Picked up this pile of stuff today! Not sure what I will do with it all yet. But I know the weights and the belts will be put to use for sure. THE 603 steering wheel is mint and there's got to be close to 50 to 60 belts in the box. Unfortunately the weights were painted yellow, but I'll fix that.

There are vintage trucks all over down here. We are in the little town of Landrum, SC just walking from shop to shop when I saw this beauty... And this one...

I have put tubes in tires and inflated them, then put them in the sun.

I couldn’t stand the few pits here and there and a few voids from not quite enough fill when I was welding, so I buttered the smooth ground radiuses with PC-7 so it’ll be pretty and smooth after paint. Almost finished!

I just got my seals today to replace in my 855 tractor. Model 5049 transmission. The removal of the seals was fairly easy. A sharp ice pick and a hammer took care of that problem . Matter of putting some tape on the shaft to protect the seal from the key way. A little grease on top to slide the seal in place and tap with a socket . These seals are availible from Amazon cheap! Cheaper than Napa

Got these weights from my friend and now I'm cleaning them up and getting them ready to put on IRV.

Removed the breather today sure enough I'd assembled it wrongly. Filter behind the baffle and baffle the wrong way round. Don't ask me how. Just goes to show how methodical and how many times you've done something, you can still make mistakes. It's still got the cork gasket I made but now no leaks. While I was at it I made a new gasket, not cork, for the fuel pump. That also had a slight weep. That also is ok now.

Thanks to all for the kind comments! Yes it certainly needed front weights, the steering got very light when the box was loaded up. Also the clutch is pretty fierce and it was hard to pull away without doing a wheelie. I used some old storage-heater bricks, these are really dense, weighing about 20lb each, I bodged together (see prototype pic) a front weight with three of them and an old wheel brace handle to attach to the front mounting points on the tractor. This pretty much solved the problem, but fell apart after a couple of loads... I've now made an improved version that is working well, see other pic. I'm limiting the load to 5 or 6 blocks (200 - 240lb) and so far I have moved about half of them (~90) and nothing has broken, bent or fallen off, fingers crossed! Regards... Chris

Made a new set of tie rods I'm going to put on my 520-H. I made a set back a couple of months, but had to use 1/2" rod as the 5/8" rod I bought was too hard the tread. The other set will be put on my 312-8 may add some tubing over the 1/2" rod.

I think what Richard is saying is put the tubes in the tires before putting the tires on the rims. And leave them out in the sun.

So a bit of progress today... Design needs to include a “train” of two trailers for nieces and nephews...important stuff before practical...! Found 1” bore wheels / tires at TSC. Ordered...along with shaft collars...no luck finding anything reasonable used... The yellow tire is just for mock up purposes... honest... Working on hinge for dumping. Gonna just use the front axle and brackets off the wheel barrow with the axle Inside a pipe bolted to the dump to make a hinge. pics to follow when fabricated... Decided on milk crate instead of tool box. More flexible carrier... Going with black frame and red barrow...I think it will compliment the Black Hood well... Graphics from @Vinylguy on order! All for now!

you might also have the start or growth of a spindle crack in the deck, drop the deck , do a detailed inspection and cleaning , verify blade placement for correctness . i have found the idler pulley to be a prime issue for noise and shaking, but a thorough inspection will undoubtedly find your issue. pete

Check to make sure there is not a piece of wood or something jammed in the groove of one of the V-pulleys. When the belt climbs over the foreign material it sets up a vibration. The biggest cause of deck vibrations are blades that are not balanced. Garry

All of you guys that are far away should put the big show on top of your bucket list. Hop on a plane and take a vacation in Gettysburg for that week. That will keep the other half happy as the history around there is plentiful. Plus you can always pull the father's day card if necessary. Then sneak away on Friday (or bring them) and come to the show. Plan on all day and into the night too. About 5-6 pm is the dinner, then the ice cream social, (free ice cream or sherbet), then it's cruise night to the oldies. You don't need to have a tractor to enjoy it. You can buy some small stuff that fits in your luggage too. But one thing you will quickly notice is all of the camaraderie there and it's very easy to make friends. Just talk tractors and you're in like Flynn. My father always has a couple to a few tractors for sale which you can use to cruise around on. Hec, that just gives them more exposure for advertisement and shows they are running driving tractors. You won't be disappointed as the WHCC puts on the best show around.

I came across all of this all by buying the wheel weights from a guy, who was selling them for someone. After chatting for a bit he discovered my intrest and knowledge of tractors. Well that led to me volunteering to go check a couple tractors out for a gentlemen. He was looking for a hand in getting them running so he can start using and enjoying them. Well after meeting the guy and talking for awhile he told me he's got some more wheelhouse stuff and I'm welcome to take it. I did not feel right doing that so before even seeing it I offered to purchase anything i could use. All I knew was it was wheel horse stuff that he said has been sitting in the barn for years. So I ended up buying all he had and I will be goin back next week to check out another goodie that's at another location. I'll make a post about that if I get it, meen time you will have to wait in anticipation.

1970 Raider 12 model 1-6251 - Uses Kohler K301S-47371c with breakerless magneto ignition Sounds like you no longer have the breakerless ignition or the engine has been replaced. If you have points and condenser and an external coil you now have battery ignition. Tuck the spare wire out of the way and forget about it. Is is not uncommon to add points condenser and external coil when the very expensive breakerless ignition system fails. Garry

Yup, there is one on my 73 wheel horse “ mowing tractor!”, it’s a little dark and blown up! But that’s the spacer! It’s always nice to have a tractor to refer to!👍😄

I got the new tie rods installed and took it for a trip around the property. looks like I need to adjust that one just a bit. They are not installed the way Wheel Horse did it. I went to the back side of the triangle plate. I don't have enough room with the heims joints. What I have found out is that this way the inside wheel turns tighter this way then the outside wheel.

You get sick of having all those weights... Feel free to leave some here. Seriously though... I'd LOVE to have a belt with a good package to hang on the wall. Decorative like ya know....

I LOVE when someone says " I've got this pile of stuff " you can look through ..... Nice score !

I don't know what that is but I'm going to follow along because I'm curious as well. Just as a point of info, you're missing a spacer under the pivot bar that goes to your throttle cable. That's why it appears to be bent and scratching the engine cover at the top.

Sooooo, noon work is done. working with an Earworm from Phill Collins - another Day in Paradise... I started with the FrontBar, drilled few Holes, than screwed in and later repaint. than some ordered Parts arrived... hear just DHL is here and lurking to the Fence. than i grinded few precutted pipes 4 cm and prepare for insert. After the inserts are setted, i cutted a 2meter Flat 50mm by 5mm in pieces of 64 cm. They result with few things are done with Anglegrinder and a Drill as Struts between Frontbar and Liftconsole. than i paint them and mount them. Looks good, than i grabbed my iPad and ordered the Tubes for the Hydraulics. I also added a Blast protection tube with the Tubes. I shortly decide to use Tubes, in case of moving of any other Position of the Valveblock. Additionally also ordered now 2 Hydraulic lifters, 32/20 with 400 mm range for the Front End. As Frontend i decide to build a „Euro mount“ quick changer for Quick exchange of Tools. At least i prepared the other precuttet pipes, and have a look if i would do this Way, with a bolt and Spring for quick dismount, or i leave it as it is. Maybe i welded them tomorrow, but weather forecast tells some Rain - we will see. Decision is not taken in the Moment. And Weatherforecast is actually more like reading Coffeeground.

Started pulling tins off to install the foot pedal kit, so I did the 520 Onan side cover mods prior to sandblasting, don't want it overheating. Will probably cover the holes with some type of screen on the inside for cosmetic purposes:

Since I received some notifications of replies to this post I just thought I would add a few comments. I sold probably 90% of what's seen in these picture's at the big show and in the weeks since then and I just wanted to say that it was great to be able to meet a lot of you guys in person and put faces to the names here, and I'm glad this stuff went to good homes.

to RedSquare You should start with the Kohler M series SERVICE manual. It will have some step by step instructions and you can always ask particular questions here on RS.

All Kohler K-241 engines built after 1965 were equipped with a compression release cam shaft that will slightly open the exhaust valve as it approached TDC on the compression stroke at low RPMs. As a result you will not get a good compression reading. A leak-down test is the best method of determining the engine's condition. https://mobiloil.com/en/article/car-maintenance/car-maintenance-archive/how-to-do-a-leakdown-test

One of our members who hasn't posted lately @Save Old Iron had a great post on that subject that I saved. Here it is: Think about it - if you forced a sudden surge of lets say 35 amps thru a 30 amp fuse - the fuse internal element slowly "melts" - usually within a few seconds - you see a melted wire in the fuse body and the fuse body and leads remain looking like they originally did ( give or take a little). If you dead shorted the battery thru the fuse to the chassis, you may blacken the inside of the fuse but the fusible element melts long before you have a chance to cook the entire fuse body like in your picture. Same idea for the white plastic engine harness connector - the brown discoloration is from cooked plastic - where is the heat coming from ?? The "Molex" style connectors used in this tractor series are in a harsh, corrosive environment. Vibration causes the connections to loosen - corrosion starts within the metal terminals and a voltage drop develops across the corrosion. If you have a 10 amp current flowing across a 1 ohm resistance (contact corrosion) the electronics formula to calculate power = current squared times resistance so 10 amps x 10amps x 1 ohm resistance = 100 watts !! 100 watts of connector heating is the same as laying a 100 watt soldering iron on the connector.

I know this is a Wheel Horse forum, but if anyone here is honest, there are some pros and cons to every brand, even Wheel Horse. To say one is better than another brand, is pure nonsense. I don't care much for Ford, but to say they're inferior to a Chevrolet would be wrong. Same for Wheel Horse, Cub Cadet, Simplicity, Kubota, and yes, even John Deere. To get back on topic, if Toro still made lawn and garden tractors, it wouldn't be the design of the older Wheel Horse. It would probably be a lot of plastic, aluminum transmissions, maybe even Tuff-Torq's K46 light duty transmission, and it wouldn't be as durable nor built for longevity. When Toro killed the Wheel Horse line, they also stop all production of the other Toro designed lawn and garden tractors. They turned to MTD to build their tractors for a couple of years then. Right now, I don't believe Toro builds lawn and garden tractors, nor have any branded ones, as they turned to walk behinds and zero turns. Today's market has changed from even 20 years ago. With SCUTs and CUTs being built by a lot of manufacturers, and with more and more people buying zero turn mowers, the market does not demand a heavy duty garden tractor. Oh, Simplicity, Kubota, and John Deere still makes heavy duty garden tractors, but the prices of those places them to where a SCUT would be a better and more attractive, as well as cost effective, alternative. I doubt a new Wheel Horse, built along a similar design of the Classic Wheel Horse, would sell very well and would be too expensive to build with profit margins in mind.

Incorrect. All the John Deeres sold at Lowes and Home Depot are made by JD in Tennessee. And those same models can be bought at a John Deere dealer for the same price you find them at the box stores. Deere uses the Tennessee plant to make entry level tractors to compete against Sears, MTD, Murray and the other lower scale tractors made by Simplicity and others. It's what the market wants and demands in today's environment. The higher quality JDs are built in their plant in Horicion, Wisconsin, just has they have been since 1963. That includes the X-series, which are great machines and will out mow about anything that was made 20 years ago and earlier. And I had/have Wheel Horses, Cub Cadets, older JDs, etc.,....

All of it! Bringing all of this plus a whole truckload to the Big Show; dad just closed his dealership and wants to eliminate his inventory, gonna keep basic service parts(wear items) that fit our own tractors but everything else can go. He wanted to finish cleaning out this other dealer that's been closed for 10 years. It's just been fun hanging out in the shop again with my dad like we did 30-40 yrs ago.

Frame was pretty flimsy by itself. They were trying to take weight out of the car because the Plymouth- Dodge uni-body cars were lighter. Already had aluminum front parts and bumpers. They had some aluminum frames made up but not sure if they ever went under the car. Saw one a few years ago and I think he wanted $10,000 for it..

Great idea...just curious - if you already have a tube and go to the trouble of inflating etc. why not just go with tubes installed and call it good? Thats what I did and it has worked great...

That wire is from the trigger on breakerless ignition. One wire comes off stator and goes to trigger and then one from trigger to breakerless coil. It was common for those motors and some blocks were pre drilled and tapped for points conversion. A small plug was placed in points plunger hole and screw holes were tapped and ready for points and cover screws. An updated steel points plunger rod was also introduced in the 80's to replace the aluminum ones for longevity purposes.

Inserted the Backstrut to Gearbox, or better Rear Axle. Allready screwed to the Rear Axle. And in the Rear, it was long enough for a permanent Trailerhook, that releases the threepoint. Pretty nice Fit.
