Picked her up tonight on my, new to me, 16' car hauler..pics tomorrow. Talked the seller down for minor issues.1) throttle lever loose, 2) old tires 3) parking brake not working 4)seat interlock bypassed 5) play in steering - thank you forum members for your great advice. The future plans, as with all my projects, is to restore/refurb/clean up to close to new condition and to cherish this well loved classic. In case you did not catch this - I love my, made in between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, analog technology!

Well first off I found this 1055 online for a hundred bucks. So I definitely had to get it. The tractor set for years in a barn. But the motors free good compression and everything solid. Came with a crazy seat, but a really nice extra option! So this one will be on the chopping block to be restored along with a few others. Over the last year I've been collecting everything to do the projects I have. so once I start in I can keep going on them. I'm currently waiting on a few more parts. But as far as everything for me I haven't been on here as much last year due to a move and getting adjusted and things set up and taking care of some nerve and back issues. The last three years been up and down for health-wise with nerve conditions and back problems. But as of now the doctors giving me the clean right off to start going back on my hobbies. As long as I take it easy if I feel the need. So over all things are on the up and hopefully within the next couple weeks. I'll start getting some updates in the restoration section on these tractors i have acquired. And with all that being done now, I should most definitely be able to be at the big show this year!!! But here's a pic of the new one cuz we all know that's what's most important!

I’m wondering, how many Wheel Horse junkies (aficionados) grew up with an Erector Set as a childhood toy? I received mine in 1959. Over the years I tore it apart building all sorts of things. Today all that is left is the box and a few parts. But the experience stuck with me my whole life. For Christmas this year, we gave our grandson the same set I received in 1959, only this one is in mint condition. There are no plastics, glues, transistors, computers, or snap fittings - just the most basic mechanical stuff and a noisy electric gear reduction motor. Seems to fit well with an interest in old tractors and basic mechanics - how things work. Anyone else have a similar childhood toy?

Hey Eric. Watch what you say about that beautiful seat. I had an 856 with a similar one. Actually very comfortable.

Not sure which section this goes in, so I'll put it here. I thought I remembered seeing a WH memorabilia section somewhere, but if there is it eludes me today. I'm sure it will get moved where it needs to go. Anyway, found this sign in east Texas and was thinking about getting it if it's still available when I'm down there in a few weeks. Asking price is $125 and is about 3'x6'. It has some obvious damage. I know signs can be big money, but that seems a little steep. Anyone know what it's worth? And I'm not in love with it, so if you're interested in it let me know and I'll try to get you the info for the seller.

So a few weeks back I had a weird thought. As a Denver Broncos fan, and Wheel Horse fanatic I wondered what the logo's would look like mashed up. So the next day at work I brought the idea up to my companies marketing director, and C-165 owner @lzone3 We talked about the finer points of it, we laughed about it, and then I went on with my day. Cue walking into work this morning to find these in my inbox. I present to you all, the Denver Wheel Horses. While I like the all red option, I think my favorite is the second one down, the black with red outline just pops.

I cleared my driveway with my 418-A that has a 42" blade. It was dark, so I didn't take any pics. Probably a little overkill for what we got, but I haven't used any snow removal equipment all winter since it's been so mild here so far. Looks like there is more to come this weekend.

What’s wrong with this thread? Gotta keep the ugly going! A buddy found me a nice 856 yesterday that’s been really neglected. It’ll be a few weeks before he’s able to bring it back home, but when it gets here, I might have to share the seat or lack there of with you gents! My butt gets sore just looking at the pics he sent me!

We ended up getting about 4” on Sunday into Monday. Kelli and Zach helped me clear out the job site to get ready for trusses. I used my CubKub to move the driveway snow. I hate ice when it is on my vehicle and in my drive...and especially on the road and power lines... looks like we could get more snow this weekend... Andy—nice looking duo there!

Growing up poor we got fruit and nuts as presents and clothes at Christmas. We played with rock and sticks that were make believe tanks , Army men , and rifles. If we got a toy it was either taken apart or broke by bed time.

but I at loss to figure out why you couldn't have rebuilt the old motor???... plenty of parts available. End decision is do you want to stay orginal. Staying orginal is important to me unless building a custom or franken horse so I would swap to stay orginal... IMHO... BTW the 854 is a favored tractor here and every member should have one or three.... along with a 753, a 857, a 702... !

When I think of Wheel Horse.... I think of Wheel Horse Tractors. I seen this Wheel Horse Zero Turn on CL the other day, looks pre Toro Era.

A while back I posted a photo of some front weight that I added to my 312-8. After buying my welder welded them to an extra mule drive that I removed the pulleys from. Simple removal and the 76 pounds stops the wheelie action.

Well luckily for you I can help you out with your health problems Chris...Dr. WHX prescribes buy two more horses and call me in the morning. .. Did you not see my thread where I was forced by gun point into buying two 100 dollar 1055's just to get one out of them? I can't find the thread now dammit but here's what it ended up like...forgive me father for I have sinned... I just could not give up the patined seat! BTW if those HL's are what we think they are you done rrrreeell good!

Not sure what you have set up for stripping (paint), but an E-tank is simply the way to go! A little water, a little washing soda, an anode and a battery charger (add battery if said charger is “smart”) and you’ll be cooking down to bare steel in no time, with almost no work!

Yes they actually did Make a Backhoe(It Might have actually been Wagner) weather it was a good Idea or not. Some people actually bought them. I didn't say it was On Cad Plans. Somebody mentioned a 1 Arm Loader on the offset design and I remember as a Child a neighboring Farmer had a Backhoe on His offset Farmall Cub off the front. But the 1 arm Loader has been around a very long time. Long before CAD Plans started producing kit Plans. I have seen a few of the CAD Plans 1 arm loaders In Person at shows There fine for these small Garden tractors as long as the Have enough Ballast on the opposite side it seems. If I didn't have 3 traditional Loaders already I would consider the design to be used on my old IH Cub Cadet 106 Because I Like odd Ball attachments weather it's Practical I could care less. It would be fine for mulch & snow removal and as we see modern manufacturers still use the 1 arm Loader design In certain applications where it seems to be practical on a skid steer or track loader. I wouldn't say JCB's design is flawed. But Loader's In general are limited On Garden tractors anyways The Kwik-way Loader for Most Wheel Horses were Limited at 350Lbs anyways Though they can pick up a Bit More. The Kwik-way On My 1999 White GT2055 Can Pick up about 475lbs just fine. But the lack of Power steering On the Tractors Makes it a bit hard to turn with over 350lbs at 36inches high

What you need for traction it's going to vary depending on what you have for surface. if all of your work is on asphalt that you want to keep in decent shape you should get some rubber chains. Otherwise, 2 link type metal chains are the answer. I would recommend fluid filled tires to anyone. I also recommend as much weight as possible. Irregardless of surface. 8 or even less horsepower is plenty to plow with. Traction is all about down pressure in pounds per square inch plus creating friction.

I doubt that you will get deep enough with what you are making. Bite the bullet and just go rent a small, walk behind trencher and be done with it. Use your horse to back fill the trench. I have years of trenching experience with Ma-Bell...trust me.

I had multiple Tinker Toy and Lego sets I had since I was 4-5 years old and as soon as I learned how to use a screwdriver I took apart EVERYTHING I could get my hands on. When I was ten my dad's work retired their mower and was given to me. That's how I got my first Wheel Horse, my C165. Shortly after my dad had to buy me my own tool set to keep me out of his Craftsman set that my grandfather had given to him. Now my little garage is filled with Craftsman tools, Wheel Horses, and Fords.

The first 48" deck that Wheel Horse produced was in 1963 and was on a 953 which has a 9.6 HP Kohler. I have mowed a bunch of grass with that set up and had no problems. If your 14 HP won't handle a 48" deck it may be time to sharpen the blades or give the engine a tune-up.
  31. 3 points
When I encountered tall (above 8") grass I lift the deck ALL the way up to the tractor frame (transport mode) Then mow then repeat on the highest setting on the gauge wheels and so on until I get the desired height... You just can't go at it even with brand new sharp blades with the deck down JMO and experiences.

This video will likely be nothing new to most all of you, but I thought I’d put one up anyways.

That is one classic pic dude and would be on my wall in a prominent place in a custom frame were that my Ma/Pa. Gotta love wher his hand is on the throttle ready to go and stogie hangin! My guess is a 753 but possibly a 702? Breed of horse no matter just a pic that should be hung in your house somewhere! Geez your a regular rocket scientist for coming up with that 'Fish! ..oh balls now he is gonna call me goofey for coming up with that!

For those who didnt catch the other restoration thread- this is my first red tractor, and first tractor restoration. I did not go TOO crazy, as this baby is going to get used as it should. Attempted to make it look like an older horse, and tried a little mild patina as well. BIG THANK YOU to you folks here who helped me along, especially when it came to research and mods to keep that big Onan cool down here in the south. It now has an oil filter relocation, belt guard vent, and blocked off air intake tube in the shroud. This was a lot of fun, and have a feeling it wont be my last Horse in the stable. How did I do for a tractor noob?

Here is my new tractor, my dad , whose 75 years old, has one but his is a 1988, this one is a 93, both 310-8s My 93 has 700 hrs and seems to be in great shape. Bought it with two nice mower decks and a orginal 42 inch snow plow. Just bought some wheel weights from Amazon and found a nice dump car.

Acres and acres of stuff at this swap meet but only saw a few horses. Here’s some pics of some of the odd stuff I saw.

I admit I have thought of snowblowers at times, but I imagine the crawl speed would be painful when you’re used to 20-ish mph speeds in parking lots!

Not much of an 'implement' but works well is my mole killer. It's a metal flexible 1 1/4" pipe that I slip on my exhaust pipe and stick the other end in the ground. Pour a little Sea Foam in the carb a couple of times really helps too.

I enjoy seeing the signs in people’s shops, but for the price I see most the way to another tractor instead That’s just me. If it were a present though, I’d gladly hang it up!

Now you got me started Jim. We enjoyed the Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs, and Erector Sets. I also spent many cold evenings playing the Uncle Wiggly board game that I still have today and was played by my sons and grandsons. We also shared toys. One of my friends ,Rusty Moore, had a pretty elaborate Gilbert Chemistry Lab in his attic. We learned a little about chemistry and a lot about fire fighting techniques . We were lucky enough to have one of the only TVs in town and during the crucial World Series games, the kids and some parents gathered at our house glued to the 8" TV screen.

At my house we have NO CABLE. NO INTERNET. I do own a television but it is literally my big screen for the PC when I rarely use it and we turn it on once a month or even less to watch a DVD movie. IMHO that's how ALL children should be brought up until they NEED internet for school.

Ok fellas, Ill work on that. After taking these pics I took a little shakedown trail ride, down behind my shop, past my deer hunting stands, found a nice steep, loose dirt hill to see how these tires and 18 total gallons of washer fluid ballast worked. It was incredible! Took it back to the shop, hosed it off. .......then got a wild hair in my rear. Home is a little over a mile from the shop. Yeah, I did........ then toured the neighborhood, took it to watch some football at our friends place, and back to the shop about 9pm. Never has so much fun going so slow!

I'm going to show my age, and say that I had an Erector set in the late 40's, after I graduated from Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs. I had a small Erector Set because we didn't have much money, but a school friend had a bigger set, complete with motors and everything. We often went to his house after school (second grade) and built things for hours. Obviously, I still enjoy playing with mechanical things, just bigger ones. Jim

Yep, these’ll do. They are 27x8-15’s measuring just about 26-1/2” tall... overall width about 11-3/8”. For comparison, the GT tires are 22.5x7.5-12.
