'Ya don't see the 'ol girl THIS clean This often . She got pretty much completely disassembled and : New front wheel bearings pressed in . Front / Rear differential & gearbox oil replaced . Fresh Mobil 1 full synthetic engine oil and a new oil filter . Both primary and secondary clutches serviced along with the one-way bearing . Air filter and throttle body cleaned . And a good thorough HOT water & dish soap scrubbing to remove all the baked on mud . Thanks old girl for another safe / problem-free riding season ( almost 860 miles ). And good night for 5 cold winter months . Looking forward to spring !

My son and I are building a few racing mowers. A few other father and sons from our pulling club are building as well. We are making a track at our house. We have a pair of Craftsman tractors and I also have an older Lawnflite that will be racing machines. We stripped the Craftmans down to bare bones Thursday. Last night did pulley swaps and new belts. next steps are get smaller rear tires 16x8-8 I’m thinking... adjust RPM Bolt up decks

All the above is true. The button heads don't stick out any more than carriage bolts. Plus I just couldn't see putting the extra work into a consumable item.

The 10 hp will certainly throw snow but in my opinion, more hp is better for the blowers. Put it this way, you would definitely notice a difference. Adjust your ground speed fast enough to keep the blower loaded up with snow so you can hear the load on the engine. It will clog less and throw farther. It'll take a storm or two or three for you to get used to it and you'll figure out what works best for changing snow conditions. Going too slow will clog the chute

I found these Two 16 Horse kohlers off of Facebook marketplace one of them is definitely a wheel horse motor the other one so I'm told might possibly be a gravely? Ended up paying 220 for them both . The wheel horse one he told me that it was board 30 over. And I'm thinking that I hope whoever did it knew what they were doing.

That’s awesome! I’m not going to that extreme but sure would be fun to drive it! Most clubs require the deck to be installed on the mower. I plan on raising up the rear axle into the frame. This makes the machine lower. Smaller tires fit better. I’m still new at all this. Learning as I go.

The “2054” got some temporary shoes today. These will eventually be replaced by the same tires but 26-11x15 on 10” wide wheels. These are 26-9.0x15 on stock gt14 wheels.

Well I got everything done I wanted to plus more. I was able to fix the seat on the 416. Bought that new seat and all the holes didn't line up and where it was mounted was too close to the wheel. Was able to dig outta my trash the rusted sliders/adjusters from old seat and got them working again. Then drilled some new holes, taped them and got it mounted. This tractor is much more comfortable when you can sit on it and your belly doesn't rub the wheel haha. Hopefully my PTO bearing comes this week and I can use this machine for the first time. I've got 1 more mow in my front yard before the end of the year and would like to try this on my 48" deck. Had a little photo shoot since all 3 were out of the shed. You can bring 3 horses to water but you can't make them drink!. 416 walk around and cruise around my property

I got to checking it here a few minutes ago. Like Stevasaurus said, no rubber, my block/pan is bolted right to the frame. I did grab the engine and shook it, which rocked the whole tractor, and helped me notice the large bolts that hold the drive belt guard to the engine was gone, and letting the guard flop and ride on the back side of the belt. I fixed that and ran it for a few minutes, it was nice and smooth like I remember it being, but I didn't run it real long, so I guess time will tell.

Not quite true... Wheel Horse bought Sno-Flite from CE Erickson Mfg in Des Moines, IA. Wheel Horse finished the late 69 models as Sno-Flites before rebranding them as Wheel Horse Safari for the 70 model year. Safari snowmobiles are all Wheel Horse Products Inc productions. Here's a screenshot of the 69 Sno-Flite parts manual from Wheel Horse I have. and here's the 70 manual cover. Many years back when I was researching the snowmobile line I ended up emailing and talked on the phone with the retired Wheel Horse employee who was sent from South Bend to Des Moines after they bought the company... he was their manual writer... he told me about how he had to lay out all the parts to photograph and make the parts list... as there is no isometric drawings of the snowmobiles... just old-school parts laid out and numbered.

Deep cycle batteries are designed to be drawn down and recharged further than most tractors can do. Some say if you don't discharge a deep cycle far enough continuously it will drastically shorten the life span. Also, they are far more expensive in most cases. Can you? Sure. Should you? I wouldn't think it would be best in the long run. The question that comes to mind is: Why are you wanting to use a deep cycle? Do you already have one on hand?

I had a battery tender cook the water out of a battery one winter. The solution I came up with was to put a small timer on it that only runs the tender one hour a day. Seafoam is in the gas all year and I manage to find a little job that needs the help of a or two every week so they all get out and play at least once a month all year.

One way I tell if the problem is carb or ignition is by testing with a cheap inline spark tester. I have had been fooled by thinking a carb problem and the ignition was faulty.

Winter is on it's way!! I have a gravel driveway so I have my blower set to leave about an inch or so of snow behind. Now that I have a new side walk to maintain I wanted an easy way to keep it scrapped clean after I run over it with the blower. Today I made a new wear bar for my recently acquired push plow. I did a lot of research, and would you believe that they don't make a drill bit that will drill a square hole so a guy can use carriage bolts?!?!? Given this fact and the fact that I don't have a broach to cut the square holes, I decided to make things easy on myself and bolt the wear bar on with button head bolts. Now I have to get the blade sandblasted & painted so that snow will not stick to it. Also need to decide if I want to paint the plow frame right away or if I'm going to just leave it the way it is.

Good evening all. Just spent a couple hours with Red Square member Historic Horse. Looked at his treasures, We struck a deal, I went and came back with a trailer, he busted his hump in my absence and made a path for me and my truck/trailer right back to his shed and the goodies. We backed the 417 on my trailer (he did ,I pushed ), the rain made my planked deck as slimy as deer guts on a door knob. Then I found a couple cool ones in the back of my of my rig and we popped a couple. The rotto tiller was next, and then the plow. I think we cracked a couple more open then. The rain got no worse than annoying. Strapped the old girl down, and he came out with the wheel horse spreader,NICE! Into the truck bed with that and three suit case weights . That delighted me, I've been watching for some of them. Then came the rototiller mule, belt and helper spring. I think at this point we needed to get out of the lower twenty and back to his garage. However the tail gate had to be closed, and the trailer gate/ramp as well. Uh oh, that cost me another cold one! Then a final check in the shed and he asked me if I wanted what appeared to be a home made cultivator frame / hitch with no tines. I said sure why not. Then up to the garage to get a bag of tiller accessories he had.Wow! He comes out with the coulter wheel and hardware he didn't know he had for the plow. Then out with another box off goodies he comes. A slot hitch, a sleeve hitch, and pin, New tiller lift chain brand new hardware. A lift cable, clevis,s and more. One more trip, a large wooden box,and in it 8 brand new tines for the home made cultivator and shafts. I.m forgetting stuff I'm sure. You get the idea. Two happy guys with a great deal each. No better way to enjow a sunday afternoon.

Thanks Tom. The car and motorcycle were purchased within months of each other back in 1998. The bike was brand new and the GTO was really tired. I also met my future wife in between the two purchases and so that was a big year for me. We restored the GTO in 2000 and got married that summer. The car missed being in our wedding by about 3 months but we used the bike as a get away vehicle. Lots of time spent on both until we had kids. Then the bike ended up being more “garage art” than anything for about a decade. The GTO however got used throughout the summers. Caleb,Kelli, and I took it to GTO Nationals in 2005 in St. Louis when Caleb was just a year old. To say that our family has a lot of memories with the car is a huge understatement. However, I have no misgivings about what is really important and that sir is my family as you have stated. I love the fact that I have been able to keep the car all these years as a time capsule and each of my kids have been growing up around it. My favorite way to enjoy the car is with them and their friends. My youngest, Zach (6yrs) was asked to predict his future the other day. Here was his quote... I wonder where he got that from🤔 This is what he would like to drive! I could see that at a car show with my ‘69 and grandpa’s ‘67! But it is the family that is far more important than that which can’t love you back! The Stertz family says, “Thank you for the compliment!”

Thanks @Tractorhead! I am looking for a few items I haven’t been able to source or get shipped from Germany after I found them - no shipping to US from eBay.de with some sellers. I’ll send you a pm later. Well, I got my antenna mounted today for the SEM 25 radio. I also mounted my amber beacon beside the windshield. I’ve had some tubing from when I first built my roll bar years ago. I meant to make a set of rocker rails to help hide the 2” body lift I made. What do you guys think? Will it look better with the rock rail painted black or leave it as it is? Opinions appreciated!!

changed front tires this past summer planned on getting a tire changer - but instead did it the old fashion way and it (surprisingly) went fairly quickly used motorcycle tire irons ; not the longest tire irons but sufficient force / leverage even to install 4 ply tires the tires were not too 'squashed' or deformed during storage or shipping - but still a challenge to get bead seated on wheel to allow inflation don't have a compressor (took the 704 but left compressor and air tools behind) - so I wrapped a motorcycle tie-down around circumference of the tire and this enabled the bead to seat just enough to allow inflation

that 4 4 two stage is a mechanical minefield without regular maintenance, i would go after any belt tension movement point with lubrication to insure its moving freely and also go after rusty movement points. the pto lever system could probably use some oil also to increase its function. i know i harp on lubrication very often , but i am astounded to see anyone talk about a driven unit that is not well set up. i use chain and cable fluid on my 36-42 and it spins by hand very easily. jmoo, pete

I definitely will. My plan is to update and add some more detail to the coach. The frame is an actual Wheel Horse 4-Wheel wagon. I plan to try and preserve that and possibly add real style wagon wheels. Not sure if the 4-wheel wagon is included yet This is what current owner explained to me: Tractors aren't the problem. There should be enough interest at any show for attendees to let their tractors to be used. Setup could be the day before. The right front unit needs to be a hydro with the shift lever on the left. Others just need to be stick shift with same frame length side by side. The real issue is the building of the coach. It was on a Wheel Horse 4-wheel wagon, but I would recommend that the replacement be a little larger and with different wheels.

The connection position has to do with sensitivity, otherwise it shouldn't make a big difference. That inner most hole will be more sensitive to the governor, ie: less movement of the governor arm is required to move the carb butterfly from fully closed to fully open. The outer most hole will require the most amount of governor arm movement. If your engine is hunting (up and down RPM) you may want to try moving the connection to the middle hole. If it's operating fine and through heavy load of the engine, it's good. You can certainly try moving it to your preference spot without any worries

It is a hockey puck. Never seen them but was told they are useful for all kinds of things. Solid rubber and it is machinable in the lathe. So I drilled and hollowed one out to make a gear lever gaiter. Hopefully should let water drip clear of the ball joint.

If I can ever find the picture of my father pulling my one semi less trailer with my 417-8 up into my driveway with about a 5 percent grade, truck probably weight right around 9 ton. Anyway if I can ever find it I will share it. Anything I ever tried that was unreasonable for the 417 the first to happen was always lost traction.

Believe it or not, the battery is an Advance Auto Parts battery. Build date on it is 2011. I think one thing that helped it is that I have a battery disconnect on it, so there is no parasitic draw at all once disconnected. I ended up letting it sit as Emory needed more attention, Mom got sick - then passed 4 years ago, and I just decided to concentrate on family time with Emory, Becca, and Dad. Emory is big enough to enjoy it now and had been wanting to get it out. Below is a picture of night I pulled it out of the garage. I had the military antenna mount, blackout lights, folding shovel dated 1969, first aid kits, warning signs, gas cans, traffic paddle, and others - all og German. Now I’ve ordered the correct flag set, shovel for the rear package tray, emergency lights, hatchet, and cleaning brush. I know - that’s a lot of stuff, but I’m trying to get the items an original military issue 181 would come with. i made the light pole and mounted a European beacon to it - not quite correct, but I like it. Thanks for the kind comments guys! Gotta go to work. Check out Emory’s smile below!!

I did the Honda Conversion a few years ago. It was pricey ($1800.00), but did include all the parts needed to convert like the adapter sleeve and a motor mount. It also included the wiring harness and voltage regulator. The only fabrication was to weld an extension to the clutch bracket to fit the bolt holes on the Honda, similar to what Woodsie needed to do. The HF looks like a good alternative if you don't mind doing a little more fabrication. My conversion was very fast as I did it over a two day period, about 12 hrs. I've been very happy with the conversion. I did not like the supplied muffler and later installed the OEM Honda muffler. It did require cutting into the hood, but it fits better and is quieter.
