After 50 years and three generations, this horse is training the fourth generation (it was their great grandfather’s lawn mower). With some luck, it’ll be around for their kids. (Notice the wash rags. They clean it before they drive it - good habits start young.).

Spent the weekend over in Yorkshire at the above show. To say it's big would be an understatement. Set off at 7-15am on the Friday morning, and drove over in glorious sunshine, with four tractors on the trailer. Set up camp next to Meadowfield and family and that evening the heavens opened. Saturday was a bit damp with very slight drizzle all day, till around 5pm when it brightened up. Sunday was sunny and T-shirt weather. Some photo's of some of what was there. I took these Saturday morning before it got busy. I didn't realise how many I'd taken, so they'll be in more than one post and no specific order. To be continued.

Picked this up this afternoon, hadn't been run in a few years, I got it started , but needs some carb cleaning /adjusting. Nice seller, had TONS of wheelhorse, going back for a 701 tomarrow, lil red dragon ranger didn't have enough room.....oh, and I didn't bring enough cashflow

Went to the show Friday, 6/7. Theme was J.Deere patio tractors, but there were just as many Wheel Horses. Had some flea market junk, lots of hit&miss engines, farm tractors, and garden tractors. Met a few WH collectors and some interesting tractors. I took the opportunity to go to the show because my son and his family recently moved to southern Indiana, but I don't think it was good enough show to go that far for again. Maybe it was just hampered by the rain forecast for Saturday.

Inheriting my grandfather's WH was what started the addiction for me 20 years ago. I hope my kids treasure it as much as I do.

brought this home the other day i believe its a suburban 400 ive got the original k91 mower deck and blade for it the only things im missing are the belt guards heat shield and throttle plate and foot rest. im planing on doing a full restoration

Just picked this up over the weekend for $250, has the plow attachment, wheel weights and chains, new tires all around and rebuilt generator. Looks like someone sealed around the gas tank to stop a leak. Do they make PTO's for these? Also what kind of oil do these old Kohlers like? I'll be plowing with this and doing some grading. Thanks

Hi Guys, I recently picked this 400 Suburban up that's a little rough around the edges but I think a pretty decent survivor with its original guards and showerhead muffler in tact yet. What really excites me though is the "Duo Therm" 110v electric starter that's on it, never seeing one in person before. I can't find any info on the starter and wondered if anyone happens to have any? Thanks, Rob

Changed the hydro fluid and filter on the GT last weekend. Rebuilt the carb and put it back on yesterday. Now i am just waiting for the gas tank to be finished. I took it to an Amish guy that does plastic welding, i am just hoping its done in time for the big show.

if you are coming to the show I'm going to have 2 P220 for sale there that I can start for you. If you put another rod in it you have to be careful not to mix old style rods and the new style. T ake it apart and see what is actually wrong with it before you decide what you are going to do with it. good luck eric j

I found your Wix filter, gas can, body filler, lawn chairs, jugs of coolant, air chuck, vise grip, wrenches, tarps, tires, Sorry I don't see a key switch Kevin. I need more pictures for this game. Wouldn't the missus be just as happy with - twist these two wires together, then touch these two wires together until it starts. To shut it off just untwist the first two wires. Ohh wait!! I don't see an automotive coil. So touch these two wires together to start it & touch this one to the frame to shut it off. Easy Peasy.

For those who have a plethora of horses plus batteries, or not. Over the years I've kept or found those 12 volt power converts, mostly from cordless phones but other things as well. I wire them to the battery with an on/off switch or a fuse. When it's time to put most of the heard away for the winter, in the shed or just covered up I run a few power bars, plug them in and say "see ya come spring" I've been doing this for about 5 years now and leave them on permanently. I use ones that only put out .5-.7 amps. I thought of getting a bunch of battery minders, they run $10 to $15 up here north of the boarder. Works great. Anybody else tried this?

my buddies trying to find the other narrow narrow front. if he cant find it ill stick with fat ones. i'm pretty exited about this one. I bought a c160 in march and i got my grandpas c111 last year(that ones got a couple of rough spots and a god awful briggs) i think ive got a good start to a collection. i just staarted full time at gtd (greenville tool and die) as a apprentice so i should have all tools ill need to do these projects in a few years.

When ever the grand kids are visiting and they ask for the iPad, I offer them the Wheel Horses instead. Even in winter, the tractors are always their preference. I’ve managed to keep them off of electronic devices for an entire weekend by involving them in tractor projects (a few other things too). I have to agree, the intangibles that go along with teaching young children, about old machines are priceless. Being able to see how something works, fills in a lot of bank space that many young people struggle with. Creativity, problem solving, patience, persistence, engineering & physics principles ... just to name a few.

The love and interest in Wheel horses that one instills in them at that young age is only a small part of the benefits. Knowledge of machinery and respect for it and their dangers along a sense of responsibility in their use is one of the benefits that will serve them their entire lives.

You were too quick for me on that Kevin. I'm glad that you found it, but lets not dismiss my open wires idea. I mean it is spose to be a Frankenstein.

I don't know what the big deal is Kev. That's an easy fix. go buy another one. As soon as you get home you will find the one that you've been looking for. Then you'll have a spare to use in your next build.

Progress has been a little slow but have managed to get a few things finished. Been giving the blast cabinet a real workout. This will be the second media change in a month and working on the third nozzle.

Gotcha. Yep, we’re camping at the show this year. If all goes well, we’ll use the tractor deck to haul our machines to WI in July and camp there too 👍

I gotta rig up a front ball one of these day Horse Fan Put the 857 back together just to move it out the shop.Then cleaned up the shop abit and got the bike out of winter storage.. Axle bearings are going to have to wait on the 857 for another day. Worked on the'83 A-81 deck spindles.... all new bearings. Turns out they are the same very common B-1616 bearings and seals used in the 3 speed trannies. Plan is to make a high speed grass eatin beaver out of her! Z turns ain't gonna have nothin on her! FINALLY went to work on this deuce that @WVHillbilly520H was supposed to come over and finnish but he got no time! Got the upgrade bearing spacers made. Figured I best git at it since snow equipment is this years fearure at the BS....I know I know ... making a career out of this project but if @pullstart can make a project last a lifetime so can I 'Sides who wants to think snow in the summer! Was figuring @Achtowould get tired of seeing it in my garage and help out but nnnooooo ..he's too busy with new to hims! Just can't find good help these days!

Hi all. Maybe no one missed me, but just wanted to let everyone know that I'm still alive and still vertical to the ground. Sorry I haven't been around lately and have missed a lot of good stuff I'm sure, but have been dealing with some family emergencies that have put all things Wheel Horse on the back burner for the last few months. Today is the first that I have even logged into the website since I can't remember when. Anyway, just wanted to check in and say and hopefully can get back into active participation in the near future. And also did want to mention, if the stars align right, I am planning on attending the Big Show and hopefully get the opportunity to finally meet many of you in person.

I wanted to thank all you Joker's for the ACE Hardware recommendations but guess what, I did go to ACE just for the heck of it and the owner looked everywhere for those washers and even took out his verniers to measure all the brass washers he stocks and to no avail. This is a small hardware store that stocks just about anything you could possibly ever need, even pitcher pumps and spare leather washers. All kidding aside, I always enjoy everyone's comments and suggestions when I post, where else could I get this much entertainment at such a reasonable price for the cost of supporter membership. Last but not least a big thanks to @oliver2-44 for sending the correct washers, received them today in the mail. In case you don't already know RED SQUARE IS THE BEST!

On everyone's behalf I am sure I thank you for your compliments. This is indeed a special place, not as a result of any particular individuals but as a collectivism of all members from many different parts of life and many different geographical locations. Not also forgetting supervision and organization which also in my opinion second to none. Overall it is the willingness to share information and knowledge that makes it so great.Most of us never met, but it is like we are next door to each other. As far as your question, I am not familiar with that option. The 551 did come with a H55 with electric start in addition to the recoil and to my knowledge that was it for that series of Suburbans . Referring of course to the smaller RJ looking suburban. As for the unit in this thread I believe it was a specialized adaptation for a particular application. The fact that it needs electricity to operate it would make it inconvenient in most applications in a tractor. There was also the K91S witch used a starter generator and a battery ignition. Again designed with certain other applications in mind. Some of us myself included have used the K91S in our tractors. Needs a few modifications and imagination but it is a great system once installed.

The information that is shared on this site is 100% priceless. The timing is second to none. I , in the very near future will become a supporter and then won't feel bad asking questions. I read most all of the posts in all the sections and am learning how to get around the site. This site, with all the information and comraudery, brings the addiction to a whole new level. A buddy and I were given a truck one time, with no title, receipt or keys. The lady just said “There it is, have at it!” And we were dumb enough to not think there was any problem! It ended up with 3 wires through the top of the dash to start it about like that. Twist two, tap the other, blast through the field, get some gas and a hot dog in town, blast the field so more, go raise some more cain, repeat! Yep, the doors, windshield and some other unnecessary items were removed and we drove it to town about once a week not even caring about plates or insurance.

I have had good luck protecting paint by slipping the thumb of an old leather glove over the arm on the changer. Gotta take the glove off first, then put it on the changer!
