When you put it in your cart, the price goes to $119.99 and then use your Ace rewards for an additional $20 off. With sales tax, my total was $107.49 with free in store pick up. I was offered this body to me over a year ago and I took delivery of it this week . It’s 1 of 300 made for 1960 (turquoise and white) and sold through Chevrolet dealers. The first year was 59 where 200 were built in red and white (this is what I thought I had) . No production numbers for 1961 . These bodies were made in the same factory as the real one . After close inspection of damage I see some turquoise poking through from under some decals and scraped paint leading me to think it’s a 1960 . I was just thinking cool wall art for the barn but a custom gasser built with some Horse parts would be . these next three pictures you can see the turquoise paint coming through . Picture of a original 1960 order form for 61

Many have said to clean the head on these motors to use a glass surface. Here in the woodshop I have just found the perfect surface to do this. The cast iron on my tablesaw is perfectly flat. So I glued this sheet of 320 grit and cleaned it up!

There’s a few around here... It’s my only C series hydro, but I don’t imagine it’s too different than the 60’s models we’ve accumulated. I’m focused mainly on organizing in the barn for now to make room to stuff a few vehicles inside for the winter. The racking is making a huge difference!

Morning all😊 Well, as i've stated in a prior post, i try to live my life just going with the flow; adjusting as necessary. Yesterday was proof of that. Now, i just hope my gut was right, and my luck holds... Not a Blackhood (always bet on black...well, it does have that cool racing stripe!); nor a c160...but it IS A hydro (lift).... But a 1971 Bronco 14 Auto, complete with (as told) working snowblower and deck; a spare set of rear turf saver tires. It was advertised as a working/running machine, that was owned/used for the last 12-15 years, and used last yr, then put away; n the owner was looking to switch to a walk behind snowblower. Well....in cart b4 the horse fashion (admittedly, just like me, sometimes, lol), it was soon discovered that the battery wasnt charged, and a few other 'minor' (I HOPE) things...but essentially a non running unit only...as told...because of that. So, i of course do the obvious, lol...took the owner at their word, am taking the chance, and purchased it; to b delivered, in the next few days. Price had a fair bit to do with my thinking, no lie. So did the fact that i believe the owner...that it will be delivered running. And lastly, it was close. The only mechanical concern that i have that i kno of for sure, right now, is, in the owner's words 'the static clutch that runs the blower cuts in an out'...the deal was already struck when i was told that...admittedly, i am clueless, here, so any input would be appreciated. Yes, price was a factor. So was how the owner spoke about things. But mostly, Trust is an important part of my life; who i am. And for the most part, that is why this is finding a new home here. It is close enough in size (i hope) and capability...that itll do what i need. We will see. There will be more/better pics, as this venture unfolds. But in the meantime, i'd sure appreciate any comments or advice... Y'all have a great day.... PS...cool thing bout sll this...i still have a need to find a c160 and a Blackhood! 🤣 Yeah...i must be crazy...

@Herder here you go. I do recall, it was advertised as $150 and he gave me $50 back after we shook hands on the deal. There are some loose tins, but it’s all there. The hood is quite tweaked, but I have two others from C-101’s to choose from. The hour meter says 1283 and I believe it.... At least they weren’t afraid to grease it!

Happy ending Was it brand spankin new? If it was me I might of pushed for a new machine that hadn’t been damaged and repaired.

uhm..... if anything ever happened like that when we sold a piece of equipment, it was on us to do whatever it took to make things right . That being a repair , new parts or new replacement . There would be no charge for delivery especially in this situation and his insurance wouldn’t even be in the equation . My

🤣😁; THIS; YES! ...I really just always dug that factory 'racing stripe', too, lol... This morning i thpught up my 1st name(ed) tractor, cuz of it... Its gonna be 'General'...as in General Lee... Cuz that stripe, jus like that flag from one of my favorite childhood shows, sure fits the era it was built, lol...

If it is a little warmer next year this time (we will make sure we bring down enough round hoods for us all to ride one) and we can take an extended tour around the blocks near your house ELGIN wouldn’t know what hit them!!!

most get parted out. this one is getting parted in. I had another post going on this but here is the new one i will keep updating. I lost count I think it's 9 different tractor parts so far. mostly everything is ready for reassembly. this project started from a center steering column with a serial tag, thought it would be fun to piece it back together. alot of time and cash going into it. alot of members here contributed to it with parts which I say thank you to

Did a little TLC on the cart I picked up last week. It's going to be a nice attachment for my tractors.

Eric good buddy. Awhile back you were building a tractor, that got put off because Trina was painting the house, Then it was you were building a wood shed, Last I heard you were buying a tractor with out house included. Just what is going on? I think we were promised wood shed pictures, haven't seen any. A year or so ago you tried to show us you were working with 3 shelves of stone. Get it in gear son we need to know what your doing. Lee1977

Cool find! I was thinking, but forgot to mention in the other post... don’t rule a Bronco/Electro/Charger out, they’re all work and cool names!
  29. 3 points
Good find! That tractor is effectively a "C140" - close enough to a C160!. Should serve you plenty well. $18 doesn't sound unreasonable.. Spray paint is cheap.

Synthetics are not an issue in older engines as far as lubrication and heat are concerned. What I have noticed is that synthetic's do not always get along with the seals on older engines. When I have tried synthetic oil in older engines I found that I developed leaks that were not present before.

That would probably be an electric clutch. They do have a tendency to become intermittent after a half century of service a just before they kick the bucket. You will be better off with a manual clutch anyway.

I am definitely interested in what others have to say about this subject, but... Instead of answering the oil question I'm going to make a suggestion... Buy online. You can get pretty much whatever you want shipped right to your door for prices that are less than you can find it on 99% of the shelves in a brick-and-mortar. Takes a little getting used to. I'll give you that. Trina and I purchase many many things online because we don't have the convenience of proximity to stores with the best prices or the items that we want to purchase. You'll save money. You'll save time. You'll have what you want.

49 years of putting up wooby doobies, Dino's all over the house, watching 50's monster movies, phone calls from neighbor's complaining about some guy riding around the block ona tractor with no socks and washing a blue striped shirt over and over and over and over....... HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO MY SURROGATE BROTHER AND SISTER -IN- LAW!!!!

I knew I forgot something! I couldn’t find a radiator for it anywhere! Oh well, it does ok for now. Parts aren’t too bad to get - lots interchange with bugs, but the thing only parts can be a little high. Emory bugged me to finally get my bug going. These pics are of it laid out on air ride. Can’t drive it without raising it up a little😂!

Hahahahahaha I have no defense. Actually, you need to know what TRINA IS DOING. I am going to get the outhouse / tractor tomorrow with @JCM Jim. I'll have pics of that in another thread. I took some pictures of the wood shed frame but I didn't like the darkness. I'll share those this weekend. Really, I'll have Trina take decent pictures. I promise to get on the ball and ask Trina if we can work on the tractor.

I would much prefer the hydro over the 8 speed for snow work.

Gotta luv those wood baked Pizzas. The best one I ever had was from a giant brick oven fired with apple wood. Problem is it is in Ljuibjana, Slovania, but it is worth the trip.

Buy 4 ply if you are going to 10.50 as you can run a little less air to keep the tread more flat across. The 2 ply will round up like a beach ball and not much you can do about it. I took some 2 ply off because I didn't like the way they looked. 2 ply 23 x 9.50 x 12 on 7" rims 4 ply 23 x 10.50 x 12 on 7" rims

Well here ya go..... my two and 1/2 cents. Made a pretty good living managing maintenance and a good bit of time was looking at the "life blood" of machinery. I have used synthetic oil in my older engines with no issues for the last 10 years. These are a few things that I think are important. I believe any internal combustion engine that does not have an oil filler can not have the oil interval extended. There is just two much dirt made by combustion and floating around in the oil. Drain is essential for removal of the dirt. Synthetic oil transfers heat much better and will increase the life of components dramatically. As far as the seal issues and synthetics goes, those seals are probably bad anyway. The detergents in the oil will shine up the seal causing a path for seepage. Synthetic oil is not, viscosity wise, any thinner than conventional oils. VIS is VIS There are "high mileage" synthetics. I figure there may be some kind of seal conditioner in those but have no experience with those oils. Brand seems to have little to do with quality. I use the RK brand that is manufactured by Citgo. You must, at all cost, avoid the "lack of" brand! Specifications are the most important. i.e. the GM spec. In the case of these old air cooled engines, There are no super speed components, just general lubrication is necessary. The bang for the buck is the heat reduction. In the Wheel Horse fleet, I try to consolidate my oils and use 10w-30 synthetic in most all the engines and hydro transmissions. It is real hard to determine if what we are doing will improve anything. In the tractor world, there are little hard maintenance and load records. Some people change oil when they should, some don't. Some run them hard and some don't. You know how it is when you go and look at some of the machines for sale. Things can be deceiving. Though my work, we kept meticulous maintenance records. We also graph the heat and load on the major crankcases and gearboxes. Sampled and analyzed the oils. Major components were changed out on a cyclic basis, disassembled, examined and restored to specification. The one thing that influenced the out come of these analysis the most was..... the oil. I was skeptical......but those findings through the years made me a believer.

with the use of a diode, a single pole double throw (three position) switch could be made to work. The diode will allow electrical travel in only one direction so having the headlights powered in both on positions without powering the work light too. here’s a quick sketch of what I mean.

I hear ya Jay. And I have put my design foot control on a C-120, a 312, a 417, and a 520. Any tractor with the motion control lever on the right side console. I don't promote the design because it is a single spring loaded pedal that will go to reverse if you fall asleep on the tractor. Considered unsafe by OSHA. Chris @clueless, If you are interested in details, send me a PM.

More tru for diesels. When I got my new to me Dodge with the Cummings I was told to hook her up to a load and crank on it and don't let it idle much. I thought that was a bunch of cockadoodledoodoo. After some research yah that is right...need heat to seat them rings and diesels being cold blooded as they are. So I hooked it up to a 14 ft enclosed, threw a bunch of in it, couple of heads in the cab and went to a tractor show in PA!

Think of how a high performance engine is brokenin on a dyno. Dead slumber to a full scream and held there. If it stays together, it's now test proven. Nothing sounds cooler.
