8 pointsHello, all. Been mentioning this '83 GT-1848 a few times in the last few days. Got her home yesterday morning. It's in remarkably good shape. I'd swear it was repainted if I didn't know better, but every graphic is perfect on it. Was a one owner, then the man's son got it. Came with a somewhat shabby, but complete 48"sd, along with a bunch of spare parts for another 42", all the original paperwork, and 3 new tires. The front wheels look wrong to me.. they have big spacers on them. The color reminds of an old Craftsman. Hydro drive seems to work well. Engine makes an awful banging noise when running at low speed. (And when turned by hand. I'll make a post for that later). But all in all it's in good nick. The entire reason it was being sold was the PTO was 'bad' and slipped. Apparently, a dealer quoted $600.00 to repair it. When I got there first thing I checked was the pad .. plenty of life. Adjustment was still at half way too. Spun the deck slow and it turned with no bad noises, so I left it at poor adjustment. So then I got it home.. Tried adjusting the lever some but no good. Popped the bell off, scorched but good enough to run .. then I left it for the time, and had went to pull the plugs due to a misfire .. and the engine came with the wrench. ALL THE BOLTS WERE LOOSE. The engine could be moved about 2" every direction. Tightened it down, and everything works great Funny enough, fender bolts were loose, brackets were loose.. everything was. No idea how it happened, or why. Picture was when it was 'dirty'. Already went over it with compound and some S.C. Johnson's, and it looks awesome.

6 pointsI would take a look at it as long as you don’t care about originality ( I don’t care about a machine being original or not). Assuming those rear tires are in good shape and not all dry cracked, there’s over $200 just in rear rubber on it. The plow with axle mounts is $150 plus. That seat looks real nice! don’t think the asking price is all that out of line for a custom...maybe offer $400...try to settle in the middle at $450?

6 pointsI plowed my friends garden again this year. It’s seem to work a little better on the first half a dozen or so passes this year compared to last. But of course, I could not leave well enough alone. I thought it should be plowing a little deeper so I turned the crank a couple of turns to make it plow deeper but then it didn’t seem like it would suck down into the garden as deep. I tried to put it back but o never got it to plow as cleanly as it did the first few passes. On a positive note, I had a blast and dad‘s old tractor doesn’t even notice that plow behind it and it pulls straight as an arrow. It’s a 78 C-161.

5 pointsDon't want a "slip and fall " accident in the potty! I was working at a hospital and we were building a big addition. I'm on call for the weekend and the guy on duty calls me and says "you have to come in and see this." he won't tell me what it was but all he would tell me was I would get a laugh. We had strong winds the night before. I get there and in plain view of everyone who came through the main entrance was a porta potty hanging off the 3rd story roof by a wire swinging in the breeze. door had flown open and the TP inside was all wound around everything and needless to say, the tank contents were all over!

4 pointsI just what anyone with a D 250 to know there’s hope when it comes to your Distributor ! I was lucky enough to find Advanced Distributors.com Jeff did a awesome job rebuilding my distributor making new bushings and setting it up correctly ! This tractor now runs so smoothly it amazes me !

4 pointsIf people didn’t mind paying for them, we would. They wouldn’t be cheap but would last a looooong time. It wasn’t a direct fit but pretty darn close. A couple slight mods to the lower mount but I think the upper holding strap may work. I made my own mounts. Not as much capacity as stock but still around 4 gallons. But , it doesn’t leak and I don’t have to worry about poking a hole in it. 👍

3 pointsI have had this and it can be many different issues. Any thing ranging from the governor being out of adjustment, carb main jet may need cleaned / tweaked, points, spark plug (I use an Autolite 437 on some older engines they are a little hotter), old age with low compression, bad gas. Those symptoms are real tough and I would start with the easy ones that cost no cash. My first question though would be was this sudden or over time? Having a rpm gauge tester for real data is good too. Does the engine seem to be running on governor? Could be an implements loading issue, i.e. bad bearing on deck dragging down rpm.??? Just thinking out loud. I am sure the others maybe able to add a few more ideas.

2 pointsHave an opportunity to pick this up for $500 603 that has had the extra sheet metal added to it, like fenders and such. Adapted hubs on the frontto put the 5-12 bar tires on the front. Might need some carb. work. It was a little fickle last time I had it running. Has a Briggs and Stratton 8 horse on it. Comes with the blade. Worth it? Thanks in Advance!

2 pointsIt is pretty simple. I have two and the carbs are very difficult to clean and rebuild to get them to idle correctly. I would look on line for an nos zenith carb for it. I did that for both of mine and they both run perfect now. You will want to clean up points and make sure she has good spark. You may just want to replace ignition as well. Once you have them tuned right they pretty much start on first or second pull every time.

2 pointsThat tractor is cool, it it works good I would jump on it. I have missed out on tractors i should have jumped on because I hesitated on price. I look at one now and the price is not outrageous i make an offer, if they take it nice if not I'll pay what they want. I may have over paid a little on one of two but got good deals on others. I'd rather pay a little over on a good tractor i like than not get it. You get your money back enjoying it. I lost out on some nice tractors for hundred dollars give or take and have yet to get another chance at one as nice. Years of use and fun trumps the dollars.

2 pointsI know the clock is ticking on the rear discharge deck my b100 came with but i cleaned it up, sharpened the blades and fixed the tensioning mech anyway. Today i thought what the heck, I will hook it up and see how she mows. Well what I thought was just going to be a few passes turned out to be a half acre. Now I see what everyone is raving about. For being 45 years old she runs and cuts pretty darn good. She does smoke a little and lord knows I need a new seat but what a beautiful machine

2 pointsIf it runs good you will have to go a long way to find a better tractor. It is basically a 520h without the onan gremlins to contend with. It will outperform any current "garden tractor "costing 4 times that and running 50 percent more horse power.

2 pointsYesterday was definitely a little, uh, off. Ended up with 8" of really wet, heavy snow. That picture was before noon, it didn't really quit until almost 4:30 in the afternoon. Roads were pretty crappy - most of the plows have been taken off and no real salt left anyway after all the ice this year. Ran some errands to a nearby town in the 4Runner - 3" of slush on the highway that was fun to navigate. Yeah, middle of April - right. To think I just mowed a few days earlier in a short-sleeved shirt... Sarge

2 pointsAnother proud Papa moment concerning @Coulter Caleb: He had a long fall with Cross Country and then a very full winter season with Basketball and so even though he was interested in track, he decided to not go out. Well, his second cousin Tim is the coach and he laid out a persuasive argument that Caleb should participate. I told Caleb only to do it if he was prepared and willing to give his full effort. I pointed him to the verse that states, “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might”. Once again, I’m not a big fan of praising mediocrity. Caleb decided to go for it. His first ever track meet was last week. He went out for the long jump, 200M dash, 4x100M, and the 4x400M. The relay teams struggled because Caleb is the only tall larger 8th grader. However, Caleb jumped a 14’9” long jump which set his schools record for 8th graders on only his third jump in competition ever! Even with that, he still took third out of 30 guys and I think he has the capability with training to hit the 16’ mark or better before the season ends. In the 200M he managed a 27.9 which was good enough for 4th out of 25. I feel like he could improve by as much as a second or so there. I am am proud of this young man and how hard he works...

2 pointsI have a Predator on my 606 and it has been great. It starts on the first pull every time and runs strong. I just had to widen the sides of the grill (no cutting) to clear the air cleaner and slightly mod the belt guard. I also upsized the engine pulley to speed it up and it does great. I use it as a tow pig and to push snow. On a related topic, my brother bought a cheap Chinese mini bike about 10 years ago that had a 212cc Predator on it. He is not a maintenance guy and is very hard on things (drives me crazy). That thing still runs strong today and it has never had so much as an oil change.

2 pointsFixed a leaking wheel seal on the loader. Hub was pretty loose thought I had a bad bearing. Key was loose installed a new one tried some JB weld to make up the small gap. We'll see if that works. Pulled the vavle apart to clean out and new o rings. Opened up one cylinder for rebuild. Plan to do them all plus a few new hoses. Then gonna make a quick attach for the bucket and forks.
