9 points@Chris G came out from New York to our house in the mountains of Maine to pick up the green farm tractor model. I'm really happy that he's gotten ahold of it and I think he will do great things with it. I'm very much looking forward to some sort of build thread or pictures that he might post in the future.

8 pointsFall harvest came early this year. The corporate farmer usually doesn't pick the corn until mid October. But, they were picking early this morning. Many farmers in the area have switched from corn and soybean to hemp farming. This may have an affect in the corn prices and harvest times. I spent the morning clearing some trails. Hung a couple tree stands. Cleared out my favorite ground blind. My Amish neighbor was busy picking pumpkins. Time to head home for lunch.

6 pointsSo my Gt1600 plow machine was needed for a project at my sons house today. If you saw my post yesterday about mouse damage...well my electrical tape repair worked without issue! The previous owner was dumping all their yard waste and who knows what else right in the middle of the yard up against a nice stone retaining wall. It was a major eyesore! Used the plow to bust up the pile, move it closer to my trailer to load it and eventually haul it to the dump. Then graded it all and finished up with grass seed and hay. Huge improvement!

6 pointsMy son did some last minute tire swapping before the tractor pull tomorrow.

5 pointsThat is a brace used by electricians to route wiring through top and bottom wall plates. If two studs would be close enough to not allow full swing with a standard brace this would be used.

4 pointsI’ve been reading a bit at a time on smoke breaks. Looks good so far!! Looking forward to how it comes along once Trina has time to finish it 😂😂 I like the square hood look, with kinda what we’d talked about with it being split hood with ammo can latches to secure it, but I’m using that one myself at some point 😂😂 That said, the black hood would give it a bigger , beefier look that’ll match its feet once you get the big tires on it.

4 pointsLil bit of red paint and a matching trailer and this would be the perfect horse hauling machine!

4 pointsYou're a gentleman and a scholar. Richie my friend, that would be absolutely fantastic. I didn't even know there was such a thing as longer axles that would go into an 8 speed without difficulty until this morning. That would give Colossus a great stance and a little added extra safety bonus. Thank you very much. @953 nut my apologies for stealing your thread for a few posts. Thank you.

4 pointsI have a set you can have for the cost of shipping. I’ll dig them out this weekend. How’s that @ebinmaine Eric?

4 pointsHello all! I too recently acquired a 1969 GT-14 that has been gifted to me by my retiring father. We mechanically restored it in the late eighties as I was finishing high school. At that time it frequently mowed an acre of our four acres a week. When I went to college my father restored an old Ferguson tractor and mowed all with that and the wheel horse was a backup and garden tiller. Each season the gas was treated or run dry and the oil was changed. 2019 and it still pops right off (as right off as the old cast iron 14hp kohler do) but you know what I mean. I am new to forums and seeking some wisdom as well. My machine is mostly complete and running. It has a tiller and I have successfully restored the mower deck. My main problem is the steering wheel and it is missing the directional pulleys under the tractor that would complete the mowing setup. I cannot find that part or any diagram so I could fabricate something. I am fairly certain that the original setup was gone when my father acquired it and he subsequently fabricated pulleys to make it work. Sorry for the long post, any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. I have my old buddy back. I will post pictures as soon as I figure that out. Not a great interweb person. Better with old machines. Thanks Ken

4 pointsI know Mom's been in rehab so she must not have gotten out my party invitation. Yeah, that's it. Almost missed my Brother's birthday. For your birthday, I worked 12 hours yesterday to add a little more to the Social Security fund. Spend it wisely!

4 pointsExcellent! Will do thanks for the info fellas. She will get a top to bottom this winter. Best mower I have ever owned hands down. Tim

3 pointsOk... I have some time so I’ll think about this, so I’ll do my best without reference or being near the tractors. 3 pointsHappy Birthday my friend. Hope you have many more together with your charming wife. If we were closer we would be sipping together, so just have another sippy cup next to yours for me.
-
3 pointsI’ve got a feeling that Rylee’s Screamin’ Jimmy has had an axle transplant using something wider... It’s got a super wide stance compared to Jada’s or any other of our 60’s tractors.
-
3 pointsGlad to hear you made it out of that one ok. I’ll take a bruise over a broken bone any day. I wish I would have known you needed an axle as I have some in the storage unit. Just glad you are alright. 👍
-
3 pointsTrue. Funny thing is... When Trina paints our stuff she ... Literally... Hangs them out to dry on our laundry line.
-
3 pointsHappy Birthday @stevasaurus, we are all glad you were born! Well, most of us anyway.

3 points@Chris G and I were looking at the tractor and the offset. I really do want to keep the engine sideways like a Wheelhorse. He and I both had the same idea which is to do the build and get it "whole" then weigh the front tires individually. Add weight as needed to the lighter side as also suggested by others of you. With the terrain around here and the loads I'd be pulling... MORE weight in my case is definitely a plus.
-
3 pointsIMO, the shaker plates did nothing to decrease vibration and may have made it worse as the rubber mounts deteriorated. Wheel Horse must have realized this as they went back to solid mounts very quickly.
-
3 pointsSince I had to remove so much sheet metal from the GT-14 to remove and repair the transmission I decided to spray some IH RED and make it look more presentable.
-
3 pointsI have located an axle and it should be here today! Thanks Tyson @Shuboxlover, you saved the day! Having a bit of down time and having had to remove so much sheet metal I decided a little beauty treatment was in order for the GT-14. Previous owner had painted it an orangey red color I wasn't too fond of.

3 pointsWe are good here in Florida. Itylike 300 degrees out with the humidity and the sun cooking you. As for the NC location, no house yet. Momma is living with her son. They are getting a lot of rain and some wind. Still waiting for her weather report this morning. The Lord sure watched over us on this one.
-
2 pointsThe Left rear axle looks like it is sticking out more than it should. Do you know if the lift works? Wonder if the transmission problem is a broken axle? Could you push it with the tow valve closed?
-
2 pointsMy Dad's 314-8 has the worn out shock/strut on the clutch pedal. The strut is expensive to replace and requires some tear down to access it. I found on the forum that I could add the 108035 spring like the older tractors to solve the problem. I dreamed up this homemade tool one evening to install the new spring. It may be old news to some of y'all that may have already thought of this. But it worked like a charm. I removed the left rear wheel for better access. Just an eye hook and a piece of dowel rod.

2 pointsInstalled new fuel line, fuel filter and a new air filter. Also installed the new solid engine mounts from Zach Kerber. What a difference!! There’s actually less vibes now. I had 2 bad rubber isolators and the engine shook all over. Not anymore! i also made a stack from a cheap TSC muffler but it’s way to loud for yard work. My stocker rotted out and was melting my air filter. I may try one of jimkemps when he gets a few more made. I wish I could really get it quiet.

2 pointsLoosen the idler pulley First # 1 the move pulley back with #2

2 pointsI will give you what I've got to add to Paul's. The flat idler slides forward in the slot to tighten the belt.

2 pointsMy 1977 had bottom of the base of the hood and dash support to crack on the lift handle side. I welded it. What i found was there were hole in the frame for two more bolts but there wasn't any in the base support. I drilled them added two 3/8" bolts to the rear of the base and haven't had a problem with it since. It was twenty five years old when it cracked.y In my opinion the early C-Series were the toughest Wheel Horses ever made and also the easiest to change attachments.. I don't have any Blackhoods but I'm sure they have more problems the the early C-Series. They are still a tough Wheel Horse and the few problems can be fixed. Solid engine mount are available. The problem with the rear mounted can be fixed with an electric fuel pump, or if your cheap by closing the fuel shut off at the tank after shutting off the engine. I used both methods electric pump on the 520 and shut off the tank valve on the 312-8. My C-120/180 I also close the tank shut off and run it out of gas to keep any gas from draining back and getting into the crankcase. If I had the choice of buying a C-160 or a C-161 both in good condition I would just buy both. I have always wanted a Blackhood and would never turn down a good C-160.

2 points1960's Austin A 60 - 65. I had one but the van. Fitted an MGB cylinder head and carb's to it. Went quite well but the road holding left something to be desired.

2 pointsAldon did the thread on widening an 8 speed in his GT-22 thread. I have a 3 speed transmission that came out of a C-81 that has wider than normal axles. I’ll snap a pic and measurement when I get home.

2 pointsDo not use dryer sheets. i tried them the mouse used it as part of his nest in a C-175. Went to start it, it started to turn over then stopped dead. Dryer sheet got wrapped around the bendix and fly wheel. had to to tow her up to the shop pull all the tins and starter motor. dryer sheets are incredibly strong. yes you can tear them length wise but try cross wise. Had to use an xacto knife needle nose pliers and lot of 4 letter words to get it cleaned out.

2 pointsWe could also be totally overthinking this. Back to your original post, we’re talking about 38 lbs over a 12 horse. That could be the difference in where your cheeks kiss the seat? The majority of the huge factor of that K532 appears to be related to the cooling tins and flywheel. Maybe 20% (guessing) of that extra 38 lbs is further to the left? Are we just splitting hairs and bench racing? I like Stefan’s idea of finding where the weight is with a simple balance test, but if it were my project, I’d align the pulleys and run it. Maybe you could space the trans pulley out a bit, or find a pulley with an inside collar to help a bit, but I bet that’s overkill. If ya need me to, I could yank the one off my cheap auction generator and stick it in this C-81 so we can have twins and I’ll stick it on a set of race car scales
