What a great day here at Pioneer Power. Had some participation in the parade and closed out the day with a corn boil courtesy of Lowell and Joette@wheelhorseman and some deliciously cooked chicken from Mike and Tom @prondzy @Shynon Hello... 5 dozen ears..... by Lowell's count just about right for nine people! We ended up inviting over the neighbors too. followed up by fire in Joe's custom portable firepit. Lowell also took his cooking on the road... smoking a tri-tip cruising in the Farm Handy!

Not bad for a piece of screwed up extruded Acrylic plastic and a decal that looks like OEM. Painted the assy box silver.

Here is the back story written on the day the axle let go. If this had occurred on level ground it would have been an inconvenience. However, our driveway has an elevation change of eighty five feet in three hundred feet with a couple of turns. I was driving my GT-14 down my Very Steep driveway when the right axle decided to work its way out of the differential (guess the snap ring came off). With that the began picking up speed rapidly. My guesstimate is that the GT-14 was traveling about 30 MPH by the bottom of the driveway! I lowered the FEL bucket but it didn't help much. I didn't want to hit a tree because the sudden stop would hurt for sure. I rode it out until it crossed the road and headed for the creek. As it approached the ditch I bailed off, when I got up I saw it sitting harmlessly at the edge of the creek. My neighbor and I pulled it back to the barn (had to jack it up and shove the axle in a couple times). God was watching over me for sure! I will have a little black eye and have a few bruises, but considering how it could have ended I feel blessed. Disney has nothing on me! Don't have any pictures, don't even ask! I Know, I Know, that means it never happened.

Just a couple pics to show our lawn at camp.(about 3.5 acres to mow) The Wheel Horse 520XI did great as usual (568 hours) while the JD 575x sputtered again mid mow, but smoothed out (2780 hours) My brothers and my nephew destroyed the Toro's deck a few years ago... We replaced the shell and new spindles/ deck wheels / blades. Man does it cut nice! It is a 48". Cory

I put the Deestone 10.5 wide on my tractor. Very nice tire for the money but their sizing runs on the smaller side. I was hoping for a wider tire.

Well, the search ended a little sooner than I thought. Ed Kennell messaged me about having a C160 that hed gotten recently. Turns out, he only lives about 50 miles from me. I drove down this afternoon, took a look at it, and its a nice tractor, and comes with a blower that looks like it probabaly was really never used. His price was fair too based on what I've learned here and what I've seen on craigslist and Facebook market place. Always nice to make connections with people online. I am sure as I own it I will be here to ask for advice on keeping it going.

It’s been about 8 years but I’m back in the fold with a “new” tractor. My first WH was a GT1800 hydro I put way too much money into only to have the 18 horse Briggs die. That was taken out to the grandads farm and then inadvertently junked by a careless in-law. This tractor is a 312-A. I paid $0 for it, a blessing from a co-worker who knew my interest and had no use for it. I hope to salvage the transaxle and pump from the GT to hopefully swap in when this Eaton 700 craps out.

I picked up my items I won from an online auction yesterday. the GT14 was $2, trailer was $7, jack stands were $1, air compressor was $19, and mower deck was $10 for a grand total of $39 The trailer is very heavy. I had to winch it on my trailer and when I flipped it off the trailer at home the axle broke from the weight I didn't notice but the engine block on the GT14 had a hole in it. Maybe a re-power in the future I crossed a covered bridge on the way home

Okay guys, it took longer than I planned (it seems that is the norm...) to get the decals on and get some pictures taken. But I got it done. I modified the hinge mounting points to make the hood fit correctly, and made new brass bushings for them. I applied the decals a couple weeks ago, and they went on without a problem, and look great! The rest of the paint on the tractor is some color my Brother put on it when he restored it over 20 years ago. One day, I will find the time to make it entirely Regal Red, but this tractor is a worker, and the two tone paint has not kept it from working! Here are the results:

Pushed a little dirt today with lRV. I still could use a little more traction but it did quite well!!

Got it. Welded a small bolt on to give me something to grab and/or get a chisel on.

Darb' nailed it as far as I'm concerned for an older sling type non pressured engine. Change it when you're supposed to, or even earlier, and these old Kohler beasts will give you many hours trouble free.

The Field Testing Crew spent yesterday fly-specking the trailer... Passed with flying colors!

Hello Elliot ...please do follow.. amount of oil is about a quart and a half + or - I fill thru the shifter hole till it just comes out the actual left rear fill hole. Little more is no going to hurt anything. Charlie follow Richard's advice on the bearings. DO NOT try and blast them. If they are are gone they are gone but luckily there are replacements these days. Sounds like the the fellas got you coached properly on the rest of bearings. Good luck The only hard part is cleaning all that old crap off. Just a sample of what I have dealt with ....but here is what I ended up with. Thank you fellas!

I have moved my business to a new location. I now have room to expand and offer more for my customers. My new address is 695 E Rehrersburg Road, Bethel PA 19507. At my new location I am going to have a store stocked with your wheel horse parts and part for most small engines. I will add some pictures when I get more of the moved finished.

A couple months ago the right rear axle on my GT-14 let lose! My presumption was that the snap ring had broken allowing the axle to come out. I finally got around to tearing into it and this is what I found. Fortunately there was no other damage done and I will be replacing bearing and seals to freshen it up. I'll post the back story later. Guess I need another axle! I have posted a "Wanted Ad" in our classified section, but if anyone has a good GT-14 Right Rear axle (15") or a "D" axle (16.5") they would be willing to part with please PM me and let me know.

Today's oils are so good if you keep it full and clean I think your in good shape. I do like the heavy weight in hot weather and lighter in the winter. Keep it clean!!

It's not cheap but they don't ware out. 3500# 5 lug hubs and wheels. I drilled the new spindles and cut off the originals put the over the originals and welded them up.

Hello, all. Looking in to possibly taking a long trip to get this rig. More or less all there and running. I like the fact that it's shorter then the usual models, and the engine is rigid to the rear end of the tractor. However I can't say I have ever seen a gas powered model .. sure looks like a WH impeller housing and decal. But I see no remnants of the original belt drive these all seemed to have. On that note. Does anyone here have one of the WH vacs? Are they as powerful as the Trac Vac and other models? Impellet housing looks about the same size so I figure it'll do just as good as the one I had some years ago.

Doing few inspections today after the Trip from Yesterday. Firstly i checked all the joints, if somwhere was a weak point. But nothing found, Than i greased the whole 3 Point. Tyres are good but how is the Pressure? Yesterday while Diggin i found in front left wheel a bit Air was missing. FL 0,8 Bar increades to 1,2 Bar FR 1.0 Bar increased to 1,2 Bar. RL 1,0 Bar - looks good RR 1,1 Bar deflating to 1,0 Bar inspected the Seat Holder, if troubles occur, but nothing. Than i drove back in Frontyard after Mowing with the Horse. doing again some Stresstests with the FEL. all seems fine and i decide it‘s time to clean and Paint the Frontend. Click out the Shovel and prepare with rust protection, after drying, add some Paint. whiles it goes easier, i droped the Shovel. Cool how that works. Still thinkering on the Tilt mount on the Quickchanger, how to stiffning. Few ideas i thinkering has their advantages and disadvantages. After Work i polish the Hood and readjusted the Frontlights, to shine a bit more ahead. I love the Quickchanger, it was a good decision to implement to the Beast.

I work in plastic sheet extrusion and It was some scrap plastic I brought home from work years ago. Its not suppose to look that way, the waves in the sheet wont allow to see through. So thought it would be good to use for privacy window type app but never used it. I have some small sheets of it still.

Did you have that proverbial clean pair of shorts handy? Glad you are ok ! Sounds alot like a bobcat l rented when l built my house a few years back. It let loose went down a steep hill and in the creek below. I rode it out!! Weee!!

This GT-14 was owned by a landscaping company and used with a front end loader and landscape rake for about forty years prior to the time I bought it. It has a limited slip differential, wheel weights and loaded tires, it hasn't been pampered. Since the failure took place in the differential housing I don't think weight was an issue, just torque and metal fatigue.

Here is my buddy’s 312 with a pair of my Deestone 8.5’s on 502 Wheels. These are loaded with antifreeze and virtually zero air pressure, so they might be a bit on the low side.... but they have excellent grip! To compare, my 10.5’s aren’t loaded, and on the 502 the 8.5’s came off of, I have much less field traction. I really should load my 10.5’s some day...

I will defer to the Eaton guys (I am a sundstrand guy) on the hydro swap. As to front wheels you can swap them however the front of the tractor will sit a bit higher not a big deal but if you use it for mowing you may have some issues with getting the deck level. You can take the front spindles off your donor and use them.

Actually, down here I use Rotella 40w in all my small flathead engines, since 95% of the time I use them the temp outside is between 80 and a 100 degrees. Both my old flathead generators (Briggs, Tecumseh) have many hours on them (hurricanes) and still run fine, no smoke. The Briggs has over 5 weeks of almost continuous running (23hr a day) on it, with an oil change every other day. I'm sure I could go 3 days easy.

Any wider, and the possibility of no chain clearance would be an issue.

Welp, I feel silly. Got my Deestones tonight too from Amazon, but I got 8.5s and it cost me $128 shipped for the pair. Leaning them up against the 312 and I don’t think I’m going to be happy with the look, too skinny. Wish I had done 10.5 now...

Yes you can glass bead blast the Gears and shafts. I did a rusty Suburban transmission and the glass will not remove metal. Vinegar also works well but don’t use any that is over 4% acetic acid. I use some 9% on some angle iron so was cleaning up and feel it added some pitting. I’ve recently used some Evaporust and really pleased how it worked. It’s a little expensive but a good solution for delicate parts

I have some old Kohler manuals probably from the 70's and the oil recommendation is for 30wt high quality detergent oil. heard a rep from one of the engine manufacturers tell us at an update school can use the 10w30 but expect more oil consumption. Now granted that was a good while back. I do not think the K series engines were ever machined to the exacting tolerances the modern stuff is. Can one use it, sure but for me I won't in summer weather. We all do what we think is right for our own engines.

Today, I checked on the progress of the food plot that Hot Wheels helped so much with.... along with the help of Big Junky and a borrowed Mule. I am happy to see new plant life, and hope that in a couple months I’ll be using Hot Wheels to haul in the fruit of my labor! Soon, I’ll likely be mounting the 42” SD deck from the previously Charger 12 currently known as Frank and keeping the deer trails mowed now and again. Maybe instead of Putt Putt being worked by the front sickle mower project, I’ll see if Hot Wheels wants to play with that mower too! It sure would help with the PTO issue I’m hung up on in my mind...

Ok, maybe this will get us back on topic. Today I made a safety light and pole for the 312 plow tractor .

without a doubt that landscaping co and front end loader , shock / stress cracked that axle years ago, just time and torque finished it off, you are lucky that it was a clean break, without imploding your deferential , pete
