Made a stop at a tractor/machinery graveyard that I haven’t been to in years. I'm looking for something in particular (WH of course) but unfortunately I didn’t find it here today. The weeds in some places are eye-brow high so it’s possible what I want is hiding in those weeds. So I’ll make another trip there in November when they have all died off. But I did snap a couple pics.

I don't even have to think about it Get the 79 as long as it runs it's a bigger heavier more capable machine and you've got two implements with it. Even if it needs work it's just a better value.

Probably someone here has tried this and I am wondering if it made any difference. I drilled a 7/64 hole in a steering tie rod just above the ball and used a needle greaser to lube the joint. I know they make some swivels with fitting but I thought I would try one and see how it worked out. Did not notice any easier steering but might prevent a wear out.

Now the old tractors... A mostly complete but non running 953. It has some cobbler items like the Cub steering wheel and the fishing boat seat. I have most of the sheet metal for it. @953 nut Dick can you verify these serial numbers for me when you get a chance? The owner tells me he won’t separate the tractors or all the stuff that they come with... Tractor number two is a 1054 that has a Patina @Shynon would love! the decals are gone and it has thick Patina everywhere but the K241 runs AMAZINGLY well, hydraulics work great as it was attached to a grader blade when I arrived. It also came with with several well worn mower decks, and two push blades—one big one and one HUGE one! I was in a hurry to get everything loaded and make it back home before dark and so I didn’t really get a chance to look over everything well yet...

Here’s the story—I have a pair of friends (Dale and Cindy) that I have known for about 20 years. Dale is suffering from Alzheimer’s and is dying from complications with his heart. He is in his mid 70’s. Cindy has the burden of caring for him and maintaining their property. She is an active “can-do” woman and wants to do as much as she can. She asked me to take a look at her lawn mower that she uses to maintain their property. It is an older “throw away JD” and needs a lot of work to get it functional. So, I asked her if she would be open to allowing me to find one for her. I got a tip from a buddy on this 418-A that seems like it will work our well for her. I negotiated a price with the PO and then planned the two hour run down to get it. Then he asks me a classic question that we fans love to hear, “You wouldn’t be interested in any more Wheel Horses would you?”...

The 656 in my opinion wins in cool factor, but not practical. Without a belt guard, and a non-factory engine option, who knows how many times the gears have been grinded to shift the poor thing! That C series is a beast of a machine and well worth the coin with the accessories.

Was originally going to make steam to distill essential oils using the old Lister generator but have decided to build a wood fired boiler instead. As this project makes progress will post pictures and such into this thread. Below my first purchase, a sight glass to observe the water level inside the boiler. The two valves, should the sight glass accidentally be broken these valves can be closed to preserve water and internal pressure inside the boiler allowing continued operation until the glass has been replaced. On the boiler shell two more taps are installed, one is place at the absolute low water lever with the other placed where the upper top water level should be, should the sight glass become broken then the taps are used manually to observe. The boiler is never filled completely to the top with water, the upper half is for steam generation. Made in the USA, a pair of threaded rods are missing from the sight glass. The stays keep the valves from expanding under pressure thus keeping the sight glass intact.

I must admit I missed the third wheel....nice eyes! I still don't like green eggs and ham....Sam

Like Chris said, absolutely. It would lose some steam crossing land but once it hits the gulf it would intensify again looking for the next target. Right now they are predicting for it to come ashore and turn north going up the state. At this point, everything is no more than an educated guess. They are getting better at forecasting but these things don't watch TV and do whatever they want.

We used the fine White Arkansas stones to hand rework the large hydro turbine "18 - 30" journals at the plant, when the shaft wasn't being shipped off for other repairs. If we needed to work out a scratch or something we used "crocus cloth " Crocus cloth is an abrasive sheet similar to sand paper or emery cloth but covered with a layer of very fine loose iron oxide particles rather than with bound grains of abrasive. It is intended for final metal and gemstone finishing and is available in various grades (particle sizes).

Well , the bandage is off and the right eye tested at 20/25. Not a perfect 20/20 like the left eye, but I'll take it. Yep, I see ya now Craig, and w/o glasses. I do plan to see you all in June Richard. I have a couple more tractors to deliver for Dell and Emory.

Today‘s Plan was to build a new Roof. Precutted the Parts and talk to our Welder, i wanna do a bit Training after Work in Aluminum Tig. 1/2 hour later he brings me the Welded Roof.🤔 i‘m sure thankful, because he do it every Day, but my Training was done 😎 However, the result looks like this Then i drove home and had some troubles to get it out of the car. i fit‘s sucked in... after releasing, i did a first Try of look. not bad at all and i firstly painted the lower section, to be able to mount, ahead i drilled the holes. Than i cleaned the rest of Surface and Painted it the Color is nearly similar to the Tractor, just a smal bit darker. let‘s dry the Paint. Fired up the Griller.... Time for Lunch..

You bet it can, I've already got my 90 gallons of propane and heading out this morning for 50 gallons of gas. Got two gens one is gas the other is a duel fuel, gas and propane, a 10,000 btu window AC ready to go, once you spend 13+ day with out electricity in 90+ degree days (done that twice) you learn what you need and have it ready. But if a cat4 is heading up your front door you get it all ready, and get your ass out of there!!

I’m restoring a 81 C-125 and the mounts are shot. I contacted Zack Kerber to see if he was interested in making some for the Wheel Horse guys. The Cub solid mounts are different and won’t work. He told me to send a old mount in and this is what he came up with. He modeled them from the stock mount and they fit perfect. Not sure if they are on his web site yet.

That one looks like a 1054A, nice haul get them new plow dogs ready to go

Ed, that might be the best solution in the long run. The deck on the tractor with the plow is in like new shape. I’d like to hold onto it for the day when my older deck on my mower Wheel Horse (1067) craps out. In the meantime, I have no room to store it and I want a plow on the SK-486 to help with the driveway on those days when there’s not enough snow to use the blower. Keeping the deck on the tractor with the plow has the side benefit of giving me an additional 200lbs to offset not having wheel weights. Lastly the wood plow is slightly shorter than a standard Wheel Horse plow, it weighs much less, and it rides a quarter inch above the driveway so there is no scraping against the new concrete. As long as I haven’t created something that will damage the tolerances of the tractor, I’m kinda interested to see whether this concoction will solve all of these variables.

It may work, but if you don't use the deck, why not trade it for a WH plow that you can lift and angle. You can add wheel weights or fill the tires with washer fluid.

My vote is with the rest of the gang. The '79 hands down. Too many Frankin add on's on the 656.

The rods that run down alongside the gauge glass aren’t holding anything. They just protect the glass from being struck and broken by accident. Be careful with your project. You’re the first person I’ve seen build a boiler and start with a gauge glass. 😁

Not a problem yet, it's a small chance that Northwest Fl. will be affected so no lines yet. After 50+ years of dealing with these things you learn when to get you stuff together, gas and water at least 5 day before it's suppose to hit. June get everything you need ready that is not perishable, then when the first one get close to the islands, or lately in the gulf getting you gas and use stabilizer. Then start get water, bread, and other food items. If you do this you will have plenty of time to get ready for it instead of standing in line or driving all over looking for gas, water, and bread.

Good point! For that I have - and dont remember where I got them - a set of maybe 8-10 square/oval/round/etc hand held stones in various colored grits. They may have been from a machining catalog??

Twenty seven years ago I lived in Homestead, FL when Andrew devastated the area. I pray that the forecasters are incorrect, and if not I pray for the safety of all those affected by this storm. Our son and granddaughter live in the Palm Beach are and my sister in-law lives in St Augustine, FL so we have a couple of specific prayers for safety going up to God.

Hopefully it downgrades or changes direction and heads out into open water. Fingers crossed 🤞

I’ll be praying for you, my friend, that God will bring you safely through whatever this storm brings with it! I also will be praying for those other souls in the path of this hurricane. These can be so devastating and certainly dangerous.

Do Mini's run an internal resistor coil, or do they have a ballast resistor or some sort of resistor wire? If its an internal resistor coil you're good to put it on. The coil that is currently on it should not get that hot in that short period of time. A coil built for an external resistor will get extremely hot quickly if it gets a full 12v to it. This could very likely contribute to your weak spark. I suppose if you put a Mini coil on there and it fries it, you might could mend it with this product. Lol!

Obviously Nancy & I are out of harms way now but our daughter & family are in the target zone and only 20 miles inland. When they said it could hit land as a cat 4 she started crying. Our prayers are with everybody down there. Stay safe my friend.
