Well... I've been scrolling past these two wheel horses for a few weeks. One of the tractors is a C160, the other a C120. Both hydros. They'd been posted for 6 months, so I figured they were gone, but I inquired anyways. $600 for the C160, $500 for the C120. That was more than I figured they were worth, so I forgot about them. Checked back a few days ago, and they'd dropped the price of the C160 to $300 and the C120 for $225. After messing with my GT-14, a friend of mine became interested in WH's. He decided he wanted the C160, so I figured I'd buy the C120. Both are supposed to be good running tractors, and they have new Exide "classic" automotive batteries on them (Which are about $100 a piece). The C160 needs a starter; the shaft snapped as can be seen in the picture. The handle to engage/disengage the hydro is also broken. The C120 unfortunately has a Tecumseh, but is supposed to run good. I can always put a Kohler on it if I have issues. I believe both have 42" decks that appear to be in amazing shape. One deck has Toro on it, so I know it's newer. As an unexpected, but welcomed bonus with the tractors was an extra attach-a-matic with mule drive, which will go on my GT-14 for when I find a deck. They were about 2 hours from my house, but about 15 miles from my moms place, which I was going to anyways for thanksgiving. They're sitting outside but I won't have a chance to mess with them much until I go home on Friday. How do y'all think I did? I haven't found a mower deck, let alone a complete tractor for $200, so I don't think I got hurt too bad.

They're all best to restore and collect. I dont mean that to be smart either, I say that because I truly mean it. They're all great machines in their own way. I personally have a love of the short frame square hood tractors, for example the 855 through the commando 8. I love the 8hp kohlers, but I've had my share of rj's too. Neat little tractors. I know this probably doesn't help much but I guess I'd say the best wheel horse to collect is whichever one you like the best.

Used the Burb as a Christmas piece today!

Got a bit of a better explanation on why the bruising appears as it does: since it is sprained, and their is no way to keep him off of it, the bruising is appearing as he’s aggravating it. The doctor said it was consistent with a fall, and doesn’t appear to be intentionally done. Thanks again everyone, my stress level has plummeted

Red Square has become more than just a tractor forum. It has become a place where members come for support and advice for all kinds of things. People here could not be nicer. I've seen people try to be negative or nasty only a couple of times and they were quickly asked to stop or leave the forum. My thoughts and prayers are going out today for you and your family. I'm sure there will be more on the way. Happy Thanksgiving!

So close.... a little more trimming. The cross tube will probably have to go but I’ll ad some cross supports back in later. Plenty of room.👍. This hoya lift I got for FREE is awesome for this hobby. Locking casters, the legs open to fit around things and it’s lightweight. Capacity is 400lbs. Perfect for this work. And my wife can use it to lift me out of bed.😁

My advise it to collect 'em all... to accurately determine which one's are the "keepers" for you.

Nothing is broken, thank goodness. No permanent damage. Sprained ankle. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

Totally agree with what Mike said. But just to give my humble opinion, I think that the 1974 through 1977 B/C series are the simplest and easiest to find abundant parts for. If you, for example, are restoring a B-100, almost any part from a B-80, C-100, C-120, or C-160 will work. There are some slight differences, and in the '74 and '75 B-80's you will find a few more, but that's about the extent of it. And Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

Hello All and Happy Thanksgiving, I voluntered to work my P/T job at Cabelas as my son was working too and we will have Turkey day later as a family... so... the Cabelas resteraunt folks put dinner together for all the employees working. In all the chaos they left one of the turkeys in the oven. My question is whether its done? LMAO... we all got a good laugh out of it. Tony

As I am up, starting the smoker, I would like to wish everyone on this site and their families a Happy Thanksgiving. I am very thankful for God, my family, and friends. I want to thank all the members of the military, Law enforcement, Fire, and EMS departments, that keep our country safe and free.

You have nothing to apologize for, concern for your brother's well being is admirable. It takes a special staff to deal with and to tend to the needs of special people and treat them with compassion and dignity. If you suspect abuse has occurred you should immediately contact the appropriate state social services agency. Friends of ours have twin boys in their forties who have been in a facility near Franklin, NC for most of their adult life. It is a wonderful caring residential facility and I pray you can find a comparable place for your brother. http://fullspectrumfarms.org/index.html

Overall I think that's the most accurate answer. There are some that are quite rare. There are some that are a fair amount more powerful or more stable than others. Those things would make certain models more collectible than others. There is certainly going to be a very large variable in this equation called... Opinion. It is a matter of what you are attracted to in the looks of these tractors. Personally, I'm a big fan of the 8 horse Kohler in pretty much anything. As far as the shape of a tractor I prefer the B or C Series. I think it's fair to assume that Trina would put in a vote for the mid-60s like her 657.

Well as some of you may seen, i had a add up in the other brands section of the classifieds. it was to help a gentlemen out. His son had passed away and left a large collection of tractors. he was a big wheel horse and speedex fan. Well i helped the gentlemen clear it all out and it was alot. At the end of it all, all i took was the stuff i purchased. Even though i drove 45 minutes one way every time something sold or someone came to look, to make sure a fair deal was made for both parties. Well to my surprise i was up there the other day and was given this book that him and his son each got a copy of at the big show a few years back. Then he tells me that the 1056 that was there is mine for helping out. I told him i would pay for the 1056 and he said nope, he only told me it was sold cause he wanted me to have it. He said the 1056 was something his son really liked and and always wanted to get going and keep original as possible, with keeping in mind that somethings would have to be changed due to condition. it has a 12 hp kohler on it, which im ok with. the rear fender pan is completly shot. it rusted all the way through unfortunatley. But i found something there that will work and will suit the need and i think will make him happy when i show him it. im gonna go kinda custom with it but preserve the patina. he said he knew i had to have it when he seen my reaction to the bug lights. he says it takes a special person to like those. but i got it home now and will start a thread on it soon.

I'm not a big Turkey fan but we go to my wife's aunt and uncle's house every year. He deep fries two turkeys. One is cajun and it is delicious. They feed about 20 of us and I love going. On my side of the family we always went to my folk's house on Friday evening and we usually had something other than Turkey to avoid the Turkey overload. Mom and Dad are both passed now so my wife and I have Thanksgiving and my brother and his wife host at Christmas. We still do something other than turkey and this year we did a Cajun Bake. We fill large baking pans with shrimp, andouille sausage, baby potatoes, corn on the cob, and onions with plenty of spices. We did that last night and it was really good. It sounds corny but I'm thankful for this forum. It allows me to have a fun hobby without breaking the bank with all the knowledge shared here. Happy Thanksgiving!

Today, Fried Turkey, Roasted Capon (desocialized rooster), Oyster and Andouille Sausage Dressing (from North Carolina down it's called dressing), Mac and Cheese, Collard Greens with Ham Hock, Green Beans, Cat Head Biscuits, and Sweet Tea (It is the South). The desserts and salad will consist of what ever the good Kinfolk bring. Plenty of left overs for the other Kinfolk to take home (we all got'em). Y'all have a great day .

Prior to my Father-in-law's passing we would all gather at his house for Thanksgiving. My wife and I would come on Wednesday and I would bake two Pumpkin, one Cherry and one Apple pie. Thursday morning we would fix the Waldorf Salad and my wife would always manage to stop up the garbage disposal, just seemed to be part of the holiday tradition. After about three years of this happening I took a look at the way the plumbing had been installed and discovered the problem. A quick trip to the home improvement store and there were no more stopped up drains. I thought I had done a good thing, but it seems I had broken a long standing tradition.

    i was able to day to get the old tractor off the truck today ;the one with the Briggs motor that was replaced from a kohler 'the year i was told it was made back in the 66-67 era ' model number still not sure of ;as the only numbers i have are off the fly wheel shroud which again are # B-703866 or if it is a 8 horse or bigger 'but anyways after unloading it and starting it first pull 'boy did it fire up ;both the choke and throttle cables are froze up ;so i added a small piece of wire to the middle of the throttle linkage and the old thing ran fine ;then i took it for a spin around the yard a few times and i was really impressed as the power it had ;then i engaged the mower deck which ran fine with no noises or no bad spindles other then it could use a good greasing' and blade changing; the braking does need adjusting which is no big thing either as it creeps in neutral 'checking the oil i really do not see a dip stick as in the front of the motor is where you add the oil and behind the block on its right side is where you check the oil level ' but in all for a 100.00 bucks i didn't go wrong ;changing the transmission filter and oil would help as well' again i want to thank the ones that did reply 'there is nothing like having 7 horses in the barn ;

To all you Wheel Horse experts ,collectors and restorers out there. I was just wondering what you think would be the best wheel Horse to restore. And ones that are most collectable . I do like the style of the 1958-1959 RJ . And the 1966 -1967's . I was just curious what you all thought was the best out there to collect. Thank you for your time. Much appreciate it. And have a great Thanksgiving. Bob....................

I know I haven’t been around RS long, but the few months I’ve been here the things that’s stuck out to me most is the way that you all seem to take care of eachother, beyond the tractor aspect of things. That’s part of what’s kept me around here, is that this forum is filled with good people. Because of that, I have a request, but indulge me a little back story: I am the oldest of three. My younger brother and sister both have “Fragile X Syndrome”. This is a genetic mutation that affects the X Chromosome and, depending on the severity of the mutation, can lead to different mental and developmental delays. Both of my siblings are on the Autism spectrum. The aggrevating thing about thisnosnthat they’re not “like rainman” and don’t have any “superior talents” like some on the spectrum. My brother is 28, non verbal... he functions at a toddler level. My sister is 22 and is much higher functioning. My brother had to move into a residential care facility in his teens, because his behaviors were too much for my parents to handle. Because of the severity of his outbursts, he has continued to live in various residential facilities since. We recently moved him from one due to neglect, and it looks like we may have another case of it on our hands. Apparently my brother fell this past weekend and no one notified us. My mom seems to think (or is putting on a optimistic face for my sake) that it really was a fall. These bruises appear to be in various states of healing, varying severity, and are separated by unbruised skin. To me, it looks like someone either repeatedly slammed his leg in a door, or hit him with something like a rod or yard stick. I pray I’m wrong, and that it truly was an accident. I would appreciate prayers and positive vibes A) for a quick recovery for my brother, although he doesn’t seem to be affected by the bruises. B ) that we find out the truth, and that the appropriate actions that may need to be taken are able to be taken quickly. Today is a day to be thankful. Today of all days I shouldn’t have to be worried about my little brothers saftey and well being. Thank you, for reading my little rant, and for any support in any form that you’re able to offer.

I greatly appreciate it. My brother is just shy of 6 feet, MAYBE 130 pounds soaking wet. He’s always had a high metabolism, the guy can out eat anyone I’ve ever met. One of his favorite things is pie, so to help him along the road to recovery I sent him home with a quarter of a 10in pumpkin pie 😂. It’ll be gone before 8am tomorrow. Since he’d been made to sit still so long (Waiting room, X-ray, Etc) we let him roam around the house as he pleased, even though his ankle is in the state it is. He didn’t wander long when he got up, but he didn’t stay in one place long either. All three of us are the restless types, and you could see he was just happy to not have to sit still. We had a truly happy Thanksgiving. I greatlly apprciate everyones thoughts and prayers. Just goes to show that they do get answered.

Awesome pictures and story, Jack! Stories like that make me miss the times that I wasn't fortunate enough to experience. I would give almost anything to have been born about 50 years earlier. I've always loved the looks of the 67-72 Chevy trucks. It's always seemed they lacked in the area of footwell space though. I'm going to guess that you didn't climb back up that structure again until your dad said you could! Lol!

So...I’m just chilling out at mom and dad’s with the family for Thanksgiving and this thread was brought up by @ZXT once again. It got me thinking about some pics that I had promised you guys on the first page or so. They were in photo albums in the basement and so I wandered down and will record them here for posterity. This was was my uncle Bob’s 1972 Chevy K10 that he owned for about 35 years. This picture was taken in 1982 when my dad refurbished the body for him. Dad is a decent “non professional” body guy and Bob’s truck was showing quite a bit of rust by the time it was only 10 years old. Dad spent one week on the project and this is how it turned out... It was an orangey red color and I always felt it was one of the coolest looking trucks ever made. (Note uncle Ken’s blue 1969 C20 in the background as well as dad’s ‘66 Scout) It’s funny how certain memories stand out in your mind. That is me in the front of the picture followed by my cousin Andrea. My cousin Paul is in the back of the truck. We were in the truck bed together playing and we started arguing about something. I was old enough to get down out of the truck by myself and so I did and left him complaining by himself! (Photo: circa 1982) While looking for the pics of Bob’s truck I came across this. I was about 5 years old and had been bugging Dad for a year to build me a fort (girls have playhouses, boys have forts!😂). Dad is wearing the hat nailing the floor joists while my mom’s brother Uncle Jim is painting the uprights and I’m the happy assistant. Dad finished the joists and laid a couple of boards across them before he had to go in the house and get ready for the evening service. Before heading in he looked at me and said, “Don’t go up on the fort floor yet! It isn’t finished and you’ll fall and get hurt.” “OK Dad!” After he went in the house, I looked around and thought to myself that I could climb the ladder, look around, and climb back down AND NO ONE WOULD EVER KNOW! I climbed up and took one step, the board flipped up, I fell through the joists hitting the back of my head on the joist as I fell through and hit my chin on those wooden saw horses you see in the picture. I got up crying and ran to the house. Dad met me at the back door. He looked me over once and said, “You went up on the fort didn’t you!” “yes” (through my sobs) ”Go do it again!!!” “No” (crying) “Go right out there, climb the ladder and do it again!” ”No” (starting to sober up now) “If you won’t listen maybe you need to do it again until you learn to obey!” ”I’ve learned my lesson!” Dad was and is so smart! 36 years later and I still remember it like yesterday! Notice the Scout in the background. It was part of the fabric of our life just like the Wheel Horse 875. We also had the above pictured 1971 Ford LTD wagon that we travelled the country in the early days of the ministry. It was a beast of a car but a smooth over the road machine...

Click on the picture Drain plug is 1/4" NPT with a socket head located on the bottom near left rear corner. Takes an Allen wrench so the hole may be full of dirt. Clean and tap the wrench in to make sure it is well seated. A thread sealer is required and they do not need to be singing tight. What mower deck do you have? These all have 3 blades. 36" side or rear discharge 42" side or rear discharge 48" side discharge. Garry

I grew up in a family that has always liked old cars & trucks.. Here are a few that I own. I was born in 97, but I don't consider much after the mid 80's "classic". Not yet, anyways. This was my "first" truck. I had one other at this time (at age 15) but this is the one i drove. 84 W150 with at first a 360/auto, then a 318 and lastly before I (regrettably) sold it, a 273. Only vehicle I've ever sold. Got rid of it to buy a 3/4 ton that was better suited for hauling. Selling that led to this, a 99 2500 V10/auto truck that was at my local salvage yard about to have another truck sat on top of it. Thought that was incredibly stupid, and I wanted a V10 (though I really wanted a long bed 5 speed), so I saved it. Had 0 compression in the #9 cylinder, and I could hardly see the rocker arms for the gunk buildup. Swapped it and its been great since. This one is one of my current projects that I've neglected. Bought it from a Mexican guy that was going to haul it off for $150. 68 D200, 318/granny 4 speed. Been off the road since 75. #8 cylinder full of water. Debating to go back with another 318 or put one of my spare big blocks in. This was my first to own, given to me by my dad. Currently in the process of LS swapping it. 65 El Camino, 5.3/5 speed. This is another project that I didn't need, but for $200 I figured why not, since I didn't have any older short beds. Originally a 225/4 speed overdrive, but I'm putting a FI 318 magnum with a 5 speed. Lastly, not a truck but I will be bringing this home to add to the herd this weekend if I get a chance. 81 Porsche 928 5 speed. 4.5 V8. This will make 4 928's for me. Probably too many pictures, but I'm sitting here bored and not able to work on my new Horse. I may not have a problem collecting Horses, but I do seem to have one when it comes to cars...these pics are only part of them. Now i just need the money to work on all of them. I'm more of a Dodge and Chevy guy.. and I don't care a bit for post-60s fords. Things down here don't rust thankfully.

I was at the VA last Friday and a gentleman with a “WWII VETERAN” hat thanked me for my service. It was very humbling coming from someone who saw some of the worst things man can do to one another. Im grateful that I was left a country to defend, by those before me who swore the same oath. Mom and brother are en route to the ER now to have his leg, ankle, and foot examined. Fingers crossed that there’s nothing beyond bruised skin.

Did the same thing with deer meat once. Had a friend over for hamburgers that thought he didn't like deer meat. The burgers were 1/2 and 1/2 beef and deer. He gobbled down two burgers and said how gooooood they were! Same with a sweet potato pie with an uncle of mine!

I gotta story about brown pumpkin pie lol my grandpa used to grow butternut squash. His sister in law was visiting and asked why he was growing “garbage food”. She said that only poor people ate butternut squash. He loved it, and used in in a lot of different things. He told her “I could make you a pie outta this and you’d never know.” Next time they were over from Chicago he made her a pumpkin pie. Everyone loved His pumpkin pie, and this time was no exception. It wasn’t till after she’d eaten it he told her he made it with butternut squash instead.

This is an excellent thought and one that probably should be used on all garden tractors. Summit Racing (and others) has an in line sixty amp fuse holder with 6 gauge wire that could be connected between the battery and the "B" terminal on older ignition switches, or between the battery and solenoid on newer systems. This should protect the whole system in the event of a short to ground in the switch or solenoid. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bss-hhx?seid=srese1&cm_mmc=pla-google-_-shopping-_-srese1-_-bussmann&gclid=Cj0KCQiAxNnfBRDwARIsAJlH29Bdi73Kev87Y9qN7WsAnI4n-uvQdswDywGGWOmLjs4l0p08QDPjYMQaAtzgEALw_wcB

We had the family gathering last weekend. I just harvested a buck today and tomorrow I'm going to try to smoke some pork and deer ribs like my father-in-law used to do. Every Thanksgiving he always had deer, hog, turkey, duck, fish, and anything else he could find to throw on the BBQ pit, what a feast. So here's his deer/pork rib method! Season pork and deer ribs with his homemade dry rub. Place deer ribs on grill bone down. Lay several strips of bacon on top of deer ribs Lay pork ribs bone down on top of bacon/deer ribs The idea is for the pork ribs to drip on to the lean deer ribs and keep them moist/marinated as they smoke. I'll report back tomorrow!

While I enjoy seeing everyone, I have to admit that I am glad when every one heads home & I can have some quiet time . I've had my turkey soaking in a beer based brine since last night, it will be going in the smoker at about 4:00am so that it will be ready for dinner at noon. Happy Thanksgiving all.

I finally got the axles back from the guy that turned and shortened them for me. The tranny's back together with new bearings and seals and I have modified the fender pan support and tool tray to fit the 8 speed and cut a slot in the tunnel cover for the hi/lo shift lever. Once I get done modifying the frame and tins I'll take it back apart to paint it. I considered powder coating this project but decided to stick with paint instead.

Well, OK...here is one for New Years Eve and New Years Day. This is a deep dish pizza, cooked in a 16" cast iron skillet. It layers with Mozzarella, tomato bits, pepperoni, browned hamburger, garlic, green pepper, onion, green olives, salt, oregano, basil, thyme and topped with Mozzarella and Parmisian cheese. Bakes for 45 minutes at 400. House smells excellent.
