So I have been after this machine for over two years now. This was owned by one of my customers which is a corporation. It was purchased new from a local dealer by them, used for a few years to mow and plow snow. It was serviced and then tucked away in a storage shed where it sat for at least 5 years until I finally got a call yesterday for me to come get it in barter. I helped them with a small project and I got the machine! Came with deck, bagger set up, wheel covers, chains, wheel weights and a plow. Machine has only 217 original hours on it. We loaded it on the trailer using forklift and I cleaned her up, drained old fuel, added battery and new fuel and she fired right up👍 What I need for it is the rear bagger bracket and the actual bag that catches the clippings. If you should have those please let me know. This one will be used for fall clean up duties.

My 701 is going to have a rare sickle bar mower attachment on it at the Gettysburg Big Show and Portage , Wisconsin “Garden Daze”. Where Wheel Horse is tractor of the year!

Bought a 312-8 today with the 12.5 Command Pro Kohler motor. First time I rode on one of these! Lots of pep! Bought this tractor with all new belts, new blades on mower deck, 42 inch mower deck, 42 inch snowplow/dozerblade, 44 inch mid grader blade, chrome hubcaps and lots of parts!

I told my wife 6 years ago that I would build her a Gazebo.It doesn't have 8 sides and we renamed it the cannery,since we do all our canning in it.

Carol would kill me if I sold this.

starting today, both of my grandfathers wheel Horse tractors are now mine! My brother had the more beat up one, and he got it running with a Honda GX160, swapped the pulleys to go fast, broke 3rd gear in the trans kind of, and parked it in his garage for 3 years. After we cleaned out his garage and rediscovered it, I made an offer to take it from him since he wasn't using it for anything anymore. He agreed on the condition that he keeps the motor, so now I have a wheel horse with no engine! Its very beat up, and it pops out of third gear, but it is all there with the exception of the sector gear, which ive heard are notorious for stripping out. I'll have to rig something to work, but can't wait to build this! My plan is to take the 79cc from my other one and put it on here and build it into a rat rod style tractor. you'll see that eventually! also took another photo of my other 400, if you have questions about any of them, feel free to ask!

Put new field coils, bearings and brushes in the starter generator on the 1045. Gonna rewire it and the 1055

If you can weld and have the patience to do so you could build up the teeth that are gone and then grind them to the proper shape. Sort of like going to the dentist for a crown.

I went to put a new bore gauge set away in the logical drawer in my tool box, and found another set just like it. I also found the brand new spot weld drilling kit I haven’t seen in quite a while.

And....a friend had it about 20 minutes from the house! A 414-8! Not sure on the year or hours, but it runs great! Only items I’ve found it needs are an ignition switch and a choke cable. There are about 3 rust holes in the deck I’ll need to fix and I don’t mind doing a little welding. I got home and couldn’t resist giving it a pressure wash even though it was raining.

The one weak/neglected point on these tractors IMO, is the rear wheel hubs. Jack the back of the tractor up & check the hubs for slop. If you have a lot of movement remove the hubs & check the key and key ways for wear. If they are not worn bad replace the key. If they are worn bad you can have a new key way broached in the hub at 90 degrees to the old one. Then drill & tap a new set screw hole over the new keyway. If you have very little or no movement on the hubs, check the set screw for tightness and run it. I check the set screws on my tractors 1 or 2 times a year, depending on how much run time they get.

and we aint got a big beer belly to keep us warm!

Been upper 70's lower 80's the last few days, with mid to high 50's at night. So run the heater in the truck on the way to work & the AC on the way home. Most of my attire is acclamation orientated. 30 degrees in the fall is jacket weather, 30 degrees late winter barley requires a sweat shirt.

One of you needs to start a "What the heck is this " thread. Someone will tell you what it is, even if they are wrong.

Aw, come on now fellas, of the 12-14 horses Ive rebuilt/refurbed etc I actually made about $40 on one!!! course that was just for parts/pieces. I probably had some 100-125hrs in it! Really tho, the guys are right, if youre looking to make a dollar or two it just isnt likely to happen...........

I just recently picked up a Commando 8 (very similar to your tractor) with a good running 8 HP Kohler. It came with a complete plow & frame, a usable 36" deck, and all the proper hardware / mounts. I paid $250 for mine, but I honestly think it was worth a little more. A non Wheel Horse enthusiast will probably value it a little lower, but I think I got a very good price considering what I got. As others have said, do not restore it if you think you're going to make all your money back and then some. I've been replacing little things here and there on mine, but keeping the patina for now. I am using my Commando every week to mow my lawn, and using it for yard chores around the house.

I'll put it this way. If you bought it to resale you will make more money to sale it as it is. There isn't a lot of money to be made. A complete restore you would be lucky to get back a third of what is required to spend on a complete restore. Just replacing the ware items, tires, belts, wheel bearings. tie rods, carb. kit, points, condenser, and fuel pump. You are over $500 not counting your time. It is worth every bit of that If you bought it to keep and use.

I enjoy restoring my tractors. Truth be known, a true every nut & bolt restoration is for the love of the tractor or love of the hobby. You will never get your money back after a good restoration.

Plan on adding to the herd tomorrow! Maybe...

That is actually the fill level plug. You need to remove one of the lower bolts that hold the tranny side plate to the center cast piece. This will allow the oil to drain out. When you fill the tranny, add oil until it runs out of the hole that you removed that plug from. The plug is an 1/8" npt pipe plug.

I have a garage a shop and a tool room with workspace! For the most part they are well organized, you would think I could find the tools I am looking for. (?) Sometimes it's like an adventure that leads to new findings. O I forgot that I had one of those and look there's two of them! I find that pegboard and shelving at eyelevel works best. Your not alone.

The tractor’s tough enough to work, but I think Mrs. Pullstart just wants to parade it.

It's probably better that you don't understand how things work inside this cranium of mine. If you ever bother to figure it out, don't tell me. It's pure logic to me. Slightly. Twisted. Maybe.

That should be turned to get it smooth, if possible. Or replace the crank. That would likely eat another bearing.

I noticed that the paint was pealing on the belt guard decal of the tractor that I purchased out of this deal. Luckily who ever painted it did not know that paint will not stick to a smooth surface. So after a little scratching with my jack knife I was able to reveal this pristine decal. I have not been able to confirm by the serial number but I'm quite sure that this is a 753.
