Thanks to @wheelhorseman and @whtractors24 for some much needed help with this project I have finally come up with an acceptable solution to highlighting the extruded letters on the round hoods and the Kohler K series engine tins.

First post here, browsed around before when I needed a new engine for my old C161 eight speed, Ended up putting a magnum 14 in it I found near me on craigslist and found some good info on here that really helped. I'm a big fan of tinkering with old mowers, trucks, chainsaws and weed eaters. Despite the fact that I'm a network admin for a hospital which has nothing to do with that, I picked up too much of my tinkering habits from my grandfather growing up haha.. I bought a 417A that a local guy near me had rebuilt last night, the thing is in pretty darn good shape. It must have had a couple of rust spots, but he patched those very well and the hydro is strong and the engine is smooth, no smoke and seems like it has really good power. I'm not a fan of hydro stuff, but I have a big yard and my wife wants to help mow some over summer. She's an english teacher and has the whole summer off, so I'm not going to argue with some help but she can't shift or grasp how not to fly down a hill after getting used to the C161 stopping when you press the clutch until the trans is in neutral when she shifts. It's just not happening, but I'm always cool with buying another mower. We have a zero turn, and I have a old 52 vac that was my grandfathers with a woods finish mower but she can't drive those either she almost kills herself on hills with the zero turn and I don't want her driving the vac so here we are. Only issue I can see with this thing, is it doesn't seem like it's charging. Battery stays just above 12v on the voltmeter that's on the tractor but drops to almost 10 with the lights on. I think the voltage regulator is sitting on top of the engine on the left side from what I looked up online this morning. Hopefully it's either a loose connection or it's bad, I don't know how easy it's going to be on this thing to get to the stator if it needs replaced. I'm also not remembering seeing a wire on mine going from the stator to the positive terminal of the battery but maybe it doesn't connect straight to there? I didn't have time last night to really look into anything so I've just been researching online this morning when I get a spare minute. I also don't know if it's a series 1 or 2, I know there's a 1/16 port for an oil pressure gauge on the block for the series 2 engines, I don't remember seeing that or an oil filter, so mine might be a 1 which isn't great I guess but for how well this thing runs and only having 600 hours I'm not too worried about it. This thing won't be working as hard as some of my other mowers will, my wife just mows around the house where there are trees and flower beds and stuff and I mow 75% of our yard with the Case / Zero turn. Thanks for any direction in advance about the charging system, I think I know what to try but I'm used to learning I'm totally wrong as well ha. Here's some pics if it lets me post them of it and some of my other mowers, even my super rare Lawn Rov'r.

I picked up these Kohler parts today from a friend who brought them to me at work. I originally asked him to bring me a bearing plate. Well he did bring me three of those plus two 301 blocks one 321 block several sets of rings 4 new connecting rods , two sets of crank seals two new valves. A piston and connecting rod with rings what I believe is a K 91 set . And a whole lot of gaskets.

Our version is called remembrance day, or Poppy day as the poppy is our symbol for remembering those who fight for us in any war. We share a common respect for those who gave everything so that we might enjoy our freedom. My heartfelt thanks to all American troops who came to our aid in WW2. And to all who continue to serve to this day. Mick

He'll still have work putting mine on what with my 12 thumbs! When I order from Terry I order two sets. Mess up the first set on purpose just to be over and done with the screwup, then hand the second set to @Achto to put on! I could just order one set and hand him that one to put on but I ain't that bright....

My truck was down recently and my buddy Rick offered to haul a garage door that I needed to upgrade the garage for the wife's new car, a Rav4 Hybrid. He had a couple of small engine powered projects in his truck bed ready to be scrapped which incude a wheelbarrow style compressor [ unit in perfect mechanical shape needing only a $99.00 engine] and a HD pressure washer that needs carb work. We have a deal going that he can have an old car to pay back the scrap he lost and hopefully send more projects my way. His son basically hauls away yard equipment [trade ins and unwanted equipment when the customer buys new] from a lawn equipment dealer that is not economical to repair from the standpoint of a dealer. Just a perfect starting point for a back yard mechanic This could be good and a good way to fund my WHA. awe will just have to see where it all goes. I did get very fortunate and found a very nice 42" deck with the side drive system which I prefer to the mule drive. Two short belts will cut tall grass better than one longer belt. the man was such a nice person that i left more money than he asked for that deck. It was that nice and solid. Anyway, for a Buckeye to rustle a nice find like that out of the heart of Michigan Football territory ----.. Actually, I would like to see OSU get some humbling from somewhere like Ann Arbor after running up the score so high in their last game.. So now with this deck and a spare engine that Eric helped me out with some tins, and a roller someone gave me when I bought some other things, it looks like ia will have a third operating mower that I can use at the old home place.. So grateful to nice people on this forum after a tough year of injuries.

Yes, Tractor Supply sells alcohol base RV antifreeze. It smells like cheep gin and is probably flammable. It makes me thirsty ever time I load a tire.

Woke up the snow horses and got them out of the storage shed and up to the shop. I swear they put a poison pill in the batteries these days so they crater right after their 3rd Birthday.

Something that doesn't happen much around here...shipping out a WH. Loaded up a Charger 12 that I have fixed up for my older brother to use. He has a Ford 8N for the driveway but up around the house and paths for the dog he was wrestling with an old walk behind blower. This will be easier for him. In addition to the wheel weights I have 70 lbs of weights to go on the 2" receiver hitch.

You will want to flush it out with diesel fuel. What you need to do is lift the front end of the tractor up safely as high as you can and drain out what is in it. Then fill it up with diesel fuel run it around the yard a few times and drain it out again the same way. Do this until it comes out clear. Once you drain the last bit of it out add 2 quarts of 90 weight gear oil !

You have a regulator i can see it in your picture. They are cheap all over the internet. As far as tranny you can hang a wire next to the funnel and still pour slowly or take out one of the bolts on the top that hold the seat support/fuel tank Be careful not to get any dirt in there.

The bearing in the bell can be had at Napa for a few bucks. PP204RR6 or Prime line 704250. Unsure about the needle bearing inside but mine was ok. I just cleaned it and greased it. You will need a set of snap ring pliers and a punch. The bearing should come right out easily. You can put a large socket the size of the outside of new bearing to tap it in.

Went to Pensacola today and got some toys. Also got a bottom plow that is not pictured. The guy in Pensacola has a poor old C-160-8 for sale that has no reverse. I told him he had a leaky axle seal so I pulled the dip stick ... stick is corroded and covered with mud. It hurt to see that. He said he wanted to restore it for his son but his son doesn't want it. I didn't buy the tractor. (I hope I am not breaking forum rules ... I know I can't post a link to the ad).

Yap, @Darb1964 you‘re right. nothing beats a loader, except a bigger FEL... 😎 Eric, just a word about FEL using, edit i know, you‘re not a greenhorn - as far as i knew, you be in a Area, where some slopes are happen. I lost last year a good friend with an Tractor Accident, that can be easily prevented with a ROPS. He had one, but didn‘t use it. Please be so kind and think about a ROPS. While working on slopes with a Loader, you can smash a tractor very easy sideway‘s, that is not a impossible issue, but with a Roll Over Protection Structure you are more protected and able to survive a sidesmash. A simple Metal structure 3 easy welded Pipes can prevent, your tractor rolls over in case of an Sideimpact or tilt. Just a suggestion.
