9 pointsWhat was forecast to be a 3/4" accumulation on grassy surfaces looks like it may add up to our first plowable snow.
-
9 pointsYes it does. There are two solutions that I've come up with. One is to raise the hood and the other is is to cut an opening in the hood and make a fiberglass hood scoop to cover it. This is what the raised hood looks like.

8 pointsThere was some interest in my installing a Lister-Petters diesel into a WH C-160 . I'll try and remember to take photos as I go along. A little history first. Probably 10 years ago the engine was installed in a 10 hp. Ranger and I really liked the combination of the 8 spd. transmission and the LP diesel. The engine is only 8 hp. at 3000 rpm (going from memory here) but develops a ton of torque. Any of you familiar with the sound of the old 2 cylinder JD diesel tractors will have an idea of what this sounds like. Anyway in high range second gear it would dig the rear ATV tires into the ground. It also was capable of and did destroy the transmission. So next it was installed into a 12 hp hydro WH. that combination took care of the trans. problem but just never could put the power to the ground efficiently. Also the valving made it very difficult to control the speed when working in the garden. So now it's being installed in a tractor with a heavier built trans-axle. Hopefully I will use better judgement went hooking it up to pull something. The engine had a few oil leaks that I wanted to address before repainting. Installed new oil pan and side cover gaskets and also a shaft seal. Yesterday and today was spent cleaning and painting the engine with Hunter Green Rustoleum. Also included a photo of the future home for this engine with the mounts installed. If there is anything is else you would like to see as I go along please ask because I'm not a good photographer.

8 pointshere she is, i ended up going with the c175. So far i absolutely love it though there are many things to do this spring including a bath, all new fluids, and getting those ag tires on the right way! My first two modifications have been new LED lights and a few changes to the plow and lift mechanism to allow for a full lift and to stop the binding that wasn't allowing the plow to make full contact with the ground. I'll post more pictures as i get further down the road, but i can tell you this won't be my only machine. My 3 year old daughter has been out to plow with me twice and she is absolutely over the moon when i let her drive it!

7 pointsI like the raised hood May be a filler piece that kinda follows the yellow lines in this pic would dress it up even more. It would help hide fuel tank also.
-
6 pointsHey Richie, you’ve been holding out on us! I didn’t know you had a pic of you, @pullstart, and me at Buffalo Wild Wings after the show a couple of years ago!!

5 pointsWe had 3-4" today and I plowed with the 315-8 and 42" blade... I have to say loaded and steel weights on the "Deestone" AGs no traction issues and the Kohler never skipped a beat or ran out of power but JMO I'm not a fan of clutching shifting gears and lifting the blade wit my left arm... I so much prefer my Onan powered hydro trans hydraulic lift 520s.

5 pointsI know this has become a comedy center thread, so this is but here goes; Leave the frame as is and use the clutch mechanism that is there. Add to the rear of the frame and mount a two piece axle (end to end) supported by pillow blocks where you want the rear tires to be. Run a chain drive back from the transaxle to the two axles and call it a day. If you are looking for more speed the sprockets could be big to little rather than the same size. If the axles are 1" you could add a couple of brake drums and fabricate mounting points for the brake bands. You could even hook them up as turning brakes.

5 pointsIt uses very little fuel. The internal mass of this engine is huge. A lister rep. told me that the Crankshaft weighs as much as the flywheel which is big. They run these on the Valdez pipeline at the monitoring stations. He said they run 6 months non stop on 300 gals of fuel. They fly in fuel, shut them down for service and then they are restarted for 6 more months. If the hour meter is correct this one has around 470 hours on it. They were designed for 10K hours and have been know to go 40k before an overhaul. I had two of these but sold one to a fellow in Maine.

5 pointsI think hair is overrated you have to wash it and style it set it cut it and its still just hair! most times in the end it always falls out anyway!

4 pointsI usually by a plug wire plug kit for a 6 cyl tractor to make mine. Kit allows you to make enough for 7 single cyl engines at a reasonable price. https://www.fleetfarm.com/detail/calco-6-cylinder-wire-set/0000000026269?Ntt=tractor parts

4 pointsAnd just like that folks, a tractor build becomes comedy hour! And that’s why I just had to start my build thread from the start!
-
4 pointsWe weren’t eating popcorn though. Sad thing is, this thread will 18 pages long before he starts on the tractor.
-
4 pointsGlen had a stroke in the past year or two and some of his timing has been extended if you will. He’s a great guy and so far it seems like you’re not in the biggest need to get this tractor back up and fully functional... just be patient with his response time. I feel like he may be one of the heavy contenders as to why my girls are so excited about going to shows, and being involved with the hobby. He had a booth at our first show/meet and greet/plow day and insisted on them finding a few trinkets and whatnot to take, but wouldn’t allow any payment but a thank you and some cute little smiles!

4 pointsWe have no real data base on production numbers. @gwest_ca has compiled a list of serial numbers of various models and you can draw some conclusions from the highest and lowest serial numbers known to us.I guess you could extrapolate some data on early production numbers from this article. In 1954, Pond introduced his first 4-wheel lawn tractor, an event which altered substantially the lawn care manufacturing business. By 1957, his Wheel Horse Products Company recorded sales over $1 million (US $ 9.09 Million in 2019 dollars.) for the first time. Just two years later, the company's sales more than doubled, to $4.5 million (US $ 39.5 Million in 2019 dollars). Also, in the mid 1970 there were over 3,000 Wheel Horse dealers.

4 pointsHappy to be a small fish in this big sea. I'm always glad to try & help when I can, and super grateful for the help offered by others here.

4 pointsThere are stake pockets on the side to hold removable side rails. I plan to make side racks from wood for hauling loose items when needed. At least that's the plan. Course that was also the plan for the stake pockets when I built the trailer the last time. I never did get around to building racks for the last trailer, maybe this time I'll actually build them.

3 pointsOk, I am about ready to get back into the shop, now that my bathroom project is coming close to the final stages! I was going to get this thing built and finished then do an @Achto style unveiling but this might need some input from the peanut gallery. I also enjoy the interaction from y’all while it’s coming together! So here’s where I’m at. I have an old Commando 800 rolling chassis that came from the local auction. It’ll get a square hood from the 60’s. Maybe the hood will be shortened... how far I’m not sure yet. The chassis might even get a slight stretch, as I see fit. I grabbed a rolling automatic chassis from @fast88pu at last year’s big show, with hydro lift. It’ll be mated out back with some 15” race car tires. I’m going back to my roots with a @pullstart engine. @elcamino/wheelhorse gave @19richie66 a Predator 6.5 horse engine at 2018’s Big Show, who gave it to me. It should work just dandy, with a dual exhaust dumping out back. The Commando tower has manual lift which I’ll try to retain for underside attachments, since the hydro cylinder will be used for the dump box. Yep, it’s a UTV/Gator inspired build. I still need to find a decent Ohio Steel trailer for the box, or I might add some Wheel Horse flair and use some hood skins to build box sides. I am not sure if I’ll make this a bench seat or single seat vehicle. There are still some some surprises in the works with a special @Vinylguy decal package, but that’ll stay under the radar until we’re closer to completion. Here’s to finishing this thing before June!

3 pointsI dropped a blade tonight as soon as I got home. I'm honestly not sure that was any faster than shoveling, but it was a LOT more fun. Once I get a few more rounds and get a pattern worked out I'll get faster. This was my first time running any sort of plow.

3 pointsI think if simply remove wasn‘t proper working, i would take as next step a Hot Air gun or a burner, to warm up the whole centerplate up to about 100- 150deg.C with bearings upside down. if temp was reached, i would try use some Ice spray in bearingrings to shrink them. Supported by lightly hits with a small hammer arround the Bearing it shall be popping out. If no movement was seen, i would drill 2 small holes ( about 3mm dia.) inside the opposite bearing area thru centerplate let me say to better understanding in North and South and use a ( sorry don‘t know the name of that tools) to pry the Bearing with alternating light hammer hits carefully out of it‘s Seat. allways alternately a hit on each side. If needed it can be after that removal of the Bearing be closed by simply 2 Weldingpoints. but because it was inside the Gearbox, i think it is not required.

3 pointsTry that over here and your horses would think they were steeple chasers and jump over the rails.

3 pointsThe chain never touchs the ground,if you are careful. The two dogs come in contact with the ground and then the bow is rotated forward. When the bark at the bottom of the cut releases you stop the rotation.I have made hundreds of cuts with that chain without needing to sharpen it.If you look closely at the chip stream you never see any dirt coming out. .

3 pointsIt was about May when I started dreaming this project up. We saw this nice JD 140 at the Portage, WI show. The young man was nice enough to show me the box action. I think hydraulic dump would be the cat’s meow!

2 pointsCompression, Spark, Fuel got all three you got noise... Compression > take out the plug put your thumb over the hole crank the engine if it blows you thumb off the hole go to the next step Spark > with the plug out reconnect the spark plus wire, ground the base of the plug on the engine turn off the lights if you see spark go to the next step Fuel > dribble some fuel into the spark plug hole put the plug back in crank the engine if you make some noise then you issue is either delivery of fuel to the carl or the carb itself P.s. never leave out any of the steps as you will out guess yourself every time …….

2 pointspick your bore size https://www.surpluscenter.com/Pulleys-V-Belts/Finished-Bore-Pulleys/?page_no=1&fq=ATR_Grooves:2&fq=ATR_PulleyOutsideDiameter:3.95 By using a keyed shaft for the jack shaft, you can use 2 separate pulleys instead of a single, 2 groove pulley. Doing that allows you to gear up or gear down the speed of rotation for the final drive. Just throwing that out there

2 pointsDan types faster than me! These are at a farm & home store near us but you should also able to find them at TSC or Ranch King...

2 pointsAhhhhhhh well blow me over rover....I never knew either chevy made a tracktor....sadly like he said the rods were splash oiled and under a constant load the 216 cu.in wouldnt have lasted for sure....but I am very much sure the 1st motor that would have replaced it and yes with gobs more torke even considering it was a gas motor the 292 would have made this prototype a total monster in the day....I think if they did produce it theyd have lowered the rear diff gears even more then what the truck used for some seriouse pulling in the day.....dang come to think of it when i used to circle track I still have a clifford, 4bbl uintake for the ol chevy stove bolts....gave me far better milage and when I opened her up she sounded like a ferarri hahahahah, well with a deep thoat anyways!!!

2 pointsTrue that!! I did some checking on those, the weight rating is not as good as wood. The 15yr old deck boards that I removed from the old trailer are now being repurposed to replace a ramp on Joel's deck. So I think I'm gonna stick with wood.

2 pointsWas that the food? Company? Or Fireflies that set it all off? One of the best evenings we’ve had after the show!!

2 pointsIt looks great to me Kev...I’ve seen a couple of these build off of the Cub platform and they are cool and super functional. This will be a sweet build and is limited only by your ability to dream or fabricate! Good luck...save room on the couch for me @The Tool Crib

2 pointsFriday afternoon we got Hot Wheels and Jane out to do some yard cleanup from construction projects. You know... the kind that make mowing one more step?? We never use that door, but built an approach anyway... after 20 something years of it not having one. That turned into play time. Then Rylee wanted me to drive crazy on Jane and she wanted to chase me / drag behind the trailer. I figure if she falls, she is behind the rotating mass of everything so let her be a happy kid. Note too, we were air lassoing on our horses!
