomorrow! Did the sink sprayer thing for years or adjusting the shower head to get her when the knob is pulled. Baby powder in the hair dryer was another favorite which worked every time. Check this out. 3 pointsI was the victim of a dastardly plot or two myself over the years. I spent an entire night shift in the morgue after being told to wait for a person to come and ID a body. "Do not use your radio in the hospital and the switchboard is off so you cant phone out, just wait" was the instruction. And wait I did, locked in with a dozen dead folk as company. Day shift collected me and I was the butt of jokes for a good while. I got done by an oldie but a goodie, played on new starters. "Its a flag day today, be in the reception at 8AM sharp in best uniform and white gloves to hoist the union flag". I was told at briefing. One of the old hands said font worry, it's a responsible job but I'll talk you through it. At 8am I collected the flag, marched smartly to the flag pole in front of the nick and tied her on to the toggle. I saluted, hoisted the flag, saluted again, about turned to face the nick and saw every staff member crowding the windows and laughing. I about turned and marched off down the road until snap time forced me back to the cop shop where I was teased relentlessly. Mick

3 pointsAnother one you can try at home. Empty out a couple capsules of Tylenol and fill them with Kool-Aid powder. The potent stuff, not with added sugar and red works the best. Take off the shower head and place those loaded capsules inside, replace the shower head. During the next shower the color will confuse the crap out of them because of the nice delay in release. Making strange noises and or moving stuff with 2 lb fishing line really has a great effect for pulling pranks too. Haunt your own house! Do it along with capsule trick above like it was blood coming out of the shower and she'll want to move out! Might be a good idea to wear a cup when coming clean on this one!

3 pointsYeah. Lucky is right. That particular section of forest has a good deep base and even at that she was only able to go 14, 15 inches down. Most of what we try to dig is going to be more like you experienced. We know from past excavation projects that our soil is roughly 50% rocks. Mostly between baseball sized and up to about four or five foot diameter. Wherever she can't dig down she will use those exact rocks to hold the post in place.

3 pointsHumbled to be included with any of these guys. I just enjoy making things.

3 pointsI'm stuck at work. They did make a metal deflector for the 42 RD deck. I have one on a deck I got one time. others will chime in with part numbers, years produced, the friend at WH who made them etc. others fabbed out rubber versions made out of TSC horse mats etc. the metal OEM one is a one piece thin metal that bolts in the back of the deck. it flares downwards at both ends and the middle section shoots straight back. it is about 5 inches wide or so. one could get a pictures and create their own out of sheet metal etc.

3 pointsBcgold: Yup, the things I don't miss - my 1st car had 4 wheel drum brakes with no self adjuster mechanism, ignition points, carburetor with a finicky choke, vacuum wipers, no backup lights, and a 12 volt generator. Every 5 thousand miles or so, you had to adjust the brakes and the points. As for the vacuum wipers, as they say, they suck. The real annoying item was the pair of nylon cord snow tires the previous owner threw in when I bought it - they would get pretty large flat spots on the tread from sitting overnight - they rode like Flintstone tires for about 5 miles until they heated up. 3 pointsHappy Anniversary rmaynard It was 47 years ago today that the wife and I got married. That's no joke. We are still going strong. My brother was not to be outdone so he got married on Friday the 13th and they are still together.
-
3 pointsAnybody remember the Monkey Grip Hot Patches and spider looking clamp mounted on the garage wall. Filed the tube around the hole clamped the patch down and set it on fire.
-
3 pointsMy fav was the card board containers with the metal top & bottom. Try to puncture the can with the spout and end up having the card board can crush or buckle on you. Course I was pretty young when these were in use so maybe I was doing it wrong.
-
3 pointsI'm gonna post theae even though it's Wednesday of the next month. Hope that's ok.

3 pointsOnce put motor oil in the little hotel shampoo bottles at the hotel. It was a coworker that time not the wife. He was mia for a long while (obviously trying to wash it out) and then finally showed up with his hair still flat as a pancake! Dam that was funny! He looked like Alfalfa without the spike. We were all going out to hit the town too, up in Niagra Falls.
-
3 pointsFinally got the chance to start reassembling Big Red. Here are a couple of pics as of just a little while ago. Gonna quit for the day now. The metal has a pretty good texture to it from its life outdoors. I thought about filling in the pits, but feel like that would be trying to make the tractor something it isn’t-better to let it be just honest!
-
3 pointsNot a big deal. I typically grease the bearing anytime I change the belt. Usually going from mower to snowblower. So a minimum of twice a year. You our just need a light film. Too much and it'll run out onto the clutch disc and create new problems. make sure you grease everything else on the tractor a few times a year. Grease is cheap. Repairs stink.
-
2 pointsIt appears to be a Frankenhorse. The interchangeability of parts from model to model and year to year makes it hard to nail down what it began life as. I am inclined to think it was built in the 1965 or 1966 or so time period. The seat is of that time period as are the foot rests. That being said you could bolt those parts on too so who knows. At any rate, it looks like a good project and when it is finished you can name it whatever you want!

2 pointsThat's a tough catch.... 520 - 8 with a forward-leaning front axle and electric lift.... Most of you are well aware of my liking for the B and C series but I probably would have to lean towards the 520 if it was going to be a worker.
-
2 pointsI'be got a 12 pound sledge hammer. Last time I tried using it to split wood, I could barely control it. Went back to the 8 pound hammer. My hat is off to Treina for her ability to use the 16 pound hammer.
-
2 pointsSpent some time making up the reinforcement pieces for the front axle pin. Here's some pics. Clamped a piece of scrap 3/8" plate to a frame for sizing. @wallfish I put a band saw to use again. Drilled the holes and ground all the edges The cutting oil I use when drilling. This is a can my grandfather had about 3 weeks longer than dirt ago. Bonus dog pic!!!!

2 pointsPlayed one on my wife's bgf who is pretty gullible anyway. Texted her that Cindy has Coronas... stay away. After I had her all worked up I says it's even worse.... only one left... APRILS FOOL! I really wasn't lying. Cruel I know but I've done worse to this gal... I was gonna start a thread about having to sell all my tractors but you are way to sharp! Sides didn't wanna give myself bad karma about selling...

2 pointsWe all have to have our first rodeo, we either quit or learn and keep on keep'n on. Most of us never make 8 but we get better at it Hay, let's be careful out there, stay safe.

2 pointsHad a chance to start all the horses today. The ones that have been setup for snow duty haven't been run in weeks. Then the Commandos haven't been run since last fall. Only one groaned a bit about starting but did finally take off and run smoothly. And now we're getting pea-sized hail, a very interesting day its been. Rain to begin the day and windy. Then the sun came out but wind became stronger gusting up to 40mph and it got close to 60 degrees. And now the rain and hail. Upstate NY in the Spring and the end of March
