11 pointsJust picked up a '68 Commando 8 (1-4831) , with a 36" deck (5-2362) and a front mount plow (6-2133). Needs a little TLC, but couldnt pass it up. The gentleman was even nice enough to deliver it for me as well, and was super nice. Runs well (says it puffs a little blue when it starts), shifts fine, drives nice. Has the horizontal shaft 8hp Kohler. Need to get some belts for the deck, needs to patch a hole in the deck, and need to address some little things on the tractor itself (figure out why the tires are leaking, fix the seat), but should be a pretty easy repair to get her mowing again. I'll post some better pics later, but heres a teaser for now.

10 pointsI'm employed as a collision repair technician and the company I work for also owns a large scrap facility. It never ceases to amaze me what some people toss: it doesn't even have a dent in it. I think it will go nicely with my 76 c120

6 pointsI got my block and crank back from the machine shop and am cleaning up parts so I can get this engine back together. I’ve also got the seat finished for this project. Gettin closer to paint. 😁
-
6 pointsI just finished rebuilding a 42" deck. I ordered a set of Stens 350-116 blades because they were .203" thick as compared to other aftermarket blades which were only .183". The Stens blades were sharpened, then painted. The edge was sharp, but not enough to cut you since it has a thick layer of paint (or maybe powder coat). They were well balanced, each measured 13-7/8". After making my first pass around the yard, I was impressed. Good clean cut. Set of 3 was $34.50 delivered from eBay.

6 pointsAgreed, but a K341 at full song is music to my ears as is my Ford V8 or a 6V71 Detroit!

-
4 pointsLooking forward to this already. Love that @joebob's Robbie V-Plow made the feature flyer!
-
4 pointsGet yer sorry @$$ over here then and gimme a hand getting a dozen more running then! I'll make it an even 11 tractors you get the sickel bar off a certain tractor! Sally...it's only what 3-400 miles more we do to get to he BS! Sides the horse barn we are going to show in needs a little electrical work...bring your kit we could use you!
-
4 pointsOh you haven’t seen my other recent project? I made Norman into a limo! It’s a little rough around the edges, but it should ride smooth!
-
4 pointsGuys, I really appreciate your comments, it took away the apprehension, it also shows there are people ready to respond when help is needed. Many thanks, dominator

3 pointsThat’s just a number.... it’s 1000+ miles for us MN guys to make the big show, and we’ve made the trip. Got another excuse?

3 pointsBring em Kev ... we'll get them unloaded somehow... might have to take them apart & will have a couple of fully charged impacts but we'll make it happen!
-
3 pointsUmmm, Jim We were kinda planning on you for 10 percent of that goal.

3 pointsWhat are you going to use it for?? Eaton 1100s are excellent hydros. I only have one. I prefer my Sunstrands (I have 6 or 7) but I have figured out how to work on them. Never tackled an Eaton. Also the Sundstrand hydro lifts work immediately on start up Some Eatons make you wait awhile. As an aside if you are going to work on hydros you are going to need a much cleaner work area that shown in your engine tread. Dirt is a deadly enemy of hydros.

3 pointsMight just as well stop in FL and grab @clueless and @19richie66 on the way to Indy!
-
3 points@nylyon, we need an "astonished" reaction added to the posts. 😀 These guys do amazing work!
-
3 pointsHalf decent group of folks here Dominator. As with anything in life we all have our preferences but we do try to be as realistic as possible. When you go to buy that beautiful rig, if you have any questions, ask away ..... Or whenever... Not just about tractors.

3 pointsBeen without a tiller for over a year now and search nearly everyday for a replacement.I drove nearly 5 hours north in New York for work and search the local CL.A nos tiller circa 2000 shows up in Vermont outside of the capitol.A quick car ferry ride across lake Champlain and up through the green mountains to an ol fellas cabin and poof-No lie-sitting in his barn is a never sent the dirt since purchased by him in 2000.I couldn't get my money out fast enough. They are out there!!!!Wheel Horse Sasquatch lol

3 pointsJada took a parade lap with dear old Daddy! That Commando 6 sure does steer easy! Probably the best 80 bucks spent in quite a while!
-
3 pointsI like the simple anvil like quality of a Kohler but my Onan at full song, is music to my ears.Keep the rear fins cleaned out like 953 nut says and it will last you many a season.
-
2 pointsJust as the title says, I rescued another one. A big one. My Crown Victoria didn't really notice the weight, but my trailer sure did. She 520xi has 600-ish hours on it but is DIRTY! This is my first foray into the XI series which will be a learning process for me but I am up to the task!

2 pointsSally...guilty as charged ! The Big Show for me is 370 miles one way.
-
2 pointsNothing to apologize for.As they say "shift happens".The photos you posted of the deck seems to indicate its not in that bad of condition.Again nice score.
-
2 pointsNice score but you may want to carefully reread your post and edit it.Just saying.

2 pointsDo you really, really need to get the elbow out of the block?? Some things are best left alone if possible?
-
2 pointsI just figuired it out. I thought it had something to do with the seat switch. Originally I just unplugged the switch thinking that the switch opened a circuit when you sat on the seat but it does just the opposite, It closes a circuit. What I did was unplugged the switch again but this time, I installed a jumper wire inside the plugged and then the tractor ran fine. So the seat switch is stuck in the open position not making continuaty. (spelling) I need to now see if that can be removed and repaired or maybe just need to clean the contact;s inside the switch.
-
2 pointsGood luck for the rework, and please keep us posted please what the cause was. i‘m curiouse at the cause.
-
2 pointsYeah... no provisions to haul doubles though.
-
2 pointsKev, I've seen the way you pack a truck, not sure me and Rich would be good with that, but thanks anyway.
-
2 points@CasualObserver or any one for that matter. We should start ribbing some of the Eastern members about heading this way for the show. @WVHillbilly520H , @Sparky , @AMC RULES, (a good excuse for @squonk to come to Packer land) @rmaynard that campfire juice has got to be gone by now, time to take a drive & pick up more.

2 pointsIf all goes well on the trip to PA, I’m going to try making it to this event too. It’s about 150 miles closer anyhow!
-
2 pointsMade up another exhaust stack for the C-125 this morning. The one on was an old BSA motorcycle silencer. The outlet pipe was rather holey, with a cut up tin can wrapped round and held by jubilee clips. So cut off the bad bit off the BSA one and the tail end off a tractor one. The result.

2 pointsThank you, I had my doubts on how it would turn out. When I got the tractor it just had a section of screen sheet metal screwed in the opening. So I made a new piece out of 12 gauge stock and welded some studs on to it. I saw the horse head parts that went there online, but wanted to make it my own. We have this stencil maker in the shop from 1945 or so. It is a Commando so what better than an Army style font on the front.
-
2 pointsI believe my K341 has that base and it is 2 3/8” from bottom to gasket surface.
-

-
2 pointsYES, you are. If it is in good condition and you maintain it you should be fine. The cooling fins on the rear cylinder tend to get clogged up leading to overheating, but periodic cleaning and good maintenance will keep it going.
-
2 pointsFrom this to this, it's really satisfying to bring one of these back from years of use. How little it cost to have a really nice tractor.
