It been a long while since I had a W/Horse. Sold everything I had, thought I did not need them. Bad move on my part. This will come with a plow. So I may be back in the saddle again. . Will post a vid when I get it.

Many times I am commissioned for job that is a little more challenging and interesting than usual and this was one of them. So I have this client that has a collection of some very expensive and rare artifacts. He wanted me to make him a modern style display unit for some of them in a small TV room he has in his bedroom. He also had the concern that when he goes on vacation he always removes what he has on display and places them in a large safe. He was concerned about the large safe being very obvious and easily found. So, I came up with the solution of building a large “closet” all the way across end of room where display unit was to go and then the display unit over that wall with a secret movable cabinet that when open will allow him to walk into hidden room where safe will be. He will also have much more space for additional artifacts there. Cabinet is nearly impossible to detect that is it movable (one would have to know it) and it is also alarmed. Cabinet is anigre with glass shelves, weighs nearly 400Lbs, swings on a single pivot and can be opened and closed with one finger. As much fun this one was I am kind of glad it is over.Installation on this one was not easy.

Brought home my third Wheel Horse yesterday. Last week I sold an old Honda ATC 3 Wheeler that I had kicking around. When the guy picked it up he noticed a spare plow I had laying around and mentioned he had his father's old Wheel Horse sitting around and he should probably sell it. Well it didn't take long for me to give him his money back. It's not the original motor, and they cut the hood to make the new motor fit, but other than that it's a good looking machine.

Today in Maine is opening day for fishing in the North Region, these pics were taken in 2013,we say we will go this year but it has been almost 6 years since this trip, life gets in the way.I prefer to go at the end of September when the black flies disappear. After August 15 it is artificial lures and flies only and Rivers, Streams & Brooks close on Sept 30. The Salmon was caught by me and released and caught 2 more and released, within the hour then things quieted down. The brookie was caught by my friend and kept. The salmon was 16'' and the Brookie was 12''. Overall a great day in the woods of Maine. This was south of Moosehead Lake Maine.Of course a little bit of a hike was needed to get to this spot. Enjoy.

@formariz After checking out your fine carpentry skills I thought I would post some older pics of 2 Boiler Installs & 1 Boiler Repipe.I have worked alone for most of my career so I can't take on emergency work but these 3 jobs, nowadays like most of them it takes what it takes to bring them to completion. I smiled when I read your comment about no competitive bidding, 90% of my work is when complete, send an invoice and get paid. Naturally when a lot of material is required deposits are needed. It is nice to have that type of customer base, but takes time to build that type of relationship.

LOL. This is one of those places that I always jokingly say that if you manage to get in there and get away with it you deserve it. Some of the people that I do work for, this one included, are I think a "little" paranoid about security. Every corner inside and outside is on camera every conceivable type of alarm inside house such as even glass breaking sensors. I have done a lot of work for them and probably have set off more alarms on my own than everyone else combined. Many times I didn't even know what was happening until either the police walked in or i happened to see all the lights flashing outside the window. I am extremely selective in my help which I only use for some installation parts and have used the same individual for many years. You cannot have an inquisitive nature inside a place like this and start to wonder around or be nosy since there are always eyes on you. Even for the photos taken I asked permission to do so. In a way that has paid off for me since because the way they are, if they like your work and they trust you the next times there usually is no competitive bidding. They just call you and its yours. They act that way with all trades that do work in their home. Believe me, I have worked for some that I was never at ease thinking similar things. Thank you Eric and everyone. I really enjoy my work and due to the combination of liking a challenge and others not wanting to get into many of these projects for various reasons, I developed a little niche in the this area. Although I have always succeeded, many times I just ask what the heck did I get myself into now. Even the little woman here many times looks at what I am doing and asks "do you know how to say no?"

Our house has secret rooms. Never knew about them until after we purchased it. We were watching TV one night and the former owner pulled in driveway. We'd never met him, but he wanted to meet us and talk. He showed us how to get into them. If he hadn't we would never have found them. He said there's more surprises waiting for us too. Don't know if that's good or bad, but intriguing. Anyway, I should say there's nothing valuable in them. Tresspassers will be shot on site...😘

The mounting points are indicated by the white arrows in the picture if you are using the stock Tecumseh engine. The one behind the engine pulley is a bracket bent to reach a threaded hole in the engine. If you decide to make a new one, the corner marked by the yellow arrow is the only square corner on the entire belt guard. I take all of my measurements from this corner. I clamp a strait edge on to the center counsel and measure down to the belt from it, leaving about a 1/4 to 3/8" spacing between the belt and the guard. The bent edges on the top & bottom are 7/8". Here is an in process pic of one that I made for a custom tractor that I'm working on. I had to make my own guard because I'm using an engine that Wheel Horse has never used.

Good morning, all! It’s hard to believe how time passes. My MIL is still on the mend and today is demo day for the sad house. It’ll be a family affair, and we’ll be searching the rubble for the still missing cat along with some other personal items stuck in the pile of ash. We pray for safety and for help with closure of the open family wound. A quick reminder to tell those those you love how you feel. It’s worth it! Better yet, hold a door for a stranger and smile to passers by in your busy day. I actually had a lady this weekend thank me for holding the door, but go a bit further by stopping in her rush and telling me she really needed that today.

Well as fate always has it each Spring, I'm up against it time wise. Family needing my attention and full time job plus Trout Season opener coming up in my parts and I have four family properties to mow as things begin to warm. Camp is simple! It's on a ridge and won't need anything until May. However one of the properties requires a BIG Zero Turn I bought "used" to keep it's 3+ acres cut. It needs a new deck belt, hydro filter and oil, (then jack up the rear tires and gently engage the speed controls for each pump to bleed the lines), plus new gas filter, new engine oil and filter, two new plugs, a new air filter and blades sharpened and deck greased. This gets tackled later in the week. Next is my "orange tractor" that I need to get ready. It will need two fuel filters, (under the freakin' thing that sometimes requires you to bleed the fuel lines after changing), a hydro filter and new oil, a new oil filter and diesel motor oil, plow off, deck on, (mower deck is already taken care of for the season), and the ag tires off and turf tires on plus I should change out the front axle oil. I missed getting to NAPA this morning for the filters so it was put on hold plus I use the factory hydro oil so I need to see the dealer for it. Now..........in less than one hour this afternoon, I completely readied my 417-8 for mowing. No oil filter! Just changed the oil. Blew out the air filter, removed the deck, took the blades off, sharpened and re-installed and re-mounted the deck after greasing. Changed both spark plugs and changed the gas filter and greased the zerks on the frame. Tranny gear oil level was good. (No Hydro oil or filter to screw with). Between the time and the expensive filters and oil for the "other" tractors/mowers, I sometimes forget just how simple and inexpensive the Wheelhorses are to maintain. No they aren't 4 wheel drive. They don't have power steering or mow super fast and they don't have a 3 points behind them, but the gear drive wheelhorses I have are always available in a pinch and the Orange Tractor will not be doing an inaugural mowing this year. Same as the previous two seasons. (And my 310-8 will be ready to go after work on Monday). Fancy features do come at a price both at purchase and for each year thereafter. Not an issue if you have lots of money and time! And people wonder why I won't part with them!

Hey, all. Not sure if I should put this under attachments, or general. Anyway, some months ago now, I was given a rather unique one owner 1966 1076 auto, complete with add on hydro lift, cab, deck, blower, and a mountain of paperwork. (By this, I mean the P.O. kept track of every oil change, nut tightened, the infamous sundstrand valve springs changed 3 times, replacement bolts.. etc. Even have the warranty card and sales slip.) Anyway, here she is. On with my question. It has an original, by the papers, I'm assuming 1966 vinyl full cab. The rear 'window' is broken out. All the vinyl is a bit shrunk up, filthy, and the framework broke in a few places and was shoddily repaired. I have some experience with old snowmobile seats, but often it's a fruitless effort trying to revive this stuff. Along with worn zippers, broke windows, etc.. While I'm sure Toro doesn't still sell these sections, does anybody reproduce them? I've pondered having a upholstery or boat shop rebuild it, but I'd like to retain the WH markings.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Been lurking on the forums for a while, but it felt like a good time to make my first post. @953 nut The two others are my C-Series. The 175 was my grandparents tractor that I inherited, and I bought the 145 last year so I could run one with a plow and one with a blower so no matter what type of snow fell I was good to go! Needless to say I conquered the winter this year.

A few buddies and I have been going to Kennabego Lake River (near Rangley) in Maine for the last week of fishing (end of September) for the past several years. Great time but fishing has been a grind. This year we are skipping that trip and going to Labrador Canada for a trip of a lifetime. They say a slow day there is 20 plus fish and big boys too. We get to the camp via a float plane and they leave us out at the camp for a week. Cannot wait.

Perzackly Lane. The shim rides on the center thingy of the bearing and is smaller in diameter than the OD of the bearing. I got my 3/4" ID (more on that in the @WHX22 quote) shims at WW Grainger. I bought a variety pack of 20 a there. Works like a charm. All the one's I did were 3/4" The 5091 on my 1976 is 5/8" but the gear design is different so I didn't need them. I'm not going to say all the 3 and 4 speeds are 3/4" but just the ones I've done. NO YOU IDIOT!! Ignore what the owners manual says...…………..but you knew that...………….

Okay. Thank you. I will take that advice. On another note, it was a false alarm on the tapping. A piece of the pto mechanism was loose and tapping against the starter. Pretty relieved.

Be careful on how lean you go. If you are too lean the engine will run hotter and you risk scoring a cylinder or even worse yet melting a hole in the piston. After making your carb adjustments run the engine for a while 15 to 20 min at full throttle, under load would be even better. Then check your spark plug, if the electrode is turning white then you are too lean. I little rich is better in my book.

That's what I do Jim. A 3/4" arbor shim slipped on to the input shaft as you install it through the bearings to allow the detent balls to keep the two gears firmly together. I go for zero end play. You don't need any. Grab a 3523 and a 3522 gear/shaft, put them together and give them a little twisting pressure as you slowly start to disengage them. You won't have to go far before the twisting pressure pushes them completely apart. I figure if I can get about half way before they push apart they can be used if they are held together firmly.

At least the 3 and 4 speeds. The most recent I needed to do this was on a 5025 from an 854 I picked up at the big show last year. It wasn't popping out of third but it had a little play and I was opening it up for inspection anyway. The thing only had about 2 tablespoons of oil in it when I got it and I feared the worse for the rest of the gears but I got lucky. he first time I noticed this was on a 50103 piece case like @cudakid has. One thought on that one was to use thinner side plate gaskets but that wasn't feasible because I was using extremely thin gaskets already.

Excellent craftsmanship, it is nice to see someone very passionate about the end result of their work, I have always felt and approached my trade in that fashion, word of mouth referrals in my opinion show the true character of an individual and have always worked for me.By the way,I have a customer who has something very similar in his basement which prompted me to write this,it is made up of a combination of raised panels and bookshelfs and when you open them there is a room as large as a small bedroom that is a wine cellar, pretty impressive to say the least. On another note, this is where my 1986 417-8 came from, I had my eye on it for many years and when i saw a new Farris zero turn parked next to it one day I thought I would ask about the WH, we worked out a barter in trade for Plumbing work that made each of us happy. To get back to the secret room,I had worked adjacent to that " bookshelf " for quite sometime before he opened it and could not believe my eyes. Keep up the great work.

I broke the lug bolts loose, but made her run the ratchet to pull the tire. The wheel is rotten from chloride I believe. When I handed her the impact to put it back together, I got a “Come on!” from her when she learned I planned that all along.

Geez Bob now you gonna make me run out and measure all of my twenty some trannies .... and I'm already in my pj s and it's cold out! The only reason I know mine are 5/8 is it takes me two of the 5/8 input seals after I futz the first one up! TSC should have machine bushings too Lane. The thin ones that are behinD rims on spindles and in back of the fan gear would work good if you need 3/4. Dino @stevasaurus says I can shift on the wing!?!?....He might just want to get in my trannies tho... Sorry for stealing your thread with our transmission yak Cuda...

I never have either Bob this last 5049 two piece one I did has about 1/16 to 1/8" play, maybe better never measured it, on the input pulley. Never worried about it as other trannys have the same. So what you are saying is using shim stock shim the input shaft, 2-28, over towards the hi/2nd gear 2-30? Maybe leave a little for end play? Does make sense tho to keep the input gear stuffed in the 3523 as much as possible.

Along with the 3523 Jim mentioned the input gear/shaft might be suspect. Do this test before you open the transmission. Put the transmission in third. You'll feel the shifter balls slip into the detents on the rails. Then, with it in third gear see if there's any in/out play on the input pulley. There should be none. If there is, determine how much and make note of it. You'll need to get a 3/4" ID arbor shim of that thickness to slip on the input shaft as you reassemble things. That play represents the amount the 3523 gear can and will disengage from the input gear as you're running it.

Today I tested the turning radius and the answer is a resounding YES! The wide front Barn Find 953 had a sixteen foot outside tire radius and the Narrow Front had a twelve foot radius.
