10 pointsThe Rhine is in every photograph you take! We had a layover in Munich (Munchen) this morning, then headed to Amsterdam for our final destination. Tonight, dinner. And some drinks. Now, we’ll sleep. Traveling overseas yields you a 2 hour nap which you call “night” and you must adapt, hit the ground running, Tomorrow we’ll eat breakfast, check out of the ‘Hotel Levell’ and head to Duisburg area to see our Jil”s family! I’m amazed at the water way systems in The Netherlands, what a clever way to keep every field happy and healthy!

10 pointsHi guys. So long story short, I was given an old wheel horse 854 by a friend. I was told that his dad bought it in 72 and had it ever since. His father passed in 2007 I believe and he said he last had it running in 2009. It's been sitting ever since. I've wanted one for a long time I just never pulled the trigger. Guess it worked out in my favor, huh? Anyways, I'll be asking tons of questions around here,so I just want to say thanks in advance. So I plan on doing the basic fluid changes and fuel cleaning first and go from there. Next I'll need to find out what size battery I need and if it's a 6 volt or 12 volt. I'm totally open to any information you guys thinks I would benefit from knowing. It will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

7 pointsHere you go. All you need to know about it. How to Reinstall or Replace the Charging Magnets in a Kohler or Tecumseh Flywheel - Top of page When a ceramic magnet becomes loose inside the flywheel, if it is not broken, it can be reinstalled with Krazy Glue, Super Glue, Gorilla Glue, or any industrial strength adhesive. Broken magnets cannot be reused. A broken magnet must be replaced with an identical magnet in good condition. A broken magnet actually becomes two magnets with a north and south pole on each broken piece, and will not work at all in a small engine alternator charging system. Even if the two pieces are glued together, the magnetic poles may or may not attract, and the molecules cannot bond together to form one single magnet. When the flywheel is removed and all the magnets are stuck to the stator, remove the magnets and place them someplace where so they're be in the order that they were in the flywheel or on the stator (don't mix them up). Thoroughly clean the outside curve of each magnet and the inside of the flywheel with electrical contact cleaner, brake parts cleaner, cleaning solvent or paint thinner (these leave no oily residue), and then reinstall the magnets in the order they were removed with Krazy Glue, Super Glue, Gorilla Glue, or any industrial strength adhesive. Make sure the magnets are equally spaced apart, too. To remove good, reusable ceramic magnets from a flywheel (for whatever reason), first of all, place a number on each magnet in their position in the flywheel (1-2-3-4-5-6) with a Sharpie metallic silver permanent marker or paint marker so they can be reinstalled in the correct order. For magnets that's held in place with aluminum compression pins, simply use an 1/8" roll pin punch and a medium size hammer to drive out one pin toward the center of the flywheel, then all the magnets will be loose and can be removed from the flywheel by hand. For magnets that's held in place with glue, use a propane torch or an oxy-acetylene torch with a small flame to heat the cast iron part of the flywheel on the outer (glued) part of each magnet to soften the glue, and then CAREFULLY and GENTLY remove the magnets with a thin, sharpened steel putty knife or scraper and small hammer. Do not apply heat directly to the magnet itself, it could break! Due to the heating process, and to prevent from being burned, use a shop towel to handle each hot magnet. TO AVOID BREAKAGE, DO NOT COOL CERAMIC MAGNETS WITH WATER! Allow them to air-cool. Internal flywheel charging magnets are of a very odd type. Charging magnets in the Kohler and Tecumseh flywheels do not have just North and South magnetic pole ends, such as the typical U-shaped or horseshoe magnets. There are a total of six magnets in most Kohler flywheels. Three are South-North-South on the inside curve and North-South-North on the outside curve, and the other three magnets are North-South-North on the inside curve and South-North-South on the outside curve. They are NOT North-South and vice-versa on the ends, no exceptions. Each magnet is like three magnets integrated in one. This is how the charging system generate so much voltage and amperage. Referring to the picture of the two magnets to the right, the magnet to the left side, South-North-South is on inside curve, and North-South-North is on the inside curve. And the magnet to the right side, North-South-North is on inside curve, and South-North-South is on the outside curve. If anyone tells you that there is no certain order the charging magnets are reinstalled or replaced in a flywheel, then they are wrong! If they are installed in the flywheel misaligned or not in the correct order, the charging system will NOT work. They MUST be reinstalled in the correct order with the poles (end of each magnet) opposite of each other for the charging system to work correctly. To identify which pole is which, from inside the curve of each magnet (not the outside curve), use another [strong] magnet with the magnetic poles identified and marked, or use a high quality portable handheld magnetic compass to identify the magnetic poles of each flywheel magnet. Always identify the magnetic poles from the inside curve of each magnet, and not the outside curve. By the way - When the magnetic North and South poles on a U-shaped or horseshoe magnet isn't marked or identified, to correctly find which pole is which, fasten a thin string or sewing thread to the middle of the magnet, and allow it to dangle in midair. It may take a few minutes for the string or thread to unwind so the magnet will stop spinning and come to a full rest. Make sure no other magnets are nearby. The ends of the magnet to be tested will attract to the Earth's natural North and South magnetic poles. When the poles have been identified, mark which pole is which with a Sharpie metallic silver permanent marker or paint marker for future reference. Dangling Kohler flywheel magnets by a string to identify the poles will not work. And use caution when handling ceramic (flywheel) magnets! They are very brittle and can break easily if mishandled. Do not allow them to quickly snap together or quickly attract to a large steel or cast iron object. Return to previous paragraph or website. Before installing magnet(s) in the flywheel, clean both the flywheel and outside curve of the magnet(s) thoroughly with electrical contact cleaner, brake parts cleaner, cleaning solvent or paint thinner (these leave no oily residue). Then use soap and clean water afterwards to remove any dirt or debris. When installing the magnet(s), it's important that the north and south pole ends of each magnet is in correct alignment, with the pole ends opposite of each other. When the poles physically attract, they're in the correct alignment. Use Krazy Glue, Super Glue, Gorilla Glue, or any industrial strength adhesive. Make sure the magnets are spaced equally apart upon installation, too. Go here for more information on this subject: Flywheel Magnets (http://enginesandmagnets.com/id2.html).

5 pointsConcerning the centering of the engine weight over the frame, you could use a jack shaft which would allow the engine to slide lateral on the frame. The jack will allow for alignment of the pulleys. No counter weight needed just a little engineering Just and a suggestion.

5 points@PeacemakerJack @Achto @pullstart @elcamino/wheelhorse ,Today was a big car in Lexington VA not far but not truly near from me or Bob @Machineguy where we met up with our "hotrods"... Here's a few pictures first mine then Bob's next another of his friends...a Chevy LUV for Dan...a couple wagons for Josh... A couple Elcos for Jim... A couple Squarebodys for Kevin...the rest just a lil bit of everything hope you all enjoy.

4 pointsEB, you could run a holesaw through a factory belt guard and assemble the jackshaft accordingly, if needed. Use that new welder to build the angle iron belt guard frame a bolt a new cover over your outer pulley. The brake pedal moving outward shouldn’t be affected by that design and essentially the factory brake lever has a jackshaft... from the right pedal through the frame to your brake band If the C series step interferes, you can trim the inside a bit too. They’re thick enough, you can trim as needed and still retain their rigidity. This is all thinking from memory of tearing down a C series two summers ago and after a couple quality German beverages... sorry if it doesn’t actually work out on paper

4 pointsNone that I've noticed, had to change my cloths and wash out my welding helmet. It ain't exactly love potion number 9

4 pointsWith the extra shaft and pulleys you can easily adjust the size of the pulleys for more speed or more power or just match the original gearing. If needed, the brake pedal slides on the 3/4 rod so you can move that outward from the frame if necessary. Just use 3/4 lock collars to keep it in position. Some bending of the linkage rod will probably be needed or another jack shaft type rod can be used with a couple of levers to link the rods. Basically the same idea as the pulley jack shaft.

4 pointsWhat you need is a job with good health coverage. My heart attack cost me $1200 out of pocket. My back surgery $200. If it wasn't for the coverage provided, I'd be retired.

4 pointsWell..... that C-145 may end up staying. My son and I got it running today. It needed a few things and a good carburetor cleaning but within a few hours it was running. He got about 2hrs seat time🙄 driving around and mowing. It actually mowed nicely. The hydrostatic operation made it super easy for him to use. I guess no we are considered collectors! Lol

4 pointsStarted out to the guys place that has the Wisconsin carburetor when I got sidetracked with a yard full of old farm equipment. Stopped in to introduce myself and got the grand tour. Interesting fellow, there will be more pictures along with a byline. Until then here's an interesting 1958 Fargo that's in pretty decent shape, when I showed Pat these pictures she fell in love with the old truck.

3 pointsI had motorcycle accident ,23 May of this year With Medicare supposed to pay for 80 percent of the hospital costs all the hospital has to do is not admit you but place you under observation. Imagine the surprise when I got a giant bill once my auto policy was used up They are required by law to inform you that you are under observation before 24 hours have passed. Did not happen. I also wanted to go home at least a day and a half before the doc released me because he was too busy. So just Google Medicare not paying for observation and educate yourself.as for me, I will fight tooth and nail and just keep paying ten dollars a month to keep it away from the bill collectors and maintain my credit score. Pretty much healed up so thankful for that.

3 pointsThumbing through facebook came across This interesting machine. I would like to see something like this done for my wheel horse. Has this ever been done?

3 pointsI have the transmission broken down and the case and all the gears scrubbed and have been waiting on all the parts to show up The last batch should be here tomorrow. The little steel balls for the shifter seem to be my downfall. On two different transmissions I have managed to shoot those little suckers across the shop. Its a good thing they keep them in stock because I still haven't found any of them yet I have managed to make some progress. I have blasted, primed and painted the frame and a lot of the parts that get bolted to it. I gave in and painted the frame red this time

3 pointsGas was leaking somewhere between the tank and carburetor on my 876. I would put some gas in the tank and the next day it was empty. I could not find any evidence of leaking gas and it runs great so I doubt it's in the float. I got a new shutoff from and used the new tank I got from @Ed Kennell at the big show a couple years ago. The fuel line was shot so I replaced that while it was apart. I noticed what looked like fresh oil around the governor shaft. I guess the seal is leaking

3 pointsLets see if I can keep this from going political which sometimes I may sound like but am far from being, since I am really passionate about this but here is my take on it. All our lives here we have been lucky over insured, since I belonged to the NYC United Brotherhood of Carpenters and my wife to Teachers Union .We have never paid one single dime for anything with the exception of $5.00 for any prescription drugs. Both "Gold" or "Platinum" type plans. What one did not cover the other one would pick up in full. Today for the newer generations coming into those two unions, its still great as far as today's standards go but nothing like it used to be. Luckily we are Grandfathered into the system. Nevertheless I know that that is not the case for most of us. Case and point one of my sons who does not work for a Union or employment that regularly provides medical insurance. So he gets his insurance which now mandatory through the Marketplace. Market place help? Zero because they consider that he makes enough money to pay for it himself.Cost for a plan that will somewhat give him halfway decent coverage $800.00/month. I will not go into the specifics of out of pocket and deductibles so I don't get depressed. Just for reference rent in this area $1800.00/month. You now can do the arithmetic. Question for those that know. What is someone specially our younger generation supposed to do? Go without it and hope for the best it seems to be. The majority of people in this country are not as fortunate as I am. Is it also right that one basically needs to hire an attorney when presented with the unfortunate event of hospitalization to deal with the insurance companies? Just a little comparison now if I may. 200 pills of Celebrex here in the US $400.00+/- ( same thing in Portugal $35.00 Euros). Where is Celebrex made????? Typical MRI in US? Do I have to tell you? (same thing in Portugal 125 Euros.) The above examples are of course paying yourself for the services without using their social medical system. What is wrong with these numbers? How much money is given in aid to anyone out there many of which can not stand us? Why can't we take care of our own? I was also thought early in my life that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few and always lived by it. So since I am a lucky one and therefor one of the few, i have no objections in not being so lucky so many more can live their lives with dignity and not be burdened with the mental and physical anguish of not being able to care for themselves and their loved ones because that cost is a problem. This is not about political ideologies, but about human conditions and doing what is right. The constant mentioning about costs involved to do the right things is nothing but insulting when one looks where much of the money goes.

3 points@wallfish I didn‘t know the wording „Jackshaft“, but that was also my first suggestion i meant before. It was just depending on Framelenght and Belt lenght, where it was located. With both sided Flanged Bearings, they’re mounted in long holes, it can also be adjustable to align the Belts. As an Advantage i see, that if the jackshaft is more to the Front, it can also being used with an added Pulley as direct driven PTO shaft for some later needs. I thinkin about two of the Bearings you can see in the pict middle up as proposal. in them the Axle „jackshaft“ can be clamped by 2 Screws for easy align and adjusting.

3 points@WVHillbilly520H Thanks for the photos , love the red EL , the 4 wheel drive unit I would not want unless it can with a step ladder. That is one big car show.

3 pointsGot some work done to and with both horses today. First we got some wood piled and cleaned up. I used the wagon on the 855 to move it up to the porch, and once the pieces in the pile got too small I got the 800 out with the plow and just dozed the rest up to the edge of the porch. Then I yanked the implement handle out of the 800 and got it fixed. The two forward holes had the threads all rotted out, so drill, tap, and heli-coil. Works much better now. I also got a butterfly pin for the cross shaft, so now it doesn't fall out. I still need to grease the release button and it looks like the return spring for the button is pooched, so I need to replace that yet. Then I got my HY pump fixed. I finally found and fixed that. There was a roll pin not in the whole way hitting something it shouldn't have, and not allowing full rotation of the fluid valve.

2 pointsYou almost have to have an attorney on speed dial when you use heath care! I watched the heath care insurance system change over the last ten years dramatically. With the introduction of the affordable heath care act it allowed the insurance people to really take charge. They manipulated their cost structures, allowing reduced coverage and higher deductions. A married couple no kids needs heath insurance. If their monthly gross income is 5500$, their monthly premium for a bronze plan level of insurance is just north of 1200$. If you do a little math, that is 21 plus percent of their income, affordable hardly. A real issue, for sure. Oh, and by the way, try to use the insurance, the first 7k is on you and it will take three weeks for pre approval! Farmer you mentioned Medicare, it is scary how they are running around touting "Medicare for all". If the ACA is any indication of what can happen, any good left in the Medicare system certainly will be washed away. The result of "ruling a country you don't live in."

2 pointsThe pump is one I got sometime ago for another purpose but not used. The fish is hanging off Sid's fishing rod.
-
2 pointsThe jack shaft can be located any where. Drop it straight down or even in front of the engine but below the frame rail.

2 pointsOut for a cruise today ! Too hot to mow, too dry for grass to grow! All I can do is ride around ! Sorry for the nasty seat but the original one that goes on this tractor is Tucked away saftley! Its in perfect shape and l want to keep it that way !

2 pointsDodge, the Fargo is the Canadian sister. Check this out, found while researching the year of the old farm truck. This is a very rare model of the Fargo called the Sweptside.
