37 years ago I made this crib for our first son.Then it was used for our second son, and then three grandchildren. It is out again for the fourth grandson coming in June. It is made out of Black walnut, Mansonia , and Afromosia. The acorn finials are Maple. Hopefully it will continue to serve us for a few more generations. I have fond memories of building it, never thinking then that it would continue to be used.It still has teeth marks from all of them.

Hey guys. i need some advice. i just purchased a 1960 wheelhorse suburban 400. I was told by the seller that his father took this tractor in on trade at hit wheelhorse dealership back in the early 70’s. And the owner put this tractor on his showroom floor as a Conversation piece. The seller told me it hasn’t been started since. His father passed a few years ago. The gas tank has zero Oder of gas. The oil is very thin..but clean. The tractor it’s self is in pristine condition. And with my question. i plan on taking it to the local Dealer for service. Oil change, trans hydraulic fluid change , belts and old grease pushed out and fill with new. Should I have them to tear down the engine and put or make new gaskets?

It is not a Trailer Queen and has a few dents and scratches, but it is a good show cruiser. The engine is a good running 12 HP Kohler Magnum and the transmission is a six speed with a 953 differential. Rear rims are of unknown origin, they are five lug and were on it when I bought it. It comes with a trailer hitch, the axle hitch for a snow plow, mid mount and a sleeve hitch. I used to purchase big bundles of slabs from the mill, first for $10/ bundle, then $20 for quite some time. I went through 1-1/2 bundles per month. Even after their price gouge, it was the cheapest and easiest main heat source I have come across yet. It’s good to see good slabs put to another good use! They look like cedar? I imagine that flower bed will be in good shape for many years to come. What a great memorial for man and woman’s best friend!

I have the opposite problem. I'm behind on dishes and laundry because the weather has been too nice and I'm trying to get to my outdoor projects before it starts raining again. That and I make the kids get off the couch and play outside, but since they are 3 and 6 and we don't have a fence they need adult supervision. Now if only I could find an adult around here.

Wife is in Italy visiting the daughter and grandbabies (Air Force) and I decided to have something waiting for her. This will be a flower bed over the grave of her recently passed dog, Daisy. She mentioned a few times that she wanted to do something for that great little dog. So, I'm going to set this up and plant daisies( obviously) and a few annuals for now. The bed is upside down on the trailer because the corner braces are also stakes to anchor it. This is all done with "sawmill slabs". I used my trailer to get everything square. The wheel horse connection is that I'm using the horse that has a setup that I bought from @smoreau a few years ago to move the trailer and as a stabilizer for the trailer. Edit: I know that the corners are messed up, but I caught my mistake before I finished and it's square. 😀

I picked up this polished aluminum horse head recently. It's 8" tall, plus the base. So it might be a little big for a hood ornament. Now I did say might, so time will tell. With the base maybe it was intended to be a trophy that never got engraved. I think it needs about a 10" dia tire to make into a Redsquare style horse. So what creative ideas, do ya'll have for it?

Ok finally was able to get the little 8hp running good enough to go around the yard for the first time. Transmission feels strong it is fairly fast forward and really slow in reverse, not sure if it is an adjustment or a bad spring in the reverse circuit, that will be next on the list and apparently I cut the seal that goes on the shaft that has the cooling fan on it, she leaks pretty good. Still wrestling with the throttle rigging and the governor, man, good they have made that adjustment any easier. Still overall happy with the little 875. I attempted to put the front end on a tree and give her hell, and those big tires bit and the hood started to move, in hindsight probably should have chained it to the tree and tried to pull it down instead of trying to push it over, oh well you can’t win them all, I guess I was just so happy that the transmission was actually working.

Good lookin piece! As myself l take alot of pride in every piece of furniture l build. Glad to see its with stood the riggers of raising children. Had a customer awhile back came to me with their old baby bed and he wanted it turned into a bench to sit on. It was a surprise to his wife for Christmas. The catch was l had a little less than three weeks to turn it out. Cut up everything to refit and this is what l come up with

Correct. It is a pocket watch T Bar Key. Earlier watches used a key rather than a knob to wind mechanism. Key could also be used to adjust hands to correct time. In addition to that it was attached to chain allowing it to be fasted to garment . Very convenient. @LengerichKA88 and @Stormin share the prize. And that is the next Whatizits.

I would say square it off at the bottom to make it shorter in height. Then put on the hood.

Not yet, the RJ-35 that it will be attached to is a project in waiting. I bought the mower because I figured I might never have another opportunity to buy one.

Very nice looking flower bed and a wonderful idea for you wife. Also good way to memorialize your pet. When we run a saw mill at the tractor shows here, the slabs turn into next years steam engine fuel.

It was a marathon drive for sure. I did it in about 42 hours including gas stops. I spent serious greenbacks on Petrol. 3.75 days basically. Once I got to Nebraska I fought storms most of the way to western Wyoming. 40 plus mph winds. no pics as most of it was two handed driving to keep the rig between the lines with all that wind. Not to mention it’s my 4th or 5th time making that particular drive. Not too many good picture opportunities on the route anyway.

I would keep it and learn more about wheel horse tractors and us fine folks at the bestest tractor site on the inner web!!

I wouldn't have them touch the engine with the exception of oil change, cleaning the ignition points and a new spark plug. The dealer probably drained the fuel system and it will probably start right up. If anything leaks they could repair that.

12 and 13 fin blocks use the same guts. All internals are the same. Hope this helps. I have a good running K341 (from a '77 C-160) available if your search is fruitless. Send a PM if interested.

Do you have a picture with the block upside down looking at the connecting rod and crank shaft . You should verify the oil hole in the connecting rod was in the right orientation so oil was getting to the crankshaft journal. As shown in this picture the oil hole (circled in red) should be on the cam shaft side of the block (arrow point to cam shaft)

I agree with Dell. It does look to have the holes to mount a hydro piston.

Too large for the top of hood but not for in front of hood possibly coming off frame directly in front of hood.

I'm mostly chiming in just because I want to say I'm going to follow along and see what happens here. But also because there's really just no way that a 10in anything is too big for a hood ornament. If you put something on the hood of your tractor that crushes the weight of the steel or is so big that you have to physically move your body sideways to look around at either direction then maybe you went a little too far.

Trina and I have both tried being grown ups in past life situations. Neither one of us enjoyed it so, as stated several times in previous post, we have reverted to the age of approximately 5.

Do you have any digging attachments to make the job even more fun?

Not familiar you the coop thing as we raised ours in the hen house. It had two rooms. One for laying and feed and one for roosting. Keeps things cleaner that way. All we fed them was oyster shells and oats raised right on the farm. Get your oats at a grain elevator and avoid farm stores like tsc to save money Oats makes the eggs mild in flavor and the oyster shells make them unbreakable. We very often got more eggs per day than we had chickens so we must have done something right

Nothing to the Wheelhorses but I have progressed on what’s keeping me from my Wheelhorses. At least it’s the right color One more coat of redguard and time to sling some tile.

Here in Va they get turned into stove wood.At least here they do!

Installed the gold infused belt tonight...perfect fit and I’m thrilled. That makes it worth the price to me so far and if it last for years and years then that’s a plus.

Did this neighbor give to you as a project or in exchange for some type of work? If someone just gave something like that to me, selling it to make a profit wouldn't set well with me..
