With the heat covering most of the US in triple digits, I think it is time to show pictures of horses in the snow...suitable for your Desk Top. So, heat up the coffee and add a little Amereto.

Our local Antique Tractor and engine show took place today and we had a good variety of tractors, hit and miss engines and interesting stuff. I didn't get too many pictures due to a lightning storm that sent everyone packing early, but here is what I did get during my lunch brake.

We are hosting our local summer show this weekend in Abingdon, VA. Here are a few pics of a few of the entries. Check out the steel wheeled Huber - only about 10 are known to exist! The John Deere 110 was a surprise for Clay - my friend Joe’s son. He just got it yesterday and is on cloud 9! The last pic shows Emory and Clay with Emory’s new Cub Cadet. Tomorrow is our last day and I’m wiped out!!

They are wearing light jackets in Northern Ireland at this years British Open. My wife stepped outside for a minute yesterday afternoon, came right back in and said she could not breath outside. The humidity is worse then I have ever experienced in Florida, and this is Illinois. Well here is a picture to cool all of you guys off and a reminder that the days are getting shorter.

Hi folks, I been on a quest lately to find a wheelhorse or two that I would actually use for mowing/work, instead of just putting around on. I mow about 1.5 acres and have been using a husqvarna with 36 inch deck. This past week I picked up two horses that I think will finally fit the bill. Last week I got the 312-8. And the other day, I found this c-81. It was owned for the last 25 years by the same family, hes a retired mechanic and took great care of it. When I arrived to pick it up, he was actually greasing the deck for me:). New paint, tires, battery, belts. He didn't refinish the deck, but maintained it very well. I only had one picture to go on, when i agreed to buy it, but was VERY impressed when I saw it in person. Runs like a kitten too!!!

Campground we're staying is right on the rocky coast of the Atlantic. I'm making my boiled coffee and Listening to the big diesel engine of a lobster boat it goes by checking its traps this morning. Here's a shot of the campground as a whole.

I lived in nj all my life and in 40 years I think today is the most humid thickest air I have ever experienced, yuck! got out early, got some weeding done in the iris beds, staked a few plants, got to see an f16 chase a plane out of the restricted airspace, that was cool. so now I am soaked heading in. going to hide in basement

After running long lives (1,400 hours each), these horses have never had it so good!

Please don't take a crude comment from one member and paint us all with that same brush. I think you will find the majority of us are very willing to provide helpful information. Helping isn't our only reason for being here, we also enjoy the social aspect of encouraging and uplifting one-another.

Well everyone we had a fantastic time at the show today. I'll try to get some more pictures downloaded but the service here is not very fast so it may not be until tomorrow. So impressive and amazing how many people are drawn to these little tractors. People at the campground looking at them. People in parking lots at the stores looking at them. Many people at the show. Trina was an absolute hit! When I told the people looking at the tractors who was the one who did much of the work, they were all that much more impressed. On our way back from the Truck And Tractor Show to the campground, we were in 2 lane traffic and a guy on my left beeped at me and we were yelling through the windows on our way down the road about how he has one of these Wheelhorses! Pictured below is what I think is an 854? That is owned by somebody who is tied to the museum somehow.

@ACman that Allis was running our thresher and was doing a fantastic job! Thanks for the compliments guys. Our treasurer said we are on track for record attendance. We don’t charge an entry fee, it accept donations and it works really well!

As mentioned by EB - fluid, weights and chains. Two link chains give better traction but may cause damage to your blacktop driveway. This Raider has all the above and will push practically anything. It's great for snow removal. The difference is my driveway is capped with stone dust and when frozen helps to improve traction. I found that this type of front tire helped a lot in the snow.

I’ve done all the methods mentioned above but I’ve had the best luck doing what Steve mentions by pushing all of the snow to the south side of my driveway. It all but eliminates any drifting occurring later from wind. In regard as to what I use, I have a very heavily weighted C 161 with a 54 inch blade and fairly heavily weighted 606 with a 42 inch blade and both push an amazing amount of snow. I’ve had better luck on my concrete driveway without chains. I have inside weight with fluid in the rear tires on the 606 and the 161 plus front and rear wheel weights on the 161. 60A4EBE8-E50D-4D1C-95C3-CB21683EDD3C.mov

Tuna...now is the time to wax your snow skis. The wax is soft...perfect.

Doesn't anybody have snow pics out there?? My pictures are through a few years...did you guys notice how many different horses were used in the production of this thread. BTW...funny, I was just watching the food channel "Good Eats" on making Chili. How ironic is that???

Installed LED lights on the 418-A! I guess now I'll have to get them for the other 2 Horses.

Good point! It's all about perspective, as they say. And hopefully we all work smarter today and tomorrow, using sunscreen (I'm bad about that), staying out of the sun when possible (better), staying hydrated (pretty good), and just knowing when it's time to give it up and come inside for a break (always ready for a break). I managed to get a couple of good hours of seat time on my 310-8 this morning, just mowing, but it was plenty in this heat. She's been a bit neglected lately, just recently got her running again, and happy she was willing to do all the work and let me come along for the ride.

Good question Steve. Cents they run off DC I would say if you reverse polarity then I would say yes. Some one's gonna have to try it. But I will say this. I don't think the 300-500 series tractors hold up as well as the older models.

Steveasaurus, cruel, cruel picture... its going to be 96* here today, and humidity is off the chart. Heat index says 105*... Any of you folks in cooler climates looking for a boarder? I am also open to adoption! Danny

Hate to say it, but I might just have to sleep in tomorrow after I make 3 loads home following today’s closing!

Considering none of us were actually born with all the knowledge needed to perform these repairs, all our tractors would be sitting in a shop. You had to learn too. Excuse me if Im wrong, but' I also thought learning & teaching each other about our tractors was the sole purpose of these type websites anyway, maybe even save them from Americas scrap heap but I guess you don't understand that idea?

That is back when a horsepower was a genuine “horse power”! Thanks for sharing the videos and information. That reproduction 150hp steamer is a work of art! It makes a guy wonder what those machines are really capable of given a chance to REALLY stretch their legs. How much could they pull?

A 200-series with a front end loader?! Take THAT, all of us who say the vertIcal shafts are lesser machines! Steve

It's to blinking hot to work out in the horse barn tonight, heat index is like 98 degrees. Supposed to be feel like 110 tomorrow, so might not get to much done tomorrow either. I did promise pictures though One of @Vinylguy 's decals Some more

More Portage Show pics - this time from my Nikon camera!

The 854 I picked up at last years big show was run very little until recently. For months when I'd find a little time I would putter around with it getting things bolted together properly. It was missing so much hardware that I'm amazed it didn't end up in a pile of parts on the trip home. The engine had been cleaned up when I got it and I didn't notice much in the way of leaks until recently now that I'm running it and the bulk is from the breather area. I also couldn't get the carb tweaked to my liking so I decided to rebuild it since I'd have it off for access to the breather cover. Ya thunk this could be the problem? OK, carb rebuilt. No on to the breather. I cleaned things up. The PO had used the lovely blue silicone stuff. Fortunately it cleaned up good. I made new gaskets and ordered new breather filters. Note that Kohler now recommends using 2 filters in the K-181. Before I saw this I ordered 2 so I'd have a spare. So much for the spare now. They were delivered today. The clutch wasn't right. It was way too sloppy causing it to not engage properly. Enter a pair of 1/2" x 5/8" bushings a couple days ago. I had to grind off the old idler assembly but fortunately I had a spare from the two tractors that were given to me. Clutch is now smooth a silk and slop free. I need to finish the breather stuff and get the carb installed. I thought I'd do that this morning but after a few minutes out there I think I'll wait a couple days. It's HOTTTTT!
