    well guys it is true collecting these find old horses is a disease as i have been chatting with a guy from the Kansas city Kansas area CORRECTION HERE according to the vin numbers 1-0400-6 it is a 1971 not a 1968 as i mentioned it is a charger 12 automatic for sale for 200.00 ' and i told my shelf no more as 7 is enough ;so yesterday i took the ride from which is in the Springfield mo area to his home ;well lets be real here as a 2 plus hour drive one way and not bring it back would be really foolish ;plus the seller told me if it didn't sell off to the junk yard so on the back of the truck it went ;heck i figure if any thing the original 2 piece seat and the hub caps were worth the price ;plus all of the wheel horse catalogs; yes it does need some tinkering such as a battery as i tried today to charge it today checked the points and the plug which were good ;then i tried the key that didn't come with it but i have spares for a kohler .it wouldn't fit plus i tried the key for my charger 10 which is the Tecumseh motor still wouldn't work so i think the key is busted off inside which another key switch will work'the seller told me it hasn't been started in over 2 years ;but i noticed the switch for the electric clutch is as well busted so how can he say it works or even runs with out the key to start it ;the choke cable and the throttle need to be changed as froze up ;but again i figure for the price i didn't go wrong ;the caps will clean up ;though i am not sure if want to sell them yet ;anyways here are the pictures of my horse that makes 8 now ;oh the deck is really junk but the wheels and rollers come in handy plus the spindles if they are good ;check it out ; and i forgot to mention that all of the tin is there as well ;the foot rest;side cover for the belt and the motor tins ;

What more fitting, than using the Polished Turd to bring spares out to Big Junky! I was cruising along and believe to have lost spark. I have two coils and a new set of points to try out today!

After the move my wife decided she wanted something a little roomier than the car so I gave her my truck. My nephew decided he needed a crewcab for the baby so he sold me my dad’s truck back. He got this a couple of years before my dad passed but it is pretty much the same way it was when dad had it and in great shape. So we decided to get it and I would drive it. So I picked it up monday and then today I got a 7x14 enclosed trailer today. Need that to haul the horses and the rest of our stuff north. Hopefully @stevebo likes this one.

My husband and I recently purchased a Wheelhorse to restore. But, upon getting the tractor home and doing some more research we are unsure if the model stick on the tractor is correct. Unfortunately, the serial number plate is MIA. The stick on the tractor says 605, but it has an electic start. How can we determine what the exact model of the tractor is? We did get the unit running (with my husband's ingenuity) since we are looking for a fuel pump. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!!!!

I believe my issue was the points, but the funny thing was that it ran great for a few minutes, died, sat for a while, fired back up... like a weak coil would act. I replaced the coil, and it did the same thing. I never touched the points, trying one thing at a time. It fired back up, ran for a few minutes, then died again! I swapped my spare set in and whalla! It worked and I’m back in business!

Be careful and do not use any of those pot metal pulleys on your tractor. They are designed for lower hp electric motors and could grenade on you when under the power of a gas engine. Use stamped steel or cast steel pulleys only. Your store may be offering cast steel pulleys ( which you're referring to ) but mine only carries those pot metal cast pulleys or stamped steel pulleys.

Yesterday ordered the rest of Hydraulic tubes and fittings, they shall come this week. In between i bleeded again the Lifts today, try to capture it with the Camera. As i know from the Small Horse FEL build, it will depend few lifts until all air is bleeded, easier with more weight. Tried some weight in, but afraid to lift to max, because shovel is not actually secured. but it was impressive enough just with the Shovel. C3C364A3-2155-45C1-9F64-7227D11B5F32.MOV

Big Junky is getting some attention today. To pull fuel into the carb, I normally have to cover the carb completely with my hand and make sure the tank is full. I’ve been meaning to swap on a pump from a broken rod engine.... since this tractor has obviously had some fuel issues in the past. It’s now pumping and will start on it’s own! Why should I work on this beast, when I’ve got nicer looking workers? It’s heavy and has a drawbar AND slot hitch... so I can spread chicken poo from a trailer AND disc the food plot... that’s why Some day, Big Junky will be complete when this Big Junky stack finds it’s way on!

It’s an ‘06. Just turned 109K on the ticker. I believe my dad bought this new. In 2010 he sold it to my nephew and he has had it since. I was offered it and the timing was right so I now have it. It is super clean underneath and only a couple of small pings and scratches here and there. I don’t see myself getting rid of it. I know in NC where we are ending up, they are everywhere. Plenty of parts available and I hear the engines run forever if taken care of. Hopefully 👍 @PeacemakerJack I have one photo of my dad in it somewhere.

So the story of how I came about locating this little fella.......I’m 34 years old back when I was 17 my family were coming home from a tractor show and hour away , came through this little town and I spotted this Wheelhorse beside there old garage. Dad did a quick turn around and we stopped in. The gentleman said he was still using it for the garden work so it wasn’t for sale...( the Kohler was in it and the hood wasn’t chopped back then if my memory serves me right) ive always thought about whatever happened to the old tractor whenever I’d drive by the house...I always wanted to stop in and see if it was there but something was always happening like in a hurry to get home or there was no vehicle there........today we happened to be near the town and I thought of the tractor and said I’m going there and today there was a vehicle there. I knocked on the door and told the son (60) years old how my dad had stopped in years ago, he agreed to let me in the house to talk to his parents. They were so happy to talk to me about it and tell me stories about the old RJ. The son brought me out back to the run down old garage that it sits in. Apparently it hasn’t ran in 2 years. He agreed that I could take some pictures. The father does not want to sell it but the wife says she bought it years back so she gets the say she told me that when they have passed away the son is in charge of it and he can sell it then. I got his number and they wanted mine. Was invited back to visit anytime so I’m holding onto that relationship. I’m hoping and praying I’m in line for it in the future

Good to see another Michigander!!! Have not done one myself but previous posts have indicated copious amounts of penetrating oil, patience, heat and more patience will pay off... Good luck!

One of the guys from the pulling club came by and got my Sons pulling tractor Good Ole Rusty the Raider 12 running! My son is so happy. I’m pretty relieved as well. From what we can tell it was just bad grounding from the block to the Chevy points bracket. Although we installed a new ignition switch(because the old one was smoking when we were cranking it... lol), new spark plug, cleaned up the valves and the head. Now it actually starts right away, not like before when it had to crank for a few revolutions before firing off.

Mustie1 is my favorite YouTuber by far. His current series is green paint 318 jd but has to be a performance series onan The decidedly abused machine comes in making noises a plenty and he goes in even having to retrieve a valve stem cap from the bottom end of the engine. Don't miss this one. It runs like butter when finished He even straightened a bent valve to serviceable condition.

That’s better! I shoot Lefty... so I’ve planned the majority of my cover to be off my left shoulder. I now have visibility of about 5 acres from this stand. It also appears my sprinkler is reaching the majority of the plot!

That could very well be true. It's all play time to me. Building them. Working on them. Using them in the forest or in the yard. All play time.

The seed has been spread with the Scott’s grass seed spreader! I had some help dragging the old box springs with this Kawasaki Mule I fixed for a guy. It’s not a fast side by side... but for work it’s quite the beast! High and low range, 2 or 4 wheel drive, rear diff lock, power steering... the cab just gets a bit toasty in the heat... but it has heat for snow plow duties!

Hello All, Helped out a friend that needed a 54" Craftsman deck... I had one and I helped put it on his Husqvarna (same tractor...) get it set level and mowing perfect for him. I ended up with a minty 1999 Toro Wheel Horse 15/38 HXL. I know I know... its not a REAL Wheel Horse but its as clean as it gets and runs as good as it looks. I kinda like the stupid thing, I might part with it if somebody needs a step thru "easy on / easy off" riding mower. I did send a message to one of the most liked senior citizen members here in CT but havent heard back if theres any interest. Tony

Using the blue wire as an example - it goes from the points into the coil with a million wraps around an iron core and then to ground. You will have continuity from the ignition wire to ground because that blue coil wire ends up grounded after it goes through the coil. A real good ohm meter will show 1 or 2 ohms resistance but we can't expect to see that with the equipment we use. This is why I said to just check the wire continuity by disconnecting the condenser and probing the ends of the loose wires to identify the ignition wire. Garry

Hard to say from just looking at the pictures but it looks to have more of a “sod bottom” shape on the moldboard. If my eyes aren’t deceiving me, the “sod bottom” is a more laid back shape and so it does a better job of rolling to the side. The Brinly tends to be a more vertical moldboard which more violently throws the earth back down and over. Works fine either way but most of us have Brinly’s because they are generally more readily available. Take some comparative pics when you get a chance and attach them to the plowing thread in implements. I don’t know if I’ve seen one quite like yours before. Good for reference and I like the idea of all the adjustments. Thanks for posting about it...

Picked up this 10" plow made by Independent Mfg. has more adjustments than a Brinly worked out real well on the 953 used a slot hitch adapter from Lowell.

Hello Clarence. We've had discussions back and forth about safety switches. We've come to the conclusion as a group that Wheel Horse forum CANNOT advise you to leave safety switches disconnected. The one for the PTO in particular should always be in place and functioning.

Made a modification to Matts Foot Control on my 418A. Bought it several years ago and then took a couple years to install it. It gets really hard to work sometimes. Turns out the steel bushing that slides up and down in bracket #2 Doesn't slide nicely. Getting lube on it is not straight forward and if you look at the picture you can see where a groove has been worn in the bushing. I put in a longer bolt and a jam nut on tighten it to the bracket so now the bushing can spin on the bolt. I know this will wear over time but if it works out I will come up with a oilite bearing on the bolt and a steel bushing over that.

The wire with the diode is the charging wire, is the other the kill wire? Yes, a 3 amp charge can go directly to the battery or it can go to the switch which then goes back to the battery.

That looks to be in good overall nick, but untill you test it you never know. The deck is a 42 RD, not too invaluable either, so that is a plus in the appraisal. Never the less, you have to live somewhere pretty run dry of wheel horses, to put that thing at more than 500-600 tops. The last 416 I bourght was with a 48 dech, and 400 and some hours on the meter, and also nice looking. That was $450 and another 100$ in parts, and it took a bit of elbow grease to make it look nice again, but it goes to show that there are many fantasy prices out there. 1000$ for that machine, is one of them.

I have seen used in fair condition as low as 6000 so if the choice is a new plastic zeroturn or this, I know what I go for ................ Also, I think it is a bit hasty to put all ZT´s into one glorified basket. Some are true pro/commercial mowers, some are not, and wont mow more per time unit than anything else with the same size deck. The true commercial ZT's are also really expensive. A good hint is that anything that should be able to mow as a commercial, will need at least 5-6hp per foot of deck. For instance a 60" will need at least 25-30 hp, for the deck alone.

Gary Pond (Cecil's son) sent me the following: The picture is here somewhere, I'll try to find it. The above photo shows 4th generation Jonathon Pond with a tractor that his Great-Granddad Elmer Pond designed.
