So i fully restored my rj58 over many many years and cant believe i over looked the tag on the rear end. i thought it had an 8 on it but i took a photo and blew it up i think its a 1960 tranny. Well gee wiz my beauty is a mixture of rj's i guess. I got it when i was a teen and it had a plate mounted and someone had the 2 piece cast on it and my late dad found the right rear end and then i started to restore it a little at a time. I feel like an idiot. im still very proud to own it for all my hard work but now i may down the road find a 58 rear end and restore it. this rear end has been fully gone threw FULLY! Oh well i am still very proud and my dad was proud of it to.

Just spoke to Howard again. Had more stints put in yesterday. He's home and feeling good. Can't lift anything bigger than a coffee cup for a week. He had trouble with his password. @Sparkyis trying to get him back on. He has plenty to talk about. Should be on here soon. Jay

Did some work on my 314-8 tiller tractor and one of my RJ’s this am. Ran the RJ and drove around to make sure ready for show season. Added some gear oil to the tiller gearcase. 972CBE30-64F5-4EAC-BA19-8BCF99FDC06F.MOV

I think it's an Onan thing, I have 3 of the twins and they all suck stuff up. Two of them are early 70's Sears Suburbans with 16&18 Onan engine's in them. In the fall they cover the engine with leaves fast as my Cyclone rake does. You really have to pay attention to that engine cover so as not to over heat that rig. But I have had great luck with Onans "knock on wood" so far, and really love the way they sound and work. Nothing sounds like an Onan governor under load. They are like fine women, keep giving them attention and they will purr, stop and it will cost you big....lol

Right now Randy, he’s taking seizure medicine that the dr says gives him an 80% chance of never having another one. As far as we know, he is on it for the long haul. We don’t mind as long as the meds do their job. He is one tough little guy and everything to me! I would go crazy without him. He goes with me every step and trip I take. I couldn’t ask for a better little buddy!!

Finally got the Auto 18 home. Have to track down no charge issue but don't seem too complicated...yet. I got an oil filter adapter to install and probably hunt for a tin with a hole instead of cutting one. Is it possible to add an oil pressure gauge someplace? If so, electric or not? And, can steering brakes be added at some point? Might have to get a new transmission temp gauge since it goes to 250 when ignition is off but zeros out when on but never reads a temp after running. Came with 3 point, new rear end, extra rear and internals, 4 hydro pumps, front axle, rims, fenders, 2 gas tanks, hubs, blah blah blah. The 4 ft tiller is no joke. After carrying it twice, I need to get 3 point re-attached and be done. Any advice on this beast is welcome! I have been reading a lot thanks to the free files but, we all know reality and print are different ends of the same snake! Thank you so much Horse Fans!

Running down hydro leaks on my primary snow horse. New hose and new control vlave seals form Wheelhorseman. Now to the pump. Motion control leaking. One axle seal was seeping hardly enouogh to bother with but as long as she is off snow duty. Decided to pull the hubs...Absolutely one of my favorite passtimes...NOT!!! Do not believe the hubs have been disturbed since 1969...

Thanks so much for all of the prayers folks!!!! We went to Emory’s orthopedic doctor today and got a lot of relief! He had Emory do a standing X-ray of his hips. He relieved us in that he said he didn’t feel that Emory has thinning of the bones or displacement of his hip. His socket is normal and development is on target for a child his age. Any irregularities are typical of a child with cerebral palsy. He will visit the dr again in a year with X-rays repeated in 2 years. Now, we can breath a little easier!!!! Thanks again for all of your prayers, support, and kind words!

Does anybody know of a good honest place around northeast indiana that someone could take coins, pocket watches and get them looked at i mainly want to know the history but the value would be nice to of course. I went to a place in fort wayne called fair fields and wasnt impressed with there attitude. I was super excited and just wanted help and some knowledge of what i had. And i know from research i did online what i have but wanted an expert to tell me face to face. Here is an old pocket watch i have i have 2 but this one is the oldest. it still works great. but i dont know much about it!

I got along with the truck decals, electric lift, k91 electric start, dual adapters, couple big boxes of Kohler parts in which I found 2 elbows for updraft oil bath air cleaner for an RJ and some schnacke nuts, box of Kohler carbs, mule drive for 60inch deck, rocker shafts for lifts, 14hp Kohler short block, box of hubcaps and some used parts including some good recoil stuff.

I was planning on cutting a new key way in the hub. I didn't want to split the trans if I could avoid it. Thinking about trying to make a brass key and welding around it and file/grind it back. If that doesn't turn out I would go your route for sure. I am a Tool Maker and have access to all the equipment that I would need. Will be adding another set screw to each hub also.
  22. 4 points
That key way looks pretty ruff. Not sure of your skills but here is what I would do with that. Fill the key way by welding it up, turn it down on a lathe to true it back up. Then cut a new full length key way on a mill. I assume that the key way in the hub is not in good shape either, this can be resolved by cutting a new key way 90degrees to the old one and drilling a new set screw hole over that key way. Pics to show the repairs that I did on my Raider 12.

LOL. Allow me to then give you a migraine. The most ingenious woodworking tool ever developed in my opinion. It can make nearly 100 different moldings without ever being plugged into electricity.

@squonk Is laid up at home with back pain , he and Howard speak the same language (? ) so works out for every body . Some thing to keep Mike busy and Howard has someone to talk to allllll day long.

Went out and worked on the 416-8 yesterday. It's the one that I put the BF MS Onan in. Got everything hooked up except the coil and charging wires along with the exhaust. The exhaust is a little tricky as it does not have the threaded holes for flanges but rather threaded holes in the block. I was able to use black iron pipe to screw into the block so now I need to put a couple of 90s on and decide on what muffler that I want to use.

Started on the engine. Looks more Techumseh-ie in the pics but it'll get K90'd. The super duper spark plug is just so I can hold it. It's glued in the hole so it'll just be cut and shaped later on.The little circle on the flywheel side isn't glued or staying, just used for reference. (amazing how many flaws you can see in the close up pics. Completely unnoticeable by the naked eye. At least mine anyway!)

Started to tear down my Commando tonight and already see it's gonna be fun to fix. This little tractor runs great no smoke and starts at the touch of the key. The hitch pin decided it liked being where it was and I had to convince it otherwise. The rear axle seals look to have been leaking for some time, so the hubs slid off...but the key's are needing some work. Looks like it will be a fun little job to bring her back. If this is the worst I get it should go pretty fast.

I used my first 520H as a 4 season horse for 15+ years, if you keep after it mowing the lawn will not bother it, just use the compressed air after each mowing then each (or every other) fall pull the seat/fender pan and dash panels and power wash...even my new water cooled mower gets plugged up with grass while mowing it's the nature of the beast sometimes even worse than pictured.

Ya I did pull the back covers off. The hydro unit was packed full. I had to use a long thin screwdriver to get into all the fins. The fan was packed to where it had worn a grove into the packed grass. The only covers I did not pull were the two dash panels you show above. The pic of the pile was taken way too early. After that was taken and thrown away I got that much and more from other places. I used 150 psi air to blow out everywhere. I didn't think it was going stop blowing crap out. I got real lucky I think, that nothing seems to be bad. The hydro unit had to be getting hot when driven. The engine could not have been cooling itself. Yet the hydro unit is quiet and the engine does not smoke. I added sea foam to the engine gas and oil and ran a tank full. Changed oil and filter, hydro flush and new filter. It has a 48 in deck that runs quiet and looks to be in great shape. Deck is on the saw horses now to be torn down and gone thru. New seat on the way, and tires waiting to go on. This may be the best $$ spent on a tractor yet for me. I mow just over 2 acre with a C-160A with a 48 in deck. Don't know yet where this tractor will be working. But after seeing how much it collects when mowing it may get a different task to do around here. Should be fun figuring it out.

I have been searching for an original 754 for a few years now as it is a rare bird that I have wanted for some time. Finding a 754 is difficult enough but when this one came up for sale locally from another member here I had to get it. Motor was bad in it and will need a rebuild. I found a replacement 8 that was recently rebuilt from another local member. After swapping parts and some paint here she is.... I do plan on rebuilding the original motor at some point but it needs machine work etc. That will be a future project.

I run a mechanical oil pressure gauge off the port just above the oil filler tube. Will get you a pic tomorrow. I have the steering brakes on my d200 not really impressed. I would save my money for something else. Temp use an electric Sunpro. (mechanical sending units are too long to fit into the pump)

Looks great John, but I would like to have seen the pics of the innards (crank, rod, piston, valves) before you put the head and pan on.
