Wanted to show off my project from last winter. I enjoyed working on the 68 Lawn Ranger which was stored dismantled in a small shed for the last 10 years. I still have the mower deck to finish but it’s been a great learning experience. I bored and rebuilt the engine and rebuilt the rear axle assembly myself and even tried my hand at upholstery work. The seat didn’t turn out too bad for my first try. Thanks goes to members of Red Square for all the information.

There was a discussion on the forum awhile back about what tractor you would love to own if you could go in and order it new. I like Gear Drive tractors for ground engaging work and Hydros for snow blowing and mowing chores and so I had to bend the rules and choose two. I picked a 520HC as my hydro with a deuce and a 60”. I chose a 1054 with a full complement of ground engaging tools. Little did I know that in a matter of days I would own a 1054! I had the opportunity to purchase it in a package deal with two other tractors. It came with a mid mount grader blade and a 60” front mount blade and three mower decks. For those who like Patina, this tractor has about the perfect amount. It is a mostly original machine. The engine seems to run pretty good although it could use some adjustments. It is serial number 49349. The story goes that the rear end was rebuilt by the guy two owners ago. The only “evidence” I have of that possibility is that it has a new looking shift boot and seems to work really well. My goal for this tractor is to just plain enjoy it. I might hook a plow to it someday for fun but more likely than not, it will be my go-to yard tractor. Hook on the trailer and do yard work as needed. It is easy to drive and good natured and so I feel it will be a good fit for that. I wish that the seat didn’t have the big tear on the left side because even that isn’t in bad shape. My goal at this point is to preserve the current state of Patina the best I can. It can always be tore down and repainted should I change my mind but as @Shynon says, “they’re only original once!” I know that the gas tank and fuel system needs attention and so that will be the first main priority. I also don’t care for the fact that it is missin all call out brand and model decals. So I put @Vinylguy terry on it and he did a great job. I asked him to make Patina decals... He started with his usual set and then we discussed weathering options. When he messaged this draft to me—I was stoked... All the other original decals are in place except the hood and grill as far as I can tell. @pullstart was over when they arrived and he thought they were cool! @Achto said he might be interested in some for one of his Patina machines. I haven’t had time to install them yet but they look great held in place. I have no idea how to prep the rough surface underneath so that they will stick—any recommendations will be appreciated. I am planning to keep the original tires on it since the are in pretty good shape for being 54 years old but I’m pretty sure that I’m going to paint the wheels in antique white. Future plans: —locate and install vintage headlight lens. —get lighting operational —tune up engine. —Make new seat base and purchase a repo seat kit while retaining the original set —enjoy it every way that I can

My father in-law has been making payments to a co-worker of my wife for this tribute bike. His wife passed away from Breast Cancer and he had a local artist paint this bike for him. It’s been a number of years and he has since remarried and doesn’t ride enough to justify keeping the bike. He mentioned to Taylor that he planned on having Rod the painter black it out again so he could sell it. We talked with her dad and we all decided it should stay as a tribute to Mary, and any other person affected by such a horrible disease. Tonight I went and picked up the bike. It’s a 2010 Harley Davidson Street Glide. It rides great and the bike is beautiful. Sorry for the poor lighting, it’s hard to get a good picture in the barn at night.

I think your B-100 is either a 1974 or 1975. Your Sundstrand pump is #90-1136. Your trans-axle is a #5090 4 pinion with 1" axles. The large ball bearing, which carries the differential is #1533. The outer axle bearings are Wheel Horse #1528 this crosses to Torrinton or Koyo B-1616. The axle seals will be Wheel Horse #100607. I do not know what that crosses to for SKF. @gwest_ca might know. Our vendor Lowell has the bearings and the seals. @wheelhorseman http://www.wheelhorseman1000.com/

Well, @pullstart checked in with me last week wondering if I’m ok. Well, I guess I’m doing ok. I’ve just been distracted by another one of my hobbies - vws. I’ve got a 74 VW Thing that I hadn’t moved in about 7 years. Emory was wanting to go for a ride as he doesn’t remember being in it when he was little. I was really surprised that the battery still had 10.75 volts and all I had to do was drain the old gas (had been treated with fuel preservative) and charge the battery and she was off. We took it to a VW show a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been slowly mounting military accessories I have for it and collecting a few more. Been kind of nice to mess with it again after all of this time!

Very nice. I am going the same route with “Hank” my 953. It will be as close to original as possible. Only change will be a new fuel tank in the back like Karens 2054. I also have fallen in love with these. I just ......need ......one .....more ....

Me too! Guilty as charged! 🤔🤔🤔 That used to be my thought too! Coming from the Cub Cadet community, I often heard the shaft drive argument... HOWEVER—my experience with GhostRider has led me to believe much of that is sour grapes and/or misinformation. With GOOD pulleys (sheaves) a GOOD belt, it has been my experience that you will lose traction, stand the tractor vertical, or snap something in the tranny before the belt slips. I have plowed with mine where the front end was off the ground and it was clawing for traction and the belt was fine. If the belt is badly worn or the tensioner is...all bets are off.

Nice Ritchie ... that work makes me look small potatoes. Bolted up a set of Zach Kerber solid mounts on a new to me C-145. Not as easy as it looks tho. Tip... enlarge the 1/4 holes slightly on the shaker plate. Was a bear getting the bolts all lined up with the motor in frame. Sold as a rock now tho. Before when you engaged the PTO the motor would move back a 1/2 inch. No more.

Long dormant B-80 revived and put to work today. Needed new tank grommet, petcock, fuel line, filter, rebuilt fuel pump, new carb, battery, points and condenser. Pardon the ghosting at the end - it was at idle/1st gear and in a large area free from any kids.

The 4 stood for - material support - " We have a bunch of fenders & tool boxes left over from the 1964 models. What are we going to do with them?" Mr Pond- "Throw them on the 1965 models & call it a 1045" I'm thinkin' a similar conversation happened in 1963. Purchasing - " Tecumseh is behind on delivering engines but I just got a smokin' deal on some Kohler 6hp engines." Mr. Pond - "Throw the Kohlers in the 653's and call it a 633" Non of this is fact, but I would bet that it is not too far off.

What I would do to prep for decals is use tape on the back of the decal to hold it in the correct position. Carefully tape around the out side of the decal then remove it. Now you have the area where the decal will be framed out. Sand and paint this this area so that the decal will stick, color will not really matter. Maybe a dark brown just in case some paint shows around the edges of the decal.

Wheel is 11.5” diameter, 4” across. Any other measurements I can get for you, let me know. Believe it or not, this plow was bought at a dealer here in Orlando. Same one as the C-120 I have, which was my dad’s first wheelhorse. 👍

These headlight lenses came from Glen @ https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/forum/54-glen-pettit-restoration-parts/ I was every happy with the purchase. There's something about the old rusty look that gets me every time. My intention was to repaint this one at first, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Well sometimes laziness helps to make that decision too.

I cut the genny guts apart and spun the hub on the lathe. That’s something to work by!

I have one photo of the Ranger. This is when I brought it home and took it apart. I put the parts in a loft area of my shed and they sat there for the last 10 years. I went to a tractor show in Ottawa, KS and got the idea that I should do something with it.

Well, it's as far as i got this year....she's been gone completely through, and partially painted. Hoping to get a decal set and complete repaint next year, depending how she works out this yr. A one pull starter, i'm bettin she'll throw the white stuff just fine😁...i am hoping🤔🤣 ...i included a pic of what is called the collar to ask for help. The parts/instruction manual isnt very clear. I kno it goes on the clutch rod...but where??? It was just riding at the bottom of it, loose, when i got it. Thats why the ACE baggie...had to buy the missing set screw.🤣

How about leaving it LP and a LP powered tractor? Some old tanks/brackets off a forklift. Mount out back for more weight at plow events?

I think I’m gonna call it Steve. I love you man!

Now here's something interesting. This does not seem to be homemade. Looks like it has a legitimate name on the front of it . Whiz -Mow Rider! Found this on Facebook. Don't plan on purchasing it but I thought I'd share it with everyone to see if they've ever heard of it ?

@ebinmaine found his K532 for the Colossus build by means of an auction genny. I also last year bought a big old dinosaur genny at the local auction and was amazed at the size when I went to pick it up. well tonight, I pulled it from the racking for some investigating. It’s a 24 horse power K662! The funny thing, the genny is rated at 5 kw and 120 volts! I figured due to the size that maybe it could be a whole house genny. Maybe not. it looks like it was set up as LP powered, but maybe it could convert to gas by a new carb...

Yeah, I think you're right. Those drive belts probably have 75% contact with the belt, and with everything in pretty good shape it should not slip. Been searching tensile strength of v-belts in the 1/2" range, but can't find anything. Found one chart with materials like natural rubber in a belt is 500-3500 lbf / in2, and fiberglass is like 350,000 lbf/ in2. Sounds like the belt will slip before it breaks.

Hey Eric, i had a Site from Optibelt with a calculation example. but that site is just in German and i don‘t find the english reference. May a Visit at the Homepage of Optibelt help you out, where they offer Standart, small Belts with 9mm core for Loads until 7,5 KW, and up to 180KW, depending of Space and count of Belts. https://www.optibelt.com/us/divisions/power-transmission/v-belts/ here you can find a lot of Info‘s, all about Belts and Pulley‘s. i doub‘t your weakpoint will be the Belt itself or the Tyres. This issue can be solved by ratio between motor pulley and gearbox pulley. less speed is more force, that simple. i guess your most common problem will may be, bring the Traction to the ground on Slope. Belts mostly can handle more Power, then they seems to.

Watts = amps x volts. with that said, that is a 2001 watt genny.

Note that I chose those two specific words to quote. I don't do any tractor pulling like in a ring or anything but we move some pretty heavy stuff here on the side of the mountain. Before I got these tractors a few years back I would have thought the same thing about the belt drive but I don't believe that anymore. I have a tendency to believe nowadays that the weak link is traction from Drive tires to driven surface. When I'm in the forest I use ag/bar tires without chains. I have found from interesting personal experiences that if I use chains the front end of a very heavily weighted tractor will slowly crawl up in the air 15 or 18 inches and that will definitely wake you up. I now use slipping tires as my weak link in the chain of movement, so to speak. It would be very interesting to see someone do testing to find Max torque limits but I'll not likely ever do it myself.

Honestly I’m right there with you, but the comfort while on the bike keeps me riding, my Honda made my hands go numb. They are growing on me, but I never imagined I’d be on a full dresser!

LOL, Well, I worked on it last night. First thing I noticed was it was very wet from the fuel pump base going down the block. Above the fuel pump, dry. I drained the engine block and the oil was completely diluted with gas. I had a tad over 3 qtrs of fluid come out and the block only takes 2.25 Qtrs. Removed the fuel pump but of course being plastic, I damaged the outlet connection because after reinstalling it it was blowing gas all over the place. So, I picked up a Kohler Fuel pump part# 47 559 11-S. Its blows my mind the price range for this plastic pump. I am seeing $9.95 on Ebay with all gaskets to $225.00 on MTD web site. Kohlers is $174 and the pump is no different than the $27.00 one I bought off E Bay. But then, I question fit and finish plus the o-rings used are different in color etc. BTW, with the oil drain plug out, I did run a little over a qtr of oil thru the block to try to get more gas out before adding new oil. I'll run the new oil for 10 hours or less and change the oil again. I have not installed the new in-line fuel shut of valve but I think I will to be safe. Last thing I ever want to do is blow up this engine block. Thank you Wildman C120 for the info on the carb. I did a screen shot and will print and save that in my Toro folder/file.

This is actually an antique tractor pulling trick. Install LP heads on a gas engine to bump up the compression for more power.

Mine was a "counter engine" or possibly out of something like a bobcat. Lucky for me it has a straight crankshaft. Check out my Colossus thread. There's a few pics there to show the size of one of these monsters. @pullstart Gotta do it man. That's a Midwest Colossus brother waiting to happen.

Imo that is the very best worker Wheelhorse made hands down. Engine will run forever and it is very simple. All the power you could need. I recently restored one and also found another at a local tag sale. Has just shy of 2800 hours and runs mint with no smoke or noise. May have been rebuilt at one point not sure. Best of luck with it!

I am having a very hard time finding new tires for my old wheel horse lawn tractor. The rear tire says SuperTurf Armstrong 22 x 9.00 - 12. One local tire store says they can sell me 22 x 9.5 - 12 Carlisle Turf Saver for 62.50 but I'm not sure since it's 9.5 and not 9.00. Can anyone help me/advise me? I live in mid-Michigan. Thank you so much

See, I have one of these K532’s as well, and some funny guys thought it would be great to get me (Rylee) hooked on turning dirt... now I’m contemplating a Donkey/Mule/Prairie Dog build... I need some more custom big wheel ideas!
