What can I tell you about it other than it was wet & very few of RS members in attendance. Oh well made lemonade anyway. @stevasaurus photo bombed our meager line up. More pics to come Left to right @Achto's Rapferd, his 1076, the Rat Rod, my new to me 1055 and my go to 1067.

We showed up at AJ's enjoying the nice sunny 60+ weather, perfect day for a show. By the time we were done plowing and playin with the stone boat a thunder storm rolls in. This kinda stopped me from strolling around to get more pic's. I was quite happy sitting under a canopy shooting the breeze with @stevasaurus. Fact is the only pic's that I came home with are the ones that Cindy took with my camera. So I'll share some of those with you. Radpferd turning a little dirt. After burying the plow as deep as i could get it, I couldn't seem to make the engine work. Couldn't even get any smoke out of the pipe. No added weight, 2nd gear at about 1/2 throttle & I was running other guys down. This Horse is kind of a Clydesdale. Jim getting the rings seated on his 1055. With out added weight his tractor had no problem pulling a plow. Some other brands struggled a bit to do the job. Next we had a chance to play with a stone boat. A Cub Cadet with duels on was up before Radpferd, They had to drop down to one added weight in order for him to move it. I hooked up with the single weight on the sled. Mover about a foot & said too easy guys. So they threw another one on. Another foot or so & I said a little more please. Keep 'em coming boy's!! At this point the belt started to chirp a bit so I decided to call it good. Still no smoke out of the stack. It was like we were just cruising in a parade. Towards the end of the track I stopped to up shift but lost traction. Jim hooked hooked up. He had some traction trouble getting going. After he was rolling I added my weight to the equation. His 1055 purred right along with no issues. All in all it was a good show even if the rain chased some people off. It was good to talk with people that I hadn't seen since last year.

Had these weights kickin around and figured I would make use of them. They where a perfect addition to my Raider 16, helped to increase traction when dozing. All four tires are fluid filled. I know I should have painted them first. She's a worker.

No they will not run without a decent battery because the voltage regulator needs battery voltage to turn it on so to speak before it can regulate charge current. Later on some tractors had a decal warning against running the engine without a battery. Garry

This is 1 of 2 tractors that I bought from a dear friend and customer, the first is a 1984 C165-8 not pictured and this 1977 C-120-8.I have had the C-165 for 8 years and the C-120 for 5 years. Today we just returned home from a celebration of life event in Massachusetts to Honor Jack. This C-120 was purchased by Jack's dad new and upon his passing Jack ended up with it,he used it to till his garden which came with the tractor when I took ownership. Jack was a Carpenter and Cabinet maker by trade and lived up till 81 Years young. I wanted to spruce this tractor up after i bought it, but never found the time. After he passed I got down to business thanks to all the RS members on how to keep an original Patina Tractor with shiny wheels. He will be in my Heart forever and every time I throw a leg over those 2 lever's on the console I will think of him. Rest in Peace Jack.

One of the first things I add to a new tractor is a 'knob/spinner' I dont even wanna think about trying to steer with out one! Coupla pointers on them -- The one shown here is a heavy duty from TSC, they carry 2 types. This one has exposed screws/nuts on the clamp and with the threads/nut sticking out on bottom has peeled the hide off a hand a few times so I have changed over to the other type which has no exposed parts. They are $10/15 There are many other types on the bay, but I found that the lite weight ones with a plastic knob (they have a logo/pic inside) are pretty flimsy, and a couple were a booger to get it clamped to the wheel.

Mowing at my place is pretty much a trip back to the end of the 20th century, when they knew how to make equipment that lasts... My 520H with 48" SD deck does most of the work. It's more than enough for mowing my small lot, but it also makes short work of New England snowstorms in the winter with a 2-stage snowthrower so it does double duty. And it takes no time at all to swap the mower deck and blade for grading along the road shoulder in the front, and some other bits of ground work that keeps needing to get done. We expect to move to a bigger property in the next 5-10 years, so the 520 will be just dandy for wherever we wind up. I'd always wanted a Wheel Horse since I first got a property big enough to need at least a lawn tractor, but it took trading up through a couple of other-brand Craigslist finds over the span of ten years to get there. The 520's likely to be my "forever" machine. The trimming gets done with a 1990's Lawn-Boy M series mower that I bought new. The Lawn-Boy is pretty much the hand mower equivalent of a 520H -- plenty of power to chew through overgrown stuff, and all the bells 'n whistles with three-speed power drive, oil injection for the 2-cycle engine, and the blade clutch so you can shut off the blade and leave the engine running like a tractor PTO. The Lawn-Boy actually got a 7-8 year rest while we lived at a couple of places with so much gritty sand in the lawns that I really didn't want to use it much to keep from sandblasting the cast deck, and the ignition module had gotten unreliable. (An orphaned Snapper Hi-Vac from the 80's, complete with the miniature disc drive, was the stand-in.) But a couple of years ago I put a new module in it, greased the power drive up, and it went right back to work. Both machines sometimes turn heads when somebody realizes they've never seen anything like that at the box store...

Trina and I and one of our little pack of hiking friends did a nice 8 (-/+) loop up a hill. Here's a few pics she took... This is a garter snake that's about 30 inches long. VERY large for this area. Note that this cabin is right near the top. There were dozens of mountainside hotels back in the 1800s. This cabin marks the site of one.

There I was this afternoon minding my own business, when out of nowhere this crazy Horse just up and jumped in the bed of my truck Was hauling some stuff to the city dump today and stopped to visit with my friend Ray (from my C141 story) and our other friend Joe. Joe was telling me about this 753 he bought at auction the other day. I told him he better keep an eye on it cause as we all know they like to multiply, I started with 1 and ended up with 5. He told me I might end up with 6 after we go look at it, and that the main reason he bought it was he knew I would want it and he could trade me something for it. Ended up giving him his $150 dollars back that he paid for it and about three hrs labor on his truck this afternoon. This tractor has been in the area it’s whole life, being originally owned by the school, then was sold to another gentleman who used it until he was no longer able to, after which it sat in his garage up until his estate sale a few weeks ago

Great thread @oldredrider! It’s fun to see what everybody uses and why... Our primary mower is Kelli’s RED (523Dxi) with a 60” deck. The power steering, large mowing swath, foot controlled hydro, and it sips fuel for being a 1400# machine make it one of our regulars. Plus momma likes to use her tractor while getting some sun! I often use my 1772 Cub Diesel. I have a 50” deck for it. It’s a fun tractor, gives a sharp cut, uses very little fuel, and is a pretty fast machine. Caleb’s JackRabbit (418-C) is quickly becoming a regular use mower as well. It has a 42” SD but also has the full bagger system which is excellent for those many moments when the lawn is unruly. It has fast gearing and convenient tight steering ratio... There is several other machines that we occasionally use because we have them but the above are our primary mowers...

I know, “But Kyle, how can a Bee killer be “Bee Friendly”? After last season I read an article that was about Bee friendly pesticides, and Sevin-5, which I used on my roses and grapes, was listed as detrimental to bees. I had no idea, but it explained why only half of the flowers would form fruit. I was killing the bees that were trying pollinate for me, so pollination was erratic, cause odd looking grape clusters. This year I started using Neem Oil. It kills aphids and other pests, and is also a fungicide. The nice thing is that once it dries, it’s no longer a threat to bees. Granted you still want to keep it off the flowers, but it will kill all the things you want and let your local bees live. Now, if it makes contact with a bee while still in a liquid suspension, it will kill them. We have a carpenter bee problem. A bad one. I’ve killed 11-12 since 9am today. I still had some suspension left after spraying the vines, trees, and roses when it dawned on me: spray this in the hole. Ive gotten two that came out soaked, and are now dead, and I’ve also got an idea of where they’re at now based on hearing the mixture in the eves. The traps have done nothing for us, so I’ve been swatting the ones I can when I can. I’ve read that most people resorted to calling an exterminator because the commercially available methods failed. Not once have I ever read about using Neem oil, which is relatively in expensive and seems to be a good way to get them where they live, so I wanted to share.

Does it count if Squonk saw the york rake when he was here Saturday? Not much to see other than a lot of stone and maybe a touch of sunburn. Got into the 80's for the first time today. Up until now the best we've had is 60's and its rained all but 2 days this month.

Carpenter bees are a big problem here too. By accident I kind of found a solution for outside sheds. A couple of years ago I had a carpenter ant infestation inside my main shed caused by a tiny water leak in shingles. Knowing very well how hard it is to get rid of them, essentially one needs to kill the queens in the nest, and wanting to do it quickly I decided to put in there one of those fumigating cans. When I went in there the next day not only all ants were dead, (seems that every insect in there was trying to make it to the door) but also inside of shed there were dozens of carpenter bees. I had never seen any inside shed before. Obviously some of these holes went inside. Also outside of shed there were many on the ground. Seems to me that the pesticide penetrated through boards to some extent, definitely through the holes. In another small shed( my outside tool shed) it was the buffalo crickets. I am not squeamish about bugs but those things are scary. Sure enough I fumigated the place and soon there were hundreds crawling out of shed dying. Never had a problem again with any of these insects in the sheds I fumigated . I think that stuff lingers for a long time.

Well that's a good question. If I'm at work mow with a kubota zd326 which is a diesel and has a 60"deck. Some times I have to switch to our Toro grand stand with a 48" deck. If the boss puts me on mowing athletics I just a Toro 5910 with 15 feet of decks. But when I come home it's the trust 416H with a 48" deck that I use. I used to use my bronco 14 with the 48" deck but I'm having trans problems with that. If I want to go old school I will pull out my 701 or 753 to mow close to the house.

It's possible the fuel pump can't suck the fuel up because of the air in the fuel lines. Pressurize the tank to push the fuel up to the carb. You can try squirting some fuel or carb cleaner in the carb to fire up the engine and it may create enough vacuum to pull the fuel through. It could take several shots as the carb bowl will need to fill

Welllllll......that’s a tough question! I mow most of my yard with a low hour 96 312-8. I use my favorite 68 lawn ranger for tight spots. I mow about 3 1/2 - 4 acres weekly at my Dad’s with Coyote - my ugly c125, but man is she a good mower! Why? You’re in the wrong place if you have to ask why! Wait, and @oldredrider has had his hands on all three😂!

Sounds like there was crud in the tank that got sucked into the fuel line when it ran empty. Clean the tank, replace the fuel lines, filter, and shut off valve. Hopefiully the crud did not get past the filter and enter the fuel pump and carburetor.

Had a little fuel issue on my B-160. Turns out it was something in the line. It sat for a spell disconnected last summer as it waited for the fresh engine and I'm guessing that caused it. She purrs like a kitten again. Removed the weights for the summer and put the deck on. I put the 48" deck on the 2005 since it's my main mower and the 42" went on this one. Greased everything up and I'm good to go. Well, almost. I just ordered a new ignition switch. The original works fine but is so worn the key won't stay in.
