Just picked up a '68 Commando 8 (1-4831) , with a 36" deck (5-2362) and a front mount plow (6-2133). Needs a little TLC, but couldnt pass it up. The gentleman was even nice enough to deliver it for me as well, and was super nice. Runs well (says it puffs a little blue when it starts), shifts fine, drives nice. Has the horizontal shaft 8hp Kohler. Need to get some belts for the deck, needs to patch a hole in the deck, and need to address some little things on the tractor itself (figure out why the tires are leaking, fix the seat), but should be a pretty easy repair to get her mowing again. I'll post some better pics later, but heres a teaser for now.

I'm employed as a collision repair technician and the company I work for also owns a large scrap facility. It never ceases to amaze me what some people toss: it doesn't even have a dent in it. I think it will go nicely with my 76 c120

I got my block and crank back from the machine shop and am cleaning up parts so I can get this engine back together. I’ve also got the seat finished for this project. Gettin closer to paint. 😁

I just finished rebuilding a 42" deck. I ordered a set of Stens 350-116 blades because they were .203" thick as compared to other aftermarket blades which were only .183". The Stens blades were sharpened, then painted. The edge was sharp, but not enough to cut you since it has a thick layer of paint (or maybe powder coat). They were well balanced, each measured 13-7/8". After making my first pass around the yard, I was impressed. Good clean cut. Set of 3 was $34.50 delivered from eBay.

Agreed, but a K341 at full song is music to my ears as is my Ford V8 or a 6V71 Detroit!

Maybe it eats a lot of fiber? Works for me.

Oh you haven’t seen my other recent project? I made Norman into a limo! It’s a little rough around the edges, but it should ride smooth!

Guys, I really appreciate your comments, it took away the apprehension, it also shows there are people ready to respond when help is needed. Many thanks, dominator

Bring em Kev ... we'll get them unloaded somehow... might have to take them apart & will have a couple of fully charged impacts but we'll make it happen!

What are you going to use it for?? Eaton 1100s are excellent hydros. I only have one. I prefer my Sunstrands (I have 6 or 7) but I have figured out how to work on them. Never tackled an Eaton. Also the Sundstrand hydro lifts work immediately on start up Some Eatons make you wait awhile. As an aside if you are going to work on hydros you are going to need a much cleaner work area that shown in your engine tread. Dirt is a deadly enemy of hydros.

Half decent group of folks here Dominator. As with anything in life we all have our preferences but we do try to be as realistic as possible. When you go to buy that beautiful rig, if you have any questions, ask away ..... Or whenever... Not just about tractors.

Been without a tiller for over a year now and search nearly everyday for a replacement.I drove nearly 5 hours north in New York for work and search the local CL.A nos tiller circa 2000 shows up in Vermont outside of the capitol.A quick car ferry ride across lake Champlain and up through the green mountains to an ol fellas cabin and poof-No lie-sitting in his barn is a never sent the dirt since purchased by him in 2000.I couldn't get my money out fast enough. They are out there!!!!Wheel Horse Sasquatch lol

Jada took a parade lap with dear old Daddy! That Commando 6 sure does steer easy! Probably the best 80 bucks spent in quite a while!

I like the simple anvil like quality of a Kohler but my Onan at full song, is music to my ears.Keep the rear fins cleaned out like 953 nut says and it will last you many a season.

I stopped by an original wheel horse dealer tonight to get a set of concrete/plastic weights that are 70# each. I passed on them because they were beat up, and he convinced me to buy these instead. He claims they are original wheel horse weights. Can anyone verify this? Any votes on which color I should paint them. They are going on my 314-8 for now with silver rims.

I bought this to use around the yard, as I just don't have time to finish my Bronco 14 (yet). I will have to do some minor tweaking as I go, but nothing that will prevent me from using this. I have about 1/2 - 3/4 acre of flat lawn to mow, so I shouldn't be working this too hard. Some things I noticed off the bat: - Someone added a head-light conversion to the front, and a red light on the seat pan. They work, but I want to double check the wiring, and may add a solenoid to be on the safe side. - I have 2 hitches, a stationary one that wraps under the trans case, and the swivel one connected to the lift handle via cable. Not sure if this is normal. - Need to look at the clutch pedal set-up, looks a little off to me. All in all, it will be a fun tractor, to use and to tinker with. I think I did well for the price. I am mechanically inclined, and have the tools to wrench on this myself. Looking forward to spending a little QT with her

I really need to get this thing done! I’m so happy to have the countdown started again, but every day I work on something else, I feel the pressure like last year all over again.

Sally...guilty as charged ! The Big Show for me is 370 miles one way.

Geez.... what do we do with all these leftover parts?
  35. 2 points
Oh my gosh, I apologize for that. Just fixed it. The deck shell is a little rough, but still usable in my opinion. Not making a show tractor (yet). The spindles move freely too and seem very nice, which is a big plus. Nothing is seized up.

That’s the wrong kind of oil pan for a small base engine (more square). That will only work with a big base engine block (long rectangle).

It just sits in the garage which is attached to the house. I try to keep a sheet on it most of the time but I’m not sure that helps all that much. I also try to keep the garage shut up when it’s raining..... I guess if they would start to rust a little quicker I’d have a little more incentive to get them done a little sooner. Lol

Made up another exhaust stack for the C-125 this morning. The one on was an old BSA motorcycle silencer. The outlet pipe was rather holey, with a cut up tin can wrapped round and held by jubilee clips. So cut off the bad bit off the BSA one and the tail end off a tractor one. The result.

Thank you, I had my doubts on how it would turn out. When I got the tractor it just had a section of screen sheet metal screwed in the opening. So I made a new piece out of 12 gauge stock and welded some studs on to it. I saw the horse head parts that went there online, but wanted to make it my own. We have this stencil maker in the shop from 1945 or so. It is a Commando so what better than an Army style font on the front.

2 stroke Jimmys a yes! Ford V8s for me as well.
  47. 2 points
YES, you are. If it is in good condition and you maintain it you should be fine. The cooling fins on the rear cylinder tend to get clogged up leading to overheating, but periodic cleaning and good maintenance will keep it going.

Next small Planing Step ahead for the new FEL. I found a Cylinder for a reasonable price, that offers doubleaction. The lift capacity of the cylinders is 2,5To on given 117 Bar oilpressure in the System and the Dimensions shall be ideal for my Liftarms. calculated it has a liftcapacity for more as 500Kg on Shoveltip, what is more than enough for my actual needs. Same as with the Wheelhorse, i didn‘t wanna Kill the Frontaxle, what has a continouse Max. allowed Load with 514 Kilos. Measured weight at Frontaxle is actual 198Kg, that means i have available 316 Kilos with Spare 300 Kilos. The Crackload is given at more as 680kilos, that means 482 Kilos with mit more spare 400 additional Kilo‘s. That beeing Values, i‘m fine with. The raster was Tile with 20cm length each. Firstly i drawed the new cylinders in 3D, then i build quick a Scaled model on my 3D Printer in fastprint mode with additional Low Material consumption (where i know, the quality was Badly) but just to see ahead how it should work in future, this is good enough. it shows me, the reachable Liftheight on tiltPoint was calculated 2,31meters and in negative it reaches 21cm. compared to the scale here are 2 max. Positions. This Values can be modified by moving the Mountingpoints on the Cylinder, think about a mount with 3 possible stages. The Cylinder was made in Scale, where i marked the max moving point with a dremelscratch. As long as this Scratch was hidden, i‘m in my reachable way.

Raining again today so gotta work inside. If it doesn't quit soon I may have to bale the back yard I am not sure what the title of this picture should be. Impressionist Sculpture? Everything is Upside Down? or Cr@% I'm Running Out of Floor Space! The grey panel in the rear is going to have to wait for good weather. It needs some welding done on it and that's really hard to do in the rain
