12 pointsRealized I never actually put my tractor up here so figured I better. 1981 C-175 automatic with the series 1 motor. Kwik way loader with bucket and dozer blade. Snowblower rigged up to the loader...will be putting it to the test this winter. Rear kwik way 3pt with grader blade. Just had the pto bearing go out so gotta order parts tomorrow. Other than that I need a proper spring for the snowblower pully, weld the chute control arm back together along with fixing a few broken welds and fix a few fluid leaks and she'll be set! Have really enjoyed it so far and look forward to getting her buttoned up. Definitely gave me the wheel horse bug!

12 pointsWell that explains all the school closings this morning. Guess it's about time to get a blade on horse.

10 pointsSo we are hit with a surprise snow storm this morning. Thank goodness we finished leaf pickup yesterday. Well I go out to the garage and get my tire chains that I had on the 416-H last year winter, but they won't fit this year. No matter what I tried they were just too short. So what's going on here? Then my wife comes out and sees the smoke and steam coming out of my ears and asks 'do you even need chains? You just put new tires on before the show this summer!'...duh... new tires, more tread, larger diameter, chains too small. Moral of this story...be sure that your brain is fully engaged before working on your horse.

9 pointsOH OH !!! The deer hunters are in the woods. Here is what they do in Wisconsin so they know that this is not a deer.

8 pointsJust finished our Pa. archery season on Monday. This was the first in many years that I did not even see a shooter in archery. Maybe I gotta get those cataracts removed. Our rifle season starts on Monday after Thanksgiving. Maybe this ones brother will show up like he did last year. GOOD LUCK and BE SAFE

7 pointsThe weatherman was wrong again and we got 7” of the wet stuff overnight. They said about 1-3” so I didn’t even put the 54” blade on the C-161. I assumed the 606 Rat would struggle but it did great even with the blade angled. I started off in the back pushing straight ahead since I assumed it wouldn’t stay straight with the blade angled. The hill worried me but it went right up. My son snapped a video and some pics. I had a blast. Sorry for all the pics. 6E8D0B79-7EE2-4BCA-B322-AC3EE5710237.MOV 071927F9-C1B8-4331-8288-5EAD280F3332.mov

7 pointsMany things can go wrong with an S/G . Bearings you can hear them, brushes, armature, field coils. or just the regulator ...do you have any idea what is wrong with yours. Noisy or no charging or no starting??? Unless you have a clue I would look for a place that specializes in automotive starters generators alternators.. They can figure out what part has failed and not just throw kits/fixes at it.

6 pointsJust got these installed last week, they're Maxxis Bighorn 2.0's in 23x8-12. I couldn't find *any* pictures of this tire mounted on a tractor anywhere, so I figured I'd post them up for others to reference. I'm regretting not going with the 10" wide size as they ended up being a little narrower than i expected (they look narrower than the stock tire to me) and I don't think the extra width would have sacrificed any traction. That said, I'm confident they're going to work just fine. They are filled to the top with beet juice and have quite a bit of weight to them. I use this tractor to cut grass, run the snowthrower, and I am hoping to use it for plowing/discing my garden this spring too. Was planning to use my wheel weights in combination with this but I don't even think it will be necessary.

6 points54" plow with with rear chains and wheel weights on my 1257. I enjoy doing the driveway with a classic.
-
5 pointsWith the 520 that have the swept forward front axle you really need the 48"+ width when angled so the snow isn't falling back under the tires but any thing other than that a 42" is fine, and like the xi series I fabbed up a front sway bar to help keep the plow frame from twisting in the axle bracket/hitch and allowing the angle lever to rub the belt guards or foot rest...

5 pointsHappy Birthday to what is hands down the best online forum I've been a member of. When I joined up here a little over 2 years ago, I had just acquired my first Wheel Horse and stumbled across RedSquare while doing a Google search for information on my tractor. Like most all of us here, I signed up because of my tractor, but little did I know I would soon be part of something much more than a tractor group, all the members here are like one big extended family, one that I am very proud to be a member of. Not only are we all here to lend a helping hand with each other's projects, but we have also shared many laughs, and a few tears along the way. Even though I have only met a couple of our members in person, I feel like I know several of you just by the online connection we have, and am honored to call each of you a friend. So here's to the past 12 years, and many many more to come

4 pointsWell, I am looking for Bowinkle and picked up a 7 point. Not bad for my first deer ever! Yeah, I’ve been hunting for 10 or 11 years... It’s snowing hard, I have to resume search for #2 in the morning I guess.

4 pointsMy 80 Toyota 4x4 DLX Bought it new. Started working on it in June after sitting for 23 years. Cleaned the gas tank new tires, belts, hoses, clutch and slave cylinders, brakes and break hoses, grill, paint.

4 pointsMy wife asked me why I need 3 tractors. I said one for each grandson. Before she thought about the outcome she asked, what about the granddaughters. Now I need 5 more.
-
3 pointsSo wifey said to prepare some ground for veggies and what not. I am amazed how well that 50" D series tiller makes short work out of it. It comes out level and perfect. When sitting there with gear reduced steering and hydraulic 3 pt. I found my self wondering why I ever had another horse than this one. It is such a beast, and I just love that throaty twin Kohler popping growl, when the tiller gets engaged. Sweeeeeet!

3 pointsTrina and I spent some time this evening putting the snow/dozer blade on the Patriot B80. The first Wheelhorse Implement we've used. I've Never plowed with a tractor and I'm really looking forward to it. We had to find and install all the brackets and levers and located pins and bolts and such around the workshops. Aannddd... I was looking for all the above listed stuff and found a Wheelhorse down pressure bar !!! So of course I had to try it out on the leaves at the edge of the driveway. Here's a few pics.

3 pointsSo I parted 2 701s earlier this year that was in poor shape. I kept parts I needed and listed rest. 1 part I kept was toolbox. The original had holes drilled in odd places and was bent good from when original frame snapped on original owner. This toolbox here is pitted but I put new layer of paint down to protect it until I can fix it. I also plan to fix to the dash tower on this one eventually. I got a junker dash tower I can cut to make this one back to original. I can weld it pretty good but that will be later on.

3 pointsI am getting pretty forgetful myself. I solved that chain problem by keeping the 2 stage blower with chains, weight box and cab on my 520 year around👍

3 pointsAgreed... and will do it this weekend! Now that I know that problem exists I am afraid to take it out in the snow until I find that weak spot as pushing one of those autos is work enough (even with the pressure released on the tranny)..let alone in the snow! lol, just got done this past spring doing the same thing on my '69 Camaro... I love that old iron... but it calls for some special attention at its age (not unlike myself).

3 pointsI'm still rockin' a mullet...and I love my square body machines 520 Wheel Horse G body Malibus and GM trucks...and most importantly 80s Hair Metal ...rock on.

3 pointsTrACTOR IS ABOUT 40 YEARS OLD. Wire connections break, corrode and stiffen in cold weather especially. Do a run through all your connections, clean and look for wire coatins breaks etc. It will pay off in the logn run!

3 pointsMy first pickup was a '52 Ford with a straight six and three on the column. Had been a service truck for the Bell Telephone Company. It originally wore a dull olive drab green paint but the farmer I bought it from painted it robin's egg blue with a brush. It had a 6 volt system that disliked any weather colder than 50 degrees. I never changed it over to 12 volt, just selectively parked it on a slope wherever I took it and caught it in second gear. Side vent windows, a center console cowl vent and two vents on the inside panels near your feet provided more than enough air circulation in the summer. It had virtually no capacity for heating in the winter. The windshield wipers were vacuum actuated and would stop moving when you pressed the accelerator going up a big hil, which in western Pennsylvania meant half of your traveling was up one side of a hill. It had a wooden bed which I replaced with fresh cut white oak from my buddy's sawmill. All of the trim was polished stainless steel. I really loved that truck. Tooled around in it for several years until I decided that I needed FWD. I sold the '52 Ford to a friend who eventually did a full frame up restoration on it and finished it in candy apple red with so many clear top coats you thought you could bury your finger in the paint. Ended up buying a '76 Ford 3/4 ton Highboy with a four speed on the floor, Warn hubs and a 360 under the hood. Found a 390 truck engine with extra heavy main bearing reinforcements and built my first complete engine. Love me a good ol' Ford pickup! Cheers! Dave

2 pointsCongrats! Only reason I won’t deer hunt is because I don’t care for venison. I’ve hunted small game, but really want to go for ducks. Heres the last thing I bagged 😂
-
2 pointsLooks like a great time, we've got 8-12 coming over night. So I'll get my 1st chance of the season. Really looking forward to it too.
-
2 pointsSucks get'n older. Would this have happened to you10 years ago? I notice these little things happen more often to me now and I'm not look'n forward to figuring out my tire chains 10 years from now
-
2 pointsIf everybody looks on Indiana CL sites for "Wheel Horse", you will find it. Seller is a member here at RS. Tractor in particular looks really good, IMO. No hours mentioned........but I can't say if the model even has a hour meter, let alone, does it work if it does. He states he's a trader, so if you have some toys to exchange, the cash differential equation could change substantially. Tractor and mower $2000 Tractor $1800 Mower $300
-
2 pointsThere is nothing unusual or propitiatory about a throttle cable. You can go to Tractor Supply or any good auto parts store and pick up an all purpose throttle cable and repair the one you have. The spiral sleeve of the cable assembly screws into the lever mechanism as can be seen in this photo of an old one I have. The tan substance is a little Loctite they used at the factory to be sure it would stay in place, you could use some silicone sealer if you don't have the Loctite.

2 pointsWait a minute here!! Now this is the guy I want to go on a road trip with. Did you see the FOOD? Projects are projects good eats are a hole different story.

2 pointsI worked at the AMC Terminal at Kadena AFB as part of my duties in Okinawa... you’re guys chow halls were enough to make me consider a interservice transfer 😂
-
2 pointsIf wheel horse tractors was trucks, any standard size tractor like 520, 414, 310 and so on is a F150 with different extras, and the C195 is a F350. Much more a real tractor.

2 pointsI was fortunate to have a local "old time" shop near to where I live. I have an 856 that had a starter give up the ghost (totally fried the armature). Took it to this guy, he blew the dust off of an old box, and produced a brand new original armature. He rebuilt the whole thing for me while I waited, charged me $65 and out the door with basically a new starter/generator. So yes, as others have said, your first need is to determine what the problem is then go from there. But based on my situation, I would not hesitate in getting it rebuilt if necessary. If you were closer, I would highly recommend this guy that I went to, but I see that you are in Indy.
-
2 pointsI probably won't get to it tonight but I will throw mine on as well. My driveway/yard is very rough and that will help keep things lined up.

-
2 pointsGreat question... disengaged... not even hooked up right now.. ready to plow. Based on what you all shared with me I checked solenoid and key switch... found it is a wire or connection in the mast... I replaced one bad wire thinking that was it.. it worked once and then same problem.. went back and moved the wiring harness a bit and it fired up.. so I think it is possibly connection at ammeter or bad wire in mast.

2 pointsMy Wheel Horse Workhorse GT1600 is never without its plow and weights. But I did prep this 414-8 this past weekend into winter mode to get it ready to be put up for sale.

2 pointsI'm starting to understand why so many of you talk about this "addiction". I got my first WH last month. I now have two. The nice lady I married 20 some years ago has made it clear that we don't need any more tractors. I feel like I'm just getting started. LOL
