First, Merry Christmas friends! Well, I’ve been around pretty much lurking since my last post. Just not enough hours in the day! First, my former student, Kierra, visited her dr at St. Jude following completion of her chemo treatments on the 17th. She got wonderful news - all three tumors from her lymphoma are gone! God is great and prayers work wonders! What a wonderful Christmas present for such a sweet 12 year old! Second, we are at the one year anniversary of Emory’s seizure. He hasn’t had another since last Christmas Eve and I pray he never has another! We go back to the neurologist at UT Children’s Hospital in January for his year follow up. That leads me to my final bit of info. Like last years, Emory is getting one of his tractors restored for his present. I haven’t posted about it, as it’s the Cub cadet he bought last summer. I also recently acquired him a matching IH #2 cart. It looks rough, but is mostly surface rust and is quite straight. Here are a few pics as per usual I’ll be finishing up tomorrow. The cart only got a good cleaning with a wire wheel and 80 grit paper and larger tires. I’ll have to restore it later when I get time. Again, Merry Christmas everybody!

Okay. I got this. I made up a video special for you. I had to go to the thought process and ingenuity of figuring out how to hold the phone because I don't have a tripod on a stand or any of that fancy-schmancy stuff like some of you high technology fellows do. Aforementioned phone carrying mechanism involves a can of WD-40 spray penetrant and the table of my drill press.

Thanks @Razorback. The last two years I’ve restored wheel horses for him, but a friend made us a deal too good to pass up on this little tractor. Emory had wanted it the last three years when he saw it at our show. The fuel system was full of crud and it had lost spark, so we were at the right time at the right time. A buddy and I worked on it for an hour or hour and a half the next morning and he drove it around for the next two days!! He loved it mustard yellow, so I hope he likes the change. He doesn’t know I’ve added headlights and rear reflectors.

I have not seen @Santa around the forum for the last couple of years. I'm wondering if we are all on the naughty list. I see he's still a supporter and that good. Well, if he's not around then I'll just wish everyone a Merry Christmas, & Happy Holidays.

I know @JCM Jim would get a kick out of this one and then I got thinking there's probably others as well.... Enjoy.

This is such a common tale in today’s world! Get the new (because it’s “better”) use it till it breaks, throw it out into the landfill, and repeat! I’ve shared the story here before but that was me in about 2005. I was sick of wrenching on my 1980 Case 224 and decided to “upgrade” to a brand new Cub Cadet. However, I couldn’t afford the $8,000 one and so what I could afford was a poor substitute. It was great, for a couple of years...then I started to get slapped in the face with the poor quality of that lawn tractor series machine. I’m thankful though because it led me to search out a real garden tractor which in time brought me to RS! Now I do my best to search out things that are quality (new or old) to use in our day to day life and to share that with my kids. Last week we had to fix our Maytag clothes dryer for the second time in a two month period. It is a genuine made in Newton, IA circa March 1996 heavy duty machine that we inherited from Kelli’s mom when we got married. It is an LP burning machine and we have replaced the igniter years ago. Two months ago we replaced the original drum belt and last week we replaced the blower fan. My kids were like, “why don’t you just scrap this one and buy a new one?” WELL...that was the wrong question to ask dear old dad!!!! We got into a long discussion about 24 years of steady service that this machine has supplied and that it could give us another 24 if we take care of it the way that it is built! Then Caleb started to tell me stories about his teachers discussing their new appliances that regularly fail after just a couple of years—SOMETIMES LESS! No thanks, I’ll stick with the vintage ones as long as they make parts! Clueless, keep on using your vintage iron, maybe after a few years the Mr “Young Love” will be down asking you questions about why yours continues to work hard year after year!!!🤔

Awesome news for both Kierra and Emory. It tugs at you hard to see kids go through that kind of suffering. Glad to hear positive results. God is good . Emory should really love that Cub and trailer. What a great addition to a young man’s collection. You better be careful or you will be building him his own barn for next year’s present. Have a great Christmas @dells68 ....sounds like it already is!

I'm sorry, I don't get it. Full size truck, lil bitty engine?? They may advertise HP & torque butt.... hook a load on behind that thing and see what it will really do before making a decision. I may be old school but I'm still a believer in "there is no replacement for displacement". Example: 2.7L turbo Silverado=7200lb towing at 16mpg average daily use 5.3L Silverado = 11,600lb towing at 18mpg average daily use. On average a 5.3L only cost about $1500 more than the 4cyl turbo. Above figure as tested by Car & Driver on the 2019's https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a25177218/2019-chevy-silverado-1500-four-cylinder-drive/

Best Christmas presents ever @dells68! I am so happy to hear of Emory’s positive year and Kierra’s miraculous healing as well! You’ve been on my mind lately and I’m glad to see even little bits and updates... but maybe you need to do another “Other Brands” build for the Cub 👍 Merry Christmas to my firefly chasin’ little buddy, You and Becca too!

Thanks Dells for the AWESOME update! It started my Christmas Eve (right after morning devotions) off right. It is always tremendous to hear an example of how God is still in the miracle working business. Often we only hear about the bad things going on in this life but if we keep our eyes open and our hearts/hands heavenward, we will often get to witness some of the many miracles taking place around us. Please give Mr Emory a hug and a high five from @Coulter Caleb and the Peacemaker! Regarding the Cub, you probably know that I have a good sampling of those in my stable. As a matter of fact, we have taken an annual Christmas picture with a garden tractor for the last five years. Tomorrow will be no different. I haven’t decided for sure yet but I think I’ll stage up the two 1964’s (CC100 and 854). Emory’s Cub looks great and please be sure to post a video of his reaction when he sees it! The headlights were a great addition and I love the BBQ grate grill on that series along with the shape of the cast iron grill surround. Somewhat similar to the WH 953. Looks like you did a great job on it as you always do!!!

@Achto I understand your reasoning, but I have heavier duty trucks that’ll pull more if pulling is needed. Really what the ZR2 (or this would be) for is running kids around, getting some lumber (or a couple tractors?). This thing is zippy and efficient and I wouldn’t be afraid one bit to hook up a trailer full of horses and come to plow day

The Stertz house is varied when it comes to games. We like board games like Risk, Brain Games, Trivial Pursuit, etc. We like yard games like Football, baseball, basketball, and chasing each other on the Wheel Horses!!! The boys like their PS3 system with their favorites being Madden, COD, and NBA 2K15. I have a had time playing those games because I look like I have three thumbs and twelve fingers😂! Back in the 80’s I played my ninetendo with Super Mario Brothers—yes showing my age too! I fear that we are raising a generation of kids that would rather play virtual basketball than play actual basketball or shoot a virtual gun rather than go to a range with their dad and learn how to shoot a real gun or drive a virtual car rather than pilot a real one! WHAT’s the deal? I don’t mind my kids playing video games occasionally as long as it is balanced with living REAL LIFE.

Great topic Kevin! Don’t show this one to Kelli, but... This is what Kelli and I look like after a long day at work. Apparently our daughter was kind enough to snap this picture of us deep in “tractorly” sleep. Me thinking about the next tractor project and Kell thinking about the next house project to interrupt one! And the cute kitten on Kelli’s lap—that’s Dutch and he is a snuggly little guy. He is actually resting on my lap as I type this... Merry Christmas Eve ya’ll! Caleb and I need to go to work this morning to celebrate these well above normal temps as I am in the middle of framing a 3,000 sq ft house.

Folks, I am VERY fortunate and thank the lucky stars every day, to have a spray booth, leftover primers and paints, sandpaper, welders, etc... for projects like this, it is one of the few perks of owning a hotrod shop, which is not nearly as fun as the name implies. However, if I had a dollar for all the paint work Ive done outdoors, hanging off trees, fences, the woman's plant hangers, digging out mosquitos (which always land dead center on the last coat) and grass clippings, and finding a nice overspray halo on the sidewalk when done, I wouldnt have to work. Hell, have seen a lot of backyard paint jobs turn out as nice or better than a professional booth job, and I see a lot of DANG nice paint jobs in these forums!

All the 417-A’s I’ve seen are hydraulic lift, I have one too! My 416-H is hydraulic lift as well. My 314-A is manual lift. The 518-H was manual lift, so I don’t think A or the H had anything to do with the lifting but I do think I’m more confused about this now than I was before!!!!
