6 pointsI was 75% certain this tractor wasn't used hard when I saw the add. Now that I'm in this it's 100% The carbon deposits in the combustion chamber were minimal, I was anxious to get a look at the stamp on the piston to see if it was rebuilt. Noticed when I pulled the plug it was running rich .....after pulling the air cleaner may have found why . Don't think the blades were ever off the deck . This is basically a 1 owner tractor ..a church , the person I bought it from had it for a little over a week , bought it because his John Deere was down , turned out it wasn't serious fixed his green one , so he listed this . Here are some pics of the progress so far - the biggest problem this tractor has is in the hood stand, whoever was getting on and off of it was using the PTO engagement lever and steering wheel to do it . Coil wire on the plug end was so rusted can't believe it even ran . I did almost no cleaning on this very little dirt anywhere I tear into it . New fuel line , filter, shut off valve and oils are done . Next up is the hood stand - back marker lights - new fuse holders- washers , nylon bushings and spring on the PtO lever - grease zerks on the pedals and I found some headlight bezels thanks @CasualObserver clean the carb few other odds and ends This is gonna be my go to tractor when it's done ...can tell that already

6 pointsMy driveway and I maintain the 250 yd. private road... by myself. I've never asked for any compensation and none is ever offered by the 10 other residences who use it. In other words - screw them if they don't like it. Lol...

5 pointsCertainly two is better than one ! One for dethatching and one with the front end bucket (Johnny Bucket) which by the way is worth every penny and more. You can't think of enough chores for this accessory. The 86/310 ( bought new) pulling the dethatcher and the 79/C81 with the bucket . Anyone who thinks this J Bucket is too expensive must own stock in Motrin ! Next up , dethatch the front yard then poke holes in the lawn and seed. By the way I brought all the thatch into the backwoods and gave it to the Rabbits where they live. They sent me a thank you card ! PS, over by the small barn with the doors open you can see the 2004 / 315-8 which is specifically used to cut the lawn. Three is obviously better than two !

5 pointsWhat's coming through some pictures on the inter-web and found this one of a bicycle motor with a K91! That's the kind I like no peddling involved !
-
5 pointsYes you did read that right!. You may or may not of noticed I've not been on this fine forum in over 6 months.. One of those moments that makes you put life on hold happened. That moment was when my Wife was told she had breast cancer!! 6 months of tears, tests, scans, radiotherepy and sheer panic later she thankfully came out the otherside cancer free (not cured as there is no cure).. During that 6 months as you would expect I didn't spend much time in the workshop, and when I was there I wasn't really getting anything done... It's taken a while to admit defeat, but my body just can't cope with the pain that building "big" stuff creates.. I just can't do it anymore! The next step up painkiller wise would turn me into a zombie , somewhere I've been before and DON'T want to go again.. So, I've given notice at the workshop and have been gathering materials to build (with a lot of help) a small workshop in my garden to do "smaller" bits of engineering.. I will post a new thread about a small project that I managed to do that I enjoyed making so much it's kinda pointed me in the direction I should go... So yes, UkWheelHorseBloke is hanging up he's spurs, but he will still be making videos of the things I'm building

4 pointsBet that thing hauls a$$ with the way it's geared up and it better to keep the engine cool. That engine looks like it belongs, kinda old school motor bike. As much as I like dangerous stuff that one could really be a problem if it catches your pants but I would still take it for a spin anyway.

4 pointsThanks guys. I don't usually get cranked up about my birthday but this year is different. Lola and I just reached 25 wonderful years together on the 16th and we are going to celebrate by spending too much on a 1 night getaway to Wrigley field for a night game against the sin cinati reds. Then walk across the street to the way too expensive Zachary hotel and return tomorrow on the California zephyr which I was a brakeman/Conductor on for 3 years back in the early 80s. Hard to imagine now but I was in Chicago Illinois and Burlington iowa the same day 7 days a week for 3 years till I opted back to freight service. Will post a few pics during our trip. Thanks again for thinking of us today.
-
4 pointsThanks Billy that is a good recommendation and I appreciate it. Let's keep in mind here EB nor I ain't exactly lookin to build a lye generator to start nuclear fusion nor want flux capacitors for time travel ... we just are lookin for a basic welder to stick our front weights on with. Farmer welds might be a key word here...just sayin... I'm thinkin stay the advice of our elders here EB and look for a older tombstone to lay down some beads. Get one, practice frying eggs and you will be ok.

3 pointsYeah Richie, did you toss a magnet at it? We should keep one tied onto a Mickey Mouse pole for random checks!

3 pointsyou know Dan... One would almost get the impression that you're not fond of flux core welding...
-
3 pointsI would sooner use my old P.O.S. Solar with gas than use a brand new Miller with flux core.
-
3 pointsFor some reason that just strikes me funny. I wish you wouldn't hold your feelings back so much Dan. is it wrong that I am picturing you driving around your front lawn on some kind of a Wheelhorse with your arms flailing about over your head?

3 pointsThe model number for your Zenith carburetor is on that round disc with the rivet in the middle on the top of the carb. I can see the disc in your photo. Carefully remove the paint & the carb number is there! -JD-

3 pointsI popparazzied these trucks around town yesterday and thought I’d share. The black-ish truck “US Border Patrol” I’ve seen here and there, the red and blue ones were just random sights. I’d love to have a classic 3+3 Chevy or GMC some day, but Norman does just fine for now! FYI, when I see these on the road, I guesstimate their location in accordance to the iPad, shoot a bunch of pictures and look for good ones later. Safety is number one
-
3 pointsFlux core SUCKS!!! It is a very messy weld with a lot of spatter. If your going to buy a wire feed welder make sure that it is capable of using gas as some do not have this capability. The one & only advantage to flux core is that you can weld out side on a windy day.

2 pointsCan not find much information on these little mowers. I did see dtallon's thread a few years ago but that seems to be the only other photos or information about them around. I saw it listed on Craigslist and went and scooped it up. Figured it would look good sitting next to the RR-65 I already own. BTW still looking for a replacement gearbox for it. Any info on these little " work horses" ? Are there many around? Why did Wheel Horse even come up with the Work Horse name and different paint? Dosnt seem to be of the same quality or craftsmanship of the traditional Wheel Horse name. Between this one and the REO RR-65 I am starting my own miniature horse farm.

2 pointsHi Eric, While i do my Testweldings with different technics and after i welded my FEL, i liked the wire support even with Flux Core. That is surely a bit more cost intensine, but handling is definitely much easier. The smoke while Welding i found, is more less the same between Stick and Fluxcore. Even it looks on some Vid‘s differently. For quick Gas Weldings i used a Soda Club CO2 Bottle with an refilladapter, that fits to a normal Gas Armature. so i be able to weld Few Parts without the cost of a full Weldinggasbottle, a Sodaclub is allway‘s in spare. at light breeze i increased a bit the Flowrate, what was enough. Started with 10l/min and on light breeze i increased to 12 or 14l/ min. I also used @WVHillbilly520H tipp, used my Body as Windshield what worked fine for me. As you know, i just can Weld outside because of Space, i just store the Welder in Shed.

2 pointsHit 'em first with the sandblaster... just to knock the large scale off...maybe 10 minutes of time for all four rims. Then yes, majority of what you see in the before pict... was achieved with the my needle gun...maybe another 20 minutes time for all four rims. Spent 1/2 hour tonight on the one side you see above... using the old school method I'm sharing here. I'll continue this process... a few more times before I'm happy with 'em, I'm sure.

2 pointsNot saying it's in the league with the 480 volt machines I use at work but read the reviews especially the one supposedly from the professional pipe welder who was thoroughly impressed with this unit.

2 pointsImportant things to consider, insulation class and duty cycle. Duty cycle is a welding equipment specification which defines the number of minutes, within a 10 minute period, during which a given welder can safely produce a particular welding current. For example, a 150 amp. welder with a 30% duty cycle must be "rested" for at least 7 minutes after 3 minutes of continuous welding. Here are the specs for that multi purpose welder. GMAW/FCAW Rated Output: 120V; 90A @ 40% Duty Cycle; 22A Input 240V; 200A @ 15% Duty Cycle; 36A InputSMAW Rated Output: 120V; 70A @ 40% Duty Cycle; 24.9A Input 240V;170A @ 15% Duty Cycle; 33.6A InputGTAW Rated Output: 120V; 90A @ 40% Duty Cycle; 20.8A Input 240V; 200A @ 15% Duty Cycle; 28.7A InputAmperage range: 120V; 30-140A (GMAW/FCAW), 30-70A (DC SMAW), 20-90A (DC GTAW); 240V; 30-200A (GMAW/FCAW), 30-170A (DC SMAW), 20-200A (DC GTAW)

2 pointsMine were yellow jackets in a huge ground nest in ferns, but after getting stung twice and unloading four cans of spray into a huge nest with zero results I had to call in the big gun$.
-
2 pointsMany of us have traveled that road Ian, I did 9 years ago when my wife had breast cancer but we beat it and she is cancer free today praise the Lord! Remember He will not give you more than you can go through with His help! I pray for your wife and your health. Bob
-
2 pointsIan, I will hold you and your wife in prayer for good health. Your input on this site is appreciated by all of us and we look forward to learning from and laughing with you in the future.

2 pointsMy Prayers with you, and i agreed, importantst thing in your (our) Life is Family. Several years ago firstly my Grandpa dies a week later Grandmom, another week later my Father on Stomac Cancer and few weeks later my mom gets diagnosis lymph gland cancer, what can‘t normally healing. That rips me the Way below the Feets and pushes me completely out of the Way i did before, because this was the importantst people in my Life. My mom did a overheating Therapy, and she survived the Cancer (this is now 12Years ago.) A look back in my old life seems completely impossible, but i had a close contact to my Mom. I know about the Tears and pains you told about. After 9 years she was handled as Cancer free, but a bad taste is in every sniff, because se feels more sick than any other and Panic still occurs in her at such situation. I wish you the Strentgh and the Base you need, to come up again. Even best convalescent wishes to your Wife. My Prayers are still with you, to keep up your head and give you the Force you need in this Situation. Do things you like, even if they can be done together, but do also few things for yourself, where you can get the Recreation you need to be strong. Don‘t mutate to a zombie, just do it your Way and in your liked speed.

2 pointsIan, I was just thinking about you reading a previous post about something. Engine rebuild, or tires or something. I’ve missed your projects and comments on others’ but family is most important! Take care of you and yours, and I’m glad to hear your wife’s cancer is in remission!
-
2 pointsIan, that is sad news all the way around. Cancer free is very good though, but the road there is long and hard for sure. We sure hope you don't become a stranger here on Red Square. I know I have enjoyed countless hours enjoying your videos and talking with you on Skype. My prayers to you and yours...and good to hear from you.
-
2 pointsSorry to hear this Stig...as they say when you get dealt lemons make lemonade! Keep you spirits up and our prayers are with you! Just cause you can't do builds anymore is no excuse to not drop by and say hello every now and then. Always glad to have you!
-
2 pointsI can't answer for you what it would be worth but I would absolutely not give something like that to any family that makes things disappear. Just too rare of a bird. Actually, I'm kind of old school.... I would probably not give ANYTHING to a family that makes things disappear....
-
2 pointsWent through it.... runs great mows real nice. Washed it off real good and even waxed it. Detailed the engine. Now I am not sure if I want to pull the deck off and give it to my nephew to drive around in or sell it. I love to give it to my nephew but things tend to disappear once they go over to his house. What do you guys think these little things are worth?
-
2 pointsThanks Garry, those will come in handy. Right now it seems to run pretty good. Not sure what I want to do with it. I live in the city and have no need for a riding mower of any size but here I am with another one. Waiting for help to get it out of the back of my truck so I can go over it. I am finishing up my cancer treatment, 33 rounds of radiation to the head and neck takes its toll on you. Funny how there isnt any photos or much information on these. If it wasnt for everyone here I wouldnt find any Thank You Red Square
-
2 pointsThanks! Made more progress in last couple weeks. Made a cut-out and cover (from cut-out) for battery, Trans cover out of Craftsman louvered hood, re-did steering bell crank and pitman arm for THE 3RD TIME - and I have determined that the 3rd time really is the charm. I also got the clutch assembly mounted and a nice working linkage to a clutch pedal. Have belt installed with keepers on both drive / driven pulleys. This past Sunday I got brake caliper mounted, and now need to make a brake pedal and mech. linkage to master cyl. The list is getting shorter week by week. Hoping to transfer wire harness today and get brake working.
